WHAT IT'S ABOUT

Alex is retelling a story from his youth to his son. During his teenage years, his father has died and he now suffers at the hands of his abusive step-father. Spending more and more time away from home, he begins to experience the violent deaths of others when he touches belongings of the dead.

WHAT I LIKED

-It was an easy story to engage with.

-There was depth given to the main character, Alex was fleshed out nicely.

-The paranormal elements of the story were interesting, just enough

Review: A LIFE OF DEATH [Episode 1]

This is a GREAT story!! Seamless plotting, vividly-detailed "flashbacks" [my term for Alex's death-visions], poetic lyricism which elevates the story onto the literary level, all combine in a can't-put-down, supernatural, paranormal, mystery/thriller, suffused with real life issues [death, bullying, domestic and child abuse, foster care system failings, and more]. Then, too, we learn through Alex's visions that the human traits of adultery, murder, pathological

A Life of Death begins with Alex, a detective, telling his son about his childhood for a school project. Alex’s life was far from normal; most would call it horrific. He tries to stay out of his stepfather’s way but the man beats Alex on a regular basis. One day, while he is walking to school, Alex touches a fence outside of an old house and has a vision of a woman being murdered. He soon has other visions and finds out that they are all real. He can see the last moments of a death just by touch ...more

This review is for the Kindle edition ebook.

Disclosure: I was requested by the author to give an honest review of this book.

Mystery, abuse, courage, and teenagers all need to come together to make this story work.

Alex is a teenager with a troubled past. He is abused at home, and picked on by many classmates. When he touches an object that a murder victim last touched, he sees their death, as if he were the victim. Alex must learn to stand up for these victims, even if no one will believe a troub

(Review for episodes 1-6)

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Alex has a whole lot to deal with and while he sometimes acts without thinking (as most teenagers do), he was well-rounded and unwilling to give up when it came down to it. Frankly, the fact that he pushed through the beatings and abuse doled out to him -- not to mention the whole reliving death thing -- and came out as normal and non-psychopathic as he did was outstanding.

If anyone had an excuse to lose his marbles, Alex would be

First, I've read the entire series, so this review applies to all of the Episodes this book will be released as.

That out of the way, growing up is never easy, but Alex, the main character Weston Kincade has created in his Life of Death, has certainly gotten the short end of the stick. His father is dead, and his mother married a drunk, abusive man who likes to use Alex as a punching bag. Then there are the visions; disturbing visions Alex has about the dark secrets that swirl around him; family

A Life of Death is filled with imagery that'll definitely stick with you. From the reality of a young boy's life in an abusive household to his visions of other people's violent ends, Kincade paints with vivid color the fear that haunts a young person trapped in a bad situation. Alex's encounters with the dead are compelling and provocative, but it's his real life that gave me the most chills. Character driven and suspenseful, this is a paranormal mystery novel with heart.

I didn't read the whole series, only episode 1 and 2. My rating is for them both. Didn't tease me enough to purchase the remaining episodes.
