Riding is nice. But riding with a partner is much more fun…

Duke McGraw learned the hard way that life can change in the blink of an eye. Waking up from a coma, he wants nothing more than to ride back into his life—but nothing is the same, not even Lila Sinclair. With pride the size of Texas, Duke builds a wall of anger. Bent, not broken, he climbs back into the saddle to see where the rocky trail leads him. Lila loves Duke—always had, always will—but the wounds of tragedy run deeper than physical. Confused by Duke’s emotional barriers, Lila is at the end of her rope but refuses to lose hope. Tough and determined, Lila’s out to lasso her cowboy. But will her nurturing heart be broken again? A man like Duke comes with risks. When playing with fire someone is bound to get scorched. Some flames never die, and Duke and Lila’s connection is hotter than hell. Temperatures rise on the ranch and horses aren’t the only thing being ridden. When the future is at stake, choices must be made. Beyond the scars and tragedy, will love rise again or will the second chance be the last?

Rhonda Lee Carver is a bestselling author of contemporary western and romantic suspense, but she loves to write other genres too. She's known for writing stories that keep readers laughing, crying, gripping the edge of their seats, and screaming all in one book...like riding a virtual roller coaster. Whether she's creating sexy cowboys or tough guys, or sassy, independent heroines, readers are sure to find strong, powerful, memorable characters that are relatable.

By day, she taps into her creative, fictional world but at some point she transitions back into reality where she's a volleyball-stands cheerleader, homework virtuoso (at least she thinks so), amateur nurse to skinned knees, mediocre chef with some awesome microwave skills, pet-guru (all the strays show up at her house), and a Jackie of all trades for her kids who are the loves of her life. Yoga and chocolate keep her sane. Hallmark movies require cuddling up with tissues because she can be emotional. She adds a sprinkle of her own real-life adventures in each story she spins because a little truth never hurt anyone. She wouldn't give up one thing in her crazy, chaotic, ever-amusing life, except, she might do magic tricks for the bungalow on the beach she's had her eye on (GOALS).

Writing for Rhonda is like falling in love and finding a new best friend over and over again. Her characters will find a place inside your heart too.

This book is definitely a 5 star book. I can't remember the last time I sat down and was able to finish a book completely in a matter of a few hours.

Duke's character was very rough around the edges and to be completely honest with you, who wouldn't be after 1. being a cowboy, 2. he's been in a coma for 18 months and 3. he wakes up from that coma thinking that his life around him has changed.

When he wakes up, he can't use his body like he used to, he thinks the woman he loves is engaged, plus the scars from the accident. He's darn right pissed and rightly so. Now the question is, can he get through all of these obstacles to come back to the woman he loves?

Lila is a very loving and caring person. She stands by his side while Duke is in a coma. Visiting with him, hoping that he will wake up. On her last visit, she thought she was saying goodbye to the one that she loves, but received the wake up call.

Then we have Dr. Lucas who wants to marry Lila, but she is not sure she shares the same feelings.

When Duke wakes up, he doesn't feel that things can ever go back the way that it used to. He feels his relationship with Lila is over. Then he finds out he's a Daddy.

Once Duke is ready to be discharged from the hospital, Lila is ready to take on the responsibility of caring for Duke while he recovers, and gets his strength back because of her love for him.

Once he is stronger he gets back out on the ranch, leaving before dawn and coming home at sundown.

Their communication isn't exactly the best. They both bicker all the time, they both love each other, but are to stubborn to admit it . especially Duke.

This book is a great read, was well written, great format, I really didn't feel the romance, but it was there, with some steamy sex thrown in.

I will be happy to read current and future books from this author.

As a nurse I'm sure the last thing you want to see on the table in your hospital is the love of your life. That's exactly what happened to Lila when she looked at the man on the table and it was Duke the man she wanted to marry. After an accident left him in a coma for eighteen months Lila finally decided she needed to move on with her life and the very next day Duke woke up. But a stubborn man, be it a cowboy or not is a force to reckon with. As much as they tried to avoid the heat between them it always took over. Then add to the fact that they would always have a tie since they shared a child and things continue to escalate. Lila hung to the hope that Duke would find his way back to her. Sometimes we have to be tough as nails to help those we love find their way back home.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED EMOTIONAL DRAMA

A thoroughly intense read. Duke and Lila are in love; but before he can ask her to marry him, he is injured in a fire. After a long eighteen month coma, Duke finally awakens but comes out an angry changed man. Not only does he find they had a daughter, but also he is a weakened man facing a lengthy term of recovery. An excellent read filled with unbelievable emotional tension. Once the reader begins, they will be glued to these pages until the end.

What a great romance. Sexy characters that make you root for them. I loved Duke and Lila's story. Tragedy torn them apart, but love brought them back together.

I was given a copy of Second Ride Cowboy in return for an honest review.

Summary:
Lila was ready to for her forever to begin with long time on/off love Duke when one event suddenly changes everything. While working as a nurse in the ER a man is brought in after being severely burnt in a fire and lays in a coma. It isn't until she sees his telltale tattoo, that man is Duke. As days turn into weeks and months, Lila's love goes on. However, after 18 months in a coma, when Duke finally awake, will he be ready to love again or accept Lila's secret.

**Possible Spoilers**
I found this book to have a lot of back and forth. Lila's moved on, but she hasn't. She desires Duke, but she questions it. Duke wants Lila but he acts like a jerk....then is sweet and his old self again. It felt like the characters didn't know what the really wanted or how to go about making that happen. It wasn't like in some books where there is a big miscommunication at blame. This was the characters constant floundering with their wants. Say one thing, do another, then say something else. *eye roll* Mixed messages were abundant and included various love making sessions that often ended with one of the characters ticked off and running away.

I found Lila to be a bit annoying. She still loved Duke and want to be with him but had obviously been close enough with the good doctor for him to propose to her. Then she’s being upset with Duke for being a bit jealous about this. She wanted Duke to step up to be a father to their daughter, yet when he does suddenly; there is no praise, no looks of love as he snuggles with Ava. She continues to treat him like it isn't enough.

Duke's character was a bit more likeable. Sure in the beginning he was very distant, but who could blame him - he was in a coma for 18 months and woke up to a damaged body, the love of his life wearing someone else's engagement ring, and she then shares he's a father of a 9 month old. It was a lot of accept and I don't feel Lila was very understanding to this. When Duke did come out of his depressive hole, he stepped up in all areas. Yes, he had his share of mixed messages, but I felt his were more acceptable due to all that he dealt with.

I feel this book could have been improved if there were some major miscommunications. Ex: Duke learns that Lila has a baby and he assumes it's the doctors. This fuels his anger and he pushes her away. Or when Duke is bringing the vet around, Lila assumes it's a relationship so she runs to the doctor and says yes to his proposal. I just felt some major miscommunication would have led to a better climax for the story. This one felt more like a kiddie-coaster rather than a real emotional roller coaster.

I'll be interested to see what else this author has to offer in future books.

Chance and Carly's relationship had it's ups and downs, but there were a couple of constants--their love and their friends. Lila and Duke never quit on them, even when they might have quit on themselves. The tables are turned and it's Duke and Lila that need the help.

Ah, memories. Once I opened the book, it was like sitting down with close friends and catching up. I felt like I was right there with them, going through the craziness of life. I liked how Lila had grown and matured. She's a great character. Never backs down and never gives up. Duke...the man had moments where I wanted to smack him. That said, I got very emotionally involved with him. I mean, the guy had been through the wringer and having scars is never fun. I can relate. I liked the evolution and the absolutely sinful sparks between them.

If you want a down home type of story guaranteed to stick with you, then this is definitely the book for you.

This was a romantic book. Second chances. Sometimes we all need them.

Duke was a rodeo cowboy and got hurt in a rodeo accident. He was in a coma for several years. Then he came out of it and his woman was just giving up on him. She'd been by his side the whole time.
Lila had loved Duke and thought they were going to be married, but the accident happened and she stayed by his side, she had a surprize for him if he ever woke up. But she also had a Dr who was interested.
This is a wild and romantic book by Rhonda Lee Carver. I won't give away any more details, but read it. it's good.

Chance and Carly are given a second chance at love after Carly tumbles down the stairs at her father’s house and develops amnesia wiping out her memory of marriage and a baby that died. Carly’s amnesia allows the she and Chance, her ex-husband, to get back together and live under the same roof while she attempts to regain her memory. Perhaps not the most realistic story but one that is well written and that had me rooting for the couple to make it work this second time around.

Felt a little rushed

This was an ok read. Not bad for a rainy weekend afternoon. A pretty quick read. Duke resisting the relationship with Lila went on a little too long for me. Even considering that, the book felt a little rushed. His interaction with his daughter Ava was sweet. It would have been nice to see more of those scenes.
