I feel like as only an A-level classics student, most of these essays went over my head (particularly as i've only read the odyssey and not the iliad) but some of the essayists had really interesting ways of looking at the text and it help me appreciate the nuances and debates surrounding the odyssey.

This collection of essays was the set text for an Open University course, compiled by one of the authors of the course. It is wide-ranging, covering archaeological, literary and sociological aspects. I found the course absolutely fascinating, yet this book was very much a disappointment. A lot of the articles were very dry,and it seemed to get very bogged down in minutiae. Not nearly as inspiring as the subject matter gave it the potential to be.!
