Mena & Rio. I like them in Daphne's book and uhm not so sure in their own book.
Mena- is a character you wanna love but you kind of hate too. I understand her insecurities regarding feeling lack of love and attention from her parents when their focus always seem to be on Daphne. So she's like the child that sometimes come across as petulant and do outlandish things to get it.
I admire her spunk, easy going nature and being a barrel of fire. That attracted Rio big time. But i hated her trying to get guys to get her way with her parents. And i hated her for devising the plan to sabotage her exboyfriend who immediately after she dumps him founds the love of his life. Her immaturity shows as well as her selfish side in not letting Barry have his happiness. So i kind fins my heart to like her much.
I do like she own up to all her discretions in front of Rio and Barry. Still i wish her character wasnt as bad as it was. Cause Rio's really nice and even Barry is nice so she's like the villain when she's suppose to be the heroine.
Mena and Rio has good chemistry together. They are fun and they light up the page but they didnt have enought pages in the book to save the book and the story. This book could have been a made to a movie and it would have been labelled Family and Romance, is just a minor part.

Philomena Donovan has younger sister syndrome. She thinks that her brilliant sister Daphne has always garnered her parents attention. And when her mother finally says that Daphne should be more like Philomena, it is in reference to the boyfriend she just broke up with. So she decides to win back the boyfriend and finally be her parent's favorite child. Unfortunately for her plan, she runs into the true love of her life, Rio. I really liked Mena 50% of the time. But anytime she was dealing with her sister or being underhanded toward certain men, I thought she was a total beeotch. I'm sure Daphne's story is another book somewhere and I'll certainly read it when I come across it. Overall, I'd call it a fun light read.

Loved Rio and Matt, waited for Mena to grow up. Was glad to read she finally did. Only 3 stars, though. Had to push myself through much of the story, mainly because I got tired of Mena, her manipulating, and the way she picked on Daphne.
Some maddening typos, but at least one ('ajar' instead of 'a jar' as in coffee) was consistent. Toward the end, kept running into errors like 'ex34p5ample.' Really? Was this a draft? :P

my realizations after i read this book:
- lack of parents attention may lead to their child to feel like they’re unworthy, unloved, and unsupported to the point that they intend to do things just to avoid their problems.
- parent’s high expectations have such a big impact on their child, if you are following their orders, it is a great example that you’re doing your best and you’ll have a developmet to yourself, but it gets worse if you’re only doing it because your parents said so.
- better to think before doing something because you might regret it later.
- always consider the feelings of others.

What an excellent book, the synopsis on the back sparked my interest but the simple love between Philomena and Rio was magic. Kate Perry is a very talented writer in that she draws you into her characters. Philomena, for all her sarcastic humor and MacGyver-like mentality was a pleasure to read (or listen to, since her story is in the 1st person narration).
Usually i am skeptical of 1st person narration, because to pull it off the author has to work to make the voice of the character not only authentic and believable, but also relateable. Not many authors can do this (especially in a romance novel)without making me wish to see another character's point of view. Perry obviouly knows her strenghts because i could not picture an outside voice telling Philomena's story.
This book was really good in that light, sarcastic (what more could you ask for), sweet, close my eyes and smile to myself, sort of way. i love how the characters seemed to jump out at me, and how some were just perfectly exaggerated because again they are shown from Philomena's perspective (who definitely overreacts. who doesn't though?).
This novel also did something different from other romance novel which i found refreshing, Perry shows that novel love does not have to be over the top fancy, or melt into a puddle of tingles sickening. The way Rio loves Philomena is just good and comforting, not TOO good to be true. But you'd have to read it to find out what I'm talking about.

Sassy, sexy, snarky... I loved this book. This was actually an ah-ha moment for me! I realized I would love everything Kate Perry writes. Her female characters are just the kinds of women I'd love to know in real life, so getting to know them through her books is so fun!

Mena makes some bad decisions, which equal some hilarity and sexy fun. And, when she decides to date her ex's best friend to lure her ex back...things get complicated. Especially since her ex has found true love with someone else.
Definitely a fun book for contemporary romance readers. If you haven't read Kate Perry, and you don't mind a female protagonist who's sassy and full of bad decisions, this one's for you! Super fun :)

I fell in love with this book instantly. Philomena is such a hoot. I was laughing so hard with some of her antics. She is real, with real-life issues like younger sister syndrome and anyone with a sister older or younger can relate to that. Her love for Rio and dislike for Barry, Rio's friend and her ex made those awkward situation hilarious.

Philomena is a great character! She's funny, headstrong and full of fire. I loved this story and laughed all the way through it. It's entertaining to read about someone who thinks they are doing the right thing, but just keeps making a mess of things. Sometimes those bad choices lead us to the right one. If only we'd listen to that little voice a little sooner.

Cute book I have read all of Kate Perry's books and enjoy them this was no exception. I do wish she would get to the steamy stuff sooner and give us more. Right when it gets good the book is over but I enjoy the ride :)

This is one of my all time favorite romances! It's a quick, easy, FUN read. Mena is a great character and I wish she was real so I could be her friend! And don't get me started on Rio... DAY-UM! Love this book!

Poorly written chic-lit. People don't fall in love in a week, and good books should not read like porn. Editing mistakes throughout the book, too!!

This is one of Kate Perry's good books. There is a great story line which keeps you interested all the way through the book. I like and recommend this book of the series.

Love Kate Perry. This did not disappoint. Wish I had read it prior to reading Playing Doctor...but it wasn't bad to go and read this second. It gave definite insight.

Perfect for a weekend or vacation/beach read. Wish I had known this book preceded Playing Doctor though, since I read that first and then realized it was Mena and Rio's story.

Philomena redeemed herself, but for me, a little too late in the book. She got off the hook really easy.
