Hot damn! Ms. Ballenger rocked the hell out of this book, making Immortal Hunter one of UTC’s Top Pick for this year. Ms. Ballenger continues to impress me with the none-stop excitement in this book. It had a perfect blend of mystery, action, humor, romance and a little bit of heartbreak.

That brings us to the hero of Immortal Hunter, David Aronowitz and he is the best in demon exorcist around. And he's working hard to over come the lost of the love of his life only to find her again in time to almost loose her again by events that took place in Twilight Hunter. That's where IH starts, about a month after TH.

David and Allsun (Allie) grew up together and became BFFs in high school then after Allie went to Ireland one summer to visit family she came back all grown up and David started seeing her as more than just his best friend. The two realized they were in love and got engaged. But after one hellish break up and five years later the two can't each other out of their heads or hearts.

David and Allie were not only engaged to get married but they also hunted demons together. See David is not the only one in the couple that has special abilities (his exorcist gift), Allie is half fae, pixie to be exact. And all those years ago when she gave David her heart she also gave him another piece of herself that she needs back.

Allie and David's romance is full of heart-break. Some of it could have been avoided if Allie had talked more with David but her hurt over David's decision to join the EU made her act out and things only go worse that night long along. Kait Ballenger really puts you through the emotional ringer with Immortal Hunter.

I think Lori at Romancing the Dark Side summed up this series greatly when we were talking about it... "The guys remind me a little of BDB without the fangs...LOL"

If you're looking for a great PNR series that's only 2 books (and a novella) in you can quickly catch up with Kait Ballenger's Execution Underground series. And what's not to love about a demon hunting alpha male that reads romance novels?

Immortal Hunter, the second book in Kait Ballenger's unique Execution Underground series, was an incredibly slow read for me which was beyond disappointing as the first book, Twilight Hunter, was made of awesome and I've been itching for David's story since finishing it.

Don't get me wrong, the world building is phenomenal (as each member of the Execution Underground specializes in a different field and this is our first look at an exorcist in action) but I had a hard time relating to the heroin ...more

IMMORTAL HUNTER is a solid follow up to the series. In fact I liked this more than Twilight Hunter. Aside from the fantastic plot, conflict and resolution, David and Allsún are great main characters. Their relationship has depth and very grown up, devoid of juvenile antics we sometimes see in other PNR novels. Allsún, a half-Fae (pixie) and the only Fae outside of the Isle of Apples, was kidnapped and tortured before David and the rest of the EU team could save her. After spending the past few weeks in a coma, Allsún wakes to a burning need to stop a rampaging demon. Unfortunately, now that she’s been discovered, every demon on earth will want to track her down and stop her. So the once lovers must team up to stop the demons and hope that neither one gets killed in the process.

Immortal Hunter is an emotionally satisfying, action-filled tale that I throughly enjoyed. It is evident when reading the book that the author put her heart into this tale, and it is a better story because of it. Overall, it is a much stronger, more cohesive tale when compared to the first two books in the series. Immortal Hunter can be read as stand alone, even though Allsún and David's story started briefly in the prior book.

Gaining perspective from both David and Allsún’s point-of-views, the reader learns about the demons roaming the earth, as well as the history of the Fae. In addition, there are a number of flashbacks that allow the reader to connect with both characters on a deeper level. The flashbacks are not disruptive to the flow of the story, but rather enhance the overall reading experience. Learning how David and Allsún once loved each other - and never stopped - allows for a more immediate and natural connection between the pair.

Throughout the story and up until we learn the full truth, Allsún leaves the readers hints that there is way more to the story of why she left David five years prior. As the somewhat predictable truth is uncovered, I became engrossed with the book and attached to the couple. I wanted them to get past their past so that their love could move them forward. It is evident that Ms. Ballenger gave a lot of herself to these characters, allowing them to blossom and grow. I was deeply touched by their journey.

David is faced with a demon mystery of sorts - horrific human killings, to include infant children. The clues left behind at each murder scene don’t add up, and it is thrilling to watch David attempt to piece each clue together. I appreciate that upon describing a horrific murder scene, the author used David's emotions and reactions to paint the picture of how brutal it was, rather than share with the reader the gruesome details. In addition, the reader receives periodic updates from the antagonist’s POV, making the entire mystery very intense and exciting.

One of the things that also stands out for me in Immortal Hunter is that the EU team is a more cohesive group. In the previous book, I didn’t like how they were completely leery of one another and always so quick to believe the worst. This time around, the group act more like brothers-in-arms and close friends, making for a much more satisfying read. I liked seeing Jace and Frankie, the h/h from the prior book. It was enjoyable to know that they don’t just “ride off into the sunset,” but their relationship continues to grow. In addition, the reader is treated to a brief look at a more sympathetic Damon, as well as meet Vera, (I’m guessing) the future HEA for teammate Shane. Their moments were fun to read.

There were a couple “what the??” moments for me - like one time when David leaves a demonic possession scene to confront Allsún. It felt out of character that he would be so sloppy and careless. But those moments are rare and don’t take away from the overall storyline.

In the end, Immortal Hunter is a wonderful paranormal love story. The personal connections between David and Allsún and among the EU teammates is palatable. I enjoyed how they joked and cared about each other. This is the camaraderie I had hoped for in the precious book. Allsún and David have a strong connection because of their history, one that was brought to life via flashbacks, inner turmoil/monologue, and conversation.

The overall story of a demon trying to return to the human realm was also interesting and exciting. Even though the reader is privy to the demonic plans via POV from the antagonist, I liked watching David and crew try and piece together the clues. I am looking forward to reading the next story in the Execution Underground series, especially with substantial character progress for each of the members of the EU team. ...more

This is book two in the series (even though amazon says it is book 3 for reason) I have not read the two previous books, but the book can easily stand alone. The whole premise of the book is exciting David Aronowitz, as a exorcist working for the execution underground.
There are some really tender moments between him and Allusun and you felt like this was the second chance they needed to be together. Well, they do say three is a crowd because Allusun has a little demon issue of her own.

First let me say that I wasn’t lost at all while reading even though I hadn’t read the first book. Second I have to say….I loved this book and will be reading all of the installments from here on out!

In his line of work he’s come across some of the most heinous Immortal Hunter is the second book in author Kait Ballenger’s Execution Underground Series and admittedly the first book I have read. First let me say that I wasn’t lost at all while reading even though I hadn’t read the first book. Second I have to say….I loved this book and will be reading all of the installments from here on out!
Exorcist and Execution Underground member David Aronowitz is used to seeing some pretty gruesome things. In his line of work he’s come across some of the most heinous demons imaginable and all sorts of things that go bump in the night. But the particular demon he just killed has him scared the most he’s ever been. Not because the demon was particularly terrifying but because the demon told David something that left his blood running cold….that other demons knew about Allsún and that she was the last fae in this world. She was valuable and vulnerable to the demon world and had remained hidden until now. Allsún, the love of David’s life. Once his fiancé, he would still do anything to protect her and right now she was in dire need of that. Right now she was in a hospital bed recovering from the last time he couldn’t protect her and there’s no way he’d let that happen again.
Suddenly awakened out of a drug induced coma and being pulled by an indescribable force, Allsún O’Hare knew something bad was happening in the demon world. She didn’t know what or where, exactly, just that she had to follow this feeling to where it led her and fight whatever evil lay ahead. She never expected to see David at the house her feelings led her to. It shouldn’t surprise her, really. He was an exorcist after all. But the horror that she encounters at the scene was truly a shock. This wasn’t like anything either of them had seen before and instantly they both know things are bad.
With Allsún in danger and David on the hunt for the most diabolical demon he’s ever encountered, they will be forced to work together to end this reign of terror. Of course spending time together after years of being apart is bound to bring up all of the feelings they once shared. Feelings that never truly went away.
Oh man, I loved this book! I think one of the things I loved most about this book, and the series, is that it takes a different approach. Yes, it’s paranormal and deals with demons and the underworld, but the rituals and weapons they use are different than others I have read. There is a lot of Judaism in the methods David uses to exorcise and I found that really refreshing. One of the other things I loved about this book was the love story between David and Allsún really took a front row seat instead of being on the back burner. I really enjoyed that. The have a whole lot to work through and I wouldn’t have been happy if their issues were resolved in a chapter or two. Luckily, Kait gave us plenty to read and time to understand the feelings fro both David and Allsún’s POVs. It made the connection to the characters so much stronger, which for the ending of this book was imperative. I was a nervous wreck for the last few chapters because I was so worried for David, Allsún and the whole Execution Underground crew! They have one hell of a fight on their hands (no pun intended) and I had no idea what the outcome was going to be. I loved that feeling!
I also loved getting a peek into Damon’s very guarded emotions in the end and I am really hoping we get to see his story soon! I can imagine it’s going to be gut wrenching.

This wasn’t the only reason that Allsún and David went separate ways, but that my friends, is another story.

After the events in Twilight Hunter where Allsún was tortured, she’s been in the hospital, her body and mind trying to mend itself. Seeing David again was a shock to her, reminding her of all the good and bad things they had together and what truly tore them apart. But not even David knows it, and the question is will they be able to forgive each other, and more importantly, themselves before it’s too late?

I was VERY fortunate to be able to help Kait out, reading this as a beta. I received it Friday night, close to midnight, stayed up to 2 AM, went to work the next day, came home, and picked right up. I was done same day. I loved it from beginning to end. Every page was packed with secrets, misunderstandings, little clues, heartache, love, desperation, evilness, and hope. It was filled with Kait and her beautiful writing. She can take simple things and transform them into something entirely else, creating a world you want to sink into and never truly leave.

One thing is the relationship between David and Allsún, how they’re drawn to each other, trying to protect themselves and each other, hoping against hope, knowing it will most likely end in disaster.

There are so many good thing I want to tell you about in this book; their relationship, Damon’s reactions, David’s iron-will, Allisún’s secrets, the demon and the evil plan that it has created, every heart break, the part right after David finally understands what happened, the hurt I felt when I got to know Allsún’s secret…. And DON’T get me started on the ending!! I swear, my heart was in my throat!

Everything, every little piece clicks into place and delivers the Immortal Hunter, the next installment in Kait Ballenger’s Execution Underground Series. It is right up in the same alley as Shadow Hunter and Twilight Hunter, even surpasses them in my opinion.

So what I truly am trying to say; Immortal Hunter delivered everything that kait is known for, and more. She wrecked havoc on my heart, mind and soul, and I will definitely be coming back for more. This is one of those moments where you realize as a reader and blogger how amazing and awesome it is to follow a rising star from the very beginning. *raises teacup* Thank you Kait, for another wonderful book, may there come many more in the future. Never stop what you’re doing. You rock at it!!!

I loved it!! It kept me glued to the pages not wanting to look away for a moment! I might have cried a little (I won't admit it!) but it was worth it!!

This was an enthralling read that had me turning the pages in anticipation. Ms. Ballenger has taken me on an emotional journey with David and Allsún’s story that was heart wrenching but beautifully executed! Well done!

This book starts slow with some awkward writing, enough so I considered giving up. What kept me going is the fascinating world where there are supernatural beings blended beneath mundane existence and hunters sworn to keep the evil ones in check…as much as possible.

Kait Ballenger is a new “voice” in paranormal romance and I really love the world she’s built with her Execution Underground series. It started with the outstanding prequel Shadow Hunter and continued with her first full length novel Twilight Hunter. Her second book, Immortal Hunter, is no slouch in the series but does dim a bit in the shine department compared to the other books in the series. But I think there’s a very good reason for that. It might have been that the difficult subject matter Kait Ballenger is a new “voice” in paranormal romance and I really love the world she’s built with her Execution Underground series. It started with the outstanding prequel Shadow Hunter and continued with her first full length novel Twilight Hunter. Her second book, Immortal Hunter, is no slouch in the series but does dim a bit in the shine department compared to the other books in the series. But I think there’s a very good reason for that. It might have been that the difficult subject matter may have overshadowed the action we come to want a bit more of in our paranormal romances.

But like I said, this is still great entry in the series and a solid four on my rating scale. One thing that Ms. Ballenger does in her books, and that I love her for, is that she introduces the next couple to be featured in the upcoming book in the current book. And I’m not talking just a little a little bump in the hallway kind of greeting. We get to actually see interaction, dialogue longer than two sentences, conflict, and of course the foreshadowing to the next book.

It was in the last book, Twilight Hunter, that we met Allsún and learned of her and David’s past. But don’t worry, we actually get the full story in Immortal Hunter. We also get a surprise or three as to what happened between these two former love birds, as well. I don’t know who I blame more for their break up five years prior, David or Allsún (Allie). But getting back together isn’t as easy as it would seem when David wants to protect Allie from the demons who want to get rid of the last living fae on this side of the fae world.

It’s a great story with twists and obstacles for our hero and heroine to negotiate. I just think the paranormal romance side got hidden behind the brutal carnage of the murders that occurring and the glaring reality of the tragedy that happened to Allie after she broke up (did they actually break up?) with David five years ago.

If I was presented with this book three or more years ago, I wouldn’t have been able to read it. Flat out, would. not. read. But I guess as my family has gotten older or as I’ve gotten more jaded, I’ve toughed up. Don’t get me wrong, I still tear up over dead animals in the road. I just must have lost some soft spot on my soul somewhere in the last two years. I blame Christy at Love of Books. I’m sure it’s her fault. She’s pretty jaded and I’m sure it’s catchy.

A lot of the story focused on Allie’s feelings but I felt like we missed a big chunk of David’s feelings when the big reveal came to David. It was almost too focused on Allie, even though Ms. Ballenger’s books have all been dual POV so far. I just would’ve wanted to see David literally fall to pieces like I thought he would have finding out what happened all those years ago. It was the ultimate failure on his part. Ooooo, wouldn’t you like to know?!?!?

See? I told you Ms. Ballenger writes good stories!!!

If you read this story, you need to make sure you read all the way through the acknowledgements portion. I didn’t the first time around. I did, though, when I went back to write this review.

David is an exorcist and together with his fellow hunters working for Exercution Underground he hunts demons. It's an ability that he's used since he was a teenager but then he worked alongside the only woman that he has ever loved ,Allsun. Tragically they are been separated now as Allsun could not accept Davids desire to keep hunting demons when all she wanted was for them both to have a family and a normal life. Allsun is half pixie and that makes her prey to demons and now it looks as if the demons not only know about her but are targeting her! David's only just found her again and he's not about to stand by and just watch her suffer but dark forces are getting closer and Davids biggest fear is about to come true!
This is a paranormal romance and there is a very good story complete with evil bad guys driving the plot of this book but for this reader it was the interaction between the hero David and heroine Allsun that drove this story. They are clearly still madly in love but getting them to admit it to each other felt like pulling teeth! Such a stubborn well meaning pair and I wanted to just bang their heads together! David s everything a hero should be, he's gorgeous, brave, loyal, faithful and possesses a wicked sense of humour. Oh and his talents in the bedroom are legendary! But ask him to sit down and lay his cards fully on the table and the poor guy is absolutely clueless! As a heroine Allsun is just so full of love. She's driven by her need to have it all, David and children and she's made choices that may have felt right at the time but she's not been truly happy. She's carrying secrets and such sorrow that my heart went out to her. Oh she's no pushover and certainly not a weak character but she is someone who I really warmed to and wanted her to get her happy ever after. Their journey is fraught with danger and a twist that will rock fans of this series to their core.
Although part of a series this book is easily read as a standalone but please if at all possible read these books in order. It's a joy to read a book that comes to life and I applaud the author on such an amazing read. This tortured couple are such a stubborn pair but clearly meant for each other. It's an enthralling story and just so emotional but don't worry there is plenty of action and mayhem to keep the readers attention . The words just flow so naturally and it's a storyline that will touch many readers hearts. It's such an exciting world that Ms Ballenger brings to life and I for one really wish she could write faster. In fact I think she has now become an auto buy for me! Immortal Hunter, is the second in the exciting Execution Underground series, where all the members have different supernatural policing specialties. I read the first one, Twilight Hunter, and really enjoyed Jace and Frankie’s story. This one was about David and his ex-fiance, Allie, and I have to say it was a solid entry into the series but not quite as good as the first one, at least that was my take on it.

David is a demon exorcist that has been in love with Allie since they were teenagers. I read the first one, Twilight Hunter, and really enjoyed Jace and Frankie’s story. This one was about David and his ex-fiance, Allie, and I have to say it was a solid entry into the series but not quite as good as the first one, at least that was my take on it.

David is a demon exorcist that has been in love with Allie since they were teenagers. Unfortunately, five years previously, the two had a horrible fight and nothing was ever resolved. This book starts with Allie still hospitalized due to the coma she has been in after being tortured in the first book. As the last of the Fae remaining in this world, Allie is a natural enemy of demons.

Demons are attacking and killing families with babies. And the deaths are pretty horrific. David is not only a hunter but he also is pretty much a detective too. When Allie wakes up from the coma and turns up at one of the crime scenes, she comes face to face with the man she has never stopped loving, David. Long story short, he becomes her protector since the demons are hunting her. Actually not just hunting her,as they have plans to use her as a vehicle to unleash an ancient evil upon humanity.

I had some minor problems with this book. The couple would be at a horrible death scene, and they would end up in a deeply personal conversation, just steps away from gore. That just didn’t work for me. The other thing was, David is acting as her protector, and then when things are bad between them emotionally, he leaves her alone for the night. Really? That was right out of a scary movie when you are yelling at the girl to not go to the basement. She does it anyway. I was yelling at David(in my head) to not leave her. Sure it moved the story along but didn’t make sense with how protective of her he was. And he left her alone more then once.

David and Allie were a good couple but it took awhile to get to there. Neither one of them ever fell out of love with the other. There was a major misunderstanding in the past and the author takes the reader back in time at different points to tell what happened five years before. Most of it was pretty heartbreaking and very necessary to the story.

This story has lots of gory moments and steamy ones as well. I liked the idea of a demon hunter but I just enjoyed Jace’s and Frankie's story more. Maybe it’s because I like werewolves much more then demons as a supernatural character and that is certainly not the authors fault. She definitely is a good writer and I really do look forward to the other hunters stories-Shane in particular,and we may have met his HEA in this book.

I feel like this was well written with only some minor problems but it just could have been a bit better. My main reason for this, and my true test for a great book-it just didn’t make me read non-stop like my favorite reads do. I do believe that most people will enjoy the read and actually, I did too, mostly.(RabidReads.com)

Immortal Hunter is book two in the EU series, but It can be read as a stand alone. We see some characters from the previous installments, but you don't necessarily have to read them in order. At least not at this point.

I like that each of the EU hunters have their own specialty. Which means each book will have it's own angle. That's what makes this series unique. Damon from the Shadow Hunter novella is a vampire hunter and the leader of the Rochester Division. Jace from Twilight Hunter is the be Immortal Hunter is book two in the EU series, but It can be read as a stand alone. David is a exorcists who can get rid of the baddest demons. The guys that have their own story coming are- Shane who specializes in all things occult, aka witches. Ash is a ghost medium that also hunts Poltergeists.Trent is a Shapeshifter hunter of the non werewolf types. The series will finish off with Damon's full story.

Immortal Hunter focuses on David and Allsun. They have an amazing story. This feels like the most believable true love story that I've read in a long time. While the book is paranormal, the root of the relationship woes are embedded in the real world. This is a story of second chances and demon killing of course!

I want to tell you about this book as spoiler free as I can, so forgive me it I'm a little vague. David and Allsun used to be together. They used to hunt demons together. Until Allsun wanted something that David was deathly afraid of. A family and a change of career. So they split and went their own ways. We soon find out that even more than the obvious lead to their separation. What is it? I won't tell. You've got to read the book to find out.

Bottom line, they never got over each other, even though it has been some years since they broke up. In Twilight Hunter, Allsun was kidnapped and tortured because she's one of the last fae around...yep, she's half fairy. Of course David feels guilty for not being there to protect her and he intends to make up for that fact now. Turns out David has a lot to weighing on him, as does Allsun. I can empathize with Allsun and at times I felt down right bad for David. Talk about a no win situation.

Top that with a demon with a master plan on a killing spree. Aside from their own issues, David and Allsun are determined to hunt down this demon and send it back to hell before it possesses and kills more innocent families.

There are many components to this story and they all settle into place and everything comes together nicely. I also appreciate that Ballenger was able to take such a serious relationship topics and seamlessly meld them into a paranormal fiction story. The book was well written and I really enjoyed the writing style. It was very fast and entertaining read.

If you're a paranormal romance fan, this book is a must read!

She was kidnapped and tortured in the last book and now that she's out of harms way, David is set on winning her back. However, Allsún is still angry at David, even though he has no idea what or why, and she fights real hard to keep her heart distanced from him.

I love that each other these books not only deal with a different member of EU but each member is uniquely different. I don't mean just personality wise but specialty wise as well. David is a demon exorcist. That's it. He doesn't hunt vampires, werewolves or knows how to hack into the CIA's files. But he can send a demon back to hell like nobody's business. Allsún many years back was his partner in crime/fiancee. So it doesn't take long for the two of them to start kicking butt against some hell spawn.

It isn't until three quarters of the way through the book that Allsún becomes possessed. From the synopsis, I thought this was the whole story but like I said, it doesn't actually happen until you're well past the half way mark. The first half of the book is David trying to figure out why a demon is attacking families the way that it is. And boy does Kait know how to write a paranormal romance while still giving the reader the nitty gritty of the story. She was able to blur the lines so well between horror/suspense and romance.

"The sulfur-sucking monster had slung the kid's intestines around his corpse as if they were nothing more than sausage links. This had to be the most sickening scene he has ever laid eyes on, and he had seen some seriously messed-up shit during the year he's served in the Brooklyn division."

I like that Kait wrote in your typical drama bombs but she made it her own. She was able to create this story that worked so well for her characters. However, I'd be lying if the authors note at the end didn't pull at my heart strings.

However, I found myself really gravitating to Shane in this story, even though he wasn't a main character. You can tell that he's going to be the next one up but still, for some reason his story really interested me. I like that he's interested in his college student who also bartends at a strip club. I will definitely be sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for his story to come out.
