Claude is a dog who acts like a human. In this book, he heads to the beach on holiday when his owners head off to work.

Slightly silly with spot-colored digital artwork, this title is a good read aloud or a beginning chapter book for grades 1-3.

These books are about the adventures that Claude, a small dog, and his sidekick Sir Bobblysock get into when his owners, referred to as Mr. and Mrs. Shinyshoes go to work everyday. In this book, the Claude and Sir Bobblysock decide to go on vacation to the beach. It follows their hilarious adventures as they pack their luggage, apply sunscreen, save a man from a shark, buy ice cream, build sand castles, and find buried treasure with pirates. At the end of the day, exhausted from their vacation t ...more

These are lovely stories which are a nice introduction to chapter books for the younger children. They are about a small, plump dog called Claude who goes on adventures with his best friend Sir Bobblysock, who is a sock who smells like cheese. In this adventure, Claude packs his suitcase with items he thinks he might need to have on holiday, including; squirty cream, underwear and sun cream. The children loved the pirates, the skull island and the things Claude packed for holiday. The pictures i ...more

Claude and Sir Bobblysock decide to go to the beach, rescue a man from a shark and find treasure with pirates.

Kids unfamiliar with British slang should pick up some fun terms from this series. They'll also pick up some French in this one. The shark encounter and treasure hunting are both quite humorous. This artist draws people like no one else I've ever seen...they all have very interesting hairdos.

Very entertaining how each book begins with the dog's owners going out- we never see their faces, and they never see all the adventures Claude and Sir Bobblysock have. Pay attention to the pictures in these; they are just as funny as the story line. There's also an opportunity to learn a little French in the middle and in the glossary.

My daughter told me to rate this a 5 star because it was funny. Then she told me I had to check out the rest of the books about Claude at the Library for her to read because she enjoyed this book so much. The illustrations were very cute and the story was rather silly but fun at the same time.

This is only the second "Claude" book that I have read, but it was so much better than the first one. It had really funny moments at the beach AND pirates. What more could you ask for from a book like this?

Claude at the Beach is the third book by author and illustrator Alex T. Smith. Mr. Smith has created a character I foresee as becoming a classic in time. Claude is a cute dog (probably with a somewhat quirky international flavor and character) and his side kick is a striped sock – Sir Bobblysock (think “bobby socks”).

In this, book three, the twosome wait their for their people to depart for the day, which they do right on time. Then Claude declares it is time for a vacation. So they begin to pac

This is it!  This is the next generation of children's book classics.

I am new to the world of Claude and his friend Sir Bobblysock (Oh how I love that name and character!), and I absolutely adored this book!

From the humorously original silliness (he wears suntan lotion and whipped cream at the beach) to the many adventures Claude and Sir Bobblysock are involved in (a sandcastle building contest; rescuing a swimmer from a shark

A Cheerful Beach Adventure (With Pirates

It seems to me that for a kid's general interest picture/story book what you sometimes want is - a friendly looking hero, a story that moves along but makes sense, illustrations that are clear or at least easily explainable, and a cheerful overall vibe. There are other books that are edgier or maybe more audacious, but for a solid appealing read those basic elements seem to describe a successful book.

Well, that's what we have here. Claude has a certain wid

I received an eARC copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. Here is my honest review.

My 7 year old and I read this book together; both of us enjoyed it. Claude is a dapper dog who enjoys adventures in the human world in the way only animals can. We laughed at Claude's antics and for this teacher mama, the discussion my son led once we finished was terrific. He noticed details, flipped back to check facts and analyzed the text in a very scholarly way. His teacher would've been so proud

I am very lucky in that I have access to a university library which has a genuinely superb children's literature collection. I have got hundreds of books out of there and I am nowhere near reading them all.

And sometimes, when you turn left instead of right, when you go to 823.92 as opposed to 712.092, you can come across an absolute treasure. Claude on Holiday by Alex T Smith is such a treasure. It's flipping lovely and ridiculously adorable.

There's a delightfully naughty feel to the story, an

A chapter book series for kids and parents with a sense of humor. Claude heads out to the beach for a vacation. He brings along underwear, whipped cream, sunscreen, his signature beret, some slightly squashed sandwiches, and his best friend Sir Bobblysock. At the beach Claude has to save a swimmer from a shark, joins a sand castle competition, and helps a pirate family find buried treasure. Turns out it’s a good thing he brought a lampshade and those sandwiches because a tense moment with a crot ...more

This is my original review as appeared on my blog, Boys To Books.
I received this book at no charge from the publisher.

Claude the dog with the red beret needs a vacation. What better person to spend it with than his best friend, Sir Bobblysock. After packing all sorts of useful things like tambourines, whipped cream, and sticky tape, the two head off on and adventure to the beach.

Claude's relaxing day at the beach winds up filled with excitement as he rescues a swimmer from a shark, enters sand c

I loved, loved, loved this delightfully funny, little book! Claude and his sidekick Sir Bobblysock were a riot. Their adventures were unique. Their stream of unexpected fortune was unbelievably good. The whole book was hilarious.

The other quirky characters were just as interesting and just as comical, in my opinion. And I must say that the names of the characters were perfect.

The illustrations were simple but totally well-suited for this story. They were playful and cute. I found myself not want

{my thoughts} – I just finished reading this book to my six year old son. When I asked him what he liked most about the book he replied he liked that Claude went on vacation, searched for treasure and pretended to sleep. He had laughed and giggled through much of the book and all and all enjoyed it until the last page.

I really liked this book. The words go along nicely with the pictures. The story is about an adventure and it’s always fun to read about adventures. I also have a soft spot for boo

Claude is just an ordinary dog, who, when his owners leave for the day, wants to enjoy an ordinary day at the beach. But of course, adventures ensue! While the lifeguard is busy helping a lady with her beach balls, Claude musters up the bravery to save a man from being eaten by a shark. When he gets peckish, his attempts to order ice cream in French confound the salesman who gives him 3 ice creams and more for free. But that's nothing compared to the adventure that occurs when he meets a band of ...more

I love Claude, and I can't wait to read more of his adventures.

Claude at the Beach is technically a young chapter book, but every page is illustrated, so it would work well as a transitional book for kids who should be reading more on their own, but still appreciate pictures. (But if a parent winds up reading it aloud, there are plenty of elements for them enjoy in the story, too!)

Kids will certainly enjoy the idea of a dog who sneaks out on grand adventures when his owners are gone, and they'll

This bizarre but hilarious series about an adventuresome dog and his sock sidekick is growing on me. In this installment, Claude decides that he and Sir Bobblysock deserve a vacation. After packing his suitcase with an odd assortment of things he thinks they'll need, they head to the beach where they soak up the sun, save someone's life, encounter pirates, and find treasure. Their human companions have quite a surprise when they return from a day's work. The last two pages made me hoot in deligh ...more

Claude is a dog who to his clueless owners appears to live a rather uneventful life while they are away at work. But unbeknownst to them, Claude has many adventures including visiting a circus, a city, and now, the beach. He takes his good friend, Sir Bobblysock with him to the beach, as well as a suitcase full of things he might need. The book is a lot of silly fun with highly exaggerated illustrations that will undoubtedly induce giggles in younger readers. The only issue I had with the book w ...more

What began as a darling plot line deteriorated into a forum for adult potty humor disguised as a book for young children. Admittedly funny, but it doesn't fit in any category now--children's fiction, young adult fiction, adult fiction--which is it? From the lifeguard ogling beach balls and skulls placed in rather "pointed" places to Naughty Nora and the whipped cream she used up (how?), this author/artist put too many different types of spices in the dish, thereby making it inedible, or at the v ...more

This book lost me at the beginning of chapter 3 where the lifeguard "was helping somebody with her beach balls." The illustration shows a woman holding two inflated beach balls in front of her breasts in a way that can't be interpreted as anything other than suggestive. This is a book for six-year-olds, so I'm not sure how that image got past an editor, and I could never feel comfortable handing it to a child knowing how it is likely to be interpreted by the parents. The rest of the story is jus ...more
