Dionne is 36, and still hooked on the imaginary twin she invented to get her through her desolate childhood. With such an odd companion, long-term relationships are impossible and she is doomed to live her life as a serial monogamist, until the Go Along Guy shows up. Greg has denial on intravenous, so Dionne’s quirks simply pass him by and, pretty soon, shallow love blosso

Mitch Albom wrote once that every family is a ghost story and that the death sits at our table long after they have gone.
There are other ghosts, besides the dead, and sometimes they can be more troublesome than dead people. Dysfunctional families create all kind of ghosts.
Little Dionne´s household is an extremely hostile environment: a father who left years ago; a mother who is emotionally absent and three older siblings, triplets, who seem to live only to humiliate Dionne.

How I Exiled My Inner Bitch is, hmm, I'd call it a chick lit (in a good way; some people seem to see the term as derogatory, but to me it conjures up breezy, hip, fast-paced tales of young women making their way through the tangles of relationships and careers in the modern world) with either a fantasy ...more

This book had me had me at the title! I had to pause while looking through R2R because it drew my attention. Then I read the synopsis and was hooked. I had the pleasure to read it for review and was immensely glad I got to. It was a great run read that I truly recommend.

I want to start off by saying I am honored to have received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was great! It was funny, quirky, and overall good. I really grew to love the main character, Dionne. The only question that I have is what happened to Mike, her boss? He was in the story and then just disappeared. I loved the way the story turns out, but I just figured he would have tried to find Dionne later. Either way, great book and I highly recommend this to others ...more

I've always had an interest in psychological disorders. Seeing them in movies and novels alike always catch my interest. I can let out my inner psychologist without having to actually talk to anyone, and that is awesome. So when I heard that How I Exiled My Inner Bitch was a psychological comedy, I was immediately interested.

Have you ever seen a show where the main character is tempted to do something by the naughty angel perched on their left shoulder? Well Dionne Seymour’s naughty angel becomes her naughty half when Dionne is ten years old. She names her naughty half Lionne since they spend so much time together. It seems Lionne has come into being as a more independent version of Dionne who is bullied by her older triplet sisters.
With Lionne’s help, Dionne grows up strong and independent and becomes highly succes ...more

When the author offered me a free copy of her book in exchange for an honest review, I said "yes" but I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy the read. I wasn't certain that a book about a grown woman with an imaginary friend would appeal to me. Well, let me tell you, it did. I really loved this book!
Dionne's father was a deadbeat, her mother basically ignored her and her three older sisters (triplets) not only refused to let her play with them but they were cruel. Dionne's imaginary friend Lionne c ...more

I won this book in Jessica Keefe Competition.
This review will be hard for me as it is quite frankly the first time I read a book in that genre and style.
The title had caught my attention and that's why I entered the contest even if not my usual read.
I am surprise to say that I actually loved the book. Why surprise? First, I thought due to the title, that it would be written in the first POV. It's not.

'How I Exiled My Inner Bitch' is the story of outsider Dionne, who was cruelly excluded and mocked by her triplet sisters when she was young. The imaginary twin she creates, Lionne, is rebellious and wants Dionne to stand up for herself which isn't a bad thing, but as Dionne gets older Lionne becomes more and more of a liability. When Dionne meets Greg and starts to fall for him she's terrified he'll find out about her secret.

How I Exiled My Inner Bitch by Miv Evans is a highly amusing book about Dionne, a 36-year-old woman, and her "inner bitch." The bitch is actually her imaginary twin, Lionne.. Dionne is nice, pleasing, adorable, and all she wants is to have a normal life, but Lionne is the opposite. Dionne always tries to see the best in every situation, but Lionne never stops complaining. When I started reading, it felt a little strange until I realized the writer has a unique writing style, and then I was able

Started out really cute. Probably about 30% in it got serious and showed a few real deep issues. I really liked Dionne and her sisters. Once you read it I know you will be thinking I'm crazy, but the triplets were written so well! I know that even though they were nasty it was written in that "people you love to hate " category. The mental aspect of Dionne was really good too.

How I Exiled My Inner Bitch by Miv Evans proved to be an interesting and enjoyable listen and not at all what I expected. Initially it is told from Dionne's ten year old point of view, the 'lonely young protagonist trying to make sense of her hostile world' plot, so common in fiction for the young, created the illusion that I was listening to cross-over literature. However, the title, general language and humour of the narrative firmly cements the book in the adult realm, while the combination g

I am not really good at reviews. Usually I just write down whatever I think is important which is not what a lot of people would think is important. Plus I am sure I leave out a lot. Oh, and probably some spoilers, although I really try to avoid writing anything concrete about the story. So caveat emptor and so on.
I liked this book - I read it in several pieces, riding on the tube and so on, but didn’t pick up any other book until I was done. Took me a Finsbury Park - Blackheath and back ride, ...more

OK. I have to be honest here. When I received this book from the author for a R&R, I was a bit hesitant about reading it. Firstly, because of the title which looked a bit inappropriate and so not my style. Secondly, because the book would be the first of its kind I would read so I was not sure if I could rate it properly. But once I started reading it, I was hooked. :)

I really enjoyed this book. Miv's writing was amazing, her story was unique, and I could not put this book down. This book is a one of a kind, it is really such a heartwarming and lovable book.

Full disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book by the author for review.
I'll assume you've read the book synopsis and are familiar with the storyline.
I did not care for this book at all. None of the characters except Georgia were likeable, including the main character of Dionne. The book is in present tense, and has a mostly omniscient POV. I loved this book! It made literally made my laugh, and it had me dabbing at the corners of my eyes a few times too.
Dionne is a very strong and successful individual, but she wasn't always that way. Bullied by her older sisters and neglected by her mom, Dionne invents a "bitchy" alter ego by the name of Lionne.
Unfortunately Lionne refuses to leave, even though she hasn't been helpful in a long time. Even at 36 she is still around. Dionne even has to go so far as to wear a earpiece in public so ...more

When I first started this book, I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. It starts off rather slowly and the cutesy rhyming/matching names was a bit much but once the main character Dionne meets up with her inner bitch, Lionne it got much more interesting. Like when a bully gets their due. Or when her older sisters finally leave her alone (a blessing and a curse). Was this the best thing that I have ever read? No. Was it the wo ...more

I don't even know exactly what genre I would put this book in because it is so unique. In a good way!
Such a great entertaining read while still having some deep subject matter.
I really liked watching as the relationship between Dionne, Georgia and Alanah progressed.
Definitely has a strong story line and character development while being laugh out loud funny!
