IMO, this author has a lot of potential and heart, but this book just didn't do it for me. And as a persnickety lover of Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance, I hate having to say that, but this book lacked the essential spark of captivation. What I found instead was lag, alot of ansgt, and frustration, which inspired me to skip several pages, all the way to the cliffhanger section of the book.

I loved this story. The storyline was interesting and kept my attention from beginning to end. The end is a bit of a cliffhanger but thankfully book two is already out and you won't have to wait to find out what happens next.

We meet Alexa, a young woman in horrible pain daily from life altering disease. Alexa finds herself completely alone after her Nana disappears just the same as her parents did a year prior. She pushed her friends away when she found out about her disease including her best friend Jazz. One phone call from Jazz with an invitation to her birthday party changes Alexa’s life forever. Ending up in Jazz’s house filled with people who only mock her and talk badly about her, Alexa decides to leave, unti

Well written book. Pleasantly surprised at the quality. I just don't like the concept of vampires.

I have to say that when I started reading, I didn't know what to expect. Too often I am given books, find books or I am referred books by friends and not all of them I enjoy. I like them for the hard work and effort poured into them and the creativity, but they always wind up being something that doesn't really appeal to me. That isn't the case with this book!

This is the beginning of a series/trilogy, so the majority of this book was building the plot, getting the background, and getting it all set up to be what I know will be amazing. The characters were all very realistic and believable.
The main character, Alexa, is a 20 year old living alone after her parents disappeared the year before, without a trace. The only family she has left is a grandmother who practices magic who her mother forbade her to see and spend time with, even with the promise t ...more

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was an interesting and intriguing story that grabbed my attention from the very beginning and never let it go.
Straight from the off point with this story you want to know what is happening, why Alexa was the way she was and what was happening to her.

I have never been a fan of any vampire book that strays away from myth. That mans they should need to drink blood, shouldn’t walk in the daylight and should not sparkle. I have put down books that have not kept to myth but this time I just couldn’t.

This was a great book. I love the supernatural most of the time and this was one of those times.
This book kept me wanting more. I enjoyed it all.
If you are not sure about the supernatural world yet check out this amazing book you will not be able to put it down.

Way to start a series. Alexa and Lacal come to life in such detail. Lacal is the intense protective soul-mate and Alexa could be the next Vampire Queen. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one. The cliffhanger in this book is almost too much to handle.

WOW! This was an amazing paranormal book! Jessica Cage has created a whole new world of fantastic characters that keep you glued to the story and dying to find out what happens next! The feelings written in the pages are intense, right along with the characters and you can feel the emotion. Such wonderful descriptive writing that allows you to picture this world in graphic detail and enjoy the story from beginning to end. Although the ending is a cliffhanger, book 2 is already out, so you can mo

My Review:
Lets start with this book was SUPER interesting. It was a really great book overall. Some parts were super emotional and really, the story itself had you on edge about what the outcome would be. I agree with others about the book in the fact that even if you can't relate, you relate to the main character. Alexa. So alone and such sadness, but yet still so wanting to live.
I thought from the start the book was going to be one of those heart wrecking books, ...more

I really liked this book! It captured my attention from the very first page. This is definitely a new spin on vampires, and I really like it! First you meet Alexa, she has had a horrific last couple of years, and then her grandma disappears. Before her grandma leaves, she had left something for Alexa that will help her heal and become the person she used to be. Once Alexa takes the concoction though, her whole life changes. Then enters in ...more

After the disappearance of her parents, Alexa locks herself in her home for two years withering away from a disease that wreaks havoc on her body. She separates herself from her friends and the only family that she has left. Her best friend Jazz is determined to have her friend back and manages to convince Alexa to come to her birthday party. At the party, Alexa meets Lacal and they are instantly drawn to each other. Of course Lacal is more than what he seems and we find out Alexa isn’t your ord

This book struck me right off the bat with this one beautifully poignant sentence, "I cringed as the memory of their smiling faces fixated in front of my eyes for a second before they transformed into two cold boxes."

Alexa has been through more pain and suffering in her short life than most of us will ever experience. Cut off from the world because of her illness and scared to move forward out of fear of her mother’s disapproval have weighed her down. Out of nowhere she receives a call from her best friend and she grudgingly decides to make her reappearance in the world. Little does she know that this first step will drastically change her life. Not only the way she lives it but the way she sees it as well.

Alone and stricken with a disease, Alexa lives a life based on routine. Memories and her surroundings are her only comfort. Fear of losing her last living relative pushes her to leave her self-created sanctuary. Now, she is faced with the decision of venturing into the unknown to have the life she was meant to have.

I am hooked on what Jessica Cage can do. She has brought a whole new outlook on the “vampire” world. It is always great to see what can come of a new world. I received a copy for an honest review.
Alexa is such a survivor and I guessed a witch at first, so the confession from Lacal of what she really was is a surprise. Her survival instincts are so much more needed in her new life. With Lacal by her side she can face it all, if she just trusts in him.
I can’t wait to read more of this series.

Born and raised in Chicago, IL, writing has always been a passion for Jessica Cage. She dabbles in artistic creations of all sorts but at the end of the day, it's the pen that her hand itches to hold. Jessica had never considered following her dream to be a writer because she was told far too often "There is no money in writing." So she chose the path most often traveled. During pregnancy she aske
