This is my favourite tale by Steven to date. Sword and Sorcery is not a genre I would have gone for had it not been offered for review, I’ve discovered a fine character because I took a chance which is why I encourage readers to branch out. While Sword and Sorcery are not my main genre of choice this however peaked and held my interest beginning to end. Gorias is a fascinating protagonist and Steven clearly loves this man he has created.

Steven L. Shrewsbury has been compared to Robert E. Howard--I've done it myself--and it's once again an apt conclusion. Gorias La Gaul may not be as well-spoken as Conan, but he's a heck of a lot more fun: bawdy, bloodthirsty, and with a mile-wide streak of black humor about him.
