The Alpha's Choice

Rate this book
Katarina Bennett stopped believing in fairytales a long time ago. Prince Charming doesn't exist. Careful planning is what makes dreams come true and that's what she's spent her adult life doing. Now those plans have fallen apart. She's lost everything; her fiancé, her job and her home.
Determined to make a new start, Kat takes a job as a governess and teacher for five orphaned children and finds herself in an old Gothic mansion in the middle of nowhere with people who aren't what they seem.
Charles Goodman is the Alpha of his wolver pack, the modern descendants of an ancient line of man/beasts who've hidden among the human race for centuries. Charles has his hands full with taking his pack in a new direction and dealing with dissention in the ranks and doubts about his own abilities to lead, but when he meets his feisty new employee, he begins to believe in a future he didn't think possible.
Together, Charles and Kat, Alpha and Mate, set out to prove all things are possible and fairytales do come true.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!!

The cover is awesome, and I love the green eyes! As always there is something about eyes that speak to me and attract me to a book :)

I bought this a while ago and recently added the two I was missing from the series. I loved this book as much as book 1. I couldn’t put it down. I love when a book pulls you in, and you can see everything and imagine being there. Jackie is so descriptive in her writing, and it is easy to connect with all the characters.

Kat is an awesome woman. She doesn’t take crap and believes in herself and those around her. This is as always important in a heroine for me. Charles is an unsure alpha, and he is a conceited jerk in the beginning. He grows and becomes a confident and better man becoming the Alpha everyone needs him to be. I love both of these characters, the cubs, and the most of the pack :) There is plenty of action and drama to keep you interested. I can’t wait to read more about this pack :)

I’m never good at these reviews, but I know what I love reading. And this is it!!! I highly recommend this series to my werewolf lovin’ shifter friends :) Onto book 3 for me :)

I enjoyed this read. I was in the mood for a good paranormal romance with some creativity and original attributes and Jacqueline Rhoades never disappoints in that category. I wanted something to read that didn’t feel as if I had already read this story before (you know the type, those YA paranormal reads that fall into the cookie cutter mold, that seem like so many other reads you've come across). I was not let down.

This made for a fast paced read with some sexy scenes of passion. I loved how they played!!! My only complaint pertaining to this is that at times the sex seemed quite repetitive.

I adored the maternal side shown by the heroine. That’s a rare heroine trait surprisingly not often written about, and it made her character quite endearing. The kids/pups added sweetness and some fun to this story.

How much did I pay: 2.99
Was it worth it: sure, it’s a 400+ page book
Will I recommend: yes
Will I read more in series: yes

When Katarina Bennett took a job as a governess wanting a life do over she never expected to find she was going to be dealing with wolvers. Of course she didn't know they existed but so goes it.

When Alpha Charles Good man realizes Kat is his true mate, he is torn in different directions. He knows she is his, but with a newish pack and it has not been a smooth transition. As Kat and Charles begin to build a life together, it is met with acceptance by most but there are some that want Kat out of the way and Charles has to keep his wits about him to keep her safe.

I liked this one, had a bit of a gothic feel but with a modern day twist. I can always be guaranteed an entertaining read with Jacqueline Rhodes, her books are always a fresh take of the shifter series and filled with interesting characters who you can't get enough of.

The H was rather stupid in first book, so good to see him trying to correct his mistakes. He's not the Alpha yet, so his pack is unsettled. The h was hired to be teacher for children rescued from terrible wolvers. I liked how the h helped him to be a better man, and that he didn't use his Alpha's touch until she asked. She's a good person, not perfect and I liked her effort to understand what the pack needed from her, not just pushing her way in. Good book.

The Alpha’s Choice is the 2nd book in the Wolver series by Jacqueline Rhoades. This is a wonderfully written but definitely not a clone of the first Alpha’s Mate. I found it a different and compelling read from the very first page.
Katarina Bennett is a teacher recently betrayed by her fiancé who after she helped him through medical school, ran off and married someone else leaving her bitter and in need of a change in scenery.
Leaving her job at a school for upper class/wealthy children, she took a job offered by the mysterious Mr. Begley to teach 5 orphaned children in a very rural mountain community.
Upon arriving a few days early, this being approved by her new as yet unknown employer and Mr. Begley, she found the house of nightmares. A very gothic looking huge stone mansion that she found forbidding and like most gothic novels where the heroine enters at her peril…until she got into the kitchen and found a thoroughly modern wonder. The house was being remodeled and very well.
Thinking she had the place to herself for a couple of days, she made herself at home and while relaxing in the pool realized there was quite a lot of “wild life” around, like a pack of wolves she saw across a field near the forest. While skinny dipping, she met one of the wolves in person as he came to watch her swim and seemed to enjoy her company.
Ok, enough spoilers for me…let me just summarize by saying Ms. Rhoades has definitely written another in this wonderful series. It’s compelling, very hard to put down action. Ms. Rhoades always seems to bring in some very compelling and thought provoking subjects: feral children, abusive relationships, learning to trust yourself being just a few in this saga.
The characters are what I’ve come to expect and have not been disappointed. Wonderfully warm loving supportive but wise females, handsome alpha males of daring and romantic scenes, bad characters I’d just love to slap or worse, loveable friends and much more. The steamy lovemaking and frisky romps are a fresh and well done part as well!
This is wonderful tale of finding oneself, true love, faith and confidence, loving redemption, danger and ingenuity. A great time and really hope you have time to read it…because you won’t be able to put it down! Enjoy it, I certainly did!

There are 5 star books, and then there are those books that you give 5 stars to because there’s nothing higher. This book most definitely falls into the latter category.

Rhoades is one of those authors who doesn’t tell you a story. She paints you a picture. She Sets the scene and develops her story so wonderfully that you can’t help but be drawn in. There were definitely moments when I found myself saying ‘I should have seen that coming’ or ‘Wow, didn’t see that one coming’, but nothing every came completely out of nowhere. The details were in the novel, but Rhoades had pulled me so completely into this story that I was stuck in the same mindset as the characters (who also didn’t see it coming, I might add).

Rhoades also has the ability to evoke multiple emotions in her readers. I spent time on the edge of my seat, I felt sympathy and empathy for the characters, I also laughed so hard it brought tears to my eyes and an ache in my belly. There is so much truth melded seamlessly into the fiction of this story that you can’t tell where one ends and the other begins. It creates the perfect basis for this very well put together story.

For the first time in a long time, I don’t just feel for the main character, I actually want to be her. Not only is she a strong, yet realistic individual, the phenomenally developed male lead is to die for as well. This novel makes you want to be the Alpha’s Mate (capital A, capital M). The Wolver culture and race is so well developed that you can see it happening and you want to join in.

Not only are the main characters well developed, but so is the rest of the cast. Each may be developed to suit a specific role but you get to love them all the same. One thing that I love about these characters is that although they are not all main characters, no one is ever minor. Everyone is important in their own right. No one is a name on a piece of paper, and no one is shunned. These engaging characters become part of your family and part of your reality.

Rhoades is a naturally talented author with lots to offer her audience. With this 2nd instalment in the Wolvers series she has further developed her amazingly wild world to create a paranormal world that is so realistic that you just want to crawl back into the pages of the book so that you can keep living it forever.

I didn't like this one as much as the first. It gets a bit slow in the middle. It seems like the plot is totally obvious, but it isn't. But because it seems like it is, you feel like you are spinning your wheels a bit. Then the story gets going just when you aren't expecting it to, and doesn't let up til the end. I like the way the author deals with the genre. A bit more believable than some (although it's a tough challenge to make werewolves.. or 'wolvers' believable). There is a lot of thought put into cause and effect in the life of a Wolver. It makes the story stand out in the genre because it is less formulaic than most. Kat and Charles are a cute couple and there is a nice slow progression to love. I wasn't crazy about Charles at first because I hate snarky arrogant men. But this annoying quality actually becomes endearing by the end. The glue to the story is provided by two characters, Joe and the new housekeeper. They are entertaining and informative without it being too obvious. I think though, that it was the kids who really pulled the story together. The reader also gets to see some of the characters from the first book. I always love those glimpses into the HEAs of MCs I remember fondly!
Anyways, I look forward to the next book!

I have so enjoyed the The Wolvers series each book is better than the last. I can’t wait to start The Alpha's Daughter it looks to be as good if not better than The Alpha's Choice. The Alpha’s Choice is the 2nd book in the Wolver series by Jacqueline Rhoades. This takes off where the first one left. Jacqueline goes more into dept of the life and history of the pack and alpha. Jacqueline has a way of pulling you into the story as she paints scenes you can picture in your head. She is a very gifted author who knows how to write a compelling story that has you turning the pages not wanting the story to end.

We met Charles in the first book in this series he is such a charming man with so much love to give his pack. He takes his job as pack leader seriously. Charles always felt he got the wrong end of the stick to prove to his father he picked the wrong man to lead their pack he started one of his own. Truly there is no alpha in this pack now the race is on to who will be the alpha who will lead this pack and the mate who will stand beside him.

Kat is such a wonderful loving character that shows in the way she deals with issue. As a teacher she feels for the wolf pups that have run wild. With her love and attention she works through to make them a pack. She must find her way through a maze of anger, hate, jealously of those in the pack.

I truly love all the characters Charles is one you fall in love with from his humor to his charm. My all time favorite would have to be Buddy in his child like ways he brings so much to the pack where other packs didn’t want him Charles made him feel important by giving him reason and support.

Jacqueline gives us wonderful characters that you become a part of. From the first page where Kat meets the wolf dog to her finding out what and who he was is pure pleasure as you laugh yourself silly over and over again throughout her tales. As she nicknames him the beast bad you chuckle, when she stands her ground to be heard your heart goes out to her. The characters are outstanding even those you might not like you have to show respect for how well developed they are.

Valerie Gilbert does an outstanding job narrating with her many voices she pulls you in. Her voice is smooth one you will want to listen to over and over again. She puts the thrill, excitement and danger in tones that grab you. I look forward to listening to more from her. This series is one I plan on listening to over and over again.

This is an outstanding read by a very talented outstanding author. She writes from the heart as she pulls you in with her outstanding writing style. I highly recommend this series. I am so looking forward to being pulled in as the author takes me on a thrilling humors exciting read.

I have one word to describe The Alpha's Choice by Jacqueline Rhoades - AMAZEBALLS! This book has everything you could want in a paranormal and so much more. There are aspects you may or may not have encountered before but if you have, I'm sure you will find them so much better in this series.
The Alpha's Choice is, in my personal opinion, the best of the series. Not to say they aren't all great because they are but this one has what I like the best in my main male characters...a cocky sense of humor softened by a sweet lovable side. That is Charles to a T! Seriously, Charles and Kat's first 'meeting' by the pool has to be the most sneaky, wickedest moment that had me shaking my head laughing. I honestly didn't think I was going to like him after the first book but my opinion quickly changed. The interactions between Kat and Charles are funny, sweet and sexy. And the orphans, oh my the orphans. Easily the most interesting characters in this series...if not the most rambunctious. The added flavor they brought to this series. I'm thinking of all the characters in this book and I'm ready to read it all over again!

I know I've said this book is my favorite in The Wolvers series and it is. I can make that call because I read all three in order but I wrote their reviews in random order. Probably because I was to impatient to see the journey Ms. Rhoades was going to take me on. I most certainly was not disappointed. This second entry in the The Wolvers series reads well as a stand-alone but you will be truly missing out of you don't read them all. Please, read this book. I guarantee you love it as much as I do.

I received this book from JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.

Stars – 5, Flames - 3

First off let me say that I love this author's books. I have yet to find one that didn't get lost in and find myself staying up past my bed time reading. The more I read and follow authors on Facebook and Goodreads I have found that quite often the authors I love the most are the ones that read the most, and Ms. Rhoades is definitely a reader. This love of a good story and of writing comes shining through in the stories she crafts for us to enjoy. Her characters are very authentic, they have flaws and weaknesses just like you and me, and like us all they have the power to overcome....or choose not to. Buy this book, and any of her others, you won't be disappointed. These are good stories, with plenty of action and humor, twists and turns that will keep you guessing till the very end and all of this is wrapped around a juicy love story that will make you toes curl.

As for Alpha's Choice, I think I liked it better than the first one. There is just something about Charles...maybe it is his playful side, or his cockiness. Kat was an excellent pick for him, loved that this Big Bad Wolf fell for someone named Kat. She was defiantly a different from the Mate in the previous book. Kat was a little more willing to submit to the Alpha. She also took so well to this strange new world and family she is thrust into. Happy that she finally found somewhere to belong, people to stand up for her and to love her. It was also fun to experience what it was like for her to become the wolf for the first time.

Thank you Jackie for another great story, can't wait for more!

Charles become the Alpha

When Katarina Bennett's life has decided it would fall apart, having left her job and an ex-fiancé who left with his pregnant new wife she thinks life is playing a cruel joke. So when she is offered a job as a teacher for a small group of children with room and board and a very good paycheck she is over the moon. Not only is this offer not exactly as it seems but neither is the man she is working for. Charles Goodman is the head of Wolf's Head Enterprises an investment firm, but so much more. When Kat is faced with the truth and when she realizes her place in this new world will she be able to find the life she has always dreamed of?

Charles Goodman was raised to be an Alpha, but when he wanted to make his way in the real world plans changed. Now faced with a sense of needed to return to some of his kinds traditions he realizes the balance between the balance between traditions and a modern way of life is a balance. Being an appointed Alpha isn't the same as being the true Alpha and Charles questions his abilities. Until he meet Kat and sparks begin to fly. Will he finally embrace his true Alpha power? Will he be able to create a life for his pack? And will he admit that he needs and wants Kat in his life?

I really loved this story. It was fast-paced, easy to follow, and kept my attention up till the end. I'm definitely interested in reading more by this author/series as well.

Questions/Commnets:

The fact that the main character’s name or nickname was ‘Kat’…cheesy. Why do authors feel the need to have the main characters (typically the females) something animal related when they’re involved in a werewolf or shapeshifter story?

Wolvers? While I like when authors come up with their own uniqueness to common themes (werewolves in this case), what exactly was the difference between the wolver and werewolf? The only difference I noticed was the females were unable to change whenever they wanted.

So Charles is playfully chasing Kat to the house. They get to the front door and she’s losing her shoes because Charles is trying to make-out with her. Kat is trying to be quiet because she doesn’t want the others to hear them. YET, once they’re in the house she’s loud moaning and laughing.

The only inconsistency that I came across was after Kat came back from her mating. All of the other wolvers come back with her, except Charles. Yet, for some reason Kat ends up wondering why River isn't back yet when he's the one she's talking to.

Wow!! Where do I began? Let's start with Charles, Ms Rhoades writes so well that I felt like I witnessed a man grow into a true Alpha right in front of my eyes! For me, Charles starts off as a rebellious brat. He didn't feel like he met his father expectations, so he ran off to start a life for himself with other 'rejects' from other packs. I get it...liked of.... But when he truly started to believe in himself was when I truly believed in him. It was an amazing thing to see/read! And as far as Kat, well that woman was all heart!! The strength she showed from the beginning was so refreshing for me. And the cubs.....I can't even describe what I feel for those kids, I just heart them :)
Thank you Ms. Rhoades for an amazing story and for taking me through another journey full of love and understanding for what it means to be apart of a family. Now I'm off to read the third book in this series!!!

Yet another awesome book from what is definitely one of my favourite authors. She writes kick ass heroines and alpha males oh so well. Although the book can be read as a stand alone why would you want to? We saw a glimpse of Charles in the first book although we actually see a whole different side of him. Charles is in no way the typical rough and ready alpha, and certainly has a lot of traits that you wouldn't typically expect to find in an Alpha wolf. He also meets in match in the feisty Kat. Once again there is an awesome cast of supporting characters who totally help make the book what it is, completely brilliant. This another book I think everyone should read purely cause I adored it and really think everyone else should too. Certainly worth a look cause once you've started you won't want to stop :)

continuing with the story of the eldest Goodman brother, and his mate.

the author continues to impress with her descriptive paragraphs, witty one liners and very memorable characters. i loved the interaction between the wild pups in this book, and Miss Kitty Kat's refusal to give up on them :-)

only down side, is not much is mentioned about ELizabeth and Marshall and their pack from the first book. they are mentioned in passing and they turn up at the Mating, but not enough for my liking.

while sex and violence are featured in this book, its very much part of the story and not over the top or too graphic.

next one, here i come!

Wonderful read

Wonderful read

From beginning to end this was a wonderful read. I have a new favorite author. The characters were well developed and relatable, all the way from the hero and the heroine, to the smallest possible characters. There were no parts that slowed down. It was a couldn't put it down and scared the kids and husband off till I was done read. Even though it was the second book, you do not have to read the first to read it. It was written in a way that it can be a stand alone without you feeling lost. I recommend this book as a must read. Just make sure you have time cause you won't want to put it down once you start.

I Really enjoyed this book... Like the first one It hooked me from the start. I'm a sucker for shifter books so I'm really not surprised I've fallen in love with this series. I loved the character development in this and just loved MOST of the characters in general... Especially Charles and Katrina. Have to admit I HATED Alex and Stephanie but wasn't really surprised at what happened with her towards the end. Another five star read for me. Can't wait for the next one!

Loved this book. A teacher is hired to tutor 5 children. She reports to a creepy looking house, which she names Hell Hall, early for a small vacation. While skinny dipping in the pool, a wolf comes to visit her. Surprise, it is The Alpha. She comes up with all kinds of nickmanes for him, like Beastie Boy, and BIG BAD. She does accept the fact he is a Wolver rather easily, but it does say fairytale on the front of the book.

The storyline was wonderful and I loved the opening paragraphs. One, unfortunate problem, was the editing. Some words were missing, some completely different words and misspelling. I was pulled from the story each time I had to figure out a word. Ms. Rhoades, is a great storyteller and I enjoyed this one as much as the others. I just absolutely fell in love with those kids. They were such a sweet addition to the story. Will there be more stories in this series? I hope so!

Really loved this book, it drew me in right from the start and I was hooked. I’m really hoping that there will be another in this series. I’ve enjoyed the writing style and creativity of this author and now am fully engrossed in her other series; The Guardians of the Race. Thank you for such great escapes.

Much better than the first as far as a connection between the H and h. It needs editing, but is not bad enough to make me stop reading. I loved Charles in the first book and was excited to read his story. It held my attention and I could not wait to get to the end for my HEA. It did not disappoint!!! With proper editing it would have been a 5 Star read for me.

I only gave it four stars because it was a slower read for me. But the story is worth 5.
Honestly it was a great book. Much different than the normal girl falls for a wolf, wolf loves girl blah blah blah.

I did not think book 2 could get better than the first book. BOY WAS I WRONG! Charles is a fantastic kick ass ALPHA! LOVED HIM!! KAT was great as The Alpha's Mate, it would have made my day if she had changed to her wolf and kicked Stephanie's ass.
