His name conjures images of the Wild West, of gunfights and gambling halls, and a legendary friendship with the lawman Wyatt Earp. But before Doc Holliday was a Western legend. he was a Southern son, born in the last days before the American Civil War and raised to be a Southern gentleman. Bravo!
As I said in my review of the second book of this trilogy, I take issue with some of the history here and there, but two factors nullify any gripes in that department: First, Victoria Wilcox is a genuinely gifted writer/ storyteller. On more than one occasion I found myself bent on finishing one part or one chapter before putting the book down. Worn out though the expression may be, this one was a “page tuner”. Secondly, where I may quibble with a piece of history here and there, the autho

Awesomely written, couldn't put it down!

In this third and last book of Southern Son: The Saga of Doc Holliday Book 3, we find out much more about John Henry Holliday aside from his famous connections in Tombstone. His illness, called 'consumption' in those days was actually researched and named 'mycobacterium tuberculosis' before his death but many decades before a treatment found. I truly admired his tenacity and determination to stay as well as possible not really knowing for sure if it would

I love history, and tho this is historical fiction, Wilcox has done such thorough research I feel like I have the real truth about Doc Holliday. This is book 3 of her trilogy on Doc and it begins with the shoot out at the OK Corral in Tombstone and ends with his death of tuberculosis in Colorado. I got a good grasp of the culture of the time period and how wild the West really was. The whole trilogy fascinated me with Doc's journey from GA through many of the Western states, always managing to c ...more

I have not completed the series she wrote about Doc Holliday. I had the opportunity to meet Victoria in 2014 at the Decatur GA book fair and have all 3 of the books autographed.

Victoria has made history and Doc Holliday come alive. She has gone to great lengths to research history to change what we've all been taught about Doc Holliday the man, his connection to Wyatt Earp and family and what really happen at the OK Corral.

If you love accurate historical fiction, I highly recommend you read :So

The Last Decision is the final book in Victoria Wilcox's Doc Holliday trilogy. I prolonged finishing this tribute as long as possible, but all things must eventually come to an end. To say that I loved it would not be enough...She has done a fantastic job of telling this Georgia native's story...If you enjoy stories of the Wild West, and history, read these books!

Victoria Wilcox was born in California to a pioneer Hollywood film industry family and grew up loving dramatic stories of all kinds, especially those with a sense of history. As a young woman she developed a passion for the stories of royal families found in English historical fiction, and felt certain she was descended from King Arthur himself and destined to discover the historic Camelot. So she ...more
