In the world of all things Post-apocalyptic, Apocalipstick by Lisa Acerbo is my latest hidden gem find, the one that I didn’t see coming until the author pointed it out to me! The apocalypse has come, mindless, decomposing, flesh-eating monsters are roaming the land, human survivors are few and far between, banding together when possible, but ANOTHER group has also evolved! “Others” live alongside the humans, stronger, faster, light-sensitive, with slightly different food requirements and rapid ...more

To say I had low expectations for Apocalipstick by Lisa Acerbo would be an understatement. But it’s October and I devote October to horror reads and movies only, especially “Zombie” horror, and this book had been sitting in my R.E.A.D.S. Overdrive reading list for almost a year, so I decided it was time to tackle it. My confidence in this book was not bolstered when I realized that not only did a super-virus kill most of humanity and cause the dead to rise up to consume the living, but some peop ...more

I choose this book on a whim, horror novels not usually my genre of choice, but I love post-apocalyptic books and movies, so I wanted to give it a try and all I can say is: this book is AWESOME! I loved the premise, I loved the characters, I loved the story…I just loved it! I can’t sing it’s praises enough. With some of the traditional components typical of the zombie apocalypse, there are also unique ideas and actions that keeps this book interesting and unique.

There is a super strong core of c

Ah. Another Zombie book. It is always interesting to see what fresh angles an author can write the zombie apocalypse from. With so much Zombie fiction out there, it's nice to come across something that has unique qualities.

This book follows the journey of Jenna, an apocalypse survivor. It basically starts off about two to three years after the shit hits the fan and around 80 percent of the United States population dies out due to a mysterious illness. Only, a lot of them do not remain dead

Jenna is a survivor of an apocalypse that starts out as a virus, killing most of the world and producing flesh-eating zombies. Instead of getting ready for life after high school, she has to fight to stay alive. She joins up with a band of fellow survivors, who watch out for each other and share whatever supplies they find, on their way to settling in a safe place. She will also have to choose between two boys–one human and one not.
Caleb, an Other, is a fellow survivor and crew member. Others ar

Jenna is one of the human survivors after a virus changed the world. Now stalkers roam the world looking for humans to eat and some humans have become something else. Something other. As Jenna travels with other survivors and others to High Point Inn they suffer loss and bond together as a group. At the Inn Jenna finds she has feelings for Caleb even if he is an other and not quite human. She has a hard time letting go of the past and not everyone who survived is good. Her feelings have her conf ...more

I received a copy of this book through Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.

I think this book has a really unique premise. The idea of others/vampires teaming up with humans to fight stalkers/zombies is really cool. And let's face it, this is a pretty kick-ass title.

Unfortunately, for me, this basically turned out to be Twlight during the zombie apocalypse.

The main character, Jenna, is pretty much a slightly more likeable version of Bella Swan. Throughout the book Jenna is regarded as a f

Amazing book! I couldn't put it down for a second! I totally love zombie stories they catch your interest and there is never a dull moment. Lisa Acerbo accentuates that in this incredible tale full of not only action but love and intrigue as well. While the undead are everywhere and danger lurks around every corner what girl would be caught in this Apocalypse without her Apocalipstick!

For a small town girl like Jenna like after the Apocalypse pretty much sucks. She misses her family, friends and

I loved this book! I’m not into apocalypse books but the title grabbed my attention but the story line sucked me in. I literally could not put this book down until the very last page.

This is not your typical zombie apocalypse book. While there is the flesh eating zombies the virus that killed most of the population also mutated and caused “Others” to evolve along side the remaining humans. But the “Others” are stronger, faster, light sensitive, and have rapid healing. But they all have one comm

Lisa Acerbo combines the two most infamous undead creatures! I admit, I was waiting for someone to tackle it for a few years. That being said, I think the opportunity to create a heck of a new apocalypse wasn't fully realized. There was the standard undead that we all know from the media along with standard characters, most of which can be described in one word: one's motherly, another fatherly, one's angry etc. and they don't really progress beyond these characteristics.

The plot, unfortunately,

I love horror stories, especially zombie books. I don't want to talk about the book title, because if I start, I'm pretty sure I won't stop rambling about how much I love this name. "Apocalipstic" "Apocalistic" "Apocalipstic"
Back to the review, this is such a good zombie book. I loved how much "teenager" the main character was. And of course we have a love triangle (duh), and still I haven't decided which team I am: "Team Caleb" or "Team Quentin" . My favorite were the battle scenes (duh! I'm a

What an entertaining read!!! I knocked this little gem out in two days. Really two days with a couple hours of reading each. It was just a nice and easy read. I told my husband that I was almost done with the book and I didn't even remember reading so much of it because it just flew by. I was sad to see Jenna and Caleb end their story.I hope there will be more.

The authors style was so simple and easy. Everything flowed nicely. This was a different look at the whole vampire story as well which I

I had high expectations for this book after following the twitter account @apocalipstick_ and reading the prologue. After reading the first few pages, I was hooked. Lisa Acerbo exceeded my expectations by developing characters that her readers could relate to such as Jenna Martin who is left to fight for survival in a post apocalyptic world. This book leaves you rooting for one of two males fighting for Jenna's attention. Will she choose Caleb, a man who is not quite human, or will she go with t ...more

I got a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book. I’m not really into the whole New Adult thing. I often see that authors use it as a way to write erotica involving younger and younger people. However, this book had the perfect amount of violence, sexual tension, non-graphic sex and great story telling. I loved how Jenna was just an average girl who is faced with extraordinary circumstances. I also like how this story weaved a new and different zombie mythol ...more

This story is a terrific and smooth read. It has the perfect balance of action and suspense, vivid characters and robust descriptions. The romance between Jenna, Caleb and Quentin is well done and is blessedly free of a lot of angst that some love triangles have. The end suggests another book, which would be good, since this is a fascinating post-apocalyptic world containing great characters that have a lot of potential. I would certainly suggest this story to someone who loves paranormal romanc ...more

After reading Apockalipstick, I knew that I had to write a review to sing its praises. The book artfully combines science fiction, romance, and enough action to rival a Bourne movie into an intriguing story. Filled with relatable characters and wry humor, Lisa Acerbo crafts a book to rival any other popular work in this genre. At first I expected Apockalipstick to be like any other paranormal romance, but I was delighted to find that it is saturated with plot twists and action that kept me enter ...more

I enjoyed Apocalipstick from the first page and found myself reading it slowly because I did not want the story to end. The characters were as genuine as the emotion. I chuckled when the protagonist's regrets in her post apocalypse world were missing shopping and listening to music. The character's thoughts evidenced Lisa's ability to write from the point of view of a teenager. The love triangle will have readers picking a "team" - either Team Caleb or Team Quentin.

I enjoyed the story, bit my f
