A so-so paranormal romance. A Greco-Roman goddess getting the hots for an FBI agent. The murderer seems secondary and there were plot points that were never followed up.

CW: sexual assault

It opened with a scene of the heroine trying to hide from her father so he wouldn't rape her again.

I made like a nopetopus and noped out pretty much immediately. No rating and I'm too afraid to try anything else by this author.

What do you get when a goddess tasked with administering justice and a sexy, by-the-book FBI Agent team up? Throw in some daddy issues, a serial killer, and some unresolved guilt, and you have a fast-paced read with romance, suspense, and action.

FBI Special Agent Helene Alexander (aka Nemesis, Zeus's daughter) is a goddess whose sole mission is to see that justice is served or her days as a goddess will end. She has just transferred in to the New York Field Office where she is partnered with Spe

FOR LOVE OR VENGEANCE by Caridad Pineiro is an exciting Paranormal Romance. It is the first in a four book "Reborn Vampire" Novel series. What happens when a Goddess meets a serial killer and a new FBE partner? Well, you must read "For Love or Vengeance" to find out, of course. But let me tell you a little about the players: Helene Alexander, who is not just an FBI Special Agent but a goddess as well. She is the Goddess of Justice. Then there, is her new FBI partner, Miguel Sanchez, who wants noth ...more

My Review:
3.5 Stars

I always love a good story that has some mythology and gods to it. In this one we get to see a little known goddess, Nemesis, daughter of Hera and Zeus. In this version, Zeus is just as nasty as the myths would have us believe. Rape and lies to get what he wants. This is the first version I’ve seen where Hera wasn’t depicted as a petty, vindictive shrew and that was a nice surprise. There are other supernatural creatures in this and we get to meet a couple. The mystery was sol

I personally loved this book. Crime, Greek mythology, and romance all rolled into one? Bonus for me was the nature of the serial killer ("The Butcher of Broadway") because I love theater (you can see how much by going here.

Anyway, Nemesis/Helene was a strong, yet vulnerable woman whose internal struggle was artfully portrayed. I found myself rooting for her throughout the whole story. I never got annoyed with her, which can happen often with me, and that in itself was a great feat accomplished b

What a great book. This is the first book by Caridad that I have read. Definitely will not be my last and can't wait for more of this series.

This is the story of Helene or her Goddess name Nemesis. She is the daughter of Zeus and Hera. Zeus is not the greatest father to Helene. She is the of Vengeance or Revenge. She protects those on Earth. She has taken a vow by her father to fulfill her mission or her time on Earth as a Goddess will come to an end. Helene works as an FBI agent. She is re-assi

This was my first venture into Suspense Romance and I really liked it. Helene and Miguel are as signed to eachother as FBI partners to find a killer. Immediately sparks fly between them, while they investigate the case. Helene is actually the goddess Nemesis who is on a mission of justice and has run to Earth to escape her brutal father Zeus. Little does she know if she fails her mission there are severe consequences. Does she pick love or eternal powers.
I liked the mix of mythology into today'

I thought it was a good book. A little slow of a read for me, but all in all good. I was really pleased with the mythological aspects of the story. It was a nice change to have a back story based on Zeus and Mount Olympus.

There was not enough suspence for me. I wanted more danger in regards to Helene and Miguel. The only danger came at the conclusion of the story and finished just as quickly as it came. The lead up to the discovery of the Butcher took most of the book, but the actual end to the

Oh my how I enjoyed this suspenseful love story with a twist of fairy tale. How hard a core of a person can become when experiences of life hardships of others go unnoticed, Yet unconditional love from another can heal the wounded spirit

For Love or Vengeance by Caridad Pineiro, FBI Special Agent Helene is actually the goddess Nemesis. She is on earth with one mission - to exact justice. Helene is happy to do this - especially if it means she can escape the abuse of her father Zeus, god of Olympus. Failure is not an option for Helene - if she fails, her time on earth as a goddess will come to an end.

When Helene is reassigned to a different office and city of the FBI, her reputation precedes her. For Helene, things are black and

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love Greek mythology because of the whole gods and goddesses stories intrigue me, so this was definitely a must read for me. It is said that at times the greek gods would take the human forms and the author did her research when she added this into the book with the goddess Nemesis. When the goddess Nemesis is sent to earth with one mission to exact justice or become mortal if she fails, she is happy to get away from her father Zeus, and afte

I received a copy of this book from the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

Caridad includes a bad guy and shows her readers his personality and why he’s a good choice for this book. Our author also gives her readers their paranormal fix – like reading a Sci Fi Criminal Minds. She was also smart in that we get to see some of Helene’s parents. She could have let them overtake the story – since it lends itself to the mythol

I absolutely loved the pacing of this story. I'll admit that it felt slow in the beginning, but I discovered the slowness served a purpose because every detail, every conversation, every narrative pulled you deeper and deeper into a terrific love story. As a reader, I really like to watch as the relationship between the main characters evolves from strangers to acquaintainces to friends to lovers. This story did just that.

But it's not

I really really wanted to love this book. Not much is written about the goddess Nemesis, and I wanted to see what the author was going to do with her. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. Nemesis really didn't show much of her goddess side, but was constantly trying to repress it. I really wanted to see her go all goddess of vengeance on the bad guys and totally destroy them. Her abusive father, Zeus (another thing that I found disappointing) drove her from Mt Olympus to live amo ...more

I have always enjoyed Caridad Pineiro's books but this was not my favorite. I would not suggest this book as a stand alone by any means. I did enjoy this book don't get me wrong, I was just lost every time a new character was introduced. It seems as though you should already know several of the characters mentioned. I see the other books in The Reborn Vampire Series in my future. As far as the main characters go I like that Helene has been through her own personal horrors and isn't portrayed as ...more

There just wasn't enough Nemesis in the Helene character. I thought is was an awesome idea to have the Goddess of Vengeance as an FBI agent bringing justice to the world. Too bad her goddess self had little to do with the story. Her most prevalent power was a travel version of the encyclopedia brittanica crammed in her head. You know, they use to give sets of those away to contestants of game show and there are real people with photographic memories, so i don't find that to be much of a leg up f ...more

I haven't read The Calling series so I wasn't familiar with the characters or premise of this spin-off series. I have to say that I enjoyed this book more as I read the books that followed it. It is in this book that we meet the secondary characters that will take over the series Diana Reyes and Jesus Hernandez. This book stands alone as we meet Nemesis, Goddess of Vengeance and Justice on earth as FBI Special Agent Helene Alexander. She and her new partner,SA Miguel Sanchez have to find and app ...more

I really enjoyed this book. The romance/suspense was well balanced with neither the investigation or the sex overpowering the story. The flow was kept at a nice pace and the introduction of new characters making me want to know more about them - no doubt they show up or will show up in other books as well. A nice easy read.

A highly enjoyable FBI serial killer case with a supernatural twist. I truly enjoyed this one, the addition of the Greek Pantheon kept my interest and I am looking forward to seeing which other supernatural creatures appear in the story, definitely one I will be continuing on with!
