Physician and writer P.C. Jersild writes his medical memoirs but also gives a lot of background information regarding his many novels such as Children's Island and House of Babel.
Per Christian Jersild, better known as P. C. Jersild, is a Swedish author and physician. He also holds an honorary doctorate in medicine from Uppsala University, and another one in engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology.
I think this is an wonderful book about an interesting time when the medical field in Sweden was growing fast. Jersild draws a picture which I can connect to and be amazed how slowly some things changes and how much other things have changed. As a reader of many of his other books, it's also interesting to get some inside information on how those books came to be. Jersild is also describing difficult dilemmas that he faced and tries to be honest to himself but is generous in sharing frustrations and even mistakes. A great autobiography.
