A smooth talker. An even better listener. And handsome as heaven on earth. He is God's Gift to Women. Julian Payne gets into bed with millions of women every night. As an after-hours radio talk-show host, Julian captivates his female audience with his deep voice and sensitive spirit. Women can't get They call in, begging for his advice about love, lust, commitment, and betrayal. Julian provides his listeners with the blunt male perspective, and he always has the right thing to say. But when it comes to his own romantic life, or lack thereof, he's at a loss for words. A widower and father to ten-year-old Samantha, Julian wants nothing more than to settle down again with the right woman. Just when he thinks he's found her in Dr. Terri Ross -- smart, stunning, and with her own counseling practice -- Julian is confronted by a ghost from the Olivia Brown, a woman with whom he had a one-night stand. Suddenly Julian finds himself in a situation with a woman who's determined to win him over...or make his life a living hell. Michael Baisden's hottest offering yet, God's Gift to Women is a compelling tale about the consequences of sex with a stranger.
When it comes to entertaining, enlightening and educating, no one in talk radio compares to Michael Baisden. His high-octane energy and love for interacting with his listeners is just one reason for the popularity and success of The Michael Baisden Show. The Bad Boy ignites heated discussions with explosive episodic themes like: Living Your Dream, Your Body Is Your Temple, and Pimps In The Pulpit.
His radio career began in 2003 when 98.7 KISS FM in New York City offered him a position as the afternoon drive-time host. Because of budget constraints the station was unable to offer him a salary. Michael's response was, "Just give me the damned mic!" And sure enough, within six months, their afternoon drive ratings went from number 9 to number 1.
After eight months of consistent high ratings, Michael suggested taking his show national but management was apprehensive, suggesting that New York wasn't ready. A few months later, Michael threatened to quit if management did not pursue a syndication deal. "There was no doubt in my mind that I could have one of the hottest shows on radio! I knew the impact it would have on people all across the country and I wasn't taking no, for an answer," Michael rebutted.
His vibrant personality on and off the air has made him a people magnet. He began attracting attention with primarily female followers as author and publisher of the highly successful provocative books: "Never Satisfied: How and Why Men Cheat", "Men Cry in the Dark", "The Maintenance Man", and lastly "God's Gift to Women". Two of his titles ultimately were adapted into stage plays.
But his proudest moment came on September 20, 2007, when he passionately and skillfully spearheaded the famous Jena 6 March in Jena, Louisiana. This historic and momentous occasion garnered tens of thousands citizens of all races to peacefully marched in support of six young men who have been unfairly treated by the justice system. In addition, he urged millions of listeners to wear black on September 20 in protest of unequal justice. The news traveled throughout the country, everyone wore black in support of the Jena 6, from college students of all races to corporate executives.
2008 was another historic year. In late January Michael endorsed Sen. Barack Obama in the democratic primary against Sen. Hillary Clinton. Sen. Obama ultimately won and went on to defeat Sen. John McCain in general election on November 4. Michael celebrated with over 4,000 fans at a watch party in Miami on election night. The Obama camp along with millions of listeners credited Michael with being one of the major forces behind this historic victory to elect the first African American to the Presidency of the United States.
The Bad Boy continues to entertain, enlighten and educate as he pursues one of his first dreams, to have his novels adapted to major Motion pictures. The other dream was to host a Late Night Talk show. He got that chance in the fall of 2007, when he partnered with TV One to host and co-executive produce "Baisden After Dark," featuring comedian George Willborn and band leader Morris Day. The show was a smash hit, breaking records for viewers on the black owned network.
First of all sometimes if you're not enjoying a book putting down and returning to it at a later date helps. Sometimes it just proves you should have never picked it back up. I'm not quite sure where this book falls on that spectrum but it sure was an experience.
Michael Baisden is/was a legend in the Black literary game. My mom read his books and I could never understand why she would either laugh or roll her eyes as she read them...but now everything has become clear.
Michael Baisden writes about Fuck Boys. I'm not sure if that term was used back in the late 90s early 2000s but it fits Baisden characters perfectly.
Women are either Whores or Wife's
Women are either crazy or subservient
Men are alpha men or simps
Michael Baisden writes characters I 100% hate but I will admit that these people do exist in real life.
God's Gift to Women should be a 1 or 2 star read but it was just over the top bonkers enough for me to enjoy it. God's Gift reminded me of the Lifetime movies from the 1990's and 2000s that I grew up loving. These movies were stupid and corny but they were also fun. Some woman would move in next door to our heroine, befriend her and then plot to steal her life.
Ya know the fun stuff.
This book reminded me so much of that vibe and it was a fun ride. I really can't recommend this book to anyone but if you like vintage Lifetime movies maybe check it out from the library.
I read "GOD'S GIFT" and I must say I was unimpressed. I expected more development with certain characters and subplots. The fact that Julian encountered a woman who was mentally unstable was quite believable. What was however unbelievable was the fact that he took so much of her mess never seeking assistance from law enforcement. Overall the book was somewhat interesting yet predictable at times. In my opinion, this was not Michael Baisden's best work, but a decent read none-the-less. Bottom line, the message in this book is very clear. Be careful who you take home. When emotions begin to run high, it can be a recipe for disaster.
It really was a good read....a true black fatal attraction indeed! Men need to be careful how they treat women because some are not so stable! A page turner for real!!
Decent read. Kind of predictable, but the writing was decent and I could picture plenty of black actors/actresses cast into these roles. Written better than some in the genre. One of the characters Eddie just kind of got caught up with circumstances. The book really proves to men and women to really watch out when you are dating and sleeping around etc. things get tricky and people really can obsess over you. I figured Olivia was the teacher. Olivia is a conflicted character from the beginning major red flag! Mitch is that one good friend everybody needs around. Terri and Julian’s relationship went kind of fast, but it works for the book purposes. The daughter Samantha seems to be more of a teenager than a ten year old. Those low budget movies on Tubi are my guilty pleasure so when I read one of these it reminds me of one of those kind of movies.

OMG a one-night stand can lead to drama. In this book we thirty-nine year widower Julian Payne from Chicago who's getting ready to move to Houston with his ten-year old daughter Samantha where he's moving his late night radio show to.
The night before he leaves he hits the town one last time with his friends when he meets Olivia Brown he figures if he has one night with her then everything will be okay WRONG!!!
He moves to Houston and his show Love, Lust, and Lies its on the verge of going national when he meets Dr. Terri Ross who works inn the same building as him they hit a rough patch at first but thru cannot deny the growing attraction between them.
Back in Chicago, Olivia is still fuming as to how she thinks Julian played her ask she decides to go to Houston and make his life a living hell by coming up with different excuses and names to cover her tracks.
Men this just goes to show that you cannot play with women's emotions like that we have feelings too and some women are too emotionally scarred by the pain of either being raped or having a miscarriage really dnt heal properly.
Michael Basiden did a good job with this book I highly recommend this book to everyone who's been in a situation like this before.
"GOD'S Gift to Women" is a classicly raw story of fatal attraction. Telling the story of radio host Julian Payne and how his life unfolds upon meeting Olivia Brown, Baisden combines poetry, the 'pull' of celebrity, the 'push' of it's 'privileges' , and a strong subject to convey a message particularly relevant in today's society. The introduction of unique characters and true to life experiences make this book stand out in Baisden's catalogue. Baisden has definitely gotten better with every single novel. After having read "Men Cry In The Dark", "The Maintanence Man Part I and II" , "Never Satisfied", and now, "God's Gift To Women", I'd gladly recommend his books to anyone.
I enjoyed reading this book. The plot was nice and full, even though the dramatic events weren't detailed enough. It all happened so quickly in the book without much explanation and left me feeling a little empty. Other than that the characters were fun, easy to relate to and very real. The mix of having the man be a successful black male radio host in a big city worked well for this novel. I wouldn't read it again, because it has a predictability about it but I would recommend it to anyone out there that enjoys watching the show Snapped on Oxygen.
Out of all of Michael Baisden books, I'm compelled to believe GOD'S GIFT TO WOMEN, may be the best one yet! Like aged wine, his stories get better with time.
GOD'S GIFT TO WOMEN has a great story line, admittedly it is sometimes very predictable, but it is still heated, fast and kept my finger running for the next page.
A very good lesson to learn, you play with fire and you may get burned! BE-WARE!
One night stands will lead you to many nights of problems. If Julian knew that the beautiful, seductress Olivia would cause this many problems he would not have given her a second glance. On his last night in town, Julian agreed to have a one night stand with Olivia, after that he thought he would never see or hear from her again.
He couldn't have been more wrong! Olivia relocates to the same place Julian moves, and puts his life in danger. Olivia is unstable, and crazy!!!
This was a fast book with a lot of action!!! But, there were a LOT of spelling & punctuation mistakes. Whoever proof-read it did a lousy job, otherwise I'd have given it a better rating. Proper grammar would've made this book easier to read. I mean, it got so bad I was circling stuff with a red pen. Hey Mr. Blaisden, if you're reading this, feel free to send me a copy of your latest work in progress so I can make some corrections on it.
Right after this book came out Michael Baisden's radio show came on in NYC, and he was syndicated all over the country, so i felt like he may have been writing this book from experience. It's a pity he stopped writing! He is totally annoying on the radio, but I loved him as a writer.
Similar to the movie A Thin Line Between Love and Hate and I'm not sure which came out first. This book had a different cover when I read it. Michael Baisden seems to be a good fiction and non fiction writer. Loved it
This book was amazing from start to end Olivia brown was a piece a work it crazy that the heart makes you do some strange things she snap all the way out....
God’s Gift to Women Julian counts down the minutes until he does his final radio show (Love, Lust, and Lies) but just as it’s time to end he takes a call from a woman that says the man she was with left her after he found out she was raped. She says she and Julian have something in common-they’re both alone-. Little does she know she’s correct. Julian’s wife died from cancer a couple of years ago and he hasn’t wanted to date since. But as he closes up shop and plans to head for a new life in Houston, he decides to leave all his baggage there.
Julian has a friend named Eddie-who has whorish ways= but he’s dating a good woman named Denise (who keeps trying to set Julian up with her girlfriends). Before he leaves town, they meet at a hot spot. Despite telling Julian she wouldn’t try it this night, she does anyway and introduces him to a drop-dead gorgeous woman named Olivia Brown. Because of her looks and conversation, Julian soon finds himself getting aroused, but he tells her they can’t go there. He’ll be starting a new life in Houston. She basically says it's cool and is down to have a one-night stand and they leave for her place. She asks if she can have his license plate number to give to a friend just to be on the safe side. They screw each other’s brains out and he leaves her a goodbye note.
A car pulls in and almost takes Julian’s car door off. It’s a beautiful woman. She apologizes and rushes off. Inside he introduces himself to her and she says she knows who he is and introduces herself as Terry Ross. She says she sits in to give relationship advice at the station, but she has her own practice. Julian tries to get her number, but instead, she gives him a card for her foundation tells him to mention it on his show. She says she doesn’t do celebrates because they’re all whorish and leaves him there hanging. The receptionist warns him that she has a low tolerance. Julian gets his old producer back Mitch and he will start tomorrow night. He lets Mitch and Janet know he plans to pursue Terry.
Olivia somehow finds Julian’s information and makes plans to take a flight to Houston. With hours until his show, Julian goes to an African American book store and buys books for inspiration, flowers and a card for Terri. Olivia surprises him with a call and says she’s there “on business”. She gets him to agree to meet her at her hotel so they can toss around ideas for his show. Terri and Janet discuss her last relationship with a man named Michael who she let shack with her a year only to leave her for his ex-wife. Janet tells her she needs to let go and Terri becomes angry and kicks her out her office. Julian’s package arrives (rosses, the Maintenances Man book, and a poem). She and Janet make up and go to lunch. Things turn sexual in Olivia’s room quickly, but as she tries to get him off, she starts to lose his appeal. When he pushes her away, she throws some of this things at him and gives him a bloody nose. Then she flip-flops back to being nice. He finally makes it outta there.
Julian’s premier tho is a big hit. The topic of his show is “Maintenance Men”. The phone blows up all night. Olivia calls but he never takes the call. Her question is how does she let her mantience man know it’s not over? Terri eventually calls Julian but he checks her about not telling him thank you or returning his calls. He says he doesn’t know who hurt her but it wasn’t him and gives her the dial tone. She then comes correct and they make a date to meet at his place for a swim. (His new house comes with a pool). Terri discusses her fears with Julian but he convinces her fears with Julian andhe convinces her that she doesn’t have to be strong-just be Terri- So she decides to let him in. She’s just not ready to go *there* yet with him. Julian finally feels like he’s found everything he wanted.
Olivia shows up at Julian’s (in a trench coat nothing else) with a gift for Sam (a pillow that says the Princess sleeps-which is his nickname for her-). She *says* she gets the hint after he brushes her off and ask for a hug before she leaves the next day. He obliges and tries to tell himself that’s the end of her. Eddie and Terri meet. They don’t like each other, but Eddie and Janet immediately take to each other. Terri freaky alter ego comes out (Eve) but for the moment they’ll have to put sex on hold that night. Julian comes up with the topic for his show Bug-A-Boo. Terry calls toward the end then “Eve” appears. Julian rushes home and they end up making love. The next morning, Sam comes home and busts Julains groove just as he’s about to have oral.
Julian runs into Olivia at a club. She says she came with someone but ends up in Julian’s car after getting soaked from the rain. He drops her off at a friend’s house”. He ends up inside because he really needs to use the bathroom but he has a flat tire. Hurts says they can’t get someone out until the morning because of the weather. Olivia tells him he can sleep in the guest room and she’ll sleep in her friend’s bed. The next morning, he finds himself undressed with marks on his neck. Julian tries to sneak out, but on the way out he sees her naked in a room painting and other paintings of disturbing images. He accidentally knocks over some mail and sees this isn’t her friend’s house. This is HER house. Olivia catches him and hands him a *surprise* (a jewelry box) and says it’s there 4-month anniversary. Julian decides to play along. Olivia tries to get him to go to breakfast but he says he has to go check on his daughter. She says she’ll go to, but he stops her. When he tells her she’s not going she get emotional. He tries to leave and cut her out, but she throws a box cutter at him. She misses and then gives him a warning. Luckily the man is throw with his car. The man tells him someone slit his tire and that he’d get away while he could from that girl. Julian opens the box and finds a Rolex. Julian thinks back to a conversation he had with Mitch while they were supposedly off air and realizes Olivia must have been on the line and knew he’d be at the club.
The racist white girl in Sam’s class whose been aggravating her since she got there gets punished by “Mrs. Randall” the new substitute. Julian gets a surprise in a meeting to take the show nationwide. Terri comes to his office unexpectantly and since he’s been avoiding her he makes plans for the weekend. She asks for a hug and then reips off the band aide hiding the hickey he got from Olivia. She calls it off. Things with Sam and Julian are strained after the incident with Terry although they do start spending more time together. are strained. Sam and “Mrs. Randall bond after she displays a voice much like Alicia Keys. Mrs. Randall takes Sam to the mall and buys her clothes, but tells her don’t tell her Dad.
Mitch tells Terri what went down, and she and Julian make up. Julian tells her that he hasn’t heard from Olivia and he thinks she got the message, but Terri tells him that it may not be as over as he thinks. On Halloween, Julian receives a scare. There’s a message on his bathroom mirror TRICK OR TREAT. After making sure Sam’s ok he then sees a red, SUV, peeling away.
There’s a get together and Eddie and Denise show up. Janet also shows up. She seems to know about Denise. Julian tries to get in Eddie’s face, but he says he’s got it handled. Terri gets sick and rushes to the bathroom,. Sam and Terri bond a little. Denise notices Eddie and Janet getting more comfortable. Denise dumps a drink over Janet’s head. She goes off on Eddie but he’s so drunk he’s just nonchalant about it and tells her that’s what she signed up for and she knew it. She threws the ring at him and tells him to get the hell out of her house when he gets back. Julian then kicks Eddie the hell out. Julian gets a call from Olivia. She threatens him and then pleads for them to go back, but he tells her to kick rocks. She again gives him a warning and then hangs up. Miss Randall finds out from Sam that Julian has a new girlfriend. “Mrs.Eve Johnson” shows up at Terri’s office and she tells this story about resenting her father. Then she lays out the scenario. Terri tells her to let it go Then she tells her she’s killed, someone. Terri then starts to throw up. She says it’s something she ate. Eve asks if it’s morning sickness. Then she starts telling her about her abortion, miscarriage, and abusive husband. Then she “opens herself up” to the doctor. Then her contacts start to slip out. Terri suddenly realizes who she is. She excuses herself. Julian then shows up and burst into the office, but she’s gotten out. He chases after her but he slips. Olivia turns around and then starts to stab him with her box cutter. He grabs her arm and it drops. Terri reaches them and Olivia takes off. She says she’ll be back. Tery says she’s going to the police, but Julian says don’t. He won’t let her ruin him going nationwide. Julian goes by Olivia’s house but the house is deserted.
Terri convinces Julian to call the FBI when she overhears him talking to Mitch and finds out he has a gun. Meanwhile, Olivia lures Eddie to a motel to “photograph” her for a CD cover and slashes him to death with the box cutter. Olivia calls Julius and gives him the address to the motel and he discovers Eddie sliced and diced. Then he puts 2 and 2 together after another call from Olivia that she’s Sam’s substitute teacher. He goes to check on Sam. His gun is gone. He goes to Sam’s room and sees a letter and a royal blue pillow. The letter says that Sam is being held hostage and Olivia will meet him at the studio. When he gets there Mitch is stripped and duck taped. Olivia has a pistol on Samantha. (She’s naked). She orders Julian to get on the air. She’s waiting for Terri who shows up. On the air, Olivia reads this poem “God’s Gift to Women”. She tries to make him apologize but he gives her a screw you. Terri tries to plead with Olivia but she just laughs at her and points the gun on her and says she has no idea. She says she killed Eddie because she represents all the men in her life and since she can’t have Julian.
Terri uses the rack to knock her over and escape with Sam. Two shots hit Julian. Olivia jumps up while he’s shot, jumps on him, and points the gun on him, but Terri knocks her off. But while they struggle Olivia takes the box cutter and aims it at Terri’s stomach. Mitch ends up blasting her out the window. The weird thing is there’s a woman in the crowd with hazel eyes and a deranged smile but they say Olivia’s dead. Terri has a boy (Edward). Terri and Julian both have to go to therapy. It's undecided if they’ll marry. Julian dedicates the book to arrogant men that toy with women’s emotions as a warning.
My Thoughts: This is what happens when men's let their male anatomy control the rest of them! This book reminded me a WHOLE LOT of the movie It’s A Thin Line Between Love and Hate. I think this book should be REQUIRED reading for men -any men but especially African American men-. Because men need to be aware of the damage and hurt they often cause when they play around with women’s emotions. I don’t doubt that some would do it any way but if it just makes them stop for a minute and *think* that they might end up like Eddie then maybe just maybe we’d have one less Olivia (who scared me a little bit with that box cutter). And I don’t scare easily. My favorite holiday is Halloween with all its gore and thrills and chills. But I’ve watched “scary” movies that didn’t disturb me as much as what ol girl did in that hotel room. I actually felt bad for Olivia. Was she mentally deranged? ABSOLUTELY! But the things she said I guess in a dark, twisted, way I *got it*. I don’t know if I could feel any sympathy for Eddie. I know it was horrible but Julian tried to tell him, but some people you just can’t tell. This very same situation happened to an ex of mine that I’d been seeing. This ex meet this woman in a grocery store and decided it was a good idea (not even knowing her a month I suspect) thought it was a good idea to have him shack with him. And in the end, she turned out to be “Olivia” she went through his phone and tried to call all his female contacts and then tried to set fire to his car. She even tried to shoot up his apartment. He ended up going to court. That’s the last I heard. It really should NOT have to go to this extreme t but the sad truth it sometimes this is what it takes. I just really wish it wasn’t that way and that if men KNEW that when they saw you saw you and they knew that you weren’t that type they wanted for the long haul they’d have the strength to ignore their hormones and just WALK AWAY!
Rating: 8 I wrote a story similar to this called Settling the Score and on the whole NOT BAD! Both Olivia and Terry were two different sides of the same coin. It shows how one man can bring out the trust in one woman and the very same man can bring out the psycho in a totally different woman.

You know… I show this book a lot of grace because it was written in the early 2000s. It wasn’t a bad book by any means but the male characters in the book with the exception of Mitch were annoying. Julian was annoying in the sense that wasn’t a good father to Samantha. Giving her a whooping because she was upset that she caught YOU at the kitchen table with your face in between Terri’s legs didn’t sit right with me. Another scene that pissed me off was the engagement party scene where Eddie invited his side chick to his engagement party.
All in all good book, pretty predictable but the drama was good.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’m glad Julian learned from the era of his ways and was able to find true love again. There are so many Olivia’s in the world, just as there are many Eddie’s. Love the lessons.
This is the 2nd book by Michael B I've read. The 1st was Maintenance man. I've got to say, I enjoyed reading this much more, even more than I thought I would. I like how it ended. I like that it was happy-sad in a way.
I recently reread this book, after reading it previously when it was released back in 2002. It is still just as relevant and good as it was back then. It is definitely a page-turner!
I decided to re-read this as a 2012 read since I knew it was a quick and easy read. I must say that I enjoyed it more the first time around as a teen.
This book feels like one that has been written tons and tons of times. The fatal attraction story is easy to write. I don't want to say that Michael Baisden is a lazy writer, but I need more originality from him in order to take him seriously. He was the main character, and I've never seen someone have a 2 page biography in their own book which they also made a shameless plug in the story.
I enjoy his radio show, but this book was too arrogantly written for me to thoroughly enjoy.
Michael Baisden has done it again with this page-turning novel.
GOD'S GIFT TO WOMEN is the story of a man named Julian who makes the wrong move when he has a one night stand with a woman who is not at all what she seems. She is craaaazy, deraaanged (*sorry, Martin Lawrence reference*)
Julian learns a hard lesson from that one night of passion, as well as suffering some serious consequences. This is a book that you will NOT want to end. Full of suspense, it's a guilty pleasure novel that will keep you up reading through the night.
This book is a complete page turner. I love how Michael Baisden engages you in the stories he writes. I needed the love story with a side of self sabotage which is what he did, everyone knows a one night stand is never just that. I don't feel he deserved the drama that followed but I understand how women can wrap themselves up in a fantasy so intense that it alters their true reality and put a side of crazy in the mix and hey you have a distraction for a day or two this book did just that. Enjoyed this book.
This is an "urban" style book. The main character (Julian) is a radio personality that is up and coming. He is a widowed single father whose focus is his daughter and career. After a one night stand his life turns upside down as the woman he slept with turns out to be a crazed stalker. It definitely covers the consequences of sleeping with a woman who has been hurt in the past and is scorned.
This book was good as well. This book is basically an everday issue of men playing with the feelings of a woman. Sometimes we as people do not at what expense you will have to pay for playing with someones feelings. Some people have been through so much in their lives that they can't take anymore and they snap. Take my advice this chick SNAPPED, CRACKLED AND POPPED. A woman scorned is an F'ed up way to die. Great book, you can learn from this Players of both species women and men.
I picked this up at my school library and was surprised at how quick a read it was! I could not put it down, it had me intrigued from the very beginning. The whole plot was basically about how men take advantage of women without thinking of a consequences. An interesting and compelling read. Definitely makes you think, it's the perfect read for players, both women and men.
In God’s Gift to Women, one night of passion turns Julian’s world upside down. This is due to the fact that Olivia has decided that one night is not enough. When Julian refuses to continue to see her, she starts acting like she has a fatal attraction. This book was fast paced and filled with drama. I found it very hard to put it down.
