Midnight Liaisons #2.6

Single Wolf Female

Rate this book
Alice Savage needs an alpha – any alpha – to prevent her pack from being usurped by the lecherous Roscoe. As a last resort, she signs up for the Midnight Liaisons dating service, never expecting that she’d find the alpha she seeks. She certainly didn’t expect Jackson Wilder, a laid back, sexy-as-sin outsider who claims to be an alpha.

But Alice has a problem that most female wolf alphas don’t — she’s a virgin. And the female alpha of a wolf pack always belongs to a male alpha. Luckily for her, Jackson’s utterly gorgeous and willing to take things slow. But is he alpha enough to help her save her pack…or is he too easy-going to be the man she needs?

So, the other day I was in need of a good book and I asked for suggestions, my lovely friend Angela suggested this book and it ended up being a freebie; doubly awesome. She told me she really liked this series and since I haven't read a shifter book in awhile, this was right up my alley. I ended up really liking it actually and really want more from this couple.

Alice and Jackson make a cute couple because they're alike but so different in terms of how they approach things. Both are alpha werewolves, but think and act on different instincts. Alice is kinda balls to the walls sorta girl, panicking and growling her way to dominance. Jackson is the hottie that seems more like he should be chillin at the beach rather than giving orders. He doesn't need to be an ass to make his point clear, he conveys his alphaness through looks. Totally respect that in a dude.

Jackson is a very tender and gentle guy towards not only Alice but her entire pack and those he considers to be vulnerable it seems like. He's able to care for kids but also hunt down scumbags, so I really liked him. Alice seemed at the core like a good person, if not a bit overly naive for her age.

What the synopsis doesn't cover is the fact that Alice has fractured her pack by pushing them away. Jackson might be able to save her pack and bring everyone back together, but realistically it might just be too late. Some things are put into motion that can't be stopped, and other relationships need to be forged.

Fun book with steamy parts that makes me wanna pick up more books from this series. I'd definitely recommend to other werewolf/shifter lovers. I thought the writing was awesome and the story progressed nicely without being rushed.

A pretty straightforward story about Alice, a werewolf who's left as the only alpha of her small pack , and Jackson, the alpha she meets through Midnight Liaisons.

Jackson is nothing like the alphas Alice is used to, being pretty laid back and easygoing, but that doesn't make him any less capable. He's had some pretty bad experiences in the past and is now .

The two quickly agree that joining their two packs would be the ideal solution for everyone, and it's not long before their partnership becomes more than superficial, despite Alice's initial hesitation.

The series continues with Must Love Fangs next.

After meeting Jackson in book 2, DESPERATELY SEEKING SHAPESHIFTER, I was hoping he would get his own story. Jackson is the quite and sexy plumber that worked for Ramsey the bear shifter in DSS. He's been on his own with a younger wolf shifter Dan for a few years. Which is unheard of since Jackson is an alpha. But he doesn't want to be a leader of a pack and finds his small pack of two to his liking, until he gets a call from Alice through the Midnight Liaisons dating service.

Alice is the alpha female leader of her pack. She was the co-leader but after the death of the male alpha all the leadership has fallen on her shoulders. So now Alice finds herself grieving for the lost of the pack's alpha male and having to fight off another alpha male, Roscoe, that wants to take over her pack. Roscoe is a real douche bag and won't take no for answer. Alice has come to the conclusion that she needs a new male alpha for her pack to keep them safe from Roscoe. But she doesn't want to step down and knows that most male alphas are asshats.

Alice signs up with the Midnight Liaisons dating services in hopes of finding a single male alpha that won't be as bad as Roscoe. After having a scare Alice calls one of the wolves she found on the dating site. She is very surprised and pleased when Jackson shows up at her house.

The romance between Jackson and Alice is very sweet. He takes his time with her and shows her that not all male alphas are asshats like she thought. Jackson is very alpha but can be very caring and tender too. He's the perfect fit for Alice and her pack.

I am in love with Mrs. Sims writing. Every novel I've read by her, has such a compelling and unique voice that it's impossible not to think your actually living a different characters life every time. This novella was no different. The only problem with it is that it's a novella and not a full length novel.

I loved, loved, loved Jackson! Even being an alpha he never let his needs prevail over hers. He was sweet, protective and there for her every step of the way. Though I didn't like how they met since it seemed a little too much like a miracle, which I am not fond of. But it's a novella, what can I expect with a limited number of pages.

Alice was nice. She had just lost 2 dear people in her life so her emotional state was to be expected. She cared deeply of all the people in her pack and having Jackson there helping her along with everything was just a plus.

I can not wait for the next installment in the Midnight Liaisons series!! I will be on the edge of my seat, biting my nails until book 4 hits the shelves or Amazon.com. Which ever comes first C;

What a great read re: wolf-shifter romance!

The heroine, Alice, was tough, protective and sometimes understandably overwhelmed as she dealt with grief, obstacles and an overwhelming threat to her pack that created an immediate need for outside help and protection. This forced her to seek an alpha mate under pressure which made the whole concept difficult for her to embrace.

For a virgin alpha female, the thought of desperately needing to bring a total stranger into her pack and either sharing power or possibly being dominated by him on all levels was challenging to say the least. The author did a good job of making a reader understand Alice's fear, resistance and trepidation around a choice to protect her pack that felt like no choice at all.

I enjoyed watching their journey together and the ways in which she began to realize that taking on Jackson as a mate would not require her to give up who she was or push her into anything she wasn't ready for. Alice cracked me up at various points and I got such a kick out of her interactions with Jackson, their strong attraction and growing connection to each other. (I love how he often teased her when she gave him attitude: "Ah, the female alpha. Delightful as ever.")

As for Jackson, he conveyed intelligence, maturity, wisdom and he was hot too. All romance heroines should be so lucky! He was easygoing for an alpha and that caused Alice to underestimate him at points but I knew that when serious strength, protectiveness and an ability to fight was called for, this character would have it in spades. He didn't disappoint me.

He knew exactly who he was and what he was capable of. He didn't threaten, sexually harass, or brutalize others like another questionably alpha male in this story. He treated Alice as his mate and partner, and not as his inferior or possession to be manipulated and controlled. He, thankfully, didn't have an almost pathological need to be right that sometimes comes with alpha hero territory and it was clear that he was all about doing what was best for her and the pack.

Jackson appreciated Alice for who she was and understood that she was wary, going through a difficult time and trying to hold things together. He gave her what she needed, sometimes when she didn't even know what that was herself. Her strength didn't threaten or undermine his confidence in any way and Alice's thoughts, feelings and opinions truly mattered to him.

To put it simply, he earned her trust and then her heart.

(One more thing before I go - I absolutely have to mention baby Eddie's introduction to Jackson - I won't spoil it but did I ever laugh! Alphas!)

I loved how this world changes some of the ‘known’ rules of the shifter universe. The author made it her own. The alpha’s could be brother/sister or a mated pair. It gave the whole story a different feel to it. And I loved how JS showed the two alphas separately as barely holding it together but when they were brought together they became so much more. It was nice to see each other contributions hold equal weight and balance to the pack.

I felt that the big bad was made to be worse than he really was by the end. I was really worried for the pack and then by the end he played it down and felt a bit anti-climatic so I was a bit disappointed in that. The romance was slow but graphic and I really enjoyed how those parts were written, one of the reason I read the rest of this series really.

This is an excellent glimpse into the lives of two great supporting players in a story Desperately Seeking Shapeshifter. The quiet strength and support that Jackson and Dan were able to provide for Sara and Ramsay, make them really appealing. Though there clearly is not enough of a story to support a full length novel, giving them a staring role in a novella is very fitting indeed.

While the story of Alice's loss is very heartbreaking, it is very hard to reconcile her non-action with her alpha status. The only thing that she does that is even remotely alpha like, is to seek out Jackson.
And even that is initiated by the immediate danger posed by an encroaching alpha that Alice is acquainted with.

The best parts of this story revolve around Jackson, his understanding and quiet strength. (As per his role in Desperately Seeking Shapeshifter.) The fact that he shows his strength by allowing Alice to lead, makes him a true alpha. Dan and Holly's budding relationship is one that warrants a closer look in future books.
And baby Eddie is just too cute.

The romantic and sexual aspects of the story are very well paced, considering the time constraints that a novella format imposes on relationships that need time to bloom.

This is a great way to tide yourself over between books, or catch up with characters that you love!

I’ve been thinking of reading the works of this author under the pen name of Jessica Sims, and finally, here I am.

So I was looking for some paranormal fix and I’m in a mood for some shifter and I decided, why not?

The idea of shifter into online dating? Yes, that is actually new to me. So I’ve read about shifters having some online profile for an alliance but never the thought of doing it for finding a mate. Seriously, it just push all my buttons to just devour this book.

An Alpha female? Major turn on.
Some violence. Good enough.
Sexual tension. Yep, right up my alley.
Laid back Alpha male? That’s new. But nevertheless, I felt the dominant in him.

This is a fast paced read that just suited my need and checked all the necessary requirements for my ‘were’ needs. But there was no possessive-obsessive-crazy-something-I-can’t-define-it thing here. I guess, I still expected some slight brooding and more sexual tension and some unexplainable shit. Being rational and laid back super cool is sometimes not cool.

But if your finding something new to satiate your wolf needs, this is ‘it’ for you. Definitely worth recommending.

Alice needs an alpha mate and she needs him before the next full moon, so she sets her grief aside and signs up for Midnight Liaisons a supernatural dating service, and fortunately the fates smile on her because her first and only choice is a good one.

I really liked this short (guess someday I'll have to actually read one of the full length books in the series) What worked for me is the hero, Jackson, is alpha but easy going. This is a guy I would want, strong but willing to be a partner, oh and totally gorgeous doesn't hurt either. Single Wolf Female is sort of a contemporary twist on a marriage of convenience story, which is refreshing in the werewolf insta-mate world - even though the result is the same - it was a nice change of pace.

Single Wolf Female is a novella set in the fantabulously unique Midnight Liaisons world. Because Jessica Sims is made of awesome and wanted to give her fans a little treat, she sent out a copy of Single Wolf Female in her most recent newsletter. Squee! Luckily for those who don't receive the newsletter, Single Wolf Female is available as an e-novella for $.99.

Single Wolf Female features a new character named Alice who is looking to find someone to step in as male alpha to her pack. In the Midnight Liaisons world a werewolf pack has both a male and female alpha. How cool and different is that? Alice's brother recently died and if she doesn't find a replacement before the next full moon she risks a sleezeball named Roscoe coming in and taking over. So what is a desperate, single, and virginal she-wolf supposed to do? She contacts the good folks at Midnight Liaisons.

I was soooooo glad to see the super smexy alpha wolf, Jackson, make another appearance in the series. He was introduced in book two, Desperately Seeking Shapeshifter, and I instantly liked him. I really enjoyed him and Alice together and watching her come to terms with not only having new pack mates but also being a mate.

Single Wolf Female, unlike a lot of paranormal romance stories, was told from only Alice's point of view. Though I would've liked to see inside Jackson's head, I didn't feel it took away from their story.

Single Wolf Female was a nice, unexpected, smexy treat and I devoured it! To put it simply, I frakkin lurved it! Thank you, Ms. Sims, for giving me a little something to obsess over while I'm waiting for Must Have Fangs.

I've really enjoyed the brief glimpses I've had into this world (two novellas previously, but they were FUN!) and was excited to dive back into it and see how things worked out when werewolves were on the menu. Yes, I love my werewolves. Especially when they like to get naked!

I have to say, I wasn't disappointed in these wolves. *super fist pump*

Alice has the twin problems of grieving for her brother while trying to keep her pack together. Frankly, she's not doing that great a job of it when we meet her for the first time. She's a wreck. She's lost and alone, but she sees what she needs and takes steps to procure it. Heh. That makes it sound like she's trolling for a mail order bride from a foreign country.

Well, wait. That's kinda what it is. Except Jackson's not from another country. And the "mail order" part of it comes from the Midnight Liaisons dating service. BUT STILL.

Anyway. Alice and Jackson. He might look laid back, but he has the strength to hold his own and help Alice out of her sticky situation. (and also rid her of that pesky virginity. *waggles brows*)

Fun and fast paced with a bad guy who deserved a good pounding after the things he did to Alice. *thumbs up*

I absolutely love everything this author writes! She writes several different series under different names (Jill Myles, Jessica Clare). This one is no exception.

This is a short story set in her Midnight Liaisons world. A dating service set up for shifters, and other paranormal creatures.

Alice Strange is in an odd predicament. She is a female alpha, in need of a male alpha. Any male alpha. After the death of her brother, the pack's male alpha, the protection of the pack falls to her. Otherwise, come the full moon her small pack may be taken over by the smarmy Roscoe.

So she finds herself applying for a date with the Midnight Liaisons dating service. Where she is matched up with the "alpha" Jackson Wilder. He describes himself as being easy going, and laid back.

When Alice finally meets Jackson, he is exactly what he claims to be, very laid back, and easy going. Also very easy on the eyes. But Alice wonders if he is too laid back. Too easy going to take control, and hold control of her pack.

I loved this little side story, that is set away from the main characters of the dating service. It was well written and I fell in love with the characters. I look forward to the next one.

This book starts out with Alice looking for an alpha by placing a wanted ad. I have to admit, I was worried this would be a bit lame for my liking. I could not have been more wrong. This was such a delighful read.

I respect the fact that it wasn’t your typical story of insta-love. The innocence was so perfectly portrayed, and the discovery of one another on all levels was beyond impressive. I'm a book-virgin-hating, smut lover; so for me to say I was still captivated with the romance side of this story says a lot. Each intimate encounter felt so genuine.

The secondary characters came across just as likeable and intense as main characters.

My only complaint is the ending. Not the way it played out, but how abrupt it seemed. I felt as if it were rushed. When I saw the words THE END, I must admit, I was a tad pissed off. I guess mostly because on my kindle, it was only at 88% completion. The last 12% was dedicated to promotion of other books to come, etc., which I totally understand; I suppose it only bothered me this time because I was still recovering from such a hasty ending. Other books most likely will come out and I will get more of a sense of closure for Alice and Jackson.

Would I recommend: yes
Will I read more by this writer: yes

This was a great little novella in the Midnight Liaisons universe. The story progressed quickly without seeming rushed which is by far the most amazing part to me. Uzsually short stories and novellas are too rushed and don't provide enough info for me. This was the exact opposite.

In just a little over 100 pages I really got to know the characters, understand the politics and thus the main struggle of the story, and see some seriously chemistry build between the 2 main characters. Overall a great novella in general and it definitely rekindles me desire to read this series. Now if only the library would email me to tell me book 3 is ready for me to pick up!

Me gusto.

With so many books in my Tbr list I almost forgot about this series. Man am I glad I'm back into it because it's just so fun. And Then theirs Jackson. Oooh quiet, confident, Mysterious ( seriously I needed more info!!!) finger licking sexy Jackson. Btw I have yet to be let down by any character of this name and know i will have a clitastic good ole time. Their chemistry was pretty good but dammit it was way too short! I wouldn't complain if there was a Single Wolf Female pt two to explore this relationship further. Just sayin miss Sims (hint, hint)

1. Handsome alpha werewolf (the big, gentle handyman traveling with a boy from one of the previous books) who is a good match to the strong alpha female struggling to hold her pack together

2. Excellent pack and shifter dynamics. This world has expanded bit by bit with each book and I love being in it. All the characters feel different, too—hard to do with a series.

3. There’s a were-puppy. :D

I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how good the novellas in this series have been. Other than length, most of them have felt fully fleshed out, immersive, and satisfying.

The reason I enjoy reading this author and all her series:
Thank you for reading this book! Seriously – thank you. Somewhere out there, a unicorn just farted a rainbow out of sheer happiness. And your hair sure is pretty today! Have you lost weight? No? Well, keep doing what you’re doing, because you look fabulous.

It was such a sweet story! I hope all her books stay this good.

2.5 estrellitas
