For such a quick and easy read this book is not simple, it has many facets that will make reading (and re-reading) it enjoyable to anyone. While the main plot is the developing attraction of spunky (but bratty) Lucy to that of popular, hardworking and handsome Justin, there are a number of other subplots that keep the reader captivated, forcing you to read "just one more chapter."

This was one of the most beautiful books I've read. Lucy's story changed with every twist and turn of betrayal, love, and regret. I constantly felt bad for her because of the horrible things would happen. Somehow though, I knew it would turn out okay in the end. As I have said before I have kind of gone off YA and I hardly read them unless they are dystopia or fantasy which is again still on rare occasions.But I thought I would give it a shot and hope for the best.

When I started reading I did read slow because the main female character called Lucy was incredible immature and made such poor, stupid choices and I just wanted to scream at her to open her eyes!! It was pretty typical teenage behaviou 3.5 - 4 Stars!!

When I started reading I did read slow because the main female character called Lucy was incredible immature and made such poor, stupid choices and I just wanted to scream at her to open her eyes!! It was pretty typical teenage behaviour and also we see aspects of bullying, peer pressure and much more. I thought I would hate her by the ending but was pleasantly surprised because I ended up liking her.

Lizzy Charles did an awesome job on this book and I think it really did portray the phase we all go through where we are hormonal, say things we don't mean and ignore anything parents try to explain to you because you are way 'cooler' than them.Like obviously they don't know whats going on right? The author really portrays all the frustration and mood swings, all them feelings so well, how at that point we want to make our own decisions and be all grown up.

Oh and Justin, awww Justin! I liked him right from the start and obviously stupid, weirdo Zach was no match for Justin! I loved how Justin wasn't just the typical popular guy that had a string of girls he had slept with and so on. Aww he was sweet, cocky, funny and all out what Lucy needed in life. He was a lot more grown up than her, tough times changed him made him grow up. He seemed to see right through the fake Lucy to who she really was, even when Lucy herself didn't know who she was.

I wanted to know a bit more about the basketball bullying part and can't wait to see how the next book turns out.A very good job on Lucy's character development she really grew up and changed in a positive way.

Oh and look at the pretty cover!! If you are looking for a sweet, cute, teen romance with a lot more, then this is definitely a book for you!

Oh my holy cuteness! What an adorable read with a droolable boy (gah... Justin, you are mine!) and a wonderful book for teens. (And YA old lady fans like me :))

I still don't know whether I loved or hated this book! There was something about it that I didn't like and then there were a lot of things about it that I did like! It started to get better as it progressed and by the end I did really enjoy it, but I felt at times that it went a bit slow! The plot developed nicely in some places, but slow in others and sometimes I felt myself losing interest a little! The plot was r "You are effortless for me to love. I didn't like that the two main characters relationship took so long to develop though! As the book developed the sexual tension between the two characters started to heat up, but it took until the end of the book for them to admit their feelings for each other and for their relationship to fully develop! The plot was really good though and there were some scenes that were really gripping and left me desperate to find out what was going to happen next! The characters were great! Lucy was the main character and for quite a lot of this book I didn't like her! I found that she was quite rude to her parents! I would honestly never speak to my parents the way she did, but in a way I could understand why she did as she was in a dark place! She had her parents pushing her, a best friend who was using her and Lucy was still trying to find herself in it all! My heart did break for her as the book progressed and she started to lose everything! I fell in love with Lucy though in one particular scene near the end of this book! Throughout this book, Lucy grew so much! She had changed so much since the beginning and she was like a different, better person at the end! This was because of Justin! He taught Lucy how to be a better person and I completely adored him for it! Justin was the love interest of Lucy and he was such a sweetheart! The little things he did for Lucy made me smile! Justin taught Lucy a lot and they made such a cute couple! I could tell that Justin had feelings for Lucy as soon as they stated working together, but it took him ages to admit his feelings for her which annoyed me as I would have loved to have seen their relationship develop a little earlier and then see it develop even more! There were quite a few other characters in this book as well and they all added so much to the story! There were some good characters and some bad characters, but they were all amazing! I know that this book is a standalone as everything was fully resolved and the ending was beautiful, but I wouldn't mind reading another book or a novella to Lucy and Justin's story! Slowly but surely, Lucy gets to know the ins and outs of Justin. The more she learns, the more her image of him changes—for the better! Her annoyance with Justin slowly diminishes and emotions she can’t control continue to grow despite all her efforts to deter them. Will Lucy listen to her head and be able to write those feelings off or will Justin make her see that there are some things in life that doesn’t suck?

What a novel to debut with, Lizzy! I loved the story and definitely had a few late/sleepless nights trying to finish it! It touches on a few very real themes (bullying, mental health and growing up just to name a few) which make the book very relatable.

I definitely enjoyed watching the summer unfold as one of self-discovery for Lucy. She goes through her ups and downs to amend broken relationships, forge new ones and in doing so, learns a whole lot about herself during her healing process. It’s fun to see Lucy slowly come to the conclusion that everyone else can see from the first chapters!

The characters introduced in this novel leave more stories to tell--*hinthintnudgenudge*!!

I read this book blind, didn't read the blurb, didn't know what it's about, and I'm happy I did! It's an easy heartwarming 5! It is a beautiful story and I would recommend to all especially the young adults.

EFFORTLESS WITH YOU is a beautiful story about Lucy, a young girl who reinvented herself after a year of constant bullying. Unfortunately, the transformation from bullied basketball player to popular party-goer comes with consequences. A nicely-written YA book that explores not only the obligatory romance, but also issues of self-esteem, parent-child relationship and friendship. This is a sweet, heart-warming tale that combines genuine characters with the real-life teen emotions of love, self-discovery and heartache. The characters come fully realized off the page and the story winds its way softly to a sweet and plausible resolution. I was lucky enough to read this just before it went to print, and the easy to read prose and effortless style make this a very compelling read. If you like romance sprinkled with teen angst, this is definitely one worth reading!

I think this book is fantastic. I started and finished it in one day. I had to. Lucy is such a well developed character and the secondary characters surrounding her were fabulous as well. The pacing was spot on.

Justin is a typical YA guy, yet so much more. His hotness and popularity are what make Lucy dismiss him as just another guy not worth her time. Justin's many layers surprised me, as does it surprise our leading lady.

When Lucy was a freshman in high school, she suffered some intense bullying because of her athletic ability and the fact that she was better than the senior girls. It was awful for her, and coupled with some "mom issues," her already low self-esteem hit rock bottom. Enter Marissa, who "saves" her and "transforms" her into the image that Marissa wants her to be, which isn't necessarily a good thing. After her grades dropped and she gets in trouble one too many times, Lucy finds herself with a job, arranged by her parents, for the entire summer. Who she wasn't expecting to find sitting behind the wheel of the truck she was picked up in for work was Justin, the most beautiful, cocky, popular, aggravating boy ever, with eyes that you could lose yourself in for days. While other girls swooned over him, Lucy was determined that wasn't going to be her. As the summer progresses and she and Justin get to know each other, she begins to see him for who he really is, and her heart begins to betray her. He's nothing like she thought he was, and that makes it even harder for her to know that they will never be anything more than friends. After all, he doesn't see her in that way, he has a girlfriend, and there is no way he would be interested in her, is there?

Effortless with You was a great YA romance. Though the plot is good, it isn't unique, but the character building was superb and really set this story apart from being just another cute YA romance. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Lucy's character grow and come of age. She dealt with some really hard, really tough things. She was naive about a lot of things, especially regarding Marissa, Marissa's motives, and her boyfriend, but she also came to possess a wisdom and strength by the end of the novel that were beyond her years. She has issues that are centered around her and her mom's mental status that go back to early childhood, which have deeply scarred her, and I was really touched as they worked through this over the course of the book (and it wasn't easy by any means). She met a really great group of guys, who she worked with, and I just loved them all, especially Alex. Then there was Justin - swoon - he was such an amazing guy. He could come off as a jerk, at least in Lucy's mind, but he was really great underneath. I just loved him. Their's is not a love at first sight relationship by any means, and it was really great watching them as they progressed from not getting along, to friendship, to even more. Lucinda didn't always handle things in the best way and messed up a lot, but she also grew tremendously. I was almost like watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly. Overall, this is a wonderful YA contemporary romance, and if you enjoy that type of story, then Effortless with You is something I most definitely recommend checking out.

As a result, Lucy hasn't had that nurturing and special bond that often makes the difference between self-confidence and withdrawing when life becomes overwhelming. Now, at sixteen, she thinks she's turned a few corners. She has a glitzy best friend, Marissa, who took her on as a rehab project, and a hot boyfriend, Zach. Unfortunately, Marissa is really a self-centered manipulator who sees her more as a toy she can twist and turn, while Zach is a horndog who spends most of their time together trying to get her to do things she's not ready for, or texting his soccer buddies. What Lucy desperately wants to believe is a cool social life, is really an failing attempt to fit in and be cared about.
When she sneaks out to go to a pool party with Marissa after being grounded, her mom shows up and not only embarrasses the heck out of her, but issues an ultimatum. Lucy will get a summer job to help her learn responsibility. Too bad Mom can't see just how hurting her daughter really is.
When she's picked up for her first day of work as a painter bu Justin, perhaps the hottest and most popular guy at her school, sparks fly and there's lots of snark between them. Lucy is sure he's smug, self-centered and shallow. Justin doesn't do much to change her mind at first, because he has reasons why he doesn't want her to know the real person behind his public image.
Working on his painting crew is more than interesting. Lucy faints because she's too stubborn to avoid dehydration, catches Marissa and Zach making out at the pool in the complex she's painting and falls from a ladder when Justin is too stubborn to get the crew to safety when a wild storm approaches.
As the summer progresses, she begins to realize a number of things. She's more her own person than she thought, Justin is a much nicer and more complex guy than she realized, her mom can't help being depressed and she misses basketball a heck of a lot more than she ever thought she could.
This started out feeling a bit cheesy, but quickly turned into a very absorbing read. Mature teens who have experienced confidence issues, betrayal, attraction to someone who turned out to be a lot more than meets the eye and those who have experienced family mental health issues will all like this book a lot. ...more

It's not simply light fluff--there are some good lessons for teen girls in how easy it is to get wrapped up and lost in the desire to become popular and be accepted (don't even get me started on Marissa and my disgust for her). This book had my emotions all twisting and turning and I loved it! Lucy the girl has balls, "no. That wasn't your place. Do you think you're like a god or something? 'You deserved to know.' The first thing I have to say is WOW! It's so hard to find good romances that aren't full of trash slinging and overly sexual scenes. Lizzy's done a great job of bringing out the romance without adding the smut. I think I smiled through the entire thing. Justin is so cute, and such a great guy. Talk about a real hero! This is the type of book I want my daughter to read when she's older so that she can know what true love and romance is.

Interesting read. It took me a bit to warm up to Lucy, but I think that's b/c she was more real teenager and less literary teenager (ie she had issues with her parents and still behaved unreasonably to my adult mind). But she grew up in the story, and it was believable and I rooted for her the whole way. It was really more of a coming of age book, with only a side note of romance.
