The Ruby Ring #4

Eternal Faith

Rate this book
Sarah Larker is dying.

And there’s nothing modern medicine or science can do to help her predicament. Sarah knows Victor has been desperately searching for a cure without success. Without a cure, she will never be able to carry her precious baby to full term. She is desperate to give her son a chance at life, but every day is a struggle to live.

Victor was forced to leave the only world he ever knew and loved to be with Sarah in California so they could raise their son together. They have agreed to stay until Alexander turns eighteen so he won’t be influenced by Ethano, who wants him for his own selfish and destructive gain. Victor is at a disadvantage in a world he knows nothing about. He has no allies, friends, or connections like he did back in his kingdom. But losing his kingdom and trying to fit in this culture is more difficult than he ever imagined.

As Sarah declines, Victor fears the worst. His only hope is to make an allegiance with the enemy. Both are scared of the consequences, but they are left with little choice. Sarah will do anything to stay alive for her husband and unborn child. As they try to adjust to life in California, their lives come crashing down all around them. When Sarah is kidnapped by the Blue-ringed Immortals and learns the sinister plans in store for her, she is mortified and will fight with her very last breath.

Chrissy Peebles, a practicing nurse, has always loved reading and writing fantasy from the earliest age she can remember. She plotted every single twist she could think of during bedtime stories for her children. When her little ones begged for more adventures, she felt confident enough to let her overeager imagination and sense of humor spill out into her first novel. She lives in Ohio with her husband, two young kids, one hamster, three dwarf hamsters and cat. When she's not taking the kids to Little League soccer, basketball, or baseball, she loves to snap photos as her favorite hobby.

I’ll be honest the premise of the story is good, but the writing is progressively worse with each book. There are contradictions in the same sentence.

Spoilers:
At one point Sarah falls. The sentence says “I hadn’t broken anything, just twisted my ankle and broke a few ribs.”

How can you not have broken anything if you broke a few ribs?

Sarah is at the end. The story deals a lot with how perfect everything was for her, and her son. Good narration, given audio for my voluntary review

I was expecting to be generous and give this book a 3 star review but then all hell broke loose and I stayed up later than intended to finish. It would have been 5 stars except she took her Sarah too close to the edge then the crisis wasn't a crisis. You're probably thinking too narrow of an escape but no, she set it up to be seconds away from complete tragedy and then tragedy is averted with no real structure. Like the other books in this series it doesn't end in a true cliffhanger but it is still intentionally unfinished. I kind of wish she would post how many books she intends this saga to be so I can wait for them all to be available, because those of you who regularly read my reviews know how much I detest an intentionally incomplete story for the sake of selling more books. Don't read on if you don't want a spoiler.

Regarding my dissatisfaction mentioned earlier in regards to the too narrowly avoided crisis...
So here it is at the last few pages of the book and Sarah is sooooooo close to giving birth to her son way to early and she's had a vision that he was going to die if he was born out where they were and it's about to happen at any second! Then a helicopter with the sheriff arrives and BAM! she's still having contractions but the baby isn't about to come...Then viola! she's waking up in the hospital, still pregnant and with her husband...Not believable! I mean, I haven't had a kid before but I've been a birthing coach and once it's ready to come, there's no stopping it or reversing it. She should have either had the baby delivered in the hospital or not taken Sarah quite so close to delivery out in the woods.

Eternal Faith takes the story to California, flipping the fantasy world on its head as Victor and Sarah try to navigate modern life while shielding their unborn child from dark forces. There’s a bittersweet beauty in Sarah’s determination to live for her family while facing her own mortality. Victor feels more human here, fumbling in the real world, which adds depth to his character. The culture shock and shifting power dynamics give this volume a different but welcome flavor. The pacing occasionally stumbles, but the emotional stakes remain compelling and grounded in love and survival.

I did not like this book as much as the previous 2. Why are there other Immortals? And why are they after Sarah? I was happy Sarah and family found a place in the world, and that she found Della. But the overall story line seems too far drawn out. I really hope the fifth book clears up some confusion or ends some story lines.

It was good I didn't like it as much as I loved the others. It seemed like it was just a filler story, there was too much emphasis on how perfect her life was and how much they loved each other. Nothing really happened until 3/4 the way through. I will read the next one because I love this story it really is good.

Oh my...Sarah is really a tough character. Almost dying and trying to make sure her baby comes into the world safely, her strong and deep love for her medieval husband king, Victor keeps her going, and this is what makes me go awwwwww *sniffs* I can't wait to finish the whole series!

I've pretty much lost faith in this series. It went from 1 good book, to a sequel that was meh, to total insanity. I've read them all an am finally reviewing, the last three.

I can't say I'm overly impressed. 2.5 stars.

Pretty good series so far. Was kind of slow at first. I like the adventures, mystery and the unknown about what could happen. A los like the changing the future so bad things don't happen. On to the next book.

This was pretty good, holding at a PG13 content level. There are a few issues Sarah is dealing with that need to resolve soon. It's starting to feel like it's never going to resolve and that's upsetting. However, this was enjoyable.
