This is *not* a collection of slow cooker recipies. It *is* however, a far better replacement for the manuals that comes with most slow cookers though. There are recipies in the book, and they're good recipies. The value of the book though comes from the tips and techniques that will teach you how to do more with your slow cooker and how to adapt recipies to slow cookers. I definitely recommend this for people who are new to slow cooking (the ones who received it as a housewarming/wedding/graduation/other gift). Slow cooker pro's probably won't get much from this book (of course they're not dummies, so why are they buying a book for dummies?), but newbies and intermediate users definitely will get lots out of this book.

The recipes in this cookbook are practical and easy. I like that the author adapts several traditional recipes to the slow cooker. This book also contains a lot of useful information about using the slow cooker and slow cookers in general. Slow Cookers for Dummies definitely doesn't sit neglected on the bookshelf.

i couldn't get ahold of slow cooker revolution, so i pulled this off the shelf at my local library. what a find! every recipe is from whole ingredients to finished product. most are fundamentally simple with perhaps a saute or sear before the long cooking step. the dishes that result, while challenging, do not overwhelm the simple palates of children and irishmen.

most interesting was the subject matter division. the sections are as follows : drinks, stews/soups, cassaroles (not one can of condensed soup called for!), roasts, desserts, and then the kicker, master recipies which encompasses cooking staples i.e. broth and marinara.

i was going to photocopy a few favorite recipes, but i'd end up spending more on printer ink than the book costs. to amazon.com!

favorite recipies : mulled wine, jumbalaya, moroccan vegetable stew with couscous, salsa, coq au vin, roast pork with apples/sweet potatoes/plantain, creme caramel,

It's a good book for beginning users of slow cookers. I wouldn't give any of the recipes I tried better than a B minus but they all worked which is more than I can say for most cookbooks. She gives good advice on how to convert regular recipes into slow cooker recipes. There are also some decent tips for trouble-shooting, although some are stupidly basic, even for a "dummies" book.

Good summary

Good book to better understand slow cookers. Formatting in kindle a bit dodgy but otherwise worthwhile. Now to start cooking!
