The first thing Fran saw when he rode into the keep was not the river, or the bridge, but the dogs. There were dozens of them, thick-coated white and grey beasts that could almost be wolves if not for the way so many of them stayed matched with the men in the yard, staying in pace just behind their heels. They roamed free, too; Fran passed a cluster of them tussling on the ...more

Wow, what a well-written story. The writing style was very strong and perfect for a medieval-fantasy. The story isn't that original and reminded me very strongly of Jon Snow's perils in Castle Black from "A Song Of Ice And Fire" Series. But as a big fan of that series and Jon Snow's character, the similarity actually lured me in. All in all, I enjoyed this light little story and I look forward to reading more stories from this author.

This short is very Game of Thrones-ish. Imagine Jon Snow next to the "North" falling in love with a "brother" there and a bunch of dogs nearby.

Yeah, sounds extremely cool, right? I must admit that I hoped for that kind of twist in that story, but that didn't happen.

I don't have to dream anymore, because we have this little story to make up for it. But not completely, because now I'm dreaming of more of these two after that promising ending. This story is worth it, I'm deeply frustrated Domashit

A very interesting world, there's a strong ending but I really didn't want to leave the characters, I wanted to travel on with them. I want to know why the river is rising. This would make a great full length novel From Millan.Net

Fran is a refreshing change to the usual privilaged boy being sent to join a tough brotherhood trope. He is not weak and in need of rescuing but has valuable skills and quickly proves his worth. The brotherhood themselves are interesting, a tough crowd with their own stories.

A great fantasy story. I'm just a bit unsatisfied with the ending: Fran and Kašin (view spoiler).
