I mentioned in the first book review that this might be my new favorite series from this author, and now I can say that it is. I really like the overall storyline to this series and these characters are capturing my attention for sure.

I really liked the main characters, especially the heroine. She's very brave even when she didn't feel that she was. The chemistry between the hero and heroine was pretty electrified. I am more partial to the first books hero, but I'm not sure anyone can beat that dark intensity he had. I still very much liked the hero in this one despite that.

There are a lot of possibilities with this series and the abilities that these characters have makes me excited to see where the author is going to go in the next book. I borrowed these o Kindle Unlimited but I liked them enough that I'm going to buy them so I can re-read them whenever I want.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Good installment of the Circle of Seven series. I love Henrik and Cosmina. Such a great couple! This story picked up close to where the last book left off. Enjoyable story! Can't wait for the next one.

Synopsis:

Alone in a world on the brink of war…two unlikely allies will discover a love greater than time.

Exiled from her home, powerful oracle Cosmina Cordei holds the key to uniting those protecting mankind from evil. But just as she makes her way into the holy city to perform an ancient rite, the enemy closes in for the kill…

Drawn by a destiny he won’t accept, elite assassin Henrik Lazar detests the mystical curse handed down by his mother. But when the sorcery in his blood is activated and past pain comes back to haunt him, his new abilities come into play and he must learn to control them.

Rescued by Henrik in the heat of battle, Cosmina must decide whether to trust the assassin who loathes the goddess she serves or face certain death on her own. Forced into an untenable position, Henrik is left with a terrible choice—protect the magical Order he despises, or deny destiny and lose the woman he loves forever.

My Thoughts:

4.5 stars rounding up.

I'm really enjoying this series. For whatever reason, it just works for me. It's not the most unique PNR and it's got the usual tropes that make a paranormal romance what it is. However, I'm still loving the series despite that. I like the characters and I like the magic. The men are all pretty sweet with their women and they just want to be loved, even when they think they don't deserve it. The women try hard to depend on no one but themselves, but they can't seem to help themselves when the guys come along. It's usually because they've landed in an impossible situation. They don't have much choice but to accept help. That's not to say that they lose all independence and cannot defend themselves, because I don't consider that to be the case. The Blessed are not helpless. They may not all be warriors, but they usually have some way of defending themselves.

Cosmina was a good example of this. She's pretty damn good with throwing knives as well as using them in close quarters combat. She's just unlucky that the Al Pacii are the ones that have been made her enemies now. Even still, she's determined to see the mission the Goddess gave her through even though she's practically bleeding to death thanks to an arrow in the arm from Halal. If Henrik, Shay and Andrei (with Tareek and Kazim as backup) hadn't tracked their former comrades to White Temple, Cosmina would have been a goner. As it is, her mission is a success and she even ends up helping the guys despite barely being able to stand on her own and ending up temporarily disabled. The thing Cosmina struggled with the most is over the way she wanted to rely on Henrik despite having lived on her own for the past five years. She's used to being cautious and keeping her guard up, so trusting Henrik so soon seems wrong to her. However, thanks to her gift, she comes to accept this on her own and without too much annoying introspection. Once she does accept it, even when she wants to cling, she refuses to. She goes balls to the wall and with no remorse. I admired that about her. And when Henrik does do something to hurt her, she doesn't wallow in bitterness forever. She also doesn't mope. She continues her mission and saves one of her fellow Blessed. When Henrik does come to his senses, she doesn't forgive him easily. She makes him tell her how he feels. Good for her.

I adored Henrik. I liked him from book 1 and his character was pretty consistent here. We learned some more about his past, though I would have preferred that he revealed in to Cosmina directly instead of the way that she found out. I'm glad that scene wasn't as angsty as it could have been, though. Thanks to Cosmina, Henrik was able to overcome a lot of bitterness with regards to the Goddess of All Things. It doesn't happen right away, so it felt right to me once it did happen. Having someone like Cosmina love him went a long way to helping him heal. He'll likely still have some issues (for a strong guy, Henrik has some strong fears), but at least he isn't alone anymore. You could really tell how alone he'd been feeling when he felt relieved not to be the only guy stuck with magic. He never wanted magic, but now that all of the others seem to have it, too, I think he'll better adapt to his new abilities. It helps that he doesn't detest the Goddess anymore, for sure. My main problem with Henrik is that he fell into the same trap that Xavian fell into with Afina. He thought he wasn't good enough to be with someone like Cosmina. It made him think a little too much. I wanted him to just decide one way or another and stick with it. He was really sweet with her, though and he wasn't overbearing. He was alpha, but not in a really annoying way. Plus, I liked that he enjoyed bantering with her and really seemed to get into it when she took control.

We also got POVs from Tareek, Cristobal, a Blessed named Nairobi and Halal in this book. Halal gets himself upgraded, but so far, it hasn't given him too much of an advantage as the Seven have been upgraded as well. Plus, those dudes have three dragons on their side. Still, I'm sure Halal will get some licks in soon enough. He probably won't lose all the time. I really dislike that guy and the Prince of Shadows can go kick rocks. Tareek is still fiercely protective of Henrik thanks to their history, but he's got scars of his own that he has to overcome. He starts to begin to here, but I'm sure we will see him grow more over the course of the series. We get a few POVs from Cristobal as well and at first, he's terrified of the changes he's going through. His are really invasive, but the end result is pretty deadly and incredibly useful. It seems he's also got himself a connection with Cruz and I'm sure that will come in handy, especially now that Nairobi has arrived. Is she the one the voice Cristobal was hearing was telling him to find? With the way he was acting towards him after Cosmina saved her, I'm inclined to think so. I'm assuming that their book will be next. Nairobi seems like a pretty self-sufficient type of woman and headstrong, too. I have a feeling that Cristobal will have his hands full with her.

I'm glad that we got to see all of the guys get some decent amount of page time in this one. In book 1, I kept completely forgetting about Kazim and Razvan because I'm pretty sure they didn't have any speaking lines in that one. We actually get to see a nice deal more of Kazim and I rather like him. Razvan I'm not sure about yet because while we got see his awesome new abilities, we didn't see a whole lot of him. That should change as the series progresses. I was happy that there was plenty of Andrei and Shay. I really like those two. I wonder what Andrei's issue with water is, though. I'm really looking forward to when he finds his own mate. He didn't think Henrik getting attached to Cosmina was a smart move, so I'm wondering how hard he will try to resist falling in love. I really want to see him fall hard. I also look forward to seeing what type of woman Shay will fall for. He's the youngest of all of them, but he's damned deadly still and I like his sarcasm. I also like that he took to his new magic really well. So did Kazim and Xavian. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Author Coreene Callahan writes about more than Dragons.. of course there are dragons in both of her series BUT there is so much more. Knight Avenged is book two in her Circle of Seven Series and it tells a story of the good vs evil. Of the ultimate evil attempting to regain his hold on the human world. About those that fight for the light but also fight against she who commands the light. Fighting their destiny while trying to destroy evil.

Oracle Cosmina Cordei was banished from the white city by a greedy high priestess. A woman who dabbled in the dark arts while supposed to be leading those who honored the goddess of all things. Literally alone in the wilderness, Cosmina has managed to create a home for herself outside of the society she was raised in. But now she has been called back to the White City by the goddess herself. It's Cosmina's job to let the others know, it's safe to return. Only it isn't, not as it stands, the minions of evil have breached the walls and are there for one reason only. To destroy those who serve.. When Cosmina attempts to make the call she is attacked, only to be saved by a mysterious man with ties to her past..

Elite assassin, Henrik Lazar isn't an assassin by choice. He too was banished from the White City. His only sin being a male born into the family of the High Priestess.. an evil woman who sold her son to the assassin master and then told the world he was dead. Twenty years later he has returned to the White City trying his best to refuse the call. But when an innocent needs him, he is there. Only to discover that she holds his heart.

Duty and choice... which will prevail. Both Cosmina and Henrik have a calling, both know that any time they have together is finite with no hope of forever. Except the heart wants what the heart wants and a love for the ages begins. But before they can fight for their love they must first fight against those who serve evil.

I enjoyed this book and have waited diligently for it's release. A powerful statement is made and yet.. I found it lacked the wow factor of Knight Awakened.. but that's ok because it tells an excellent story with well thought out characters.

We see a bit of the rest of the seven and I think their lack of presence throughout the book is what disappointed me. Yes, they are there hovering just outside of the story but I wanted more. I love those guys and feel that they need to interact more to truly make this book a great one.

Henrik and Cosmina have an excellent chemistry and that worked truly well within the story. And the plot surrounding the duty or choice concept was wonderfully done. All in all, Coreene has another hit on her hands..

Seems like I waited a long time for this book; I have forgotten a lot about this world that I had to review the previous book. So it was a slow start for me only because it took me a while to get reacquainted with the characters. With that mishap to the side, Knight Avenged was overall fast paced, action packed and plenty romantic.

I love Henrik and Cosmina. I was in awe with both their dedication to their beliefs and causes. Cosmina, the Oracle is more a warrior than an oracle. I love her aggressive warrior behavior; it was inspiring and sometimes she was hardheaded but still inspiring. She was not deterred from her duties, and I have to say, I thought she was pretty kick ass. Henrik and Cosmina were perfect for each other despite coming from the different sides of the spectrum. Their past experiences somehow connected them. It was romantic that Henrik let her be who she is yet, always on the ready to rescue her and the man is hot!!! Ah, Henrik is totally swoon worthy.

The Circle of Seven’s enemy, Halal, joining forces with the Prince of Shadows was totally unexpected. And the union was intense. As evil as they are, I’m afraid our boys have not heard the last of Armand and the Al Pacii aka Druinguaris. I have a feeling they will come back with a vengeance. On the brighter end of things, it was wonderful to see the rest of the guys. We certainly got more scenes focusing on who they are. We saw what their powers are and that they are starting to hone them well. I’m most intrigued with Tareek, Razvan and especially Cristobal. There was a bit of setup for Cristobal and Nairobi. Cristobal is definitely fascinating with his powers and new hellhound friends. I’m curious to see where Ms. Callahan will take that part of the story.

Though Ms. Callahan’s other series, Dragonfury, is, in fact, a different series and centuries apart, I cannot help to think that there is a connection between the two worlds. It was recently said that there may be a chance that the worlds will somehow collide. Ultimately, we will find out what and why the Dragonfury is cursed and possibly where they originated. Now, that information excites the heck out me. Having these two worlds in the same pages will be such a treat.

This fantasy romance takes readers on a riveting journey as the elite assassin Henrik rescues Cosmina, a powerful oracle from the clutches of evil and as the enemy closes in, they both discover that they can’t fight destiny.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on the edge of their seat with action, suspense, drama, magic and romance. The author brings this fantasy story to life with well written scenes and details which paint vivid images and capture the imagination and the well orchestrated action scenes are exciting and believable, drawing the reader deeper into the adventure. The characters are strong, compelling, easily related to and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning and as the danger from the evil escalates, spine tingling tension sends delicious shivers down the spine.

The attraction between Henrik and Cosmina is undeniable but both believe they have to live in the moment which leads to some hot and steamy sex scenes, but means it takes the romance some time progress and for each to realize that they can’t live without each other. Both Henrik and Cosmina have had traumatic pasts that directly impact the present and the reader’s heart, although they both have come out the stronger for what they’ve been through and Henrik’s strength and protectiveness toward Cosmina really captures the heart.

The reader can’t help but get caught up in the story as all the captivating characters learn of their magical abilities and the author throws in a few surprises to keep the reader guessing as evil tries to stop the light. The author has created a fascinating world full of magical characters and elements that arouses the curiosity and ensures that they want to know more. I haven’t read the first one yet… but I will certainly be remedying that and I can’t wait for the next one.

In Book 2, Coreene Callahan continues the story with another loyal servant of the goddess, Cosmina Cordei fleeing from Halal. She runs into Henrik Lazar, who rescues the injured Cosmina. Together they journey to the white castle, but just like in Book 1, running for your life has a way of creating a bond and increasing attraction. The writing was very similar to the prior book in that the action is slow building and the writing rather wordy. I would like this story more if the author shaved off 50-75 pages.

The characters were really likeable. Cosmina and Henrik were hot together. They were both focused on their mission and they were not looking for love. I like that Cosmina was no simpering maiden and Henrik was no alpha male. He was protective but he wasn’t overbearing. It took a long time for them to give into their feelings, which made the first half of the book pretty slow for me. The story progressed at a much faster pace in the second half and I was much more engaged as Cosmina and Henrik gave in to their feelings, and the dragons got more involved. If you like your PNR with more of a fantasy storyline, then this series will enjoyable to you.

Another great story from Coreene Callahan!

Book Two in the Circle of Seven series, it jumps straight into the action from the very beginning. Henrik is a very lovable character with a heart of gold and a strong moral code. Cosmina is a great match for him, she's strong, sassy and not afraid to keep him in line. Both characters have a torturous past but, Henrik especially, comes to realise that to move forward you have to let go and embrace the inevitable. The interaction with the other warriors was fun and you really felt like they were a family through choice not just circumstance, it gave you just enough to crave them having their own stories. I absolutely love the three dragons, am very much looking forward to seeing their relationships with the warriors strengthen.

For anyone that might of struggled with the first book (the world building is long!) keep going with this story. I have a feeling that with each new book their gonna get better and better!

Interesting story with a romance woven in

Coreene Callahan is an excellent story teller. This second book continues the saga of good against evil with a romance woven in to the larger story. Yes, there was a bit too much "I don't deserve her," but that is something I've come to expect with every one of the C Callahan books I've read. In spite of it, her story telling takes the reader into the setting, like all the best stories do. The author knows how to deploy the magic of showing, rather than telling.

Coreene Callahan is becoming a favorite author of mine. I've enjoyed her Dragon Fury series so far as well as her book, Warrior's Revenge, but her Circle of Seven series is definitely becoming the top of the list for me.

I pre-ordered Knight Avenged early on after reading book one ( Knight Awakened (Circle of Seven, #1) by Coreene Callahan ) and admit I did a small happy dance when it finally arrived. While I couldn't read it right away, it didn't take long after opening and starting the first chapter that I was reminded just why I was anxious for this particular books arrival.

In this series, Coreene takes us to a medieval world where life is both harsh and beautiful and magic still exists. Her heroes are not the knights of fairy tales, but men raised in cruelty to be ruthless, heartless, deadly assassins. However, despite the efforts of those that tried to destroy them from their youth, these warriors maintain a spark of honor & humanity sufficient to help them break away and carve a new way, becoming heroes, not by design or desire, but simply because that is who they are at their core. She gives us heroines that are caring but strong enough in character and belief to match well with these hard men. Both hero & heroine are aware of their own flaws and imperfections as well as strengths and strive to succeed in finding the way forward as they struggle find balance & stay on the right path. Action, adventure, romance & passion are all handled with a balanced hand that keeps the pages turning as the reader is immersed in the unfolding story.

The only complaint I really have after completing Knight Avenged is that I have to wait (for an unknown period as well) till the release of the next installment of this wonderful series.

I really like Ms. Callahan's Dragonfury books, and so I was really interested in her entrance into the medieval/fantasy world. The first one was great, and this one was just as fantastic. Knight Avenged continues the story but focuses on Henrik and Cosmina while introducing Christobal & Nairobi. (I hope book 3 is about them.) I look forward to seeing what these new powers do in the fight against Halal and the Order of the Assassins. Great book!

Corrine Callahan is an "Outstanding Author"

I am totally in awe her writing skills. Good command of the English language, and proper use of her editing know-how. it is very pleasant to read a book that I don't have to guess the meaning of words used with either miss spelled or wrong use of the version used. Like there, their, thair,or theare. English is my native language and seeing it butchered by people with barely any skills in translating. Even my spell check on this tablet is smarter.
Thank you again CC

Exiled from her home, oracle Cosmina Cordei travels to the holy city to perform a ritual that will unite those fighting against evil when Halal’s people close in to stop her. Freshly loosed from Halal’s strings, Henrik Lazar fights his magical destiny but loses the battle when he gets involved by saving Cosmina.

To my taste, this outing was too similar to its predecessor in every way (only changing the names) to shake the déjà vu feeling.

While I have eagerly devoured all of Coreene Callahan's dragon series, both Nightfury and Scottish and I am counting down the days till Sloane's book drops in June, but I MUST know what happens in this series. Chrisabol and his hellhounds. The new blessed. The war between the Goddess and the prince of hell, so many questions. Please please please get on to book 3. All 7 actually but the next one or two should hold me over for a bit. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Avenged

A tale of deadly assassins working for the Greater good not Evil. And in the mix love stories to last a lifetime. Henricks story brings him full circle from where he started. With great passion and fierce partner in Cosmina. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Henrik's mother was the corrupt High Priestess who abused him and turned him over to the league of assassins for further tomrent. Cosmina is one of the Blessed who serve the Mother of All Things. They meet when she's recalled to the Temple. He wants nothing to do with the Temple or the Blessed but they are drawn to each other while fighting off the Darkness' minions.

Good

Another tale set in medieval Europe, but with magic and magical creatures, combat between good and evil, and romance. This is a good story if you enjoy those elements, but be aware the violence and even more so the sex is explicit. If that offends you make another choice.

Strong adventure

It is a fun adventure story. Strong characters and development of there backgrounds and individual stories. Each character has had to develop strength and life's challenges. Good and evil is also very resolute. So its fun to root for the good and hiss for evil.
