Blake A. Hoena grew up in central Wisconsin, where, in his youth, he wrote stories about robots conquering the Moon and trolls lumbering around in the woods behind his parents house, and the fact that the trolls were hunting for little boys had nothing to do with Blake’s pesky brothers. Later, he moved to Minnesota to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Since graduating, Blake has written more than thirty books for children, including retellings of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the Perseus and Medusa myth. Most recently, he’s working on a series of graphic novels about two space alien brothers, Eek and Ack, who are determined to conquer our big blue home.

Although it's a National Geographic for Kids book, it's full of information adults could learn from. Very well written and put together.

Non-fiction/Twin Text Entry #1:

This book is set up more like a chapter book, it is informational, explaining all you need to know about dinosaurs. It has bigger vocabulary words, and teaches kids about different kinds of Dinosaurs. It explains when dinosaurs were alive and the top dinosaurs of the time. It talks about what they eat, how they live, and what dinos were related.

I paired this book with "How do Dinosaurs Stay Friends?" By: Jane Yolen and Mark Teague. I chose this book because the kids I nanny for picked it and liked reading about the dinosaurs and their friends. It also shows little kids how to be nice and share and how to treat their friends. This is a fantasy book, because dinosaurs cannot talk, or make friends, they are also extinct.

This book would work for both Primary and Intermediate readers because if could be found interesting for second to about fourth grade.

Fiction text- How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague
These are both wonderful books about dinosaurs. Everything Dinosaurs focuses on dinosaurs and how they lived, different facts about them, and where they lived while How Do Dinosaurs Eat There Food? is more informational about proper table manners. Both books do point out that dinosaurs eat and emphasize different types of dinosaurs. While Everything Dinosaurs give more information on each type, How Do Dinosaurs Eat There Food? does have an accurate depiction of a different type of dinosaur labeled in each page.
