A new book from H.D. Gordon set in Alexa's world? What did you think my reaction would be?

Surah and Charlie are the main characters here and they live in the world from The Alexa Montgomery Saga (which I really recommend by the way) and their story is set after the events from those books. That is just one thing that makes this book awesome. My expectations were really high for this one. H.D. did an amazing job on Alexa's story and I didn't think she could live up to t

Shooting Stars is probably one of the better fantasy titles out there, but I’m in the minority when I say it failed to wow me. It is a solid fantasy story with a princess on a mission to save her kingdom from a big baddy, but maybe all the hype about H.D. Gordon affected my feelings on it. This is my first offering from H.D. Gordon and from her massively successful Alexa Montgomery featuring a cult

A common country boy and a princess, an unlikely pairing. But they have a connection, there is a tale between the two. Is it written in the stars?

Princess Surah and Charlie have met just once before, a life time ago, and the secret they share if found out, could get them both in trouble.

What can I say? H.D. Gordon has done it again with Shooting Stars. If you are looking for a book that will captivate your imagination, then this is the book for you. The story and its characters come to life as you read through the vivid details.

Through a brief chance meeting, Princess Surah and Charlie, a commoner, create a magical connection. They were both young and grieving the loss of loved ones. Who knew this connection would play a major role in their lives? Many years have passed since t

First off, this was my first H.D. Gordon book that I have read - (so in other words I'm a newbie). I was pleasantly surprised how easily I fell in love with the world that Gordon created. So praise to the author for her creativity! It was a great adventure story with just enough of a twist to keep me reading. Plus, after reading this I'm pretty sure I want a tiger as a friend (sigh...we can't all be Surah). Warning is a cliffhanger ending - but I believe a great beginning of a series ...more

Just finished the Pre-beta (lol) read. It's F-ing awesome.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Surah, Samson (the tiger) and Charlie *sigh*
Amazing! A love story from HD?!?!?! You won't believe how awesome it is.

My review of the final version....

A story of Star crossed lovers from an exceptional writer.
I've fallen for the softer side of my favorite writer. We still get Gordon action and wit but she shows us in Shooting Stars that romance can be done with emotion and feelings  instead of body parts and one lin

So I beta read this one, and I'm so thankful to H.D. and Nicole for letting me.

Welcome to H.D.'s slightly lighter side. For those who found the Alexa series a bit dark, this might be more your cup of tea. What doesn't change is H.D.'s amazing writing. If anything it's even better. Her descriptions of this new world is exceptional. The story starts off right away and doesn't slow down until you find yourself at the end. I read it one day, it was that good. A definite "could not put it down" book

That sealed her fate.

Firstly id like to thank H.D. Gordon for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked this book, H.D. Gordon has written a great imaginative story with magic, forbidden love, kidnapping, betrayal and of course good vs. evil. I cant wait for book 2 and I wish i had have known this book was the beginning of a spin off series for H.D. Gordon's Alexa Montgomery series, not that it would have affected my opinion or review just that i would have tried to read that one before thi

'If you want to be free of this heavy darkness you feel, focus on your love. Love is a chariot with a skeleton key to the chains which hate can wrap around you. To love is to be free.'

This is the first novel by H.D. Gordon that I’ve read, and judging by its quality, and the rave reviews of her other novels, I don’t think it will be the last. Shooting Stars is an action packed tale involving a sorc

So lemme count the ways I love Ms. HD! She’s so freaking cute, she’s extra cool, she’s actually very nice, she hangs out with the coolest people (you ladies know who you are), but most of all, SHE IS A BRILLIANT WRITER! I mean, almost anyone can pick up a pen and put it to paper and write, BUT almost no one can write this well! It’s a true gift to write and write well. I am a huge fan of her first series, and I will be honest- I haven’t read the last book of the Alexa series, because I am too de ...more
Shooting Stars is the first book in the Alexa Montgomery spin-off series. We are introduced to another world within our own, but unlike that of Two Rivers and The Silver City where vampires and werewolves reside, the kingdom depicted in Shooting Stars is a fantasy land where Sorcerers, sorceress' and witches dwell.
I am not the best at reviews. Scratch that, I can write a good review but I have virtually no time to sit at the computer and would rather spend the down time that I do have reading :

3½ stars from me! And close to 4 stars, but since it's not a completed story (and therefore lacking any kind of ending), I can't give this first instalment more :)

This is the first book I've read by H.D. Gordon and I will definitely be reading some of her other books - the story is just the right mix of traditional fantasy with new and refreshing elements.

I like both Surah and Charlie and, of course, Sam, and I think it's a great beginning to a new series. However, I really don't like such relat

Good romance story, to understand the title you'll have to go quite deep into the book. After that you'll love it.

I did like in this story more the hero than the heroine. I liked his non aggressive, non fighting attitude.

The book gets three stars for a few glitches that I really didn't like.
1. the evil brother construction is quite flat in my opinion.
2. All this tigers thing is absurd. Why would the tigers behave like stupid humans with monarchy and forced marriage? Tigers? they live alone and

I loved everything about this book. I've read a lot of reviews on the Alexa Montgomery Saga and after reading this book I definitely know what to start next. I like that Surah isn't prissy and that she's willing to get down and dirty. I love her relationship with Sam and how sweet he is when it comes to her. I really like Charlie and even more than that I love how they both have this attraction to each other but that it takes a while for them to admit it to themselves. I was instantly sucked in ...more

Amazing read! I love the characters. A common boy falls in love with a princess. I love the story plot and twist turns in this book. I highly recommend this book.
I was lucky enough to get a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review!!!

Princess Surah is the last living child of King Syrian Stormsong. Her brother Prince Syris, the most recent Keeper, had just died, rumored to have been killed by the Vampires. At the age of nine the Princess lost both her mother and sister Syra in the last Great War. By chance Charlie Redmine, a 15 year old commoner, happened upon the sobbing princess. She was young enough and heartbroken enough to accept

Whats really going to happen: Now got to go back re-read the Alexa Series, finish it - oh god the horror *not in that way but i hate ending series, HATE IT, i don;t like reading the last one if i can help it* Then come back and finish this series

Song Choice: Haven't done this in a while but because this book does revolve a little around music here we go, "Soft Skin" by Mountain Man, "I'll Never Forget You" by Birdy

First thoughts: Fudge. Okay I
People, this book is different. Like wayyyy different.

I honestly couldn't tell you what I imagined it would be like going into it, but I can definitely tell you it wasn't what I got. Shooting Stars is not a version of The Alexa Montgomery Saga even though it's a spin off. It doesn't have an Alexa or a Kayden. So there's my disclaimer.

Instead, it had a Charlie. Quiet, like Kayden, but not at all kick ass or snarky. More like a quiet dreamer, type. Romantic. Laid back. And happy to live a simple l

I have been dying to read this book since it was released and when I noticed it was a read to review on goodreads I jumped on it. I am huge H.D. Gordon fan as I have read 3 of the 4 books in the Alexa Montgomery series and loved them all, I could not wait to read this one and of course I was not disappointed. First off, thank you to the mods from David Estes Fans & YA Book Lovers Unite as well as the wonderful Ms. H.D. Gordon for the opportunity to read & review Shooting Stars.

This is the 6th book that I've read by this author & once again it did NOT disappoint! This is the first novel of a new series which is a spin-off from the very popular & hugely addictive Alexa Montgomery Saga (which I absolutely LOVED). Surah is a very different heroine & absolutely enthralling! She is soft spoken & compassion

Once again H.D.Gordon has created a fantastic story with amazing characters that grab you from the first page and take you along for the ride.

This book is filled with mystery, magic and mayhem. The characters are all so exciting. Surah is a very strong female lead, which I love. She's a princess but also a warrior in so many ways. She takes charge and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty if it means protecting her loved ones. Charlie *sigh*, he has this gorgeous boyish charm that is just so mesme

Although I've only read the first two books in HD Gordon's other series, I'm a fan and was excited to see she was coming out with a new series, set in the same world. I thought the pacing of this book was really good - slow at times, but quick at others. I also liked that the narration changed between a few key characters. The fact that Sam gets his own side story is pretty darn awesome! I was able to identify more with the characters in this series, as you get a feel for what makes Surah, well, ...more

This book was simply amazing!!! A world of magic, sorcery, mysterious lands, impressive beasts etc. I loved the plot and characters. Every chapter had a twist which made the story compelling to read.

To be honest, there were few things that troubled me throughout the book; I found the constantly changing POVs little confusing. Also, despite being in a world of magic ther

This was a fantastic first book to the Surah Stormsong series. I especially loved the character of Samson. I can't wait to see what happens in his part of the story in the second book (which I am eagerly awaiting, by the way).

This is definitely one of the best fantasy novels I've read in a long time!
