The American Bible Society (ABS) is an interconfessional, non-denominational, nonprofit organization, founded on May 11, 1816 in New York City, which publishes, distributes and translates the Bible and provides study aids and other tools to help people engage with the Bible. ABS's headquarters relocated from New York City to Philadelphia in August 2015.
Such an enlightening book. I never knew there were seven different Marys in the Bible. What I really liked about the book, was the way each story was presented. A new modern approach to Biblical truths, and a life lesson to the reader. The artwork for each story was fresh and up to date.
Good, quick read. Some of the pictures were absolutely breathtaking. This touched on some lesser known women of the Bible that I had forgotten about since my Sunday School days. The big women players were also discussed. It included lots of direction and encouragement for one's life. There were down to earth comparisons to today's world. The story of Leah was definitely something that I needed to hear right now. The way that it was discussed about how she persevered and refused to be beaten down by the shortsightedness and differences of others and recognized her value. The "life lessons" by themselves could be made into a book. A favorite: "Be willing to listen to criticism. Some of your most important growth may be prompted by the confrontation of someone who cares."
Application to some of these women were very self/world focused. Everything needs to point back to the Lord. I finished it, but I didn’t exactly enjoy this study.
I liked the insight it provided into different women in the Bible, some of whom I'd never encountered before. As I said in an earlier comment, though, I'm not so sure I agree with some of the conclusions the authors are making about some of these women.
This book is excellent!!! It gives wonderful insight into the lives of well-known (and not so well-known) women that we encounter in the Bible. I highly recommend this book!!!
