Ditinggalkan calon tunangannya, Jane Merriweather mendapat malu berat dan depresi. Karena kondisi keuangan keluarganya yang sedang sekarat, Jane harus segera menikah dengan seorang pria yang mampu menyokong kondisi keuangan keluarganya. Jane pun merayu teman sejak kecilnya, Lucas Cavanough. Lucas yang saat itu tidak ingin menikah, memilih kabur dan meninggalkan Jane. Tapi delapan bulan kemudian mereka bertemu lagi di Surrey, kampung halaman mereka. Dan Lucas pun menyadari bahwa dia menyukai Jane, akan tetapi rupanya Lucas terlambat. Jane akan bertunangan dengan Lord Needles, seorang duda dan botanical.
Lord Needles pria yang baik dan tidak bodoh seperti pria kebanyakan, dan bahkan pria itu hampir seperti Lucas, pikir Jane. Dia pun memutuskan untuk menyetujui pernikahan dengan Lord Needles, akan tetapi satu ciuman dari Lucas di malam Natal membuat hati Jane menjadi bimbang. Dia harus menikah dengan Lord Needles untuk menyokong kondisi keuangan keluarganya, meskipun dalam hatinya hanya ada satu pria yang dia cintai, Lucas.

Thanks to Reginald, si donkey.. hehehehe.. menurutku Reginald menjadi penghubung Lucas dengan Jane. Ada tokoh yang aku suka di cerita ini, Lord Needles, calon tunangan Jane. Pengennya juga ada cerita tentang dia selain di cerita ini.. HisRom ini singkat, ceritanya lumayan buat mengisi waktu senggang, nggak butuh banyak waktu buat bacanya.

I’m a huge Stefanie Sloan fan and have read every book she’s written so far. My attraction to her writing lies in her uncanny talent at always writing fun and entertaining dialogues.
She did it again in this short novella as I found myself laughing and chuckling all the way through this read.
Lucas and Jane were fun to follow around, but having all those entertaining animals around in their quaint little rural part of England, will have you dreaming of sugar plums and kissing bows.
If you’re a lover of a romance with the ‘Big Misunderstanding’ then you’ll love this story for sure. It has lots of humor and heart and plenty of supporting players to make it interesting and enjoying.

Synopsis: Jane was jilted and asks her childhood friend, Lucas, to basically fill in. Lucas realizes that he has strong feelings for Jane, and runs away from those feelings all the way to Scotland. However, Christmas comes around and Lucas is obligated to be near his family, so Lucas has to deal with Jane, since her donkey keeps escaping their barn and finding its way to Lucas' estate.
Jane doesn't quite know how to react around Lucas, since he turned her down.
What I liked: the premise.
What I didn't like: the characters. Lucas was annoying and spoiled, and Jane was so subservient.

Lucas discovered he was in love with Jane but scare of the emotion he ran. Now eight months later he is back, but Jane is trying to forget him and move on to marriage with a nice man. I enjoyed it a lot!

Delightful short story:). It is a great afternoon read on a cold winter day! The characters had a lot of connection for a short book. I loved them right away and it have just enough background to not leave you too much in the dark!
