"With passion at full throttle, there's no turning back."
When private investigator Lana Parker follows a dangerous biker into an underground sex club, James Hunter is the last man she expects to see. But there he is, all dark looks and chiseled charms, ready to break her heart all over again.
Danger is the name of the game for an undercover cop. And the last thing James wants is for the fiery beauty to come anywhere near the notorious biker gang he's trying to take down. Yet Lana has no intention of giving up her case, which means he'll have to keep her close to keep her safe. A risky proposition-especially when their blazing sexual chemistry reignites an unforgettable passion.

Backed into a corner, Lana must face her fears, including the one thing that frightens her most...her overwhelming feelings for the man whose searing glance sparks her most hidden desires, the man she should not trust, but cannot resist.
Warning: The book contains violence, explicit sex, light bondage, heavy swearing, motorcycle sexytimes, bad-ass biker naughtytimes, and an exceptionally hot hero who will get down and dirty anywhere but under the covers.
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author, Sarah Castille, writes contemporary erotic romance and romantic suspense featuring blazingly hot alpha heroes and the women who tame them. A recovering lawyer and caffeine addict, she worked and traveled abroad before trading her briefcase and stilettos for a handful of magic beans and a home near the Canadian Rockies.
If only I read Barely Undercover 4 years ago, I would praise it. Sadly, I found this book on my pile of TBR. I am not stranger to suspense BDSM romance. Heck, I even found some good authors.
Barely Undercover feels like old song being put on repeat over and over again. I do not entirely hate it nor love it. I found the plot of MC rival is bored. Miss Castille however entertained me enough with her hot sizzling BDSM.
We first meet Lana while she investigates Rex, the dangerous leader of the Hades MC. She ends up in a very dangerous situation. To save her, James nearly blows his cover is a full patch member of the biker club. After that initial encounter, Lana hits Rex’s radar and it’s pretty much about maintaining covers at that point. She and James must continue to act as a couple to throw off suspicions. That turns out to be harder than you’d think.
I really enjoy Sarah Castille’s writing style. Her characters are vivid and lively. In Barely Undercover, the reader is immediately drawn into the story. The plot and setup are very well done. Both main characters, Lana and James aka Ice are likeable. The sexual chemistry between these two is smoking hot. So that’s a definite plus. All in all, I really enjoyed this book, but there were some down sides.
For those sensitive to violence against women, fair warning. There’s also mentions of human trafficking. Other than that, I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoys MC Romances and Romantic Suspense.
I rate it: 3.5 Stars
**ARC received from author or publisher in exchange for an honest review**
Not a bad book but I'm just not into MC club romances - even if it is undercover work. If you like the genre, definitely check out this installment though. Can be read as a standalone. I liked the first book and plan on reading any future installments.
This was a smoking hot read but it was also a bit too dark for me. I’ve been a fan of this author for a while now and I loved her mafia series. I’ve tried her MMA series too and loved the novella after this one (Burnout) so when I saw this sucker on sale, I snapped it up because this author never disappoints. Wish I could have loved it more. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the characters and the story was adrenaline packed. Lana was a total bad ass, James was the knight in tarnished armor that I loved and the story was fast and well-paced. I read this one in one sitting and didn’t skim or skip any parts.
James aka Ice has been undercover for two years. Two years of doing things he never thought he would do in the hope of finally bringing down one of the criminal motorcycle clubs in the area. Two years that might just go down the drain when he bumps into the woman that still haunts him.
Lana aka Roxie thought she’d finally find a guy she could trust. James had been a straight lace good guy cop when she last saw him two years ago. But after he pulled a disappearing act on her, Lana was left heartbroken and with a sudden case of not trusting her own judgement. But when she takes on a case for a biker’s old lady trying to get out of the MC life, Lana finds herself face to face with the last man she ever wanted to see again and once again immersed in the biker world.
This very much had morally gray characters and I’m so intrigued by Ryder but I was left wanting more romance between Lana and James. This is totally reader preference issues here. I don’t mind a second chance love story but I want to experience their love story, not be told it happened with minimal back story. Lana and James dated for 6 months, two years ago and although we get told they dated and they both had deep feelings for the other person, we don’t really get any more details. When they meet up again their connection has already been established and things kind of just pick up where they left off. It felt like I missed a chunk of their history and it was never really explored. That paired with the fact that this story deals with a lot of descriptive abuse and violence and my warm fuzzies were damped a bit.
Still I would highly recommend this author and any of her past work. The Ruin & Revenge series is my ultimate favorite and I'm already feel the urge to re-read them again :)
*SIGH* That was FRIGGIN' AWESOME!!!!!! All i can say is ladies, GIRD YOUR LOINS for *SWOON* James aka Ice; an undercover cop infiltrating a MC as a bad-ass biker... the man was sex-on-a-stick personified!!!!
Review to follow closer to the release date...

Fire & Ice... This is the 2nd book in the Legal Heat Series. I enjoyed meeting Lana in the first book and I was looking forward to more of her sass and the witty banter between her and James, the dangerously handsome cop with a penchant for pain. Woo Hoo! Boy did I get what I wanted and then some! I'm a sucker for a muscled bada$$ alpha cop, add a dirty-talkin' bada$$ biker, put them both in the same pair of tight leathers and you could not pry this Kindle out of my hands! Girls, are you listening? Let me tell you...um...those sexy on a motorcycle fantasies...well...get ready to bookmark that page. I did not even want to stop reading long enough to take a potty break, but I was laughing so hard a few times I had to, not wanting to risk an accident, you know? Sarah Castille, I am a fan for life. You know how to combine sexy men, sassy women, hilarious dialogue, page turning suspense, panty melting passion, and heart melting emotion. ❤️
This is going to be short so I can get back to reading my latest currently reading. But this was good enough that I felt it worth mentioning for sure!
Well written, well developed characters and very hot. This all made for a super happy reader for me! There was some angst. It wasn't overwhelming, but it was certainly there. So that hit a high note too. If you're looking for a sexy escape with an undercover cop turned hot biker and a smart PI running from her past, this is it!
But when a dark terror emerges from the past, Lana goes on the run...and James gives up everything to save her. Backed into a corner, Lana must face her fears, including the one thing that frightens her most...her overwhelming feelings for the man whose searing glance sparks her most hidden desires, the man she should not trust, but cannot resist.
Lana is one strong woman. Escaping after years of abuse from her ex-Levi, and the members of his MC she flees to Canada. She's made a life for herself as a private investigator with her new friend Jackie, and even fell for someone safe, James, a cop. Unfortunately after a couple of months he leaves unexpectedly in the middle of the night, leaving her broken hearted again. But two years later, she's working on a case, trailing Rex, the head of Hades MC - and who does she run into but James - but he's undercover and known as Ice, now a member of the Hades MC, and James is working on taking the MC down.
Sparks fly with these two - and it is hot. The tension is there - she doesn't want to give in afraid to be hurt again - and he still craves her but doesn't want to have to hurt her again by leaving, and he's afraid for her safety has she pries into Rex's life at the Hades MC Club. Fortunately they can't fight the feelings and the sparks fly - and James is the dominant, alpha that makes you feel all squishy inside! He definitely knows how to ride a motorcycle!
The problems are still there - James knows Lana is hiding something from her past, and she won't give up her current case looking for info on Rex for his wife. Lana is stubborn and feisty and won't give up the case - but she's still afraid that her past is going to come back to haunt her.
This book had a great cast of characters besides James and Lana - you get to know Jackie her best friend better and their crazy friendship and all their disguises. You also get to meet Ryder, another member of the Hades MC and whole other type of sexy - but more like James than Rex. This story takes you on a great ride - and I look forward to the next book in the series!
To start, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! for giving James and Lana a story! They were wonderful as secondary characters in Legal Heat and are absolutely sizzling hot in Barely Undercover. Now that I’ve said that I can also say this story is more serious, intense and darker than Legal Heat. My emotions were all over the place, from laughing out loud at the snarky comments, to being so pissed off I wanted a certain character to die a most horrible death (which he did, so thank you Sarah) to being all hot and bothered (fanning myself) and also to the brink of tears (grab a Kleenex) when you learn about Lana’s past.
Lana Parker is a PI trying to keep her fletchling business going. So when Angle, wife of the leader of Hades a local biker gang, asks for help she can’t say no. Angle wants out of the biker world and wants something better in life for her daughter so she hires Lana to get photographic proof that her husband, Rex, is cheating on her. The job takes Lana to Carpe Noctem, a fetish club she was escorted out of two years ago (thanks to a certain man). This time around is different, this time she’s trying to get herself kicked out before her cover is blown, when she literally walks into James Hunter, but it’s not the James she knew before. James was a straight arrow cop when Lana met him before and thought he might be “the One” but after leaving her in the middle of the night with no note or explanation he is now a “Heartless Bastard”.
James left Lana to protect her. His past left him unable to trust in relationships and his future was full of uncertainty. As undercover cop in Hades inner circle he’s called “Ice” and has had to do things that change a person but he’s attraction to Lana has never changed or gone away. Now he has to protect Lana by claiming her as his own and the feelings they had for each other come roaring back to life.
Lana is a wonderfully strong, stubborn (maybe beyond what’s good for her), feisty woman. She’s also vulnerable, a little bit skittish (seriously, who could blame her) and yearning for love. I absolutely loved her determination to help Angel even when it meant entering a world that almost destroyed her and her trust in James is awe inspiring (even when he didn’t deserve it). The sexual heat between those two . . . well let’s just say you better have really good air conditioning. James, Oh James (sigh), what a wonderful alpha male. He’s hot, sexy and a whole lot of dangerous. He can talk dirty, kick a door down and he rides a motorcycle. Seriously, who wouldn’t want this man? James has a few trust issues when it comes to women (a cheating ex will do that to a person) but what he feels for Lana helps him realize love is worth the risk.
Other characters that I absolutely loved were Jackie, Lana’s business partner and friend. She’s adorable and always has a comment that makes me laugh. Ryder, what can I say about Ryder except I want more of him! Oh and Master Tony, I really really want more of him! Please say yes??? This story was an amazing? It kept me on the edge of my bed err seat and up all night wanting to find out what happened next. Ms. Castille is a fantastic story teller and I can’t wait to read her next one!
Oh My! What a book! I absolutely freaking loved it! But then what's not to love? A long-haired, extremely Alpha, member of a motorcycle club will tick all of my boxes every time but this one is just a bit different. I should add that I hadn't previously read book 1 in the series - Legal Heat - but that is something I will be remedying very soon but this book works well as a stand-alone so I don't think it would be necessary to do so. This is not a short story/novella and neither does it end on a cliff-hanger.
The Hades MC are bad, really bad, and into so many illegal activities that the police need to shut them down once and for all. The only way they can do that is to plant an undercover agent in there to get as much information and evidence as possible and Ice is that man.
Lana is a P.I. that has been hired by Angel, the wife of Rex - the leader of Hades, to get evidence of his adultery and illegal activities so that she will get full custody of her child when she divorces him. Lana covertly follows Rex to a sex club, hoping to get the evidence she needs but instead bumps into James, the man who two years previously broke her heart and who she still has not recovered from. But this is a very different James to the cop she knew before. Now he is a long-haired biker known as Ice.
What follows is a heck of a lot of raw sex, profanity, violence, domestic violence, some mild BDSM, and the reappearance of the one man in Lana's life that she never, ever, wanted to see again. Now her life is in danger and, by association, so is James'.
This book offers quite a different view on the workings of a group of men, and their ladies, living outside of the law and to their own rules. At times it was brutal, other times it was quite funny, but at all times it was totally compelling one of those books that you take to bed intending to just finish the chapter and instead discover that you've finished it just as the alarm clock goes off. It is definitely one that I will be re-reading in the very near future!
Sarah Castille you have a new fan and I can't wait for the next book - I'm really hoping it's Jackie's story.
This book hit all the right notes for me. It was spicy and steamy, but there was more to the story than sex, a lot more. The suspense part of things was right on. And the characters drew me in from the very beginning. I loved Lana's spunk and James' protectiveness. I loved that the history and hurt between them didn't just vanish; it was a major part of their conflict and was treated as such, even when they gave into their desire. What I especially loved was that I couldn't see how things were going to be resolved for the happily ever after — which, of course, kept me turning pages.
The Canadian setting was an awesome surprise and I really enjoyed the little nods to Canadian stuff, like CSIS and the RCMP DEU. And the Coast Guard and the ducks. I literally laughed out loud at that part because that is so very much Canadian bureaucracy. If you're Canadian and you've read the book, you'll know exactly what I mean.
There were a few things that I didn't like about the book. The questions about James' undercover op that are never resolved, for example. Events at the end of the book are a little repetitive and sometimes the action was hard to follow. But overall, it didn't detract from my enjoyment.
This is the first book of Sarah Castille's I've read and she'll be going on my "waiting for the next book!" list.
The journey of James and Lana is a long filled of pain and secrets. I felt both of their pain but one thing for sure love is an awesome thing. Love is something that can cure a broken heart and trust is something that Lana will have to do in order to survive.
Wow, just mind blowing!!! I have no idea why I waited more than one week after this ARC was giving to me by Ms. Castille. This was an amazing and intense read that had my emotions all over the place. I know for sure one of my feelings was rage; I wanted to kick some ass when Rex entered the picture when he bullied Lana. Only that I had no idea that what I would feel later towards Levi would be something so much worse than rage. I literally wanted to kill him with my bare hands. My heart went out to Lana and also to James; my tears were non stop towards the end of the story. I do have to say that I found myself laughing and giggling throughout this read because Lana was a hoot. Then you have a big, dominant, strong, alpha male that I fell in love with. I love how feisty Lana was and love that she was one that could defend herself. She never backed down and maybe just maybe that would cause her the greatest pain.
Lana “Roxie” Parker is a Private Investigator that can’t stand the sight of biker’s. Only that this job has her tracking the leader of Hades. She has been following him around for the past week and she has nothing to show that he is unfaithful, into drugs nothing. Now he is entering a sex club and it seems like déjà vu, a little over two years ago she was in this club and getting interrogated and kick out, by Heartless B&ST@#D. Now here she was about to get kicked out again except this time she was going to do something to get kicked out.
James “Ice” Hunter has been undercover since he left Lana and is not a biker with Hades and it had taken him that much time to be in the inner circle. Now here was a red read wildcat that could take him down but he needed to keep her safe, protect her with everything he has. The only way he knows to keep her safe is to claim her as his old lady. In the biker world other bikers are forbidden to take an old lady but it seemed that Rex and was not going to listen. Worst one biker in the inner circle kept close tabs on him and it seemed Bone might suspect he was a rat.
Rex Morgan is the leader of Hades and he had his eye on Ice’s old lady, Roxie and he was going to get her under him. He already has Angel, his wife, but it seemed he didn’t really care. He still got his kicks somewhere else or should I say with the Mama in the club. He knew that his wife put a PI on him but they would never get what the PI wanted. There was something about Roxie and he was not going to give up. Then one night he saw something and he knew he had Roxie and maybe Ice wasn’t who he said he was.
Levi Sullivan is with the Wolverines and he has been looking for his wife for a long time. She left him and he lost respect with his biker gang. He was a ruthless B&ST@#D that deserved to die a painful death. I could not believe what he did and what he planned to do with Lana.
Time is running out for James but it seemed that every time that there was a raid something went wrong. Somehow Hades found out and nothing was confiscated. Now for sure he was going to raise suspicions because the weapons were taken by the DEU and there was no way to get it them back. Lana had gotten her proof but at a price because she now needed to run. She heard his voice, saw his ring and he has come back for her. Her only choice was to run because if James found out the truth he would hate her forever but worse he could die.
There were a couple of characters that I loved and would love to know more about. There is Ryder and what he is hiding. I want to know who he really is. Then there is Kickstand, his loyalty to James and Lana. He showed how a biker person should truly act; they should protect not cause harm. He was an awesome kid. Then there is Jackie, Lana’s partner in the PI business. I want to know her story, what did she experience in the streets before Lana. I truly thought something could develop between Ryder and her, I thought that they would make a great couple. So I just wonder if we will get to know more about Rogue Riders and if maybe perhaps this will not be the last time I will get to read about James and Lana. Then there is Master Tony, what’s his story. He surely knows lots of people in high places.
Barely Undercover is an amazing read that had my emotions on a rollercoaster ride. I love Ms. Castille writing style the way her writing is able to captivate me from beginning to end. How her writing is able to enthrall my attention to the point of losing a couple of hours of sleep but believe me it was totally worth it. The pace of this story was perfect and loved that with the vivid descriptions it was like I was with them in this journey to happily ever after. I know that I truly felt Lana’s pain and I also wanted to curl up and lose myself in happy thoughts when pain came to her. Then there is the chemistry that James and Lana had it seemed that they should have burned the sheets with all that electricity flowing through them. I can’t believe that my kindle did not go up in flames. I do have to warn you there is some bondage play.
OMG this is a read that will definitely be staying in my kindle library. I do have to say that I need to read book one Legal Heat. This story is a brilliant journey for two wonderful characters, Lana and James. Pick this book up today and if you haven’t read Legal Heat like me pick that one up also. I totally recommend this book.
Let me just say that I would read this book based on just looking at the cover alone. Barely Undercover was a great romantic suspense that took me on a journey full of funny banter, plenty of angst, and sexual chemistry that was off the charts. This is my first read from Sarah Castille and she did a good job pulling me in to her world of sexy alpha males and strong females that can hold their own.
"She needed a real man. Big. Strong. Protective. Easy on the eyes. Dominant in the bedroom. Docile in the kitchen. Handy with a mop."
I went back and forth on liking Lana Parker. At first, I thought she was just another ditz female playing PI, but as the story progressed you find out, Yes, she is a horrible PI, but with what she went through in her past and how she can still dive back in to that lifestyle, it was just amazing to me. She is one strong individual. I say she is a horrible PI, and I realize I'm just being mean. Of course, that part of the story made me laugh quite a bit. That, and her banter with her roommate was ridiculously funny. Anyway, she does have some good qualities that help her in her profession. She can adapt well under tense circumstances and she care about the people she is helping. She will never give up, and that is special.
"What we had isn't dead. I hear it in the hitch of your breath. I see it in the flush of your cheeks. I can taste your desire on my lips. And if I stripped you bare, and licked my way down your body, I could find you wet and ready for me."
James Hunter, SEXY AS HELL undercover cop. For the past couple years he has been working undercover as a patched brother for the Hades MC, trying to find a way to get these biker men off the streets. Lana, aka Roxie is a distraction he DOES NOT need. He walked away from her in the past to keep her safe, now she has caught the eye and attention of the Hades president and he is not looking to leave her again. Something isn't right though, she knows things that she shouldn't and she will not walk away no matter how many spankings James, aka ICE threatens her with.
These characters both have pasts that are intervening with the present, and it gets them in a hell of a lot of trouble. When Lana and James were deep in to their characters, it was smoking. Fighting = Intense Passion = Sex everywhere and anywhere! Barely Undercover was a scorching, fun, suspenseful page turner, and even though I read book 2 first, I immediately purchased book 1, Legal Heat right after I finished. Sarah Castille will be one to watch out for!
I loved this book! Seriously, it's been sitting on my to-be-read pile for way too long and I'm so mad at myself for taking so long to read it. It was a fast paced story with tons of heat and very likable characters. Barely Undercover is the second book of the Legal Heat series, but I read it as stand-alone. This didn't hinder the story at all. However, I really want to go back and read the first book now just because I enjoyed this one so much!
Lana Parker is a private investigator and a danged good one. She lets nothing get in her way when it comes to helping the person she's representing. So, when the wife of the leader of a notoriously bad biker gang asks for her help, to catch her husband cheating on her so she can get custody of their daughter and leave him once in for all, Lana jumps right in with both feet. Lana completely ignores the fact that this job triggers old fears that she has worked hard to bury. However, when Lana runs into the man that walked away from her years before taking her heart with him she questions everything she thought she knew about him. He still makes her heart beat fast, her knees go weak and her girly parts go all a tingle, but things aren't what they seem and this makes her question everything she believed.
James Hunter cannot believe his eyes when Lana comes walking into the underground sex club that his biker gang frequents. She's everything he remembers and James wants nothing more than to get her clear of the gang and keep her safe. But, some things never change. Lana refuses to give up her case, so James sees no other option than to claim Lana as his "old lady" and bring her right in the middle of the danger. This seriously complicates everything. He's been undercover trying to infiltrate this biker gang and is so close to taking them down.
I loved James and Lana. Lana was a strong chick, but she had a vulnerable side. Granted she tried to hide it, but that was because she was trying to protect the ones she loved. James, also, had a protective streak which caused him and Lana to constantly battle one another. The push and pull between them was fun to read and endearing not annoying and self-punishing. I will be looking forward to more books in this series.
If you’re into hot, dangerous, alpha biker /undercover cop, suspenseful, erotic, romance novels, this is the book for you. Lana Parker is a strong-willed, red- headed, feisty private investigator with a stubborn streak and mouth that gets her in trouble from time to time. When her client, Angel, wife of the leader of Hades biker club, wants out of the biker life, she willingly accepts to investigate her husband. While undercover and trying to get the goods on Rex at the adult club, Carpe Noctem, she ends up on the receiving end of his unwanted attention. As she tries to get the situation under control, a blast from her comes to her rescue. James Hunter, an undercover cop that she was hot and heavy with two years prior. He is now going by the name “Ice” and is part of the Hades biker club. To protect Lana from Rex’s attempts and keep his cover intact, James tells Hades that Lana is his “old lady”, Roxie. Lana realizes that James a.k.a. “Ice” is undercover in the Hades gang. While he tries to protect her from Rex, tempers flare and sparks fly between them. He makes a deal to give her one chance to get her pictures she needs as long as she does it his way. The problem is, Lana is still hurt from James (Heartless Bastard) leaving her without an explanation two years ago and she is running from a secretive past – this equals stubborn Lana. Through the twists and turns of the story, can Lana forgive the Heartless Bastard for leaving her two years ago without a goodbye? Can she out run her haunting past with all the memories resurfacing? Can James get over his commitment issues and have a relationship with the one woman who he may be able to have it all with? What will happen when her past collides with their present, will she run, will he chase her? This book was hot; the chemistry between Lana and James was great and the supporting characters were just as amazing as the main characters.
This novel is a stand-alone but the 2nd novel in the Legal Heat series. I'm a huge fan of alpha, biker, rogue men. But more importantly the angst, "bad guys", revenge, running away out of fear keeps me locked down and not able to divert my eyes from such suspense. The history Sarah gives us of Lana and James assisted me in feeling like I'd known them and their quirks longer than I had. The biker community can be conniving and dirty but they can also be loyal and thorough in keeping those they care for safe and that's what I love about a good biker book. As mentioned, Lana is running from the fear and danger of her distant past. While James was part of her recent past and the years away from him left behind anger and many unanswered questions when she runs into him again all the anger and unanswered questions come flooding back. Lana being a private investigator and James an undercover cop, could they team up once and for all? The swap between Lana and James' POV was perfect and let me join with them more thoroughly. Being part of the biker world there's guns, drugs, violence, revenge, plenty of alpha men, old ladies, tight leather, face scruffle, fighting, claiming, and sex....y short clothing. If you enjoy the clench your fists suspense and hot and steamy alpha biker determination, then you've gotta grab this book. Give this a try!!
There is something you should know about me. I am a sucker for long hair, facial scruff, badass, overprotective sexy characters and in Barely Undercover I got everything I could want delivered by the crazy talented Sarah Castille.
The blurb pretty much covers the main storyline but what it doesn't cover is intensity of it. The characters are intense and full of depth and oh so smoking hot. Sarah took her time with exposing the characters and their pasts, making sure to keep me hooked with a need to want to know more about them. Especially James (Ice), SWOON! What a hunk! I need me one of him! Brooding, strong, LONG HAIR, FACIAL SCRUFF, add in some biker leather and the most intense personality and you have some seriously damp panties.
The story itself was full on and in a good way. It was full of realistic and dramatic biker gang related scenes that are so raw and unbridled, even scarey is some parts. From drug and gun smuggling to kidnapping and the mishandling of women, it sure made for addictive and entertaining reading.
Sarah delivered toe curling, shiver making, underwear soaking sex scenes so hot and intense that I thought the pages would combust in front of me. Lana and James' relationship was sizzling and full of depth which I loved reading because I felt the emotion behind it. It wasn't just another book romance full of sex and no emotion.
Barely Undercover had me addicted from start to finish, absorbed with every word and if you love an action packed, no barriers, steaming hot read then you will be too!

Sarah Castille is a fairly new author to me...and I have somehow managed to read 2 of her books in the last month, without intentionally trying.
And, I can say I am glad I have...these are books that are well worth the read. Fun, hot, ridiculously sexy, with intense and compelling characters.
I loved Lana and James. The balance of the harsh and the romance was perfect. MC club books, even when one of the characters is actually an undercover detective, can be a tough sell. If they are too soft, they don't seem real in the MC world. If they are too harsh, they lose the appeal of the romance. In this, Castille balanced the tension and the romance in a way that it flowed and was believable.
This book was also dark, and there were definitely parts where it was not a traditional romance, which I really liked. The idea that he was not perfect, that she may not be able to totally rely on him, that he is not her knight in shining armor was a different angle for a romance to take, and it worked for me.
The writing was strong and Sarah Castille has definitely become an author I will seek out and intentionally read in the future.
Premise: James AKA Ice is an undercover agent embedded deep into a notorious motorcycle club. Lara aka Roxie is a private eye hired by the old lady of the Hade's top dog to get proof of him cheating. Two years prior James and Lara were an item until he up and left her in the middle of the night with no explanation. Never to return.
The story is well written. Characters are fairly well developed. This is one of those books that will have you on the edge of your seat, flipping through the pages as fast as you can read just to know what happened next.
There is SOME light bondage- but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a BDSM book. Yes, there's a sex club involved. But no, it's not quite like the Red Room in FSoG. We don't really see much of the sex part of the club.
We touch on an abusive past and we do see quite a bit of violence. Sometimes graphic in nature.
My biggest and only real issue is that James and Lana had sex after a big fight. The way the fight was described, and the injuries sustained- well lets just say- in real life there wouldn't have been ANY hanky panky going on. At least not in the way they went about it.
Check it out! If you're a romantic suspense type of person you won't be disappointed!!!
This is just an awesome book. It encompasses one of my favorite catalysts in a romance novel, when two people have a history and are brought together coincidentally at a later date, only to realize that they had never really gotten over each other.
The love scenes in this book are so INTENSE. They are beyond hot on a physical level, but they are so strong on an emotional level, given the history between Lana and James.
Lana was awesome. Period. I liked her "Miss Independent" side, but I also liked her "I'm not too proud to ask for help" side. And she was hilarious! Both her inner monologues and her dialogues had me chuckling at times.
And James (aka Ice). WOW! I just loved everything about him. He never lost sight of what was important to him, and he was loyal to the death to those important things...namely Lana and justice.
This will not be my last Sarah Castille book. I can't wait to read my next one!!!
My, my, my what a story!! It hit all the right spots for me!! I loved the main characters, James and Lana so much. They had igniting chemistry and couple that with the feisty and stubbornness of Lana and the sexy, take no crap Alpha bad boy/undercover cop and I'm telling you, I thought my kindle was going to burst into flames. And then of course there is the hilarious best friend of Lana, Jackie. I was totally hooked in the first chapter of this book. It had the right amount of sex, mystery, and comedic moments that I will definitely reading this one over and over again. Loved, Loved, Loved this book!! Highly recommend. This book gets a huge 5 AMAZEBALLS stars from me!!! I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review
I had to give this book 5 out of 5 stars. I could not put it down for me it was a fast paced thrill ride that gave me everything that I asked for out of any book that I read. I want to laugh, love and be one with the character. I got all that and then some. This book kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire book. A fast page turner with amazing characters with a super awesome story line. There were times in the book I held my breath wondering what was going to happen next. The thought I had while reading this is that it didn't lead into anything, nothing was given away, this book left me wanting more and I cant wait to read the next book in the series. Hands down by far one of the best books I have read this year.
"Warning: The book contains violence, explicit sex, light BDSM, heavy swearing, motorcycle sexytimes, bad-ass biker naughtytimes, and an exceptionally hot hero who will get down and dirty anywhere but under the covers." Need I say more?! Not really, but I will.
I couldn't put this one down! If you're a fan of sexy cops, bad-ass bikers, and alpha males, then this book is definitely for you!! Enjoy :)
Another flaming success! The love story that I've become accustomed to with an excellent plot thrown in! Double danger for both of our main characters; betrayal where you would least expect it and backup where you didn't even know you had it. I was aching to see how it would end and I loved the book. Another on that would make a great movie!
Sexy, fun and oh so exciting! Love me some bad ass bikers, a feisty heroine, and delicious secondary characters. Full review to come closer to release date. **ARC received in exchange for honest review**
This was a fantastic biker book! I could not quit reading once I started. Loved Ice and Lana. Ryder and Kickstand need their own book Sarah Castille! Cannot wait to read more of the new and improved MC.
Barely Undercover is a lot more fun and sassy than the first book “Legal Heat”. This books “Hero”, undercover hard ass cop, James (Ice) who actually got a good share of the focus in Legal Heat is even more growly and grumpy this time around. -Yeah, if that’s what gets you hot… It certainly does it for Lana (Roxy) who, unlike James, is a total hoot as well as a pin up worthy redheaded hottie with a potty mouth and a P.I.-licence, kicking ass and taking names all over Vancouver. Though fun and sassy, the storyline starts off 2,5 years after the last book and without any more explanation than “after 6 hot months of fun and f****ng, J leaves L without a clue, heading of on a undercover assignment. Now 2 years later they smash into each other…”. Boom! That’s it. I constantly felt I was “a few chapters short of a story”, wondering if I’d missed a page or jumped a chapter -but the first book was much the same so I guess this is the writers MO. It’s got clichés in abundance, half witted bimbos who forget they are being chased and dumb ass bikers who act more like 18th century pirates than anything else. At the same time it has the feel of an old school Cop-show episode (with added dirty talk 😉). I can’t really say if it’s the absurdity of the story or my own stubbornness that kept me going because it just got more jumbled. The feelings and drama isn’t just over the top -as expected in this genre- NO. In this one every other page has at least one of the lovers feeling “betrayed and disappointed” in the other, ending in heartache and self hatred only to change within a few lines or a page or two. Not a forgone conclusion though since someone’s probably shouting “it’s all over” only to do a 180 and realising “it’s true love” on the next page… and on it goes. Ending on an high note and yeah, there is an HEA.
It's like Dumb & Dumber trying to go undercover with the way these two idiots screamed each other's real names all the time instead of the alias. 🤦
James (agent undercover as a biker) broke Lana's (private detective) heart years ago by leaving with no word. They meet up again when she's scoping out a biker gang that he's now a "member" of. They have sex (tho it's no where near the "explicit" kind that the author claims in the warnings). There's way more teasing of sex only to be interrupted than there is of actual sex. All the sex scenes are ruined with Lana's constant talking and changing her mind. There's a BFF that's occasionally funny. The whole sex club/BDSM aspect is an afterthought - at most. Plus, Lana's keeping a secret about her past that honestly, she could have just told James about at the beginning. He's in law enforcement. Why the f*ck she kept it a secret from him didn't make any sense. She also kept other things from him. Complete lack of communication on the part of these two idiots. I could have liked it if Lana wasn't so dang annoying. She would make jokes about serious things when it didn't make sense. She'd be crying about "he's trying to kill me" and then a second later she's "well this could be kinky fun". It was so weird.
The audio is horrible and made me hate Lana even more. I seriously wanted to slap her and yell STFU. I tried not to count that against the book though. I can see why some people would like it - but annoying females is a hard limit for me. I'm yelling RED because I want to stop this.
Lana changed her name and moved to Canada to get away from her ex who is a biker. She and her friend join their private investigator companies together and now is following a biker to catch him cheating on his wife or doing something illegal. She follows him to a club and sees James, a cop who up and left her in the middle of the night. James is undercover as a biker in the Hades gang. When he sees Lana and the president notices her too, he steps in and tells them she’s his old lady. While trying to get the goods on the president for her client, they also have to keep them from finding out James is a cop. But once Rex, the president, finds out who she really is, he contacts her ex and he comes for her. But James isn’t letting her go since he got her back and will do anything to keep her safe. Sex, bikers, and action. What more could you ask for? Loved the story and characters, a little violent and abuse. But a heroine who stands up for herself and doesn’t let anything keep her down.
