This book introduces us to Avery Turner, a new tech billionaire, and Carter Mosley, an internet famous adventure junkie. The two met when Carter taught Avery to scuba dive. But things really kick off when Avery learns of her friend, fellow tech billionaire, Mark Hawkins’s death. The police are ruling it an accidental drug overdose. There’s just one problem with that – Avery has never seen Mark take anything stronger than an aspirin. She goes to investigate herself, and she finds a few puzzling things that Mark left behind. Soon, she’s is on the trail of a rumored treasure that dates back to the 1700’s, pulling Carter in along the way. Can they find it?

I’ve heard good things about both of these authors but hadn’t had a chance to read them before I picked up this book. I’m glad I did give their collaboration a try. While I did find the series setup a bit slow, I was still entertained. Once the plot really kicked off, I was completely hooked and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I appreciated the logic behind things when I reached the climax. I also enjoyed the main trio of characters (Avery, her assistant, and Carter). I can’t wait to spend more time with them. The violence and language was kept to a minimum, which I appreciated. A couple of things felt like they got glossed over, but that’s a minor complaint. I’m looking forward to reading more. If you are looking for an action, adventure series, you’ll be glad you picked up this book.

Ok…where do I begin.

I have had this book a while. AND I’m a HUGE fan of Lyndee Walker, Bruce is new to me. But in my head I wanted a book from her other series so I dilly-dallied.

Y’all DO NOT BE ME.

READ this book.

It has it all. Action, adventure, mystery and characters that literally leap off the pages. Once I started I could not put it down. You as a reader are literally going along for this wild adventure that is so fun. Lyndee and Bruce wrote seamlessly. It is such a fantastic adventure. I’m so mad I didn’t read sooner and yet so mad I read it in a day. I have been reading outside of my box so to speak lately and WOW am I glad.

Avery, Carter and Harry are such fun characters plus all the fabulous ones they meet along the way. I can’t wait to see what this duo has in store for us in the next book because I’m hooked. Trust me when I tell you this is a book you had no idea you needed. I can’t express enough how fun it is. Think National Treasure on steroids. (My husband has made me watch those movies a lot).

Mark my words. You will be invested with your heart hammering and cheering for this unlikely trio.

Read. This. Book!

The General’s Gold
The first scene takes us deep down under the water as Isabella’s dream goes along until it does not. The captain tries to make the ship cannot handle the currents and the strong pull of gravity and it sinks. This is the wreckage and what is found on the ship will come into the present as two people go down and look inside the ship, pictures taken, and rising to the top hoping to create an online video for people to see what a treasure ship looks like and the bounty they might find or see within it.
A cargo of trunks to be delivered to their destination as the captain gives orders when they disembark hoping to be out of the radar of the British frigate hoping they would follow the group, but the captains plan failed . Trunks preloaded and the captain put Whitenstrom in charge and launched the small boats hoping to complete the delivery. What was the location and only the captain knows it. Things seem to go okay but the captain did not tell the contents of the trunks which were quite heavy but then a cannonball split the air in two and what happens next will alert readers to something horrific about to befall the crew of this ship as the final words of Whittenstrom will reverberate in your ears as we forward to the present and meet Avery Turner. Avery was dealing with a financial issue and no holds barred. Meet Carter Mosley who will take us on a deep-sea dive along with Avery that will take you down below the surface of the ocean and view your first shipwreck. Avery’s world is about to implode when a phone call changes it all . Learning of the death of Mark Hawkins and viewing the rundown and filthy motel where he was said to have overdosed, takes her and her assistant Harrison, to explore the room, understand why he was there and then having her own pilot fuel her plane for a trip to Maine and the inn he was about to open. Avery is hardcore, tough and unyielding plus entering the inn you will understand the true meaning of opulence , class and more. Determined to uncover the reasons for his death, Harrison and Avery fly to the Hawk’s Nest his inn and meet the assistant Julie who becomes prey for someone or more that want the inn to fail or is there another reason? Avery is sure that Julie and Mark had a relationship and then after exploring the Inn along with the Police and checking every inch and cranny of Mark’s office and room they head for his house and break in to find someone had already been there. Folders, papers, maps, notes and more but why did someone give her name and address and information in order for the police to contact her? Then, deciding to learn more about his antiques Avery and Harrison decide to visit the antique shop that handled Mark’s desk and more. Adams is the man, and they also find a lion and a cross symbol and coins that might hold an answer to why someone wanted him gone? Was he looking to search for a treasure as Carter is on a deep-sea dive videoing various parts of the wreckage to air hoping to increase his following.
As the searching for clues about Mark’s death Avery and Harrison talk with many other people and find themselves at an antique shop with a woman named Louise Williams who is anything but kind, understand and suspicious of both of them as questions are asked, the coin that Avery found similar to the one Louise has and each one with a different Roman Numeral. Twelve trunks take us back to the prologue where the crew was bringing the trunks out and off the ship but what exactly was in the trunks and is that what she claims was the General’s Gold or treasure? Lives will be at stake as there are others who want this treasure and someone who wants Carter followed thinking he might be the answer to finding the treasure although he is teaching scuba diving, sky diving and is not a treasure hunter. For some reason someone wants him out of the picture and Avery seems to be bent on following Mark’s dream after the authors share his family history, what is grandfather wanted to do and then we learn more about Williams and her husband, the ship that sank in the prologue and Avery and Harrison are now on quest to find the treasure even though they have been threatened, warned and much more. The author shares the history of the time period in the past, who might have some link to the lost treasure, name of the ship and then Avery persists on going through Mark’s files, books, maps and much more hoping to find the answers to get her what she wants to find: THE TREASURE!
Emails from someone named Maggie that leads him to believe there is more to them and that Mark was hiding things from her. Her App is used to tip people that could afford it what the hot places to gamble and go to would be. It sold for billions but there is something hidden and the basis for a lawsuit. Thinking fast and not thinking it out she decides to go to Martha’s Vineyard and approach a man that is dangerous, knew Mark and hopefully might give her the answers namely to a desk he bought, the origin, the seller and more. Needing to be wary of others, realizing that trust is not an option, while she is doing this Carter taught a sky diving lesson and what happens there lets you know that someone is after him and Avery needs to watch her back too. Impulsive, impetuous and always taking risks and not thinking about the consequences, endangering her life and Harrison’s she is on a one-woman quest to find answers and then the treasure. But, the sides are now going to change and meet with a powerful and ruthless man who knew Mark and enlightened them about the history of the ship that sank, the treasure and his family’s ties to it, the authors leave Avery and Harrison wondering why this man wanted the desk that Mark had in his house, how could he help her with Daimler and his lawsuit, where will this go next? Plus, someone stole the diary she had that would unravel the mystery of the ship the Bonnet Rouge , leading them to contact Carter and now the race is on for who will find the treasure and the dangers that will encounter. The destinations change as Avery decides impulsively and checks their phones and realizes there are tracking devices and her plan she hopes to hide where they might work. Virginia and Black Mountain Foothills is where they are now and staying at a beautiful place with an owner who is treating them royally. But things are about to change and when the owner’s nephew mentions something about where the treasure might be, someone else says it’s just story and legend and we are coming close to the finale.
Underwater drama, going deep and down into a mine, learning the truth behind the desk and why Mark wanted it. You won’t believe what lies beneath the veneer and more as Avery and Carter take one more risk and Harrison finds himself at the mercy of someone who thought Corbacho was Mark’s friend. The final chapters will keep you on the edge of your seat as Avery, Harrison and Carter risk their lives, are hunted by killers and more until the ending and you won’t believe it. Was there really a treasure? Did they find the gold? What will she do with it if she does find it? With so many who blindsided her and so much at risk how far will she go risking it all just to capture THE GENERAL’s GOLD? The author leaves Seus wondering what ‘s next for her and Carter. Find out when you read the next installment in the series you won’t be disappointed.

It is LynDee Walker, what else do you need to know to be assured that The General's Gold is a book you are going to love? I am not as familiar with Bruce Coffin but what I have read has been excellent. Action and adventure keep this intense tale moving from the moment multi-millionaire Avery Turner gets the call that her mentor is dead. Scuba diving in the Keyes is awesome, but it is nothing to the dangers that she is about to face trying to discover why a man that she loves is dead. No way does she accept that he accidently overdosed or committed suicide. Accompanied by her assistant and father figure, the retired homicide detective who was her mother's partner for decades, Avery heads to Boston and begins and amazing, and scary, journey to lost treasure and answers.
The only negative I found was way too much description that did not advance the story. I suspect a lot of readers will say that those details made them fill as if they were there right next to Avery, Harry, and Carter.

I received this book from a Goodreads Giveaway and this is my honest review. Avery Turner’s close friend is found dead of a drug overdose in Boston. She doesn’t believe it for a minute. She finds out that he was looking for some hidden gold from the Civil War era. But is it simply a legend or does it really exist? She’s been taking deep sea diving lessons from Carter Mosley and enlists his help along with close friend, Harrison, a retired homicide detective. But they’re being followed every step of the way by some dangerous treasurer hunters who aren’t fooling around. I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure tale. I’m looking forward to reading more tales involving Avery and Carter.

The General's Gold is the perfect story for history and treasure hunter lovers. It kept me engaged from the beginning and wondering if all the leads would direct our hunting trio to the general's gold and if they would uncover the truth about the treasure. It has a good storyline, it's well-written, fast-paced, and full of action. Great entertainment! Looking forward to reading other books in this series.
I thank Ms. Walker and her publisher for this ARC.

I enjoyed the relationships among the characters probably the most in this first book in the series. The development of Avery. Harrison, and Carter was well crafted. The plot was a bit slow for me and hunting for sunken treasure is not my thing. The second half of the book was much more engaging. The possibility of a love interest between Avery and Carter will most likely drive me to read the sequel.

This is the first book in what seems to be a promising series. The plot is complex, with many twists and turns and non-stop action. The characters are well drawn and believable. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to seeing where the authors take these new characters. I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to write a voluntary, unbiased review.

Great book, Avery is smart and has some good people around her. Harry is an ex cop who was her mom’s partner on the force. Carter is a diving buddy from the Caribbean. Avery sold her app for billions and now lives the life in the Caribbean. Her former boss is killed and Avery is avenging his death by trying to find a treasure that Mark had been searching for and probably got him killed.

terrific nonstop action!

Great characters add to this high octane tale of lost treasure. Think The DaVinci Code on steroids with two kickass protagonists. Lively bantering dialogue adds to the fun.

Excellent

Excellent story! These are two of my favorite authors so I figured this book would be good but I wasn’t sure about the “treasure hunter aspect “ but it was extremely well done. I’m looking forward to the next adventure ! The characters were great, as well!

This was a fun adventure. Scuba diving, corrupt corporations and outright murderers, plus an unexplained death of an old friend chalked up to suicide, but maybe it isn't? Glad to see it is listed as the Turner and Moseley Files #1 so there must be a second installment coming.

My first LynDee Walker book was actually a novella included in Heartache Motel. Since then, I read all of her Nichelle Clarke series and her Faith McClellan series. The General's Gold is a great start to a new series -- lots of adventure, mystery, danger, and some history. I'm looking forward to The Cardinal's Curse and will be checking out books by Bruce Robert Coffin.

My daughter got me an advance reader copy from her local library.

The heroes in this book were a combination of Jonathan and Jennifer Hart and Indiana Jones and Lara Croft. I really enjoyed this book, which is the first in a series.

I had never read any books by these authors, but I will definitely read The Cardinal's Curse, which is the next book in this series.

The General’s Gold by Lyndee Walker and Bruce Robert Coffin is billed as the first book of The Turner and Mosley Files. It is a read that is very reminiscent of early Clive Cussler books. We have shipwrecks, a hunt for treasure, and a plot by bad actors to get the loot first. It is also a fun and good read.

It begins down in the Florida Keys with Avery Turner. Young, recently rich thanks to the sale of her app to a tech company, she is a bit bored with her life. She likes being independently wealthy as well as her new home on an island in the Keys. But, something is missing. She is a bit bored.

She has recently taken up scuba diving and Carter Mosley is teaching her how to go about things safely. His passion is diving to shipwrecks, mainly modern-day commercial vessels. That has resulted in a growing social media platform. Like Avery, his efforts are attracting attention from the wealthy in his industry, and he has opportunities as well as obstacles to manage. He is also a bit of an adventurer and is one of those folks who likes jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.

As part of her scuba training, Carter takes her down to the first wreck he ever dived, and the one that made him famous, Isabella’s Dream. The sunken freighter will be good training dive for her and it was.

She had a blast, but reality crashed in once they got back to the surface. A detective in Boston calls with the news that Mark Hawkins, friend, business partner, and more, is suddenly dead. Boston PD is treating it as a drug overdose.

She knows better and is soon on her private plane, along with her assistant, Harrison, as she wants to see the crime scene herself. Fortunately, Harrison worked with her mom long ago on the job and can make calls to help smooth the way.

At same time, Carter goes about his life in the Keys, aware that he is being watched. Who is watching him and why are two questions he can not answer.

Before long, both are involved in escalating situations. All events lead to a ship that went down during the civil war. It may have been filled with a treasure that would have financed the south after victory. Who knows what it could finance today?

What follows is a read that moves up and down the east coast in a hunt for the lost ship and its cargo. Multiple secondary story lines are also at work giving additional character depth as well as obstacles. The result is a complicated fast-moving adventure read that fully engages the reader. The General’s Gold is a mighty good read and well worth your time.

Both the publisher, Severn River Publishing, by way of NetGalley, as well as author Bruce Robert Coffin supplied ARCs for my use. In neither case was there any expectation of a review.

Firstly, thank you to the publishers for supplying an advance copy of this book which is the first of three Avery and Carter novels due to be published in April, June and October of this year.

The General’s Gold has everything you would wish for in a modern thriller; great characters, excitement, lots of villains, plenty of wealth and action across varied locations, some of which are lavish.

I’ve not heard of either author before but individually they have a number of published novels. One assumes that Bruce Robert Coffin uses his background as a police detective to flesh out Harrison’s character with LynDee Walker taking the lead on Avery’s storylines. Whatever way the workload is split the partnership really works as the lively plot keeps the reader engaged. I enjoyed the different action scenes and the colourful locations, showing off several attractive features of the eastern United States.

The three lead characters really work well together. As with many literary partnerships, Avery and Carter have, to date, a platonic relationship that hints of closer union later. With his years of police experience, the older Harrison brings stability to the team. During their travels they meet some interesting people, good and bad, who help this novel to really sparkle. In giving Avery a backstory of achieving great wealth at a young age the authors have given her the ability to fund her investigations including a private jet which certainly speeds up movement across the country.

Many aspects of the plot may well have been used in previous literature. For centuries books have featured sunken or buried Spanish treasure and for me anything nautical or featuring diving is a draw. So what if some of it seems familiar, at the end of the day we all love what we know and Walker and Coffin certainly know how to put everything together to make a good story.

The General’s Gold really had me hooked. Nothing less than a five star read. Look out for all three novels: The General’s Gold to be published in April 2024, The Cardinal’s Curse in June 2024 and The Pirate’s Secret in October 2024. Amazon are currently offering all three e-books on pre-order at between £1.99 to £2.99 each.

Story starts with Turner and Mosley are in the Florida Keys on a deep dive. Carter Mosley - is a deep-sea shipwreck diver also an ‘Instagram’ Star. He has been trying to get Avery Turner to try deep-sea diving. She finally does and just loves it. However, when they get back on the boat there is a call for Avery from a Boston detective telling her that her number was found with a man named Mark Hawkins who is dead. Avery is in shock; Mark is a dear friend in fact, Avery has secretly been in love with him.
Avery is a billionaire computer genius, her mother was a homicide detective and her partner was Harrison. Her mother was in an accident as was Harrison; however, he now is Avery’s right-hand man. She tells Harrison to order her private jet for a trip to Boston.

Mark Hawkins apparently died of an overdose. Avery knows that isn’t true. Mark never did drugs. .
Avery and Harrison are out to find the truth. Avery soon believes that Mark knew his life was in danger. He hid a series of clues that would lead to the solving the mystery surrounding the General's Gold.
The first half of the book had me a bit confused why this series is called “The Turner and Mosley Files” as Carter Mosley wasn’t in this part.

Soon their adventure includes Carter as they travel from Boston, to Maine, then from the mountains of Virginia to the depths of the Atlantic Ocean and face nasty gangs, man-eating sharks,
Story turned out better than expected. I do judge a book by its cover and I was not impressed by this cover. But, the story was great! I love the main characters as well as the pulse-pounding adventure and look forward to next in this series.

Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Select/Severn River Publishing for granting me this early audio Galley.
