Complete Devotion to these wonderful tales of ice

So this 2nd book came as a surprise to me since I was looking forward to another whole novel. For some reason I had no clue that it wasn't. Boy was I disappointed. I loved the Age of Ice so much. Anyway what there was of this book was quite good...hence my disappointment. Why this tease? I see I'm not alone in not knowing about it's short length. Had I read this first I might have gone on to the full length book. But I'm not sure. I'd be wondering

Downloaded because it was free and it had the potential to be interesting (moreso than the novel, anyway--I admit I didn't have any intention to read the novel, and still don't). Very thin story, and neither setting nor characters are fleshed out enough to take up the slack. Bleak, bitter, pointless.

Short story, downloaded because it was free. Clearly a sales device for the full-length novel within the same universe. So much so that most of the file is composed of an excerpt from the novel, which I didn't read.

All the same, the writing is lovely, and if the novel goes on sale, cheap, I'll buy it.

It's 1814 in France. Cherie, a young performer uses her strange affliction -- she turns ice cold when experiencing strong emotions - into a stage act, summoning and "ice princess" for a rapt audienc
The novella was nice, with light tone and good payoff for its short form.

The included excerpt made me certain that I did not want to read the novel from which it was excerpted.

Wow, I feel like the only person who enjoyed this. I'm looking forward to the novel.
