I am rating this book simply based on the fact that I really liked the story. I am trusting that the mistakes in the book that bugged in the ARC that I read were corrected by the time the final version was released. I admit that I am a fan of romance and I really enjoy a story that is a little different. Thi
Some parts were 2 stars and some 4 stars. The hero is Theo, French Canadian who lives with TBI (traumatic brain injury), and he has been running and trying to buy a boat rental business.

Risky business was definitely a book of two halves for me, while there were things I really liked about it, there were also things that I really struggled to get onboard with. Melissa Cutler is an author new to me, and I was interested to see what this book would offer up. The synopsis is intriguing, and I wanted to see what twist she could put on the wounded warrior aspect that has become popular as a trope at the moment.

I went through a lot of emotions while reading Risky Business. The first half I almost gave up, then came about 20-30% where I really liked it, but by the end I was ready for this one to be over. First let me say, I wouldn’t really call this a hockey romance book. Theo plays on an adult hockey league outside of Buffalo for wounded veterans. While we witness a few of his games, the focus is not on hockey, but on the business Theo owns – or at least wants to own. But to explain that, I have to fir ...more

I am so very excited about Ms. Cutler’s new contemporary series. Risky Business is a small town romance with dash of sports and military theme. Cutler scored a goal on this story line and possibly turned me into a puck bunny. The men of Bomb Squad are hot…on and off the ice!

Allison had just come out of a nasty divorce when she decided to move away. She had nothing left but a boat rental business in a small town of Destiny Falls, New York. With little experience and a phobia of water, s

Per months, InterMix usually make some of their title free to request on NetGalley, and when I see Risky Business (and drooling a bit), I don't hesitant to request it. Sport romance is not my forte. Honestly, I RARELY read sport romance. And contemporary romance too, but heh, I willing to try and broad my genres.

I loved so many things about Risky Business! The premise surrounding the Bomb Squad series is very intriguing. The Bomb Squad is an ice hockey team made up of wounded war veterans, and you know what that means…a team full of tortured ex-military heroes!

Risky Business tells the story of Canadian Theo Lacroix. From his injury to the way he deals with life, I found everything about Theo to be very interesting. He’s definitely one fighting some huge internal demons! When his emotional backstory is

I really like the story line in this book, but found several errors that I thought took away from the book. The story is about Allison who has an embezzling, cheating ex-husband and Theo is a brooding ex-soldier who just wants Allison boat business. He pushes back against her all he can in the beginning, but in the end develops feelings for Allison and her daughter and decides that he wants to he their hero and to take care of them. Really liked how the story ended.

My Review:
Yes, I cried in this one. Yes, it's that good. There's just something so tragic about both Allison and Liam's background. These are wounded characters, but in the best way because regardless of how contentious things are between them in the beginning, they are perfect for one another.

The story starts with Allison and her morbid fear of water. After a near-drowning at age seven, every significant, life-altering (i.e. bad) event in Allison's life has happened in the midst of

He prowled to the table, narrow eyed, and braced his hands on it, leaning toward her. “Have you ever seen a hungry bear? Because they don’t throw tantrums. They devour.”
She mimicked his pose, leaning in, getting in his face. “Are you going to devour me?” The second the words crossed her lips, her cheeks heated.
Stop thinking about that, Allison. For real, this time.

Once I started reading Risky Business, I couldn't put it down. Heck, I didn't want to put it down. In fact, I had to slow my reading just to hold off on finishing the book. It was that GOOD! The best thing about the Bomb Squad hockey team besides the fact that the players are hot, is that they are all wounded veterans. All the players have been hurt in some way, but that doesn't stop them from being sexy, protective alpha males. Melissa Cutler has created characters that we can relate to and cha ...more

Risky Business is the first book of the Bomb Squad series by Melissa Cutler. I have to say after reading some of the reviews for this book I was a bit hesitant to start it. They weren't scathing (I don't typically take those seriously). These were more of the "It was okay but the female lead was unlikeable, a spoiled brat, etc." variety. I can overlook a lot of things in a book, but I really can't stand this type of character. I'm so glad I didn't let those review stop

Must-read filled with alpha heroes and kick-ass heroines

Confession time from this reviewer. I was so blown away by Melissa Cutler's Risky Business, the first book in her new Bomb Squad series, that I read her backlist. Yes, this book wowed me to the extent that Melissa Cutler is now on my must-read list. Why? Because she writes about people that we all can relate to. They're not uber wealthy, but they're our neighbors and friends who are trying the best they can to hold things together.

4 Stars - A good start to a new series

Allison is making drastic changes in her life. She is moving to a small town and taking over a business she knows nothing about just to try to give her young daughter a good life. She knew her employees may not be pleased but she never thought she would meet the resistance she had from Theo; and she never imagined he would awaken parts of her she thought her ex-husband long since killed.

Allison has great spunk and determination. I don't think anyone can read

Risky Business is the first book in the new Bomb Squad Hockey series trilogy by Melissa Cutler and I loved it!!

I am a big fan of Melissa’s books. I loved reading her Catcher Creek Cowboys series and ICE: Black Ops Defenders series. I would highly recommend reading this new series also!!

In Risky Business we meet Allison Whitley and Theoren (Theo) La Croix. Allison is a newly divorced single mother who has just moved to Destiny Falls New York. She is the new owner of Cloud Nine boat rentals, as pa

Allison Whitley hates water, and it seems to haunt her. She nearly drowned as a child and the worst things that happen to her, water always seems to be involved. Her husband, Lowell, was arrested for embezzlement at a local "Gentlemen's Club" and it was raining buckets, worse, she subsequently went into labor with her first baby at the same location, in the rain. Lowell left her broke and very angry, but she has her beautiful daughter Katie who makes up for it all. Her dreams of being a stay at ...more

Cutler had me hooked from the very first sentence. Allison appears on the surface to be a victim of her circumstances, but time proves that she is very capable and able to chart her own destiny. When her cheating ex-husband leaves her with a mountain of debt and a newborn, Allison decides to take on the one remaining asset she has left: as boat rental business in Destiny Falls. There she makes a dramatic entrance to the locals when she tries to set the house where the business resides and hersel ...more

Another winner from Ms. Cutler, I have read several books by this author and have enjoyed each one and now she is introducing us to a new series featuring wounded Veterans that all play for a hockey team. I am looking forward to meeting each of these engaging men and women as they find their true love.

Allison Whitley, she has always hated water. Water has been a part of important roles in her life, most in bad situations. She found out with the rest of the world her city councilman hu

The first in a new series about combat wounded vets playing hockey in Destiny Falls, NY. There's a great storyline here about self confidence, being strong and making new friendships - just to list a few. The teammates and friends of Allison and Theo are wonderful and non-judgemental. It starts off a little rough and angry but eventually their behavior turns into sexual tension. The deep love they feel for each other is evident in their actions and is easily felt. Another awesome set of characters and situations from Melissa Cutler! She's definitely on my auto-buy list because of how well she can tell a completely cohesive and heart-touching romance. This series starter introduces us to the men of the Bomb Squad a group of wounded war vets and the women in the small town where they're living. So good on so many levels. This series is going to be another great ride!

In this start to a new series, Ms. Cutler leaves the cowboy and ICE worlds for a not too often written about part of the USA--the Niagara Falls area of upstate New York. As we have come to expect from Ms. Cutler's works, there are hunky (former military) men in need of rescuing by wonderful, likable women. I loved the water symbolism in this novel. Pick this one up soon, as there are more to come! Thanks, Melissa, for another great read!!
I just didn't gel well with the story. I feel like it was way way way to cliche, and I'm usually okay with that except it read like a fanfic cliche which was so annoying.

It felt like the author just wrote exactly what we want to read and didn't try too hard to kick it up a notch or anything.
