Cute and Unique!

This is such a fun rhyming story! Blucy, the blue cat, has lots of great adventures and the illustrations are lovely! There are a few fun games at the back of the book, too!

My two year old grandson really enjoyed it.

I knew I was destined to fall in love with Blucy. We are a family of cat lovers and blue is my favorite color. In this delightful new book by Julia Dweck, we are treated to a wide array of typical “cat behaviour” – that is… aloof, playful, and a bit destructive. Scratch that… alot destructive. I had to laugh at the page where Blucy was hanging by the curtains – we have one of those cats too!

As usual, Julia Dweck entertains through brilliant whimsical rhyming verse. Here is a sample:

This time around Ms. Dweck has teamed with Erika LeBarre to produce a short sweet tale in verse about a very strange kitten.

The story begins with Mandy, the only other character, visiting the local shelter in search of just the right cat. Her eyes set upon Blucy, peacefully curled up in sleep. Mandy falls in love with her and adopts the kitten. But Blucy proves to be quite cantankerous and obstinate. She refuses to eat and drink. In fact, she disappears whenever it is time to eat. This book review should surprise no one that knows me. I love cats. Granted, I did not always. I always thought dogs were the best, but my daughter introduced me to the true joys of cats, and we now have thirteen! Okay, so this book was about a cat that I would love to have. Blue happens to be my favorite color, and this story was exquisitely written and illustrated! I could see our mischievous cats in Blucy, and my daughter is much like Lucy. I can't say whether I enjoyed the story or the facts ...more

This is a cute picture book with great illustrations. It's most appropriate for children 5-years-old and under. Girls who like cats are the main audience. The concept is fanciful and the colors are eye catching. Each illustration is accompanied four lines of rhyming prose. Good for a bedtime story.

A Blue cat?

Little Mandy wants to adopt a "special" cat. But in a roomful of cats, Mandy is confused. They all look the same, how is she ever going to choose a "special" cat? But then she spies a cat snoozing on a blue mat. And blue being her favorite color, she chooses "Blucy" for her new pet!

Like all other cats, Blucy is mischievous, adventurous and spontaneous. But little did Mandy know that "Blucy" is really special! She has a talent that no other cat has :)

Recently I reviewed Mary Had a Sleepy Sheepy by Julia Dweck. Blucy is another great eBook by the same author.

I think I'm finally a convert for eBooks, especially for children. While I do love the smell of a book, it's so much easier to read on an iPad with a toddler rather than pull out a huge book and flip the pages, wondering if they're going to get excited and rip a page. (Yep, we had that happen with a library book recently. Eek!)

Mandy chose a pet at the local pound. Her new cat was very special and she knew it right away. What Mandy didn't expect was that her cat would be so finicky and moody.

If Lucy got excited or she felt some sudden mood, the fur upon her body changed to match her attitude. So Mandy named her "Blucy" as it seemed the thing to do. Since Blucy was the only cat whose color changed to blue.

In an attempt to train her cat, Mandy realized she had no control over Blucy. This little cat wouldn't eat her food

"Blucy: The Blue Cat" by Julia Dweck is about a housecat that happens to change colors to match its mood. Because 'blue' is a color that cat seemed to particularly prefer, and Lucy was the name her caretaker, Mandy, had christened her with, she just naturally came to be called 'Blucy'.

Blucy did not like to eat at dinnertime, so she would run and hide, blending her color to match the background, and making her that much harder for Mandy to find. Mandy soon realized Blucy prefers food that is blue

5 STARS!! Blucy: The Blue Cat written by Julia Dweck and illustrated by Erika LeBarre is a wonderful rhyming story about a peculiar and particular newly adopted cat named Lucy. Mandy loves Lucy, who turns blue, who won't eat typical cat food, who camouflages herself in all things blue. Blucy is no easy cat, but Mandy stays true and never quits looking for a way cat and girl can live happily ever after. My son told me before demanding I read it again, "This is a wonderful book!" Blucy has really beautiful illustrations. The shades of blue used by the artist bring the cat to live, plus the illustrations look cute. The story written is rhythmic and perfect for kids to enjoy. The concept of this storybook is interesting, a cat who changes color and who loves the color blue. The character is created with these interesting details so a lesson can be imparted to the readers.

Mrs. Dweck has done it again! The cover is magnificent, and children will delight in Erika Lebarre's illustrations of the trials and tribulations of a girl and one very 'interesting' cat.

As the author of a picture book about an adopted pet, I appreciated the fact that everything was not immediately hunky-dory when young Mandy brought her new cat home. Sometimes, it takes a lot of patience and love to learn what makes an animal happy and feel content, an

I'm a sucker for cat picture books, so was attracted to this book, Blucy by Julia Dweck, when I saw it offered as an ebook for 99 cents. It's the story of a girl named Mandy who chooses a cat named Lucy from the pound who is different than all the rest. It's different because when it becomes excited or feels some other mood, it becomes blue, thus the name Blucy.

Blucy is a beautiful e-book that would make a great read aloud for children at home or in the classroom. It might be too difficult for really young children to read by themselves, but the way that rhyme and rhythm are used throughout, the book just begs to be read aloud. This is the aspect of the book that would also lend itself to classroom use because you could use it as a mentor text when learning about rhyme/rhythm. I think any cat lover (or blue lover!) can relate to some of Blucy’s antics ...more

I recommend this to any parent for their child that loves cats, rhyming, or just a good book.

Wow! This is the way all ebook picture books should be: full-page color illustrations with superimposed text.

Mandy chooses her new pet cat, Lucy, but soon nicknames her Blucy, short for Blue Lucy. You'll see why! Blucy is a finicky, mischievous cat, but which cat isn't?

Julia's rhyming text is fun and not too simple, challenging enough to keep young children coming back time and time again. Erika's delightful illustrations virtually leap off the page, further bringing Julia's words to life. The b
