It's been a couple (OK, a lot) of years since I've sung any of the verses to "The Wheels on the Bus" beyond the first one. So, when I saw this book that is based on the song, I picked it up so I could sing it with Shortcake.
And it does remind me of the verses I've forgotten.
Alas, the framing story is just OK. Grandma and her two granddaughters are trying to catch the bus and sing the song as they wait.
It's got some fun illustrations but overall it's not one of my favorites to read to Shortcake.

This book should no doubt be an absolute success whilst reading to children during carpet time. The story is an uplifting happy book with the traditional song of ‘The Wheels on the bus’. It is a story about two little girls who go out shopping with their grandmother and whilst waiting for the bus they get carried away singing, that they eventually miss the bus.
The song in the book has a lot of repetition and sound and children generally respond very well. This was the first time I read this book, however I was very familiar with the song as it was one of my favourites whilst growing up.
I would recommend this book to children in EYFS, even though children of any age would enjoy reading this. It is perfect for getting all children involved in the class with acting out the various sounds in the song and it should leave all children happy.
It certainly put a smile on my face!

-This book received no awards.
-Pre-K-2nd Grade
-The Wheels on the Bus is a book adaptation of the song of the same name. It features illustrations and words that match the song lyrics to show what the song actually looks like. The song is about people on the bus hearing, seeing and feeling what is occurring around them while riding the bus, like "the wheels on the bus going round and round" or "the wipers on the bus going swish swish swish".
-This book is a great adaptation of the song and really helps teach it at a much better quality. Not only that, but it also helps make the song more fun and enjoyable as it is accompanied by words and pictures.
-Children can do activities based on the book rather than sing the song. One is to have them create their own bus and maybe even put pictures of them and their classmates riding on it, putting the child who made it on front to see whose bus is whose. Another is to have them make believe they are riding a bus and copying the actions based on the song's lyrics.

1. Awards: n/a
2. Appropriate grade level: Preschool-2nd grade
3. Original Summary: As a grandmother and her grandchildren wait for the bus to go shopping, they sing a song about the bus. They are so into the song that they miss it!
4. Original Review: I enjoy that the author put a twist on a traditional song. Most children will have heard a version of this song and would likely be excited about this rendition!
5. 2-3 in class uses: This book will be good for phonemic awareness, transitions, and during a transportation unit.

My grandson asked for this book again today. That says it all. (Or does it? Does he want a repeat reading because of familiarity with the song, or because he likes this particular version?)

A grandmother takes her two granddaughters shopping for winter coats. After trying absolutely everything on the girls finally decide on coats. While waiting for the bus outside in the cold, Grandmother suggests singing a song that she used to sing when she was young. And so begins the traditional song. They have so much fun singing the song that they miss the bus! So...they take a taxi!

Cute adaptation of the song "The Wheels on the Bus". The author added a bit of a story to it with a comical ending (don't want to spoil). This story would be a great one to share for Grandparents Day, before taking the bus on a field trip or just to fill some time with a familiar song. Kids will love this one!

Great storytime read with a killer punch line for the parents who have tagged along.

I like our Raffi version better because it doesn't have the story introduction, but just goes straight into the song, which is what my 2 y.o. daughter really wants when she picks up this book.

A nice little visual aid for the fun song.

Great story to weave the song into. Fun pictures and it even has the musical notation. Kids will love singing along!

My daughter recently learned this song at school, she was actually very impressed that it was also in a story book :)

Great drawings! Alissa did exactly what Shirley Raines predicted - American buses don't toot - they beep!

This is a very cute adaptation of the classic song. I used it in storytime and had the kids sing along. They really enjoyed it and thought the ending was funny.
