The author of this picture book wrote these poems to always remember the stories, sights, sounds, foods, and smells from when she once lived on the island of Trinidad in the West Indies.

I really liked the poems in this book. They do a really good job at describing and bringing to life the experiences of living on the island. Also, they capture the daily routine and the thoughts of a small girl, who gives us a glimpse of what that island would look like through her eyes. The poems come in wide varieties; some quite short and others a little longer, some serious and some a little more light-hearted.
