A Match Made in Texas

Rate this book
A Match Made in Texas is the sixth book in Katie Lane's bestselling, witty and sexy Deep in the Heart of Texas series.

Living with four over-protective brothers is enough to make a good girl go bad. But the day Brianne Cates hits the road for a taste of freedom, she gets more trouble than she bargained for when she's arrested by a sexy sheriff in mirrored shades. Now doing a stint of community service, she's not going to let a cowboy cop like Dusty Hicks mess with her newfound independence-even if he awakens every wicked fantasy she's ever had.

In Bramble, Texas, Dusty is the law. That means no leniency for the gorgeous rebel whose highway antics almost got them both killed. The divorced lawman doesn't need another rich, pampered princess, even if Brianne has the lushest body and sweetest smile in the whole darn state. But even as Brianne proves that she lives to walk on the wild side, Dusty begins to wonder if maybe he has what it takes to tame her....

Katie Lane...is a trip. I mean, seriously, how many times can you say you've gone on a high speed chase with Elvis that ended with the heroine pepper spraying the hero--who, you know happens to be the Sheriff--going on the lamb and finding safe haven in a henhouse? *slow blink* Yup, A Match Made in Texas was just...gloriously awesome and exactly what I love about Katie Lane. It was a fun read that kept me laughing and sighing and totally had me falling for Bri and Dusty as their worlds collide in the quirky town of Bramble.
Okay so the quick of it is that Bri has had a bit of a personal disaster when some nekkid photos of her made it out in the open and she's come home to regroup and hide out until things blow over only to have a run in with the local Sheriff that gets them both all riled up as personalities clash and sparks flare something fierce!

I had an absolute blast with Bri and Dusty. These two come at life so differently--Bri's a bit of a dare devil and free spirit and Dusty is a quiet man that just wants to go about protecting his town, keeping the peace and trying to pull his private life back together. Which leads to some crazy entertaining moments between them. Their chemistry was fantastic--even when they were fighting--and whewboy *fans self* when things heat up they really heat up and it's delicious!
Note: The waitress in this one is being a bit catty and makes some remarks about how Bri must be Dusty's baby sister since they're together at dinner...

"I'll take the meat loaf, Sue. And my baby sister here will have a cheeseburger with everything on it and a strawberry shake with extra whip cream.":

Bri rested her chin in her hand and batter her eyelashes at him. "Aww, thanks, Big Bro. I just love extra whipped cream. Especially the kind that comes straight out of a can so you can squirt it just about anywhere you want to."

The waitress gave them both a weird look before she walked away.

Dusty sent Bri a warning. "For a woman who's so hungry, you are really pushing it. If you don't behave, I'll send you to bed without supper."

"Whose bed?"

He shook his head before he took off his hat and set it on the counter.

I so fell for each of them from pretty much go. Dusty. Lordy. The man's growly and a bit grouchy and just so damn sexy you want to lick him. He's really just all heart but worn thin and at his limits because of something in his personal life that had me absolutely aching for the man. I loved pretty much everything about him other than the moments he made me want to pinch the ever living snot out of him. ::snort::

And Bri was a delightful and hilarious heroine. Some of the things she did had me just rolling. But she also has a more serious side that got to me too. She's led a sheltered life and certain things have always been expected of her and I loved that she was more than that. More than the spoiled rich girl that others paint her as. She's tough, goes all in when she's doing something and just has a good heart. I loved watching her gain confidence as the book went along and seeing her stand up to those that wanted to paint her into a pretty little box.

On top of the romance being pretty damn steamy and wonderful one of my favorite things was getting to spend time with the town and the hens again as they continue to be... endearingly crazy.--this time falling to a con artist preacher that gets them all stirred up and acting a mite nuttier than usual. They're just a hoot in all their special-ness and such characters.

All in all, I enjoyed myself immensely. A Match Made in Texas was just a fun quirky read that had me smiling, laughing and completely enjoying myself as I got lost in the wonderful world Lane brought to life.

Spoiler Ahead This was book six in the "Deep in the heart of Texas" series. Brianne Cates comes from a wealthy family and she leaves home because she is tired of her four over- protective brothers so she hits the road. When she gets in trouble for some pictures of her wind up on the internet the order her home. Her brothers have banished her to Mrs. Hattie’s Hen House to hide out from all the fall media out. She has had quite the eventful trip to the Hen House including running a sheriff off the road, an Elvis look alike baiting her, and running from the sheriff. Last thing she thought would happen on this trip to stay out of trouble would be her spending a night in jail then sentenced to do community service serving as the sexy sheriff’s housekeeper. I didn't like this book as much as I liked the other books in this series although I did give it 4 stars. The towns people were just as annoying as they were in the last book. I really liked the chemistry between Brianne and Dusty Hicks is the law in his part of Texas. Dusty is a divorcee, with a daughter and some serious grudge against the rich because of his ex wife. This book was well written or read as I listened to it on audio I liked the narrator. I am looking forward to reading or listening to the next book in this series.

The southern humor that Ms Lane instills in her books is nothing short of comedic genius. All the crazy cast of town characters are back in this latest that features the baby of the Cates family, Brianne Cates.

Being raised with 4 older brother’s Brianne wanted nothing more than to do all the crazy things her brother’s did growing up. But her father wasn’t haven’t any of that so her adventurous side had to be put away in favor of acting like a lady. Well when she got older she made sure to do the craziest things to get her adrenaline fixes but when her latest end up splatter on the web for the world to see her brothers banish her to Bramble to lay low at Miss Hattie's Henhouse until they can do damage control. Well Brianne does come quietly into town.. After a run in with man looking like Elvis in a Cadillac she ends in car chase from the sheriff which ends up with her pepper spaying him to get out of being arrested.

Dusty Hicks is the sheriff in Bramble, Texas and he is a grouchy by the book, needing a big dose of a sense of humor, sexy man. He and Brianne of course butt heads on more than one occasion. But you could tell she was yang to his yin and there was plenty of chemistry between them.

I love nothing more than to laugh out loud throughout a book and this one certainly fit that bill.

4 1/5 Stars!

Hello Dusty!

Oh my goodness, I almost could not believe I have missed out on Katie Lane for so long. Looking for something a bit more lighthearted to read, I stumbled upon A Match Made in Texas on Netgalley and was really eager to read it.

Once I started it, I had a hard time putting it down.

A Match Made in Texas has everything I wanted. A small town romance set in Texas, humor, and a whole cast of characters that I couldn't help but fall in love with.

Brianne Cates grew up with four very over-protective brothers. With the need to break free, she ends up making a lot of questionable choices that kind of get her in trouble. The kind of trouble that on her first trip back home has her in hand cuffs and taken into jail by a very gorgeous sheriff.

After being run off the road then sent on a wild goose chase after a woman that was suddenly making his days worse, the last thing Dusty expected was for her to be the beautiful but spoiled Brianne Cates. Nor the fact that he would find her oh so very attractive, despite escaping his arrest once before.

Brianne Cates isn't the only thing causing trouble in Bramble, Texas. A new reverend had showed up in town and suddenly all the local town folks have very different ideas and dreams.

Cute story, a lot of fun and I had quiet a bit of laugh. Especially when Brianne and Dusty first meet and she kept trying to escape him. It had me laughing for pages, I had a very very difficult time putting it down. Delightful and charming, Katie Lane really knows how to tell a good small town romance with a sprinkle of some very cowboys and she had created a wonderful recipe for an amazing book.

Brianne was wonderful and I really liked her. I felt bad for her at times. It wasn't easy living with four very controlling brothers that over-reacted all the time. With the exception of her brother Beckett, who I really enjoyed in this story and looking forward to his book.

Dusty was swoon worthy as well. I felt bad for him and everything Brianne did to him in order to try and escape, but at the same time I couldn't help but giggle at his unfortunate luck. He was a wonderful character and an even better father. My heart broke for him in the story but I won't go too much into detail why.

The romance and the attraction between Dusty and Brianne was apparent from the first run in. I absolutely loved all the tension and chemistry between the two. They complimented each other well, both learning to improve on some things from one another.

The storyline surrounding the town was exciting and I really liked the characters of Bramble and glad they appeared throughout the book. The women that Brianne was staying with especially were quiet the characters.

I would have given this book a five, but I could have done without the chapters that were sole focused on the reverend, but that's because I really had a hard time liking the man and couldn't wait to get past them. Overall, I found another favorite author to add to the watch list and cannot wait to see what Katie Lane has in store for us next!

I got a copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

My Review:
This is one of the few series that I have read from the very first book. As a result, I jump when a new book is released. This one was no different, but this book didn't quite do it for me.

I loved most of the moments between Brianne and Dusty. And I loved the back story for Brianne with all her brothers. But there's a side story with a corrupt television evangelist which did NOT work for me. Him and his interactions with the townsfolk were downright ridiculous. In fact, there were a couple of scenes that were so bad, I literally set the book down and had to walk away. I hate that because overall I normally enjoy this series. I think it's time to step away from the henhouse story line for the series...it seems to pull the entire story line down. There's a fine line between quirky and ridiculous and for me, this book just went a little too far over that line.

But back to what did work for me...
*I loved Brianne and Dusty. I like that she's feisty and rebellious and just trying to find her place without her family overwhelming her. I also really loved her need for danger and adrenaline.
*I liked the part of the story with Dusty and his daughter and ADORED the resolution for that story line. For so much of the book, that was not where I thought it was going to go, so hooray for Katie Lane for writing it that perfectly.
*I enjoyed the part of the story with Brianne and her photo on the internet. I honestly wish that the focus had been on that aspect of it and that the author had ramped up the stalker aspect rather than including the corrupt preacher. I think it would have made for a much more believable story line.
*I enjoyed that Brianne filled in at Twyla's beauty shop in her absence.
*Finally, LOVED the incredibly hot chemistry between Brianne and Dusty.
*Beckett as a Marine....oh yeah. So unexpected, but I foresee his book as being really hot and cannot wait!!

So, overall, this was about a 3.25 read for me. It had moments that I loved and I still plan to read the series, because...Hello, Beckett as a Marine. Hell, yeah. It just wasn't my favorite.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

What a fun read this was! Dusty I just loved that boy to bits, "the smile faded as he turned to her. "And what exactly would I be apologizing for? Your reckless driving? Your blatant disregard for the law? Or how about almost getting both of us killed?" I mean Dusty and Bri sure have some interesting times together, "he told himself to put her down and step away, but his hands wouldn't cooperate. He held her trim waist in a death grip; her feet dangling and her curvy butt flush against his zipper. And keeping your willpower with a fully dressed woman you weren't touching was much easier thank keeping it with a half-naked woman you were." I mean the Judge was something else as well, "because of Elvis," Judge Seeley said. "haven't you been listein' to a word this young woman has said?" I mean the predicaments Bri and Dusty get themselves in are pretty hilarious, mostly it's Bri's doing though:
She hid the cuffs behind her back. "Umm...I was just straightening up."
His head dipped as he gave her the once-over. "In nothing but a towel?"
I mean these two just ooze sexual chemistry, "a crooked smile teased one corner of his mouth. "Such pretty manners, but I wasn't talking about a condom." He stood and flipped open the top button of his jeans. "I was talking about the handcuffs." And Bri loves to throw it in his face that he's attracted to her, "Bri smiled. "Funny, but I don't think I was the one who picked you up and had my way with you against a mirror." And well he doesn't mind one bit if he gets the happy ending, "he lifted his head. "You just like a lot of wicked things, don't you, Miz Cates?" She laughed her deep, throaty laugh that always made him hard. Of course, lying naked between her legs didn't hurt."

I love this series! Katie Lane manages to pull off stories that are equally sweet, funny, and sexy with just the right amount of angst. When I heard this book was coming out, I read the entire series again just to refresh myself and it was just as enjoyable.

That being said, this was my least favorite of the series. Brianne's character felt off kilter to me throughout the book - I couldn't really see her as the innocent woman she (and apparently her family) claimed she was when her behavior was completely opposite of that image. Dusty was certainly likable but the turnaround on his feelings toward Bri felt abrupt and I'm not sure she deserved forgiveness pretty much overnight. By the end of the story, it felt like most things were rushed and I would have liked a little more exploration into Dusty and Bri's relationship (and a whole lot less of the Reverend story line) before everything was wrapped up so quickly.

I'm still really looking forward to the next book in the series, though. Starlet and Beckett looks to be a fun ride.

I tell you I cannot get enough of these books. The lovely people of Bramble Texas are seriously like a bad episode of the Jerry Springer Show and you cannot help but stay glued and absorb every single page....

This is Dusty and Bri's story. Dusty is the sheriff of the neighboring town and Bri is sister to the Cates brothers, whom he have all met in previous books.

Bri heads off to spend some time at Miss Hatties in order to escape a stalker ex who posted not to flattering pictures of her topless on the internet. On the way there, she meets Dusty in lets just say a slight altercation that may or may not end up with her wearing handcuffs.

This was a hilarious read and of course the fine people of Bramble, keep us entertained in a way that only they can.

I loved every minute of this book, and as usual cannot wait to see where we are headed next....

It's been a few books in this series (at least for me) since Katie Lane hit all the right notes. IMHO, she did so with this story. The main characters Brianne and Dusty were both great. They've both got some emotional baggage to work through as well as some outside forces to overcome before they can find their H.E.A. and watching them struggle to get there was a fun adventure. Brianne Cates is the baby sister of the over protective four Cates brothers and her parents. Growing up in what for her and her adventurous nature a stifling environment she's developed a wild side for the adrenaline rush that comes with things like cliff jumping and sky diving, that she doesn't dare show her family. And while not really promiscuous, she's hardly the inexperienced virgin she's allowed her family to continue to believe she is. Dusty Hicks sheriff of Culver County which borders the town of Bramble and has Hattie's Henhouse within it's borders is a serious lawman. A serious lawman with serious personal issues. Recently divorced he's in a heated custody battle for his 3 year old daughter Emma with his wealthy ex-wife which he's on the losing end of. Dusty has come to hate wealthy, spoiled women who use their money and family connections to get what they want. When Dusty pulls Brianne and her smart car over for speeding and reckless driving and Brianne takes one look at the hot sheriff and the handcuffs he's carrying on his utility belt the sparks fly.
There's plenty of additional action in this one with a stalking ex, a scheming disgraced T.V. evangelist and an escaped Mexican drug cartel leader bent on revenge. Minnie and her hens and the good citizens of Bramble add plenty of laughs to the story. The five previous couples in the series all make cameo appearances as we are updated on what is happening in each of their lives. My only complaint with this book is somehow the ending, the H.E.A. just felt a bit rushed to me. But maybe that's because I didn't want to see Brianne's and Dusty's story end?

So cutesy. Maybe a little too cutesy. It's definitely veering towards the fairytale side of contemporary romance - none of these are real people, nor do they act or react the way real people would - but it was a fun read. As romances go, there really wasn't a huge amount of romantic conflict - the hero and heroine hook up pretty early and then keep hooking up without a lot of drama about it. However, towards the end, there was an incident that was a huge problem for me: There's a grovel afterwards, but it's really not enough of one.

This small town, opposites attract, overly protected little sister, and never falling for a woman again sheriff had all the right ingredients and delivered it wonderfully! Throw in an old bad guy, a new bad guy, who, was simply insane to think he could take on this town, and Bramble did what it did best, made you laugh out loud and root while you did. Dusty and Bri met, sparks flew, but so did some law breaking. But the more they got to spend time together, and act on that attraction, the more they fell, and they fell deep. It all fell apart, and getting it back together was Dusty doing what he did best, giving his woman what she wanted, while properly grovelling <3

Hot romance in a great series. Brianne Cates is rich and has grown up with 4 overprotective brothers. So she decides to cut loose and have some fun. Sadly a guy she thought was just a friend, is stalking her and posts a half naked pic of her online (when she was cliff diving). Well her brothers send her to the "hen house" (see book 4 Trouble in Texas) to hide out till the situation winds down.
However she gets in trouble instantly by driving a sheriff off the road, resisting arrest and pepper spraying him. This begins their love/hate romance which includes the old ladies of the hen house, the crazy town folk, a crooked preacher that looks like Elvis and lots of hijinks!

This is definitely not your average Rom/Com/Love story!

Yes, Brianna and Dustin DO fall in love, but it is all the situations the story relates that make it so enjoyable to read. There is humor, there is sex, there is drama, and, a very small bit of violence. You will recognize many of the characters in this book from the preacher/con man, to the older woman with the gun who shoots him. All-in-all a VERY ENJOYABLE book!

I really really wanted to like this book but there was no character development. I know it’s romcom and not to take it so seriously but usually the spoiled little rich kid woman at the beginning develops and her true pure heart shines through. But no, it had potential but she was a brat at the beginning and a brat at the end. Cannot have any empathy for this character.

This was a fun installation in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series about the only daughter in the Cates family with four big, older brothers who love to protect and smother their sister Brianne. Can they protect her heart from the Sheriff or do they want to? Great read

A Match Made in Texas is another humorous installment in Katie Lane's zany and romantic Deep in the Heart of Texas series. In this latest outing, Brianne Cates' brothers exile her to Bramble to keep a brewing scandal at bay. But little do they realize their sweet, demure sister is, in actuality, a thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie who thrives on adventure. So when an irritating driver gets on Brianne's last nerve, she winds up in an exciting high speed(ish) chase with local sheriff Dusty Hicks. One impetuous and ill thought out decision later and Brianne is unceremoniously hauled off to jail by the irate sheriff. But things really heat up between this ill-matched but passionate couple when Brianne's community service puts them in very close proximity.

Family expectations clash with Brianne's adventurous nature and she has been living a secret life in order to keep the peace. When her slimy ex posts pictures of her on the web, Brianne's brothers are in damage control mode and she goes along with their plan in an effort to keep the rest of her activities under wraps. Brianne is also hoping getting out from under her family's watchful eyes will give her the space she needs to figure out what she wants to do with her life. What she wants is not necessarily what is expected of her and her time in Bramble provides her with the opportunity to stretch her wings. Will Brianne follow her heart or will she continue to be let her family's opinions guide her decisions?

Dusty's marriage to a wealthy socialite ended in a nasty divorce and bitter custody battle, so he has zero patience for Brianne's antics. But Brianne is full of unexpected surprises and he soon realizes that he has misjudged her. Dusty is taken off guard by his attraction to her and after they impulsively give in to their passion, they are inseparable. But once Dusty realizes that Brianne has been keeping something from him, will he give up on their budding romance?

Dusty and Brianne are passionate, vibrant characters with strong personalities and they both bring some emotional baggage into their relationship. Brianne has a little growing up to do and she also becomes conscious of the fact that some of Dusty's preconceived ideas about her have some truth to them. Dusty might be divorced but he still has to contend with his ex as he fights for more time with his young daughter. Dusty and Brianne's relationship is tenuous and it is surprisingly easy for them both to walk away at the first sign of trouble.

As with the other books in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series, Miss Hattie's Henhouse and its eclectic residents play small, but crucial roles in the unfolding story. While most of Dusty and Brianne's relationship takes place in Bramble, Minnie's matchmaking helps bring them together initially. There are also a few brief guest appearances by brothers Brant, Beau and Billy, but the glimpses of youngest brother Beckett are the most intriguing.

A Match Made in Texas is a wildly sexy romance with a beautiful love story but it is also a tremendous journey of self-discovery for both Dusty and Brianne. The love scenes between Dusty and Brianne are deliciously naughty, their dialogue is delightfully witty and there are also a few poignant moments between them as well. The cast of characters is a bit quirky but lovable. The storyline is fast-paced and appealing with a secondary story arc that stirs up a bit of trouble for the residents of Bramble. A fun-filled and heartwarming stop in Katie Lane's Deep in the Heart of Texas series that old and new fans definitely do not want to miss.

A Match Made in Texas is book six in Katie Lane's Deep in the Heart of Texas Series. I Admit I have only read one other book in this series and I loved it! But I will tell you this. This is a FUN Series. Sure there are issues to be dealt with but in general it's a light hearted, tongue in cheek look at small town Texas. Somehow mayhem always ensues..

Brianne Cates has lived her life in the shadow of her overprotective brothers. Even though she was raised in an insane household with plenty of brothers, Brianne has been left behind whenever the fun began. As an adult she has been making up for it. Managing to skip all of her brothers' weddings, she let them think she was ill, had to work, couldn't get a flight, but in reality she was finally feeding her adrenaline need. Only this time that need has created a stalkerish wannabe boyfriend who posted pictures of her topless on the internet. No matter that she wasn't actually cavorting naked (her top fell off when she cliff jumped and said wannabe took the picture). Now she has been banished to Bramble, where it's assumed she can't get into any trouble.

Sherriff Dusty Hicks has had it with spoiled little rich girls. His ex wife, using daddy's money, managed to get full custody of his daughter and she is all he is living for. While loving his job he has become more and more unbearable while unable to see his only child. So when Brianne speeds through, refusing to pull over, resisting arrest and then finally MACES him.. and then threatens him with her daddy's money he is FINISHED.. She is in so much trouble. Only the judge has other plans.. Brianne gets to act as Dusty's housekeeper for the next couple weeks. That's her community service. To say neither is happy is putting it mildly.

There is obviously enough tension going around but there is a lot of fun as well. Add in the "Hens" over at the new Bed and Breakfast (formally the whorehouse in Trouble in Texas), a disgraced televangelist who looks like Elvis, Four bossy older brothers who know everything and one stalkerish wannabe boyfriend who won't let things go and to say things go crazy is putting it mildly.
Somehow Dusty and Brianne manage to team up to solve fiasco after fiasco and realize that they have something special. That each of them made a snap judgment based on a poor first impression. These two have to learn how to live their lives for themselves. Not to expect others to fall into their plans but to also respect the choices others have made.

Brianne knows that they only truly important person in Dusty's life is his daughter and she does everything in her power to make his home a better place for them. But when Dusty discovers those pictures will he be able to forgive and forget? Will he listen to what really happened? Or will he assume the worst and leave Brianne's life?

And Brianne has to learn how to be her own person. Hiding from her family instead of attending family functions hurts everyone. If she wants a life she has to make her stand. Be herself and tell her brothers to get out of her life (nicely she does love them after all).

This was a fun book.. worth the read.. with excellent characters and even better secondary characters. Be sure and check it out

Ah, Texas, my home sweet home, I love a book with a Texas backdrop. And honestly this book sounded like something I would find highly amusing, Brianne getting in trouble with the local cop Dusty. Without a doubt the first interaction between Brianne and Dusty was hilarious, and just what I was looking for. Brianne’s reaction to getting pulled over was just short of insane, and hilarious to read, and after she made he escape, it was just as funny reading about the fall out she left behind for Dusty.

So Brianne is staying at the Henhouse, which from what I can tell is a place for retired “women of the night” that has been turned into a bed and breakfast owned by Brianne’s brothers (I haven’t read any of the novels before this, so I am a little behind on backstory). Brianne is hiding out because of some compromising pictures that were taken of her, as well as hiding from a guy who is turning out to be a bit of a stalker. As a character, Brianne is a little crazy, she doesn’t always think things through, she relies a lot of her family name, but at the end of the day she does have a really good heart, so I can easily say I like her (and she add some much needed comic relief at times).

Dusty on the other hand didn’t do it for me at all. Yes, he was screwed over by his ex, and he carries a lot of baggage, but he’s like so irrational about women that it really is just over the top too much. He assumes everything Brianne says or does is like some kind of evil plan for her to seduce him and for her to get exactly what she wants from him. And this happens a lot over the course of the book. He makes so many assumptions about everything that I just wanted to reach out and shake him. And I also found it highly infuriating how easily Brianne was always willing to overlook that about him. SO maybe I wanted to shake them both.

There were a lot of other things going on in the book, there was a story line at the Henhouse that seems to be a continuation of some of the prior books (I didn’t need to have read the other books to understand) which lead to some interesting events. And there was also a con-man preacher that shows up in the small town and somehow manages to get all the residents to lose their minds and do things that were just not in their character (but hey that’s a con man for you). So there were some definite subplots going on in this book that took your attention, and helped the story along for sure.

I would say this is a pretty good book. I didn’t really like Dusty, but I could easily see how some other people might. I also think the humor in this book is highly amusing, and found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion. So if you like small town romances this might be a book you want to pick up and check out.

Pure country goodness is what you will find in this book! I will be the first to admit some of the other books in this series have been a little ADHD’ish – all over the place but with plenty of fun! This book is nothing short of that; although, I did find it much easier to follow than some of the others. Also there is a clear merger of the main and secondary story lines which just made everything make sense.

If you love “The King” then you will get a hoot out of the character description of Reverend Josiah Jessup – who is anything but reverently. The opening pages of this book will grab your attention and the characters will grab your heart. In the character of Brianne Cates you will find little parts of yourself in her insecurities, wildness, love of life – she is fun, smart, wild and has a heart as big as the state of Texas. Her character is very “Miranda Lambertish”. I think Lane’s parallel between a ML song and Brianne is on the money and certainly puts a character type in your mind. And then there is Sheriff Dusty. When he is first introduced you will think he is a big old sexy butthole, but as the story unfolds so does his character and you will grow love him. I also particularly liked the secondary character of Cora Lee – she reminded me of Aunt Bea from the Andy Griffith Show. Being a North Carolina girl I think this story has a lot of Andy Griffith qualities – you will almost hear that famous whistling during certain parts of the book.

The story of Bri and Dusty is fascinating and the magnetism between the two is very well described. The relationship is also just fun. The window jail scene is perfect and is one of my favorites in the book! I must admit I skimmed the parts with Josiah just to get back to Bri and Dusty – I was obsessed with their story. You will also get some suspense in this little package. There is also good foreshadowing to the next book in the series – which I cannot wait to read!

If you love contemporary westerns then this is worth your time. It has all the classic elements – small town, diner and beauty salon scenes, beautiful wild child, sexy man in uniform, suspense. and some not so classic elements – secret passages ways, whore houses, pistol totin’ grannies, girl-on-girl porn, drug Lords – yep, it is a good ol’ time – you won’t be able to put it down.

Title: A Match Made in Texas

Series: Deep in the Heart of Texas bk 6

Author: Katie Lane

Our heroine plays an unintended game of chicken on the highway with our hero, runs him off the road, maces him (OMG! She pepper sprayed him!!!!! I was LMAO at the end of the first chapter! What in the world??!!), escapes, he finally catches her and throws her in jail and she tries to escape through the jail window… not the most promising start to a long-lasting relationship. Good thing they have an attraction to each other that will not be denied!

Katie Lane delivers again on everything that we have come to expect from our home away from home, Bramble, TX!! And makes us realize how great it is returning to the town we have missed so much! Once again we saw appearances from the Hens and their funny antics and mayhem continues, we got to see those yummy Cates brothers and the women that have tamed them and the craziness that comes from the Bramble citizens themselves is always entertaining! That craziness was ramped up in this story due to Reverend Josiah Jessup a down-on-his-luck, disgraced televangelist/con-artist that wrecks havoc on the crazy yet loving and well-meaning people of Bramble.

As an added bonus there's a preview at the end for book 7 for The Last Cowboy in Texas! It looks like Starlet Brubaker gets her story! I cannot wait to read it!!

This is my first read by Ms. Lane and I know that I’m going to have to go back and read the other books so I can get to know some of the other characters. This book still can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed this read it made me laugh in a couple of scenes and a couple of characters. The story started off so funny I could already imagine speeding on the highway and trying to pass a psycho Elvis impersonator. Then when she tried to lie to the Sheriff then pepper sprayed him oh my was Brianne going to be in world of hurt.

Brianne Cates is the little sister to the Cates brother’s and oh my were they protective of her. Now here she is in a small little town where she should be staying on the down low if only that Elvis impersonator didn’t show up where she was staying.

Sheriff Dusty Hicks couldn’t believe it that a small little thing could have done what she did to him. Now he wanted to find her and put her behind bars for breaking the law. But then they got a phone call that someone had shoot and killed Elvis and that is where he found her holding a gun.

When Brianne was offered community service but she never would have thought that would mean being the Sheriff’s housekeeper. Now she has to clean his home for the next two weeks but she actually felt good about herself. But the Sheriff had his hands busy because it seemed that the people in Bramble, Texas were acting weird and it was the fault of the Reverend aka Elvis. They were quitting their jobs thinking that they could do something else, which is great but why leave something you love just because someone else says something different. Now that Brianne and Dusty spend more time together their chemistry was building. I know that he believed that she was just a little rich girl that believed she could throw her name out and get her out of trouble. But a person shouldn’t assume anything unless they knew for sure that it is true.

A Match Made in Texas was a good romance read. I loved Brianne and her humor. There was so much going on in this story and I know that I am going to have to go back and read the other book in this series. I want to know her brothers! The chemistry between these two characters was evident from the very first time that they met each other even though he was handcuffing her. I know I will be reading more of Ms. Lane’s books.

Posted on What I'm Reading

A couple of days ago I finished A Match Made in Texas by Katie Lane. All right, this would be my second Katie Lane book and I have to say that I'm pleased with the story. Honestly, A Match Made in Texas was a hoot to read and I want to go back and read the previous books.

Anyway, we meet up with Brianne Cates who is heading to Bramble, Texas, because unflattering images that could cause some damage if they got into the wrong hands. However, Brianne hits a couple of snags on the way to her destination. One being a dude looking like Elvis who's trying to test Brianne's patience. Well, her patiences didn't win the battle, and she ended up in trouble of the law. Now Dusty Hicks is just trying to do his job when he comes across Brianne. However, Brianne alludes him and becomes a pain his butt. It pretty much escalates from there.

A Match Made in Texas happen to be a little fun read with a cast of characters that were crazy, plain and simple. You have the crazy ladies at the Henhouse. Seriously, when an old lady in a wheel chair starts firing a gun you better duck and cover. Then you have Reverend Josiah Jessup causing a stir trying to weasel his way back to the top. Of course, you have the interaction between Brianne and Dusty. Dusty is divorcee who is trying to work on getting joint custody of his daughter and Brianne is the last person he needs in his life. Dusty sees Brianne like his ex-wife, a socialite who's willing to through her name around to get her way. However, Brianne isn't like. Actually, she would like to be seen as her own person, but that's kind of hard when you have three overbearing older brothers.

A Match Made in Texas gave me a good chuckle with the ladies of the Henhouse clucking away. You have the antics of the good Reverend cause havoc on the good people of Bramble. Of course you have the attraction between Brianne and Dusty. Both are trying to fight there feelings. Overall, an entertaining story. It can be read as a standalone. Since I haven't read the previous books in the series I was able to do just find with the storyline. So, you are looking for a fun read that has some crazy antics, you might give A Match Made in Texas a go.

Brianne Cates has grown up with four over protective brother and parents that think she is a princess, but she is just as adventurous as her rowdy brothers. Only times she has been able to spread her wings and live on the wild side were by skipping out on going to the weddings of those said brothers. Those fun times have come back to bite her on the butt, because a guy she thought was just a friend has posted a risqué picture of her on the internet. And now her brothers have banished her to Mrs Hattie’s Hen House to hide out from all the fall media out.

Dusty Hicks is the law in his part of Texas, and he has had it up to his Stetson with rich spoiled princess. His ex-wife gave him enough trouble to last him a lifetime, and all he wants to do now is worry about his town and his young daughter. When Brianne’s reckless ness nearly gets them both killed he finds that his quite a bit intrigued by this princess. Can he take a chance on letting her into his world? Or will he let his stubbornness get in the way of what could be between them??

Holy moly!! When you get one of these books by Katie Lane you know you are going to laugh your butt off, and they are going to be hot hot hot. I freaking love the banter between these two!! They also have a sizzling chemistry that causes you e-reader to smoke. I absolutely adore the Hens of Mrs Hatties, and love that they keep causing trouble in this series!! I can’t wait to see what comes next in Bramble, Texas!! :)

A love story that does not start out that way. Brianne Cates is having to leave here home and hide out in a small town in west Texas. Her four older brothers are tired of her always showing up on the inter net or in the papers embarrassing them and the family. So they ship her off. On her way there she ends up in a game of cat and mouse with a man in a red Cadillac who looks like an older version of Elvis. He will not let here pass him and on her last attempt she has to go all the way over to the other side of the road and use that shoulder. When she gets back on the road she runs off the sheriff vehicle that she say at the last minute. He somehow stays up right and starts a chase she finally gives up but the red Cadillac is nowhere to be seen. She thinks it’s going to be an older man and she can sweet talk her way out of her problem, but it is Dusty Hicks, and he takes he breath away, never before has she felt like this. He is having the same feelings but being divorced has left him soured and the fact he cannot see their daughter all the time. Being his ex-came from money her father hired the best attorneys and he got well a bad attitude. This just makes the story better because she ends up getting away from their first encounter. Though she was in handcuffs, she was still able to get to her pepper spray well you can imagine the rest. Once she is found again and brought in front of the judge he decides to give her community service besides paying for the damages to the car. He community service turns out to be his house keeper, for no one wants to work for because of his surly personality. They of course start to work out their differences and there are some other story lines that are going on threw out the town that make this a very funny story at times. There are some serious moments as well but they don’t take away from the story. Overall I found this book to be a good story. I got this book from net galley.

Brianne knows how to make an entrance and get noticed. Driving recklessly to pass a man dress as Elvis who played with her nerves will get her in trouble with the sexy sherrif. But it's running away after he arrested her that will only make things worst (but better for us readers ;p). She will still end up in jail for a night and will have to do community services. But since it's Bramble, Texas, things will be a little different. Brianne is not the only new person in town. A "Reverend" will try to wreak havoc with the folkspeople.

I still have the last book to read, but this one was definitively one of the best of the series. The beginning was exciting, the ending was just as thrilling and all that's in between was entertaining as well. It's still over the top at times but now that I know to expect it, it's not a problem and makes it more fun. I needed something bubbly and that was the ideal book for me.

I liked both Brianne and Dusty. They were not perfect characters. She's reckless (even if everyone think she's the opposite) and he's got a temper (but it's all bark and no bite). But he's smart and have a great sense of humor and she was so generous with her time and her little bits of attention. It was very sweet to see them show how much they care for each others. I was afraid the things with his ex would bring trouble and drama but I really liked how it was handled. Dusty's little girl was so adorable and helped showed the best side of her daddy and Brianne's too. I thought the Cates would play more the part of overprotective brothers but I can't say I was disappointed they didn't. It just showed they respect their sister and think her smart enough to handle her own business. We still saw the hens but this time they didn't take all the space and I can't wait to see if something happened at the party between Starlet and Beckett.
