Clint McBride has spent seven long years running from his past, believing he was responsible for the death of his best friend. A chance layover in Phoenix leads him home to Prescott, Arizona, but he has no intention of staying. Once he takes care of unfinished business he intends to leave the state—for good.
Ella Fisher can’t believe Clint is back. As a matter-of-fact, she’s furious with him for leaving without a word and for not letting anyone know he was even alive. Clint had been her big brother’s best friend, and her teenage crush. She’d been devastated by not only her brother's death but the pain of Clint’s disappearance from her life.
When Clint and Ella meet for the first time since his return, the exchange is a fiery one, and despite the rekindled attraction, Ella lets Clint know in no uncertain terms how furious she is. Clint can’t believe how his friend’s sister is all grown up, no longer the kid that used to tag along with them. Ella is all woman…and he’s afraid he won’t be able to keep his hands off her. He's not even sure if he wants to.
As Clint struggles with making some hard decisions, Ella fears her heart is about to be ripped apart again. Are they crazy or does this relationship feel like forever?
Cheyenne McCray fell in love with reading and writing early, deciding in kindergarten that one day she would become an author. Today, she is an award-winning New York Times and USA Today bestselling fiction author who’s sold millions of books worldwide. Having published more than 100 novels and novellas in contemporary and paranormal romance, urban fantasy and romantic suspense, she is now also writing cozy mysteries as Deb Ries.
Chey grew up on a ranch in southeastern Arizona and delights in creating stories of suspense, love, and redemption with characters and worlds her readers can get lost in. Chey and her equally geeky husband live with their two dogs, six ducks (the neighborhood celebrities), and a small flock of chickens in a small Arizona town where she enjoys gardening, crazy quilting and, of course, writing.
Ahh I enjoyed this story of falling for the brothers best friend. It was a little emotional because of the subject matter but I liked how it wasn’t all about the death but about the living.
Ella’s is an interesting character and her art sounds interesting as all heck, and the way she creates its raw and I liked that.
I also enjoyed the fact that she doesn’t just jump into his arms the moment she sees him she lets it play out naturally and that for me at least let it feel more authentic.
Again broken record here, the narrator just sounds too old for these characters.
Cheyenne McCray keeps me intrigued with this fun, sexy series. Book 6 is Clint and Ella's story. Clint has returned Prescott after being gone for 7 years. He has carried a huge weight on his shoulders after the death of his best friend. Now that he is back, he sees Ella, his best friend's sister in a whole new light. No longer the little girl, she is everything he wants. Ella has had a crush on Clint forever. Now that he is back in town, is he here to stay? This is a sweet listen with some steam. It's full of feels, misunderstandings, forgiveness and love. I really enjoy the all the characters. McCray changes things up in each story, so the series is fresh and enjoyable. While some of the characters overlap, they can each be listened to as a standalone. Give Clint and Ella a listen!
David Quimby is the voice of this series. He always makes the listens fun with his many voices and ability to give the perfect inflections. He has a great pace and I love his way of pulling me in and keeping me there.
The Audio by David Quimby was really great. I think it really carried the book further than it wold have gone had I read the book myself.
Clint used to be at the top of the rodeo circuit until his best friend died; he blamed himself and took off from home for 7 years. Now that hes back in town Ella, his best friend's sister, is mad at him for leaving her and their families behind. Clint isn't sure he plans to stay in town, but Ella's dad convinces him that the family needs help with the farm and he takes over as foreman.
The storyline itself was great and convinced me to read the rest of the series. It was kind of sad as they've all lost someone, but lots of feels as they are finding a way to heal. What I didn't like was how immature Ella was. No matter what Clint did it was never the right thing. He could never please her or meet her standards but he was relentlessly in love and kept perusing her. I could understand the initial anger from her but she claims to be in love with him but turns him away at every opportunity.
Clint McBride high-tailed it out of town 7 yrs ago without a word to anyone, leaving a devastated Ella Fisher behind. The Ella Fisher who was his best friend's little sister and was totally off limit! Now Clint is back in town to take care of some business and suddenly Ella is not so little anymore. But Clint is still dealing with guilt...he has always believed that he was responsible for his best friend's death...and he refuses to betray his promise to said friend to stay away from Ella...maybe? Can he really resist the insane attraction that he has to Ella? That is, if Ella can ever forgive him for running away? Will there be an HEA for this couple or will Clint's guilt force him to give up his true love? This is another great book in the Riding Tall series. Always a treat to catch up with the McBrides. Narration was spot on...this narrator has the perfect voice for the portrayal of a 'cowboy' story! I voluntarily accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This one was slightly iffy for me. I am not always the biggest fan of cowboy listens because sometimes the accent's get out of control, but I love Cheyenne McCray and thought eh, why not? And I am so glad I did! The narrator does and excellent job with these characters voices without letting it get out of control! The story is fast paced and keeps you interested. Clint has a lot of issues to work through, especially after being away for so long. But he has Ella there to help him once she gets past her anger for him leaving in the first place. And they are absolutely sweet together once they work through everything and truly get what they mean to each other. I really enjoyed this one!
Love the chemistry between Ella and Clint, it was a long time coming.
Guilt is a powerful and debilitating emotion that can be the cause of needless suffering. Clint could have prevented all his pain if at least talk to the friend family before he disappeared. He learnt that running away from his problems just compounded them. Coming back home and confronting his fears was the only thing that gave him peace.
I feel it for Johnny Parker, but at least he didn't go all crazy on Ella when his feelings for her wasn't reciprocated. Loveable characters fantastic plot and good narrator. 👍
Although this is the sixth book in this series, it is the first I have listened to and had no issues so it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. This story give you a little bit on a second chance love story but not quite. Such heartbreak in the beginning of the book that the characters just don’t see their way past it. I absolutely loved the way this story worked out in the end and will be looking forward to more in the future. Narration was perfect.
Clint has returned home after 7 years. He still feels responsible for Bucky's death, whilst riding broncos. He should have stopped his friend, as he thought he was drinking. Now Clint is home, Bucky's father explains to Clint that Bucky had heart problems and that it had nothing to do with drinking. Clint's love interest is Ella, who happens to be Bucky's sister. A very enjoyable and easy read. Great characters and storyline. I really enjoyed this story. 5☆
I enjoyed this book, but I’m not sure this genre is really my style. I haven’t listened to that many cowboy romances and this one was very country. It took me a little while to get into, but I think that was a personal preference. The narration was good and I did want to see how it ended. If cowboy romance is your thing I’m sure you will enjoy this book!
Clint returns after a long absence, Ella has had a crush on him since she was a teenager. When he returns he has to get past all her anger and hurt from his long absence. He has to decide whether he's going to stay and if he does he has to convince Ella he's not going to abandon her again.

Who doesn't like the prodigal son storyline? Especially when he's built. Clint left his hometown seven years ago after his best friend died. At the time, he didn't know the secret his friend was hiding.
But alas this is a love story. Yes it has a HEA. But it has bumps along the way. What relationship doesn't.
I listened to the audiobook and thoroughly enjoyed the narrator. David Quimby knows how to tell this story and relate the guilt, fear, hope and love of the characters.
I was so excited when I got notice this book was released. I love this series and have read several of the books in this series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, though so no worries about missing out. Cheyenne McCray can write Westerns and Paranormal romances very well. I love both genres and love everything I’ve read from her. She’s amazing!
Ella is a very strong, independent woman. She’s loved Clint forever, but he left when she needed him most. Who’s to say he won’t do that again. She doesn’t know if she’s strong enough to deal with what his leaving will cause.
Clint has blamed himself for his best friend’s death for years. When he unexpectedly shows up in his hometown seven long years after running, some people don’t seem too happy to see him. He’s not planning on staying, but some of the best laid plans well, you know what they say.
The fact that Ella was willing to let him in, even while she believed he was going to hurt her said a lot to me. She’s a very brave woman. He’s already hurt her once, who’s to say he won’t do it again.
If you love western romances, you will love this book. These two are amazing and this series is nonstop action. Ms. McCray definitely knows how to write chemistry and sizzling heat. Of course, the cover doesn’t hurt either.
Blaming yourself for your friend's death is a tough nut to swallow.
After 7 years of being away, it was time for Clint to face his past. Coming home and being faced with Ella, his best friend's kid sister-the one that followed them around everywhere-was one of the toughest things he'd ever had to do.
Ella was furious with him. He had left with no notice. He hadn't been in contact with anyone for 7 years. She knew her brother's death wasn't Clint's fault. Now if only she could convince him of that.
Things were too complicated no matter the fireworks between the two but Clint and Ella couldn't fight it forever.
This story will make anyone's heart bleed for the emotional journey Clint must go through to learn to forgive himself and realize that sometimes, everything isn't quite what it seems. "Crazy For You" is an emotionally uplifting romance that is bound to heat things up for you.
Romance is in the air. Clint McBride is back in Arizona after being gone for 7 years. Feeling responsible for the death of his best friend, Clint just packed up and hit the road as soon as the funeral was over. He's backpacked all over Europe and spent a few years in Argentina. But there's been a pull ... something telling him he needs to go home.
His best friend's little sister has all grown up. She's not the gawky teenager she was when Clint left ... and took her heart with him.
Now that he's back, Clint is seeing Ella in a whole new light and decides that she does it for him and he's out to earn her love. Ella is so afraid that he will up and leave again, she's afraid to give him her love.
This was a bit like being on a roller coaster ride... ups and down, ups and down. So will he stay to win her over .. or will she be just stubborn enough to turn away? Choices can be difficult for all concerned.
After 8 years in a run, Clint's back. Finally. The guilt was the thing that had made him run, and he thought that his family at home hated him. Boy, he was wrong. Ella's been in love with Clint since she was a teenager. Now that she's all grown up and Clint's back, she's in agony. What if Clint didn't liked her back?
Very cute and fluffy romance. If you want to read simple love story with minimum angst and maximum hotness, read this one.
I love how Clint's family and Ella's welcomed him after so many years. Clint left and when he come back, they're just as happy as family can be. I liked it. Make me warm inside.
All I know now I want to read the rest of the series. Eeeeep! Nailed it, Miss Cheyenne! :)))
I really liked Clint he was so dominant but sweet!!! However I found Ella to be really annoying! One minute she wants Clint and the next she's mad and don't want him to touch her! It's like that through most of the book!! I really wanted to slap her and tell her to get over it already and stop fighting the attraction! I did find this one a little refreshing though! It's different than the other books in this series! It seems like in all the others the main woman is always in danger or someone Is out to get her! In this one there's no danger just hard work and creativity and lots of love/hate going on. I enjoyed this one.
This was a sweet story...there wasn't a lot of angst or drama. Which was a great after reading the last few books in this series. Don't get me wrong I love the drama and angst as well as the edge of your seat suspense in the others but the sweetness of this story gave you a break from that and was refreshing. CLint I really liked him, and Ella she is a spitfire and I loved that about her, and I can't wait to read about Cody along with the rest of the McBride clan. I'll say it again if you haven't read this series give it a try...I have enjoyed it thoroughly.
This is one of my favourites in this series... Clint left Prescott 7yrs ago, after blaming himself for the death of his best friend.. Now he's back for a short stay, but bumps into the one person he can't face... Ella is the sister of his friend, when Clint left she was a teenager. Now she's a stunning woman and he can't help the pull towards her, even when the first thing she does is slap him..... Ella hates that Clint left the day after her brothers funeral and didn't come back... Her family needed him and he just left... can she ever forgive him???
4.25* This was a fabulous love story. Ella and Clint had great chemistry and some very hot sex scenes. *fanning self*. I liked how their relationship built through out the book and Clint was such a hot alpha male that it sometimes took all his control not to roll right over Ella. Not to say Ella wasn't strong because she could handle herself. It was fun to watch their relationship build. I highly recommend this series.
I love these sexy cowboys and cannot get enough of these books.
Cheyenne McCray is amazing and her books take you away and you feel as though you are part of the story and not jst reading them.
This book has amazing characters and an awesome story. It moved along at a great pace and I could not believe it when I got to the end. I needed more of this fantastic series.
Everyone needs to experience the awesome cowboys of Riding Tall.
This was one of my favorites of series so far. I love the connection between Clint and Ella. Once again, this book could be a stand alone. With all of the leading men in these stories being McBride's, I wish there was more family interaction so that I was already connected to the family instead of learning of each one when their story comes out.
This time there were not action packed adventures but it was nice to come back and focus on teenage crushes that have turned into so much more. Definately, as good as the rest. The McBrides are goind to have some more boys so that this adventure can keep going! Look forward to reading the last few in this series.
Absolutely cute and adorable along with moments of "hotness"! If you enjoy sweet romances and a HEA then this quick read is right up your alley! I enjoyed reading this book and all the others in the series including the entire Rough & Ready series as well.
Started reading this about a week or so ago and just finished it up. It was ok in the series of 10 books. I really like Cheyenne Mccray's books. She is a awesome author. Read a lot of her steamy books.
This book was different from the previous books in the series. Clint and Emma's story was more light hearted and fun.
Clint came back to town with a heavy burden on his shoulders. Ella's reaction to seeing him for the first time in 7 years, resulted in a slap to his face. But Ella didn't understand why he left in the first place.
There was not a lot of angst in this book. No one was trying to kill Clint or Ella. There was no element of romantic suspense. There weren't as many McBride's in this book. Although I found Ella to be a somewhat irritating, this was still an enjoyable read.
I actually read it in the Riding Tall 2 boxed set.
