Teague Werres lives in an age of technological wonders he can’t have. His family’s church rejects space settlement, the Virtual Internet—even Vanilla, a longevity drug that gives humans several extra centuries to explore the real and digital worlds now open to them. Teague’s only link to modern life is a childhood toy: a robotic ring-tailed lemur with hardwired charisma an ...more

I picked up this book after reading Keuren's book Rhubarb, a light sci-first book with an edge of humor. I was a bit to surprised to discover that the author of such a simple but enjoyable book is also capable of writing a fairly complicated story. While that is impressive, I must say that it was actually a little bit too complex for me. With a sizable cast of characters, a significant span of time (more so than usual due to the longevity of the characters), multiple locales — from cities to pla ...more

I'm in love with Monkey. I want a Monkey for my very own ... sigh. If the children of our future are fortunate enough to be blessed with anything close to these wonderful little companions ... perhaps I'll freeze myself :)
Besides my Monkey crush, this book was excellent. A nice full novel. Nice and long. Stuffed full of details and character development, no shortcuts and also no unnecessary word padding. It's all good and needed for a great story. I'm not going to tell the story, you'll need to

At 650 pages, a story becomes too lengthy, unless it’s skillfully told. And this book is very skillfully told. The characters and the future setting are believable and the story is interesting.

Part of this novel is set in space, however no light sabers are drawn and no ray guns fired. Indeed, the only instances of violence occur not in space, but in a Bangkok boxing gym and over breakfast in a refugee camp. Large battles are planned and fought, but the action doesn’t occur on battlefields. And t

**I won Legitimacy through the goodreads first reads.**

Legitimacy is a rich and complex novel set in a futuristic but believable future. The characters were well fleshed out, their emotions and dialogs very real. And while I was confused by what tied it all together at first, it soon became clear.
I will read Legitimacy again and again, and I look forward to reading more of M.H. Van Keurens work in the future.

Another fantastic book by Mr. Van Keuren! He really knows how to set the scene in a futuristic tale. Both the story and characters were believable and well developed. I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes in the next book and can't wait OH! I now want a Monkey.

Wow

I try to reserve 5s for amazing stories. I give this a 4 because I've just finished and haven't gotten to think much about it yet. This was a truly original and spectacularly original story. Really, all I can say is wow.

M.H. Van Keuren quit a perfectly good job to devote his life to writing science fiction. He lives in Billings, Montana, with his wife and two sons.
