Canton #2

Sweet & Wild

Rate this book
She’s always been sweet…

Hannah Swift has spent most of her life playing the part of perfect daughter: going to the right school, dating the right boys, saying the right things. And where did it get her? Her father has a secret family, her grades are in the toilet and her perfect boyfriend left her… for her own half-sister. But even running away to Europe for six months doesn’t help Hannah put a lifetime of lies in the past.

Now it’s time to get wild…

As soon as she returns home, her wealthy, image-obsessed parents are determined to shove her back in their mold of tedious society parties and dates that feel more like corporate mergers. Well, Hannah’s having none of it. Instead, she goes after Boone, a drop-dead gorgeous bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. He’s exactly the kind of guy who will drive her family insane, and he seems more than happy to do so.

Yet underneath the beat-up pickup truck and well-worn jeans, Boone has secrets of his own. Hannah’s had enough of lies. What will she do when she finds out about his?

I loved first book in the series. And if you are fan of new adult you should definitely read it.

This one was waaaaaay way long wait. And maybe I would love it more if I read it years back right after the first one. Sure I liked that the h is not very likable in the first book and now we get to see her redeeming side and all the reasons of two side stories. And sure you can make arguments for both her and Tess. Life dealt them both very unpleasant things and family sides. As such subject of it all was very interesting and still stayed unfinished, regarding their father.

Five year wait and I still remember the first book. This one I'm afraid will be soon forgotten.
Very disappointing. In lot of aspects lacking. Plot, characters, love interest etc.

In next five years when book 3 comes out maybe I give it a go.

Review originally posted on Mostly YA Lit:I read Sweet & Wild twice before being able to review it - that’s how much I loved it. I mean, it’s Viv Daniels, aka Diana Peterfreund, who is one of my favorite authors, so I knew it was going to hit me in the feels, but this one just really got to me.

Hannah Swift is a legacy at Canton University. A rich debutante, she’s spent her whole life having things handed to her. But last year, it all fell apart. Between a cancer scare, finding out her dad has been cheating on her mom, finding out she has a half-sister from her dad’s mistress, and then, unbelievably, Tess, her half-sister, stealing her boyfriend from her, she’s had a LOT to deal with (for more on Tess and Hannah’s ex-boyfriend Dylan, and the reasons why it makes sense, check out One & Only, the first book in this series). No wonder she decided to take off the first semester of junior year to go jaunt (and kiss) her way through Europe.

The problem, though, is that Hannah is now back and nothing was solved from her break. Sure, she’s fluent in French now and she got some sweet cooking lessons, but Tess and Dylan are still together, her father is still a douchebag, and she’s still expected to graduate from college in a year or so. And she has no idea what to study or where to go from here.

Hannah’s real issue in this book is trying to figure out who she is - and fast. She’s still a second-semester junior at Canton University, her flakey friends are all seniors and about to graduate without her, and she’s tried out at least 6-8 majors with nothing sticking. Her only real passion in life is horror movies - she’s secretly a popular horror movie blogger. And the fact that she can’t talk about it with anyone in her life is kind of hurting her, too.

Enter Boone, the hot handyman from next door who’s working on Hannah’s neighbour’s patio. While Hannah’s spent the summer brooding, she and Boone have also been admiring each other from afar. It’s inevitable that they end up hooking up, and HOLY HECK, their encounters are steamy.

But what starts as a hook-up becomes much more when they learn about each other’s pasts. Hannah, especially, is thrown by just how much Boone - who has never been to college and has wandered the world for many years - can teach her about life and what to do with expectations.

I love, love, LOVED how Sweet & Wild unfolded. This one was such a journey of self-discovery, and I fell right into Boone and Hannah’s troubles, and their desperation to break away from what society expects of them. It is NOT your typical rich girl-slumming-it romance. It’s also not some kind of “surprise, we’re going to end up rich anyway!” story. At every turn, Viv Daniels anticipates what is typical in this genre and turns it on its head. That’s what I loved most about this story.

I know that was a lot of backstory - but with Hannah, you need that backstory to understand where her future goes. And like with Daniels’ other books, this isn’t just a light romance. There’s so much more to Hannah than meets the eye, and there’s so much she needs to go through in order to get to a place where she knows and accepts herself. It’s a romance, so you know it’ll end up with a happy ending, but my gosh. Daniels makes you work for it. You’ll go through all the anguish and pain with the characters, but you will also come out better for it, like they do.

Is it angsty? Yes, but not in a dark or violent way. Hannah’s struggles feel real and authentic to any college senior feeling alarmed by real life coming fast. But her triumphs also feel earned, and you will cheer and smile with her as she makes it through, better and stronger.

THE FINAL WORD:
I really...can’t describe Sweet & Wild that well, or why Hannah and Boone’s romance - and Hannah’s troubles - hit me so hard. Pick it up if you want a sexy, steamy story set in college, with a happy ending that feels earned. You won’t regret it.

After loving the first book in the series, I was a little reserved going into this one knowing the heroine was Hannah. She didn't leave the best impression in the Tess's book, but I think the author did a great job of making an unlikable character likable.

Yeah, so I didn't really love this. It was okay. I chose this because I loved the first book (One & Only), but the two stories don't really compare. First of all this was VERY very racy lol. Which is fine, I just wasn't expecting this to be way more graphic/explicit than the first book. It was jarring. Also the plot got a little convoluted towards the halfway mark, and the ending was abrupt and not satisfying enough for me. I also didn't love Hannah as a main character or Boone as a love interest; their relationship seemed cliched and unconvincing at times. The only parts that I really liked were the storylines with Hannah's family/Tess, and Hannah's passion for horror films. I also liked the epilogue a lot.

I loved the story. I just needed one or two more chapters. Or even better Boone's POV at the end.

Huge spoilers on the way!

This is a new to me author and I will definitely be checking out her previous work! I wasn’t aware that there was a book 1 when I signed up to read this Sweet & Wild. That wasn’t an issue at all since we get a brief synopsis of what happened in the previous book. I will go back and read the previous book though.
The story moves at a fast pace and I really liked the fact that they jumped right into the meat of story as quickly as it does. I need to have my attention grabbed right from the start!

I remember really liking the first one of this series, so I don't know if it's because it's five years later and my standards changed or if the author just wasn't feeling it with with this story but it was really meh. A lot of cliche, instalove, two dimensional characters, inconsistencies and awful friends. The main characters basically only had sex and fight for most of the book, and then suddenly: I love you!!!
(meh meh meh)
i kinda regret buying it but anyways.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't know about this book until now. I read the 1st Canton book when it came out and have been waiting for Hannah's story. It was well worth the wait. I loved Hannah and Boone's story. And I just found out that Daniels is also Diana Peterfreund who wrote The Secret Society Girl series which is 1 of my favorites!!!

I enjoy this authors writing style, this was way more porny than #1 which really detracts from a good romance and that was disappointing 3.5 stars

Rushed ending

I really enjoyed the book, fitness a good fast read. The ending came rather abruptly and with a lot of questions.

While in many ways a good book, I thought it used stereotypes of rich kids too much. I actually liked the heroine more in her sister’s book.
