#1 New York Times bestseller Brandon Muller launches a brand-new multiplatrform phenomenon. Four children separated by vast distances all undergo the same ritual, watched by cloaked strangers. Four flashes of light erupt, and from them emerge the unmistakable shapes of incredible beasts -- a wolf, a leopard, a panda, a falcon. Suddenly the paths of these children -- and th ...more

Talk about creative! My brother and I've both been big fans of Scholastic's multi-author series, and this one, Spirit Animals, is no exceptions. Let's have my ten-year-old brother take it away first:

This book was just so... COOL. The main characters got the Fallen Four spirit animals, which is so cool. They each had better spirit animals than other people, which is r
I am a fan of brandon mull. His writing is simple and enjoyable. It was same here. This is a childrens fantasy novel. Nothing more nothing less.

My rating might be slightly biased. :-)

This series has everything going for it in terms of marketing: famous children's/YA authors, slick site, fast release schedule, corresponding computer game. Although I wasn't thrilled with the 39 Clues series, this sounded like something my kids would like, so I requested them from our library.

But the series just doesn't have any pull - for me OR my kids. Aside from the fact that the whole series structure seems gimmicky (it never feels right when it is a publisher's idea instead of an author's)
Wild Born - 4 Stars This is as really great adventure book. It's been on my Arc list for a while and I'm glad I finally gave it a chance. Each character has their own unique attributes. Rollan is shifty but funny and ready to jump into action. Conor is going to be the brave one who holds everyone's morals up and keeps them honest. Meilin is kind of a bitch to Jhi but I almost see that she's had a lot of pressure on her from her father on her to succeed. Abeke is still kind of a mystery, but she' ...more

My 10 yr old says that this is one of the best books he has ever read. And while I can't agree with him I do see the appeal. It still bothers me that these adventure books put such young children in such mature settings that include violence. I'm glad that I am reading along with my son so that we can talk about it together.

I really enjoyed Wild Born (Spirit Animals #1). It moves at a quick pace, getting to the meat of the story within a few pages with a surprising depth considering the shortness of the book. The four main characters are fun to get to know, each one with their strengths and weaknesses.

Conor, who comes from a sheep-herding family is shocked when he bonds with a wolf. He is even further stunned when he discovers that it isn't just a wolf, but Briggan, a Great Beast, who'd fallen in battle long befor

My two star rating should not reflect on Brandon Mull as an author, I really like his books and usually give them a four or five star rating. I'm rating the Spirit Animals series, it's going to be like 39 clues, with each book having a different author. This book was able to establish the characters, go on one adventure, and then it stops. I was really disappointed in this book, I bought it at my kids' school book fair because, one it was by Brandon Mull, I thought it was his new series and not ...more

Good middle-aged book. Basically, the book was about four kids. At the age of eleven, as is customary in this magical world, each partakes of a nectar that determines whether or not the child will summon a spirit animal. The animals become connected to the child, and they can lend them strength when needed. The four main characters summon the Four Fallen, a wolf, falcon, panda, and leopard. These magical beasts have not been seen since the last great battle of the world. They signal

Shouldn't really give it a star rating, I suppose, since I couldn't make it past page 33. I didn't like his last book, and I'd never have picked this one up if two of my favourite authors weren't writing the next two books in the series.

So what happens in the first three chapters? A boy who shows no spark of predator summons a Wolf. A girl who can catch prey during the drought (her logic seems sound) is told off by her Dad for plot purposes, apparently, because in a real drought you don't have

It was the day that Conor, Abeke, Meilin, and Rollan turned 11. Four kids from lands far apart from each other all turning 11 on the same day. Not really a big deal right? Wrong! When a child turns 11 in the world of Erdas they get a chance to summon a spirit animal. If they are meant to have a spirit animal, it comes out of nowhere and forms a bond with the child forever. The bond gives the child and animal great powers. These four kids summon the great legendary animals that were killed in bat ...more

Carino, carino, carino!

3.5 stars to Brandon Mull's latest book that will be out September 2013! This book reminded me a lot of the Golden Compass series with the kids and the animal connection but Brandon did make it his own. Also I think that elementary aged kids are going to love it! This book is about four kids in the land of Erdas who drink a ceremonial nectar and each find themselves with an ancient spirit animal. There's a wolf, a bird, a panda, and a leopard. They must use these animals to hunt down a talisman ...more

In Brandon Mull's latest novel, he manages to yet again creates a new world full of magic and beauty. In Wild Born, four young kids separated by vast distances must join together. They drank their nectar, offered to all kids who are of age, and each summoned a Spirit Animal. But these where the Four Fallen, Great Beasts of legend.

I have been a fan of Brandon Mull since his Fablehaven books hit shelves. I have enjoyed all three of his series to the fullest extent and I was happy, but not surprise

I don't know how this series has bypassed my attention for almost two years. It is one of the greatest portrayals of adventure books I've ever come across. The characters, the plot, the world building were all spectacular. I was drawn in by Nicola Barber's voice and loved every second of my experience. This series is supremely underrated. I know that I've only read the first book, but I truly believe the rest of the books in the Spirit Animals series are going to be amazing. I do worry though be ...more

There are few words to describe this story. It's an astonishing fairy-tail that would charm up a three year old. This book is meant for any-one that wants to read it. Though very exiting, it is also very suspenseful, and surprisingly tragic at the same time. This book is my childhood imagination coming alive more and more with every single page. With beautiful writing, and astonishing character and action. It is very critically a fast paced Hunger Games, though not as gory and heart breaking.
A Bookworm Reading (Plethora)
Young readers should enjoy. So far I would have to say I prefer Fablehaven, but I think this series has potential. Eleven year old kids called in to save the world through the use of ancient fallen spirit animals.
Kat (Lost in Neverland)

It wasn't a bad book, but it is very, very young, and oh my god, I almost couldn't get through it, it is so ridiculously boring.

Grade 4 has a fantasy unit and are always on the lookout for books at their reading level in this genre. Nice to find a newbie that I can recommend. In the same vein as the 39 Clues series, it has different authors for each book and cliff hanger endings. The ending does have some closure but much is left unanswered so the reader will want to buy the next book. A part of me resents this gimmick and a part of me understands the need to sell more books for profit. I do think the book would work as ...more

This is another one of those books that I am reading because my son read it and wants me to read it too. It was a good start to a new middle grade fantasy series. My eight year old son loves this series and I also thought it was a good start to a new series. This is the first book in the Spirit Animals series; there are currently seven books in this series.

This book introduces us to four different kids. The first is Conor who ends up bonded to the wolf Briggan much to his surprise. We also meet
In the world of Erdas people can have a spirit animal. Usually when a child turns eleven-years-old they are able to drink a sip of Nectar of Ninanni that a Greencloak offers them. Some of those who sip the Nectar are able to reveal a spirit animal who bonds with them. Connor, Abeke, Meilin, and Rollan are from four different parts of Erdas…but they all have produced animals. And not just any animals, the four fallen animals: Briggan the Wolf, Uraza the Leopard, Jhi the Panda, and Essix the Falco ...more

I don't know how many times I have said it but I still think that most children/middle grade books are better than most YA books. It seems that majority of the books for children and pre-adolescence seem much more creative, have a better story, and much better characters.

The first book of the Spirit Animal series is proof of that. You have four kids that are placed in situations where they didn't expect. Unsurprisingly, a few of the kids are agreeable and some are not. What's great about all of

This book was really an amazing one to start off such a good series. It is about four young children trying to save their world from a time of horror and destruction. Each have called Spirit Animals who are said to be the Great Beasts from folk lore that say the beasts died long ago. However, one of them was tricked by their enemy and didn't get to join the others as expected to become Greencloaks. In this world, Greencloaks are kind of like the rulers that protect it.

Have you ever wondered what its like to have a spirit animal? Well, what if you were one of the chosen to get one of the mightiest spirit animals, also known as the beast. A spirit animal is an animal that comes back from the dead to be a pet like figure to keep you safe and have some type of power that helps you in some way. To get a spirit animal you have to drink something called Nectar. Not everyone gets an animal but if you do, you don't get to chose what you get, the animal choses you. The ...more

This book is quite outstanding. On the outside the book seems like it would seem to aim towards children, as it is about the size of a childrens chapter book, and even the art seems to have it aimed towards children. The main characters are eleven years old, to add to it. So, I approached this book with caution. This isn't a typical book for me to pick up. I figured, it's a small book, I haven't been reading that much lately, so why not use this to get me back into reading. I have to say that th ...more

I'm a fan of Brandon Mull's Fablehaven series, even if his writing style is a little too simplistic. He always manages to provide a great escape into a vivid fantasy world and deliver a fast pace and interesting enough characters. This new series, one of seven, is similar to the 39 Clues books in that it each installment is written by a different author and connects to an online experience. I'm just reviewing the book here and have no interest in the online part. The story itself is very simple ...more
