I was slightly more than 600 pages into Stephen King's Under the Dome when The Dordogne Deception was delivered from Amazon. Since Amazon prints the synopsis of the story from the dust jacket of a book, I already knew that there was a great plot in The Dordogne Deception. So the day that it was delivered, I decided to take a short break from Under the Dome to read the first chapter of The Dorgogne Deception, just to see if I liked the author's writing style. By the time I reached page 26 (the en ...more

What a debut novel by author Sherry Joyce. This book intrigued me from the Prologue. Almost every woman alive has fantasized, at least once, about offing a boyfriend or husband. There are characters and accomplices in this book callous enough to do it and get away with it for a long time. Was it the perfect crime? Will evil triumph?

The protagonist, Cherise Eden, is very appealing. With her first name meaning dear or darling and her surname suggesting the original Garden of Innocence, it’s easy t

I’m always skeptical of starting a new mystery, because most are never as good as they appear to be. However, I really enjoyed this book! This novel features a good, solidly developed storyline; a storyline devoid of an overly complicated narrative structure. The characters were quite interesting - flawed, but nevertheless, interesting. I don’t want to give too much away, but I will say this book features a generally smart lead character, that entranced me from the first introduction, Brett Maxf ...more

Romance, Suspense and Surprises

The suspenseful DORDOGNE DECEPTION grabbed me from the first page and didn’t let go. Sherry Joyce has weaved a story of murder, treachery and deceit with such skill it was hard to believe this was a debut novel.

Unsuspecting and vulnerable Cherise Eden thinks she’s succeeded in finding love and putting her life back together after being blindsided by divorce, but trouble strikes again, and this time the stakes are much higher.

Joyce delivers everything you want in

When a romance novel opens not with a crime of passion but a conspired, premeditated murder, there should be no doubt that the book is not your typical boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love and live happily ever after fairytale. The Dordogne Deception is a sordid, dark romantic thriller.

Most of the book is told from two perspectives; Brett who is investigating the death of his friend/mentor and Cherise who is living a fairytale life in a French chateau. These two have never met and have no i

I really enjoyed The Dordogne Deception! I started reading the book in the bathtub and was immediately hooked. After Chapter 3, while still reading in the tub, I had shriveled to a prune. Author Sherry Joyce's (and her editor's) attention to detail is great. She leaves no stones unturned with regard to full character development and I felt quite a range of emotions for each of the characters in the story. This book is definitely a fast read with regard to the story being suspenseful, interesting ...more

"The Dordogne Deception is an entertaining mix of passion and deceit among characters rife with self-absorbed motives that take us on a journey through murder and mayhem before landing us squarely among the stoic and strong. Cleverly plotted amid richly depicted scenery one feels as if there, in the castle sipping tea and eating croissants while reading about romance and recompense. This was a very fast and fun read!"

The Dordogne Deception has been one of the most interesting editing projects I've had the pleasure to work on. The nonstop action, with plot twists and turns that keep the reader turning the pages, makes this a thoroughly satisfying romantic suspense. With locations set in San Francisco, Southwest France and the English Cotswolds, the reader breathlessly follows Cherise’s journey as she discovers that decisions made during a time of vulnerability can be dangerous. For a delightful diversion from ...more

Every so often you pick up a book and you are immediately carried away. I was carried away by Ms. Joyce's book. I was so disappointed when I came to the last page. This is a read you don't want to pass on. Read, enjoy and be ready to be royally entertained. I'm looking forward to reading her again.

The author can describe the characters emotions and actions very well, better than most authors. I enjoyed the romance in this book, although often very sexually loaded. Not for young readers or prudes. The author has a good sense of what the Dordogne is like, she describes the colors of the sky and the lightning perfectly. But having been there often as a Belgian I can see that, since the author is American, she lacks insight about travelling in France. An elderly couple will never visit Versai ...more

Book review by Susan Sewell/Reader's Favorite yesterday. "The Dordogne Deception by Sherry Joyce is a suspenseful and intricately woven web of intrigue filled with greed, lust and murder. A group of strangers is brought together by one man's avarice and another man's murder. Each of them is drawn into the snare, victims of the same psychopath. Cherise Eden, reeling from an unexpected and painful divorce, leaves her home in San Francisco and moves to France to start a new life. Lady Diana Aubrey ...more
