It’s like a Time Machine that took me back a hundred years to see how things used to be for Egyptian women only a century ago. Nabwya Mousa- after whom my high school was named- is an Egyptian pioneer, feminist and thinker who was calling for women’s rights for a career and education. Her articles were very lucid, focused, and written with such remarkable zeal. I felt I was listening to her giving a speech to the public. It’s funny how a lot of things deteriorated since then, but we gotta admit we did come a long way too. I can’t even imagine how my life was going to be if I was stripped of my right to a career and higher education. Life pretty much sucked for women unless they’re born into really wealthy families.
