I told a friend about a ghost dog that I "had" as a young teenager (he walked me to school every day of my freshman year of high school--unless someone was with me, never let me touch him, and none of my neighbors knew of the dog, including the one whose house he met me in front of each day), and he said it sounded like the plot of a book his daughter had read in elementary school. I found the book! A fun little not-scary ghost story for a kid. :)

This book is a very quick read and is worth it. I used to love Lynn Hall books when I was younger. She may not be the most famous author but she is a really good author for kids. This book is sad but it is still really good. Anyway that’s all for his review.

So long ago since I read this book, and it was one of my favourites! I remember some of the plot, but it was the concept of how large love can be, and how it made me feel that I really remember. It was sad, sweet and huge. And just a book that stayed with me for all these years.

I'm rating this purely on my memory of reading it as a kid and loving it.

A childhood favorite from the school library, it's very much the canine counterpart to her fabulous The Mystery of Pony Hollow. I've never forgotten the delicious chill I got when I realized Shadows was a ghost dog, especially given the tragedy of how he died. And even though there's that paranormal aspect, it's hardly scary; this is a beautiful concept of a ghost dog seeking to comfort a young girl just like the young mistress he once had.

Emotive, melancholic book about young girl who is feeling terrible about some careless words she uttered not long before her mother died. She finds a mysterious dog and well the story develops. Some good characters, and an interesting story make for a very good book, with an interesting ending.

Finding this book (finally) feels like a fever dream. I was starting to think I imagined it but then I spotted the cover. I definitely cried reading this and I bet I'll cry even harder when I reread it as an adult. 5/5
