I bought this book when I first started getting into yoga. I was inspired by the author's story to keep at yoga to see how it would benefit me. I really like how there are different positions indexed for different issues. Great starter book for anyone wanting to try yoga, or just getting started with yoga.

Handy Little book you can throw in your bag for some yoga at work or on the go.

Erika Dillman was an active runner before developing such a severe case of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome that she was unable to do literally anything for years, until she discovered yoga. It helped her build up strength and stamina (initially, she was exhausted after five minutes of class, but she persevered, and after several months, could participate in a full class).

Dillman spends a little time explaining what yoga is (and isn't), demystifying some myths commonly believed regarding yoga - it's not a religion, but a health practice. Then she goes on to describe some basic asanas (poses), offering tips to gain greater benefits from the poses, as well as listing several sample workouts to try at home. Includes a grouping of recommended poses according to health problems (poses listed can help alleviate said ailments), sports/activities (poses to perform before or after physical activity), and body parts (poses that will focus on a particular body part).

Essential for anyone wanting to practice yoga, whether they are a beginner, or a life-long practitioner.

This is an example of finding the right book at the exact right time. I had been away from yoga and got back into it in March. I bought this little book at a library book sale for 25 cents and it has been a great book for carrying around in my purse. I enjoyed learning how the author got interested in yoga (it was a bumpy road). I highly recommend this book to anyone who may be thinking about trying this form of exercise or someone who just enjoys reading more and more about yoga.

She has written several other "little" books and I plan on buying some of those.

This is a very handy little reference book for the beginning yoga student. The poses are illustrated well along with detailed explanations. Nothing replaces a good yoga teacher but this book is a handy tool when you just can't make it to class and need a little refresher.

Picked this up at a used book sale maybe a year ago and glad I did! Wonderful tool for this beginner Yoga enthusiast. Nice insight from author on her reason for starting Yoga and the diagrams and descriptions of positions are very good. I'm sure I will be pulling it out often for technique info.
