We don't stumble accidentally into an amazing life. It takes a conscious commitment to figuring out what we stand for - finding our truth. It begins by looking inside ourselves, because when it rises from within, we have no choice but to express it, to live it. That is when magic fulfillment, happiness, relationships and success. The question How? With meditations on love, healing, entrepreneurship, overcoming failure, vulnerability, fear, the nature of the mind and the rhythm of life, "Live Your Truth" is a guide to this crucial journey of self-exploration and personal discovery. The follow up to his runaway bestseller "Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It," Kamal Ravikant takes you on his journey, in the hope that it will help you find your truth and inspire you to live it. Prepare to be your best self.
I've been fortunate enough to have some amazing experiences in my life so far. I've trekked to one of the highest base camps in the Himalayas, meditated with Tibetan monks in the Dalai Lama's monastery, earned my US Army Infantry patch, walked 550 miles across Spain, lived in Paris, been the only non-black, non-woman member of the Black Women's writers' group, written a novel, held the hands of dying patients, and worked with some of the best people in Silicon Valley.
But the most transformative experience has been the simple act of loving myself.
"Live Your Truth" is a a book that touches the soul. Kamal Ravikant's first book, "Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It" brings the reader from a place of difficulty showing the endless beauty life holds. Kamal explains that when you practice loving and appreciating yourself, you open yourself up to the incredible magic of the universe.
Although reading "Love Yourself" isn't necessary before reading "Live Your Truth," "Live Your Truth" picks up where "Love Yourself" left off--with the "Now what?"
Kamal's writing style reaches deep. He discovers his truth on a silent retreat, reflecting and looking up at the stars, weaving his stories and lessons in and out like the colors of a Navajo blanket. Because of this, "Live Your Truth" doesn't preach or instruct--it gently leads. The way Kamal writes, I feel as if I've traveled alongside him on his journey, experiencing many of the lessons in real time. Living one's truth is about so many things...there's a takeaway for everyone. You may, like I did, leave this book feeling like it was written directly for you. This book is a quick and comforting read. I enjoyed it very much, and I've read it more than once.
This book was given to me at the beginning of a difficult time (by someone I did not know well).... little did I know that life was going to get even harder and still is. I have just finished this book and I too will purchase it and pass it on to others. It reminds you why you are on this earth and how to live "your own truth." It might be a book I reread each year before January 1st. It's a reminder why we are here on earth, whether our time here is short or long. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!
Not sure how to comment on this. Someone, unknown, sent this book to me in the mail. Frankly it looked like one of these "spacey" and "new age" books, and it ... it is. But I started leafing through the very short chapters: three pages the norm with some shorter and a few longer. They are clever and follow very loosely the author's week at a monastery in the California Mountains, with a view of the Pacific Ocean. He does not stay the whole week in the very spare surroundings, but apparently derives sufficient value to leave early, refreshed and ready to write his second book.
Ravikant is not a professional writer, that is clear, but his terse sentences and to-the-heart comments do work. There is a lot of good advice in here. Just "love yourself" and "live your truth." In my case, I read it aloud to my wife, who is a stroke survivor, and a former LSW with a career in social work. She enjoyed it, and so did I.
"There is no should. There only is. And when you accept that, letting the emotion rise, the feeling crest and crash, say to it, “it’s ok. I accept you.” Even say to it, “I love you.” There is power there. There is freedom."
I love this one. But to be honest I feel like there were so many things to quote from this book, just one doesn't manage to crystallise the whole essence of it. The words in this book spoke volumes to me, and as I happen to have read it at a personally difficult time, I found it relaxingly liberating. Being present, forgiving yourself and loving yourself, those are things that take time mastering and require practise. It's all worth the effort. And I like the overall optimism this book showed.
I chose this book because I had previously read "love yourself like your life depends on it" and was deeply touched . I couldn't get enough of the feeling I felt when I read that book so I purchased this one as well. I was deeply amazed by the simple message this book sends . You must honest and vulnerable with yourself to make magic happen . I will definitely remember this book for the rest of my life.
A very poetic, simple book that is perhaps best read a chapter at a time for full reflection. I appreciated the succinct and direct musings on life, perception, and the purpose we each discover in ourselves. Each reflection offers a new morsel to digest, and points to how we might see the world differently, discover our personal truth (i.e. that which would truly set us free to be our best), and live it fully.
This is one of the relaxing and thought provoking reads which in my life at the right time. The book is so easy to read but gives you a lot of depth through minimum words on topics like finding your truth, death, pain, loss, meaning of life. It is worth investing in and read it when you just want to relax and think deep about life.
This is the second book I’ve read by Kamal Ravikant, and I continue to be so impressed by how consistent his tone is. He tells stories with such simplicity and clarity, yet they never lose their impact. I was obsessed with “Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It,”so picking up Live Your Truth was an easy yes for me.
This book made me pause and reflect deeply on what my own truth is. I have an inkling of what it might be, but Kamal’s words made me question and examine it more closely which I think is the real gift of this book. It offers insights and practical ways to not only find your truth but live it in a way that feels sustainable.
I loved how Kamal wove in references to other books, pop culture (hello Fight Club), and wisdom from figures like Hemingway and Gandhi. It felt like sitting with someone who had gathered stories, learned from them, and then generously distilled them into something we can carry with us.
I tried a few of the exercises in the book and found them both helpful and grounding. Kamal’s advice is never theoretical or intimidating; it’s simple, doable, and action-oriented. That’s something I really respect about him as a writer and teacher.
This book will stay with me for a long time. It’s one I’ll revisit when I need to re-center and remind myself to live my truth. :)
Kamal is an interesting author. He writes simple books for smart people, or to the extent that the people who grab his books consider themselves smart, - like myself. "Live Your Truth" is one of those books that you can't put your finger on and declare that it is self-help, or philosophy, or psychology... It is a book about life, about how to be, how to live in this increasingly complex world.
I found myself reading chapter after chapter and if at the beginning all I can say is that the book is very well written, I find myself feeling way better about myself and life in general whenever I read Kamal's books. He is able to write about really sad episodes of his life, with the same Buddha like calm, reflection and consideration. Don't expect that this will transform your life, I don't think it was the purpose of it anyway, but expect it to make you feel way better about yourself, your life and a total acceptance about the situation that you find yourself in. Kamal is an author to be cherished and loved by us, smart folks who NEED simple books to properly function. :)
I happened upon this book by scrolling down on Amazon and choosing it from the “Other Readers who read this book, read these as well” section. I have been working on myself, my life and the nit picky voices in my head for over 2 years now. One day, it all clicked, and I have never been the same. Now, I read “Self Help” and “ Enlightenment” books like crazy. It’s like I’m Neo in The Matrix and I am learning tons of life truisms as he was learning Kung Fu and how to fly helicopters. I can’t and don’t want to stop. This book was one of the ones I was searching for. Short, concise, real and to the point. I purchased the Kindle version but this book is a keeper. One you will want with you for the rest of your days, full of highlighter marks and earmarked pages. I will buy the hand held version now. Thank you for sharing your life and your wisdom with me Kumal.
Things haven't really been going my way and I was caught in the same mental loop for a few weeks. I read Love Yourself for a second time but had trouble applying it. I realized that I was rejecting myself and what happened to me, instead of letting it pass through and learning from it. Once I put it on paper, I felt lifted. Failure is the ultimate character building and I bombed it pretty bad. Despite that, I feel like I actually had a real look at myself for the first time in a long time. Instead of blaming the world for doing me wrong, I found new areas in my life where I can improve. At the end of the day things usually work out some way or another. Patting myself on the back and saying "it's okay, we're gonna be fine" was the hard part. Thanks for putting out this gem Kamal.
Possibly inspiring for others but I personally found it boring, like reading someone's personal diary ramblings (no offence to the author, but it just wasn't as new, original or thought-provoking as I was expecting but that's more to do with me and my hopes :). I'll admit I do like this quote though "by taking care of myself in this moment, I’m creating a beautiful past for myself as the moment has already passed". There's a lot of very simple ideas like this. So all in all I fairly skimmed through the book(very quick read) without leaving any notes, which is another indicator to me how little I got from it. Tbh, I think, being nosy, I would have found tales of his love life and past relationships more riveting to read, but alas there was none of that in there.
Live Your Truth is a feel good book with plenty of short, punchy examples from Kamal's life. The basic concept of living your truth is based on finding your truth, and while there are a few sentences on how to find your truth, this key step is largely left to the reader to discover. If you already know your truth, then this book is an admonition to just live it already!
Despite a lack of depth in assisting the reader with methods to find his/her truth, I liked this book. It was filled with poignient stories that insire intropection, a stepping back to examine if you are engaged in pursuits that speak to you, and perspective on life itself.
Simple words, simple idea, beautifully packaged. This book gives you an amazing insight into what it takes to find and live YOUR truth. Its not a workbook, its not a How To, its Jamal sharing his story in a bid to inspire and ignite others on their own self discovery path. Beautiful read. Its short; read it. Lap it up. Highlight the good bits, there are many.
I don’t normally write reviews but I felt compelled for this. I have just binged Kamal’s works in the space of 4 days. Each book has brought a different meaning to me but all have left me feeling excited about the next chapter. Most importantly, excited for the next adventure and ready to accept my truth, my present and that I do whole heartedly love myself. I don’t think anyone will be left wondering after reading this or any of Kamal’s other books. If anything, people will be left inspired
A total knock off of „Love yourself like your life depends on it“ First off he starts with telling how amazing his first book was (and keeps repeating it a couple of times) and he pretty much repeats everything he already said before. Those tipps might be really useful and nice but if you read the first book it‘s not really anything special or new.
I was reading this at the same time as The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, and I couldn't decide which was better! I was also going through a rough patch at the time and badly needed a period of soul-searching. This was the perfect book, I have read it four times and it's still great. Thanks Kamal!
Another excellent book which explores why it’s important to live your truth, whatever that is, from a place of genuine honesty and connection. The various insights have helped me with my self-love journey and with bring my life to a different place where I am being honest with myself and what I really want, while also being less attached to all the things that otherwise get in the way.
I came across this book after reading naval ravikant's book who happens to be Kamal's brother. The book is short which is great, the book is written truly and one can feel the truth in it. A must read to absorb simple thoughts in a mind thats jolted with fear and negativity.
It was a short book, but some pages were truly impactful. A calming read—something you can turn to when life feels heavy or even when everything’s going well. I didn’t resonate with everything he shared, but still, it was a good read. Maybe I’ll come back to it after five years—perhaps then, the words will hit deeper.
