I am, characteristically, a rather unemotional person. It could be my mood of late, with being moody, but this was one of very few (possibly the only story) stories to give me the impression that my eyes are going to water. That happened towards the first story's end and as it takes a lot for a writer to do that to me, I have to give the collection five stars because, speaking as a writer myself, it is what I believe every author should strive for, regardless of the story being told. But I'm als ...more

I loved this collection of short stories. The first one "Open Your Heart to Chance" made me teary, it's very emotional and I can totally relate to Kerri.
The others were great too! If you're thinking of reading this short story collection by this fantastic writer, don't hesitate any longer and read it! Also, please help her cause by donating a dollar to The Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue Foundation, a dollar is nothing to us but it may be everything to them.

Superb writing! Devon succedded in enthralling me with powerful emotional tugs on my conscience. Tears flowed from me like water, sadness threw me down, but happiness softened my fall and lifted me back to my feet. I thoroughly enjoyed these engaging short stories!

Open you Heart to Chance is a lovely written collection about what it is to be a dog owner, and not just any dog, but the beautiful Golden Retriever.

Written by an author who is obviously devoted to her very soul to making sure her dogs have the best quality of life possible, the collection will guide you along an emotion packed path, showing just what is to love an animal, from the moment they’re born to that awful day when you put look into their eyes and know that no matter how muc

Even though this is not my usual genre and I am not a dog owner, I really enjoyed these stories. The first and second had me staring at the wall while I waited for my quivering lip to cease; the third made me giggle in places from the writer's strong voice, and left me inspired to learn a little more about breeding; the fourth was just cute and cheeky, and a great finale. If you're a dog lover then this is a must read for you, if you're not, give it a go. You just might enjoy it as much as I did ...more

It's a good job no one saw me on the bus reading this today, I am sure my eyes would have looked very teary (is that how you spell it?). This is a lovely set of short stories that any dog lover will really understand. A rollercoaster of emotions finishing with a cheeky one though to lighten things up and make you smile and chuckle again. Well it did for me anyway. My advice, get this and make sure all your other doggie friends do too.

Open your heart to chance was my favorite of the collection...a touching story that in just a few pages made me feel Kerri's pain and fall in love with Bailey and then Chance. Beautiful collection.

I was amazed at how the first of these masterfully-written stories elicits the feelings I had when my own dog passed away. Devon Winterson artfully captures the full range of emotions from grief, anger and guilt, to renewed hope. The second story left me with a greater understanding of our best friends and the caring people devoted to making their lives better. The last story lifted my spirits. All in all, the collection is a must read for anyone, dog owner or not.
