This book is a shining tribute to the inspiration that music teachers can bring into the lives of their students. Teachers give much but often receive little in return. Appreciation of your efforts may not come until decades later when a former student says, 'I'll never forget how it helped when you said....'. You are amazed but humbled by the sheer power of a few ordinary ...more

Where was this book when I was just starting as a studio music teacher? Unfortunately, Ruth Bonetti had not written it yet. But even now that I have been teaching for years, I found many pearls of wisdom I can certainly use in my teaching.
As a studio teacher I often feel isolated from colleagues with whom I can share struggles and challenges. This book provides some very good input in those challenging areas, and also assures me that other teachers struggle with many of the same issues.

We gave this book to my childrens music teacher, Karen Kelly, for Christmas and she told us how much she loved it. She said she got so much out of it and has already used some of the tips in there. She wrote this:
'Ruth Bonetti has written a book that not only demonstrates the value of music tuition but offers invaluable advice on how to run a private studio. No matter how long you have been teaching, you will find something in this book that will enhance your experience. Thank you, Ruth, I will

Ruth Bonetti has a wealth of experience and knowledge to draw on, and in this latest book she shares practical solutions to some of the most vexed

Ruth Bonetti brings her years of experience into Sounds and Souls to create a wonderful guide for music teachers, new and experienced. When reading Bonetti's work, there is no doubt she has a passion for teaching as it shines through on every page.

In my opinion, teachers don't get the credit they deserve. They don't only change our lives, they become a part of them. They are some of our biggest influences from such a young age. But how do teachers deal with parents who have high expectations?

A comprehensive collection of information, tips and techniques for music teachers from a practising teacher and performer. In a practical and straightforward way, Ruth Bonetti covers every aspect of the music teaching enterprise, from running a business (insurance, fees, lesson agreements) to managing yourself (health, relaxation, maintaining energy levels), to managing students (developmental stages, motivation, special needs) and their parents. The book is well organised and easy to read, ...more
