Women in his bed, celebs and rockers in his chair and a killer bank account at his disposal, life is pretty freaking swell. Then she walks back into it again. With her mismatched eyes, perfect pink mouth and a laugh that still haunts him, she gave him nothing but marvelous misery. Now she wants his hands on her again. Not for pleasure, but for pain. For Ink. A bleeding heart to match the one she left him with five years ago.
Addison
She can’t forget him. No matter how hard she’s tried. The pain she caused him in the past eats at her daily, and she can’t move on with her life. But she has a plan, a hope for redemption – a way for him to take his revenge out on her flesh. But it’ll only work if he lets her inside his exclusive world, under his famous artist’s needle and into his bed—and heart-once again.
*First Ink can also be found in the Wicked Firsts Anthology releasing on August 19, 2013.*
Loved the male narrator but the female one was way too slow. Had to up the narration speed for her parts. Other than that this was a very hot and sexy novella. Love a second chance romance!
Rush and Addison fell in love during high school. Addison kind of had a rough past and spent a lot of time in foster homes, moving around a lot. She makes a dumb, seventeen year old mistake causing her to lose Rush and everything she had with him.
She spends the next five years trying to make it up to him. She writes, calls, emails.....begging for forgiveness but they all go unanswered. Rush is now a famous tattoo artist. There's a months long wait list to get in to see him....but Addison keeps trying.
Addison catches a break of sorts when she discovers that Rush is doing a tattoo convention...so she and her best friend Lisa go in hopes that Addison will get a chance to talk to Rush. Turns out Addison will get a lot more than she bargained for.
Not only does Addison finally get a chance to talk to Rush, but she gets a tattoo in the process.....and spends 24 hours naked in bed with Rush getting reacquainted. But was this just a one night thing? Can Rush forgive Addison for the mistakes she made when she was seventeen?
Frankly I thought they both made dumb choices...but again, they were seventeen. And so a part of me has to say, what did you expect?
I liked this one.....it was a quick, entertaining, HOT little read!
What's better than a free book? A free book that's also a GOOD book!!!
I need to preface my review by pointing out that "First Ink" is actually a novella. It's the first in a series of novellas in the "Wicked Ink Chronicles." And it's based on the premise that "We're morons at seventeen. We think everything we do is right-- that nothing has a consequence." The female protagonist (Addison) wronged her best friend & love of her life (Rush) when they were seventeen years old. The day after their fallout, Addison showed up at Rush's home to apologize & grovel, but he had already left town. For the next five years, he rejected all of Addison's calls, letters & attempts to contact him. This novella chronicles what happens when they FINALLY come face to face after 5 long years.... They are no longer 17-year old kids from the wrong side of the tracks. They're now 22-year olds who live very different lives, but who have both managed to improve upon their circumstances & move up in the world.
I really enjoyed this novella. Although it is short in length, I thought that the author did a wonderful job of developing each character. This book is told from a Dual Point-of-View. Many novels written from a Dual POV flop, due to the author's inability to write a distinct "voice" for each character... Thankfully, however, this one doesn't. Kudos to the author for giving each character a distinct voice & his/her own thoughts & personality traits. I'm now off to read "Shattered Ink"-- the 2nd novella in this series. And after the SCORCHING HOT love scenes in the first novella, I should probably have a bucket of ice on hand....
So to sum it up: "First Ink" had a hot guy with tattoos, a likable heroine, steamy love scenes, & IT WAS FREE!!! *4.5/5 stars*
This was BEYOND HOT.... *DROOL*... This is a brand new author for me, but you can BET YOUR BOTTOM DOLLAR that i will be keeping a look out for the next story in this series... PLEASE let it be about Vincent and Lisa.... ;)
First Ink is the first book of the Wicked Ink Chronicles and can be found in the Wicked Firsts Anthology. I first discovered Laura Wright in the Cavanaugh brothers series which is all cowboy suspense. I was curious to see how she would do with a badass group of tattoo artists. She did not disappoint. Although, if I didn't know going in that it was the same writer that wrote these two very different series I would never have linked them. They have a very different cadence and feel to them.
I know some people have issues with the first person style of writing. It's not my favorite, but I rather enjoyed it in this book. It was interesting to read what was happening from Addison's point of view and then get to see how Rush saw things.
I liked Addison as a heroine. She wasn't as strong as I normally would like, but she had a big heart and she was not afraid to admit she was wrong. I mean you have to give credit to a chick that is willing to let a man, that she clearly wronged, tattoo her just to finally have the opportunity to apologize.
Rush was all kinds of hot. I loved that when given the opportunity to finally get even with Addison in the form of a permanent mark on her body he took the high road. He was hurt so many years before by Addison. Hurt so badly that he really had no intentions of ever speaking to her again. Yet, when he chose to forgive her he was all in. From that point on, they were forever in his eyes and he was willing to do whatever it took to make that work for them. They just had to get through the rest of Addison's schooling.
This book wasn't perfect. But, it was a good start to a series that I have high hopes for. I'm pretty excited about the secondary characters and really hope to read more on them.
Sheesh, this was HOT! Quick and steamy! I wish this was just a bit longer, however, there was NADA missing. I didn't feel ripped off at all in regards to plot/story. This is a second-chance love story between two kids from the wrong side of the tracks, and how a bad choice made by one crushed the both of them. Can two hotter-than-most come together, oh YES they can, years later and find happiness? Well, you'll have to read it to find out!
This is book one in a trilogy. Oh, and it's told in a dual POV, which I love, love, love!
I adore Laura Wright, her books and her amazing characters. This book isn't like anything else of hers that I have read, Wright took a shot at present tense (which normally I don't care for)and First Person POV and knocked it out of the park. Yet again another fantastic, sexy story from one of my favorite authors. I might love Rush almost as much as I love Lucian from her Mark of the Vampire series. Though Lucian still remains at the top of my Book Boyfriend List :)
I would have loved a full length book on Addy and Rush. I really want more Rush. Tattooed sexy and sweet? Take charge, aims to please. And loved Addy like the air he breathes. Addy needed forgiveness for breaking his heart 5 years ago. Finally she gets her chance, and she isn't going away without a fight. These two together are friggin hot! I am definitely headed into the next one!
This was a great and hot short story...my first by this author. I'm not really into the whole tattoo thing, but could enjoy the story, nonetheless. I liked both characters and the level of emotion between them was palpable.

This novella is the beginning of a new series by Laura Wright and if what I read is any indication this is going to be a fanfreakingtabulous series.
Addison finds herself at a tattoo convention in Vegas in the hopes of finally being able to talk to Rush. Back in high school, Addison broke not only Rush's heart, but also her own in an attempt to find someone, anyone who wanted her. She wanted out of the low income, foster family life that she had and at the time she didn't think her best friend/boyfriend, Rush, was the ticket out. She realized very quickly that Rush owned her heart and soul and has spent the past five years trying to talk to Rush and explain.
Rush has been running from Addison and the pain of her lying and leaving him. But when she makes her way onstage at the convention, Rush realizes that no matter how much he might tell himself he hates Addison for what she did to his heart, he would give anything to have her again.
I didn't have enough of Addison and Rush. The chemistry these two had practically melted my iPad screen. They were flipping hot, but they were also very much still fighting what happened in the past and the feelings that never went away. Rush, and rightly so, tried very hard to push Addison away and move on. But for the tough guy he liked to think he was, the moment he sees her he becomes and emotional mess that just wants the only girl he's ever loved. Addison is no different. She thought if she was able to apologize to Rush, she's be able to move on with her life...despite the fact that she did still love Rush. Of course, even after she's said her peace, she can't let go of him.
Laura Wright has set the stage for the Wicked Ink Chronicles and if the characters are going to be as hot and carry the emotional baggage that Rush had, I'm all for this series and can't wait for the first book. Definitely pick this one up. It's worth it.
I'll be totally honest and say that going into this novella, I had no idea what to expect. I didn't even read the blurb. I just knew that is was about a sexy tattoo artist and Laura Wright has never disappointed. First Ink just reinforces my opinion of this talented writer, and is just the beginning of what promises to be a stunning new series.
Novella's only work for me if there is a past history between the couples and you can still feel that connection through the pages. First Ink succeeded masterfully in this. Laura Wright works her magic by packing in insane amounts of angst, lust, chemistry and need into a short eighty pages or so giving this novella a feeling of fullness but still leaving you craving for more.
Addison embarrassed and betrayed the boy she loved as a teenager and has regretted it every day since. Five years and numerous un-returned correspondences later, she finally gets a chance at redemption. But will Rush ever be able to forgive her? And will forgiveness be enough for Addison in the end?
Written in first person, the story is told from both Addison and Rush's point of view. The transition between characters was smooth and enthralling. Addison made her mistakes, as every young person does, and at the introduction to her character I wasn't quite sure how to take her. She seemed a little up tight to be a girl from the wrong side of the tracks in love with a bad boy tattoo artist, but as her character quickly developed I enjoyed her more and more with each page. Rush, what to say about him? A bad boy tattooed sex magnetic with a big squishy heart covers it well I think. You can't help but fall in love with him right from the start.
Regret, betrayal, fear, anguish, desire...First Ink is an emotionally packed novella that will hook you hard. I can't wait until I can get my hands on the follow-up to Rush and Addison's story in Shattered Ink! A short and sexy new adult contemporary romance that is sure to heat up your day!
FIRST INK is the first storyline and introductory novella in Laura Wright’s contemporary new adult Wicked Ink Chronicles focusing on the men and women of Wicked Ink Tattoo Studio. This is Addison and Rush’s story. Rush is the tattoo artist and owner of Wicked Ink and Addison is the woman that broke his heart.
The storyline follows Addison as she ventures to Vegas to confront Rush-her childhood friend, high school crush and the man with whom she has always been in love. But five years earlier, Addison pushed Rush away on the night of their high school homecoming dance and the next day Rush packed his bags and left. Five years of trying to contact Rush-to explain what had happened-has left Addison with a heavy heart. Had she truly destroyed any possibility of forgiveness from the man she has always loved?
The storyline is written from two different first person POVs-Addison and Rush. The novella is fast paced as the couple is quick to pick up where they left off years before but there is still the elephant in the room-what really happened and why? You can feel the anxiety and tension; the longing and the love. Addison has come to Vegas to apologize and in the end we are still not aware of the entire story.
We are introduced to Addison’s friend Lisa and Rush’s co-worker Vincent- there is some early confrontation between the couple’s friends and a possibility of another building storyline.
First Ink is the introductory storyline and, in my opinion, one that ends with many unanswered questions. Addison and Rush’s story feels incomplete and I hope that Laura still has much more story to tell.
Laura has always had the ability to pull the reader into the story and First Ink is no exception. It is a story of first loves, second chances and forgiveness.
Sexy and sweet! sweetsy? sweetxy? It’s well written, fast paced, easy to read making you not want to put it down, with a great back and forth between Rush and Addison.
This was a terrific find. I downloaded it for free from amazon and can’t wait to get my hands on its sequel. If there's anything to complain about is that it is too short!
The book’s summary says all you need to know. So I’ll just add that even though this tale develops in a couple of days time, it is in no way an insta-love story. They met when they were kids, they were best friends and then lovers and then Addison made a wrong decision.
She fucking murdered my heart. It still beats, but not nearly as strong. -- Rush
Even though it’s short, it doesn’t have a cliffhanger, but I still can’t wait to read Shattered Ink.
Just finished this lovely love story between Rush, a well known tattoo artist and his high school sweetheart Addison, a college student. The story was short, but was filled with some very strong emotional conversations after the two are brought together once more after five years apart.
This novella was an exciting read with a fair share of hot steamy love scenes that Laura Wright is famous for. I have a tattoo myself, so it was fun to read a story about inking. I look forward to the next chapter in this sweet love story.
This was an enjoyable read but way too short. It was under 100 pages. I'd be totally fine with it if it were a prequel to a novel but this is it. This is their story. The next book of theirs is also under 100 pages. I'm not sure if this is one of those serials or just a collection of short stories. This would have been an amazing novel. The author definitely has talent with creating characters and a story to draw in the readers but I'm not a short story girl and unfortunately that all this series seems to be. :(
"I thought I was such a badass." "You were, Ads.” Fucking hell. You were.
Addison: After five years, she can’t stop thinking about Rush and the pain she caused him when they were 17 years old. She needs his forgiveness so she can move on with her life. She and her friend Lisa travel six hours to attend Las Vegas Tattoo Convention because Rush will be there.
Rush Merrick: Tattoo artist. His life in Las Vegas surrounded by celebrities and women. Over the past five years, he has never returned a single phone call or message from Addison. However, that day at the convention she comes back to his life, but not for pleasure, but for pain, ink and forgiveness.
There are two points-of-view in this story, Addison and Rush. Addison is a brunette with long hair and pretty eyes, one blue, one green. She was a bad girl, now things have changed… She wants a stable life because she has nothing when she was a child. She lives in Los Angeles and attends to college. Rush is a sexy bad guy, handsome, tall, green eyes and short brown hair, cover in tattoos. He owns a tattoo shop called Wicked Ink. They were best friends in high school and the a couple, but a decision made by Addison changed their relationship… she broke his heart.
This book is worth reading. It’s short, fun, cute, amazing supporting characters (I love Vincent, Lisa and Janie!) and the best… there’s a hot guy covered in tattoos in it!! It is also a quick read. I really enjoyed it! I totally recommend it!
eARC RECEIVED TO GIVE AN HONEST REVIEW... In the first installment of Laura Wrights WICKED INK CHRONICLES we meet Addison and Rush. Lover from the past, who couldn't leave each other in the past.
Wright gives a twist to the high school sweetheart theme, Addison left our hero, broke his heart and humiliated him at the sametime. It was her biggest regret and mistake and she's taken steps to right her wrongs, but the Rush isn't trying to hear any of it... Until she's standing in front of him.
Rush is a big time tatto artist, who is living the life, even if it isn't with the one he can't get out of his system. But he's trying, and his distance tactics have been working, until he decided to do something out of the ordinary for himself and comes from to face with her.
Addison is willing to do just about anything to get Rush to talk to her, and give her the chance to apologize, even sitting under his needle and letting him tattoo her with an image of his choosing.
I can honest say that I enjoyed this way to much, and apart of me wanted Rush to make her suffer, but it all worked out for them. The years that were wasted I guess were enough of a suffering for them both.
The most enjoyable part of this was that it was from both of their points of view, which doesn't happen in books often and I loved every minute of it. The reactions and thoughts, the language and love, the need and want. It was amazing and short and. Wish it was longer.
Book Pages and Dripping Ink gives First Ink 5 Black Roses & I can't wait to read Shattered Ink.
This was a sexy and addictive short read about two people Rush and Addison who split when they were in the late teens and now Addison is trying to get her man back. Addison is in college and nearing graduation and Rush is a renowned tattoo artist for the rich and famous.
Appearing at a tattoo convention knowing that Rush will be there, Addison tracks him down in the hope to apologise for the past, for hurting him and hopefully set the pain in her heart free. Though when they lock eyes for the first time in 5 years, the connection is still there and just apologising isn’t enough!
Written in both characters pov, and written in a styles that puts you in the story and feel the trepidations, hopes and desires of the characters its makes this story one that you don’t want to put down and one that you wished was longer!
Very steamy in parts and maybe a little predictable, though well worth the few hours taken out of your life to read and to meet Rush!
There are other books to the wicked ink series; again I think they are short reads. Shattered Ink Rebel ink – released late 2014
Wow! For a short novella and new adult, First Ink was a steamy colder-shower needed read. The sex scenes were delicious and well written. The sexual tension was off the charts hot with a dirty talking-tattoo hero Rush.
"I could get your jeans around your ankles and fuck your soaking wet pussy with my tongue."
This was a second chance at love novel and refreshing. I do not think I ever read a novel where it was the heroine that damaged the relationship and coming back asking for forgiveness. I loved that and thought that was well played out nicely. Rush was beyond devastated that she broke his heart but felt he took her back to quickly and need more angst on his part. They had great chemistry and totally connected with them.
Was not a fan of the ending. It is not a cliffhanger but just needed more to it. First Ink was still an enjoyable read. Look forward to see how their story plays out in Shattered Ink (Wicked Ink Chronicles #2). Love the new covers.
I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
This book, "First Ink" (Wicked Ink Chronicles #1) was a very short, quick read about two seventeen year old high school sweethearts. Both, as with most teens of that age, not having a care in the world can sometimes tend to make bad choices rather than think about what they are doing at the moment.
Addison, our heroine, made the bad choice of humiliating our hero, Rush, in front of other friends. Addison realizes afterwards that what she has done was wrong and searches out Rush the next day to find he has packed up and left town.
Addison makes numerous attempts to contact Rush in vain, and after five long years, she finally tracks him down. She desperately wants the chance to meet up with him to apologize for her actions and the pain she caused him.
This book gives the POV from both main characters and kept my interest through-out this short story. I look forward to the next issue in this series by Ms. Wright, that is to be released September 30th/13. ....
What the...talk about attraction! These two were hot! I could feel their strong connection. Even with the short time provided to sell it to me, I believed it all completely. I feel in love with Rush too! Gah! I just wanted more. This story is an AMAZING outline for a much bigger/better series. If the writer would have spent a little time drawing things out and telling a little more of their story, this book would have been a favorite of mine. I am definitely going to read book 2 next, but it looks like it's short too. :( It's really a shame because I could see this series being a hit with a big following if it was a little more developed.
Laura Wright- Pull this series and develop it! It would be an enormous hit!!!
Move over MC Club books Wicked Ink is moving in. Rush Merrick is one of the most sought after tattoo artist. Every woman wants to be with him and men want to be inked by him. But Rush had his heart ripped out 5 years ago by his childhood sweetheart and he’s refused to talk to her since. Addison regretted immediately what she had done to Rush and has thought about it every day for 5 years needing to explain and apologize but Rush refuses her letters and calls. With her friend along for support she shows up at a convention he is working hoping to be able to finally speak to him. She gets that talk and a lot more. You couldn’t help but fall in love with Rush from the moment you met him. He’s the epitome of cool.. Looks like this is the first in what’s going to be a series. I can’t wait to read more and hopefully find out what really went down between Addison’s friend and one of Rush co-workers.
