Nafziger earned his BA and MBA at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and his PhD From the Union Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio. He has served as Director of the Napoleonic Society of America and the Napoleonic Alliance. Nafziger is a fellow of Le Souvenir Napoléonienne Internationale.
He served in the US Navy for four years and another two decades in the US Navy Reserves. Nafziger did two tours to Vietnam and experienced combat firsthand. In addition, he worked in the State Department's African Contingency Operations Training and Assistance (ACOTA) program, where he trained African officers in peacekeeping operations from 2002 to 2012.

Mr. Nafziger puts together a very detail packed treatise on the Polish and Saxon armies of the Napoleonic period. We get right down to the trooper level, with multitudes of data on uniforms, weapons, and unit formations (including their leaders). This makes the book a tremendously valuable tool for people who like war gaming. Another real boon was some lovely color plates provided to assist with painting... nicely done and covering the majority of forces.
On the down side, I felt that the actual coverage of what the Poles and Saxons DID during the Napoleonic period was a bit weak. For example, the Saxons get a grand total of 15 pages dedicated to their historical contributions. The Poles do get more attention, but are still significantly lacking in any real detail on usage. I would describe it as "Cliff Notes"-like and very basic. As a follower of Nafziger's writings, this is one of the weaker ones for military usage, and was disappointing as the cover implies more.
The very small level details are excellent and the usual top-notch Nafziger work, but the lack of real detail on the actual military usage of the Poles and Saxons was worth a penalty. I would say the book would be a solid 4 Stars, but a 1 Star reduction for the details missing I really wanted to see and the "basic level" of what was actually provided on war usage. Great references and notes, with some fine tables as well.
