With all the dozens of books on prayer that I have read in my lifetime, I was a little skeptical as I began this book. I was pleasantly surprised.
This book is mainly about how to receive wisdom from God for the common everyday, even mundane things of life. I could really relate to Jane Glenchur’s stories as quite a few were revolving around her life as a stay-at-home-mom.
But her stories were not limited to the mundane things of housewives. No. There are stories from her college and working years, stories from other people and stories from “mission” trips (more like power evangelism and healing trips) to Brazil. Thus, there were plenty of true miracle stories, too.
About halfway through I flat out wept. I couldn’t relate my weeping to any story or piece of information in particular from the book, that is, from the natural. But there was something that I must have really needed! And everything felt so fresh, so real, so alive, as I read it. (By the way, I almost always consider crying to be a good indicator of a good book. That is, it affected me. It didn’t leave me neutral or dispassionate or empty of feeling. To me this is always a plus. Who wants neutral or empty? No thank you!)
As far as actual information on prayer there were a few suggestions that were mere reminders for me but quite a lot of it was new suggestions or new tweaks to try. I felt like I came away with a big list of “experiments” to try out with God, all in a reverent way of course. (As a matter of fact, she advises us to ask God for holy reverence for Him.)
I found all of the prayer information very practical, such as changing the questions you ask Him, asking Him about the timing of things, asking Him to help you find lost things etc. There is nothing too small to ask God for and neither is there anything too big to ask God for.
Also included was guidance on getting confirmation that you are really hearing from God and on avoiding deception. Much needed inclusion.
The entire book felt extremely uplifting and there is sure to be at least one little suggestion on prayer that you’ve never thought of before. If you love prayer or just want to learn how to get started in prayer you will love this book. This book is definitely a “keeper” for me!
Please note that this book is talking about “conversational” prayer, that is, when you talk to God silently in your mind and hear God answer you silently in your mind with words or pictures. It is not about “contemplative” prayer where you focus on a few words to the point of altering your state of consciousness (in essence, a mantra) nor is it about believing that God only speaks to us through the direct reading of His Word.

7 Secrets to Power Praying How to Access God's Wisdom and Miracles Every Day By Jane Glenchur Publisher: Chosen Books
At first I was unsure about another book on prayer. It is however a practical reminder about prayer, particularly developing a conversational prayer that is covers every area of every day of your life.
Seven secrets is broken into three parts. Firstly “Partnering with God”. Glenchur encourages up when we come to God in prayer it shouldn’t be with requests. Instead of being a shopping list, it should be a time of engaging with God. She goes on with five keys to prayer: Petition, Passion, Presence, Preparedness, and Perseverance.
The second part outlines and teaches how to apply, the seven secrets to power praying for more abundant living: say yes first; turning miserable circumstances into blessings; tap into Gods heart; Toss the pros and cons list; know when to give up; open locked doors; and employ the power of testimonies. The final part is about going to the next level.
The book is full of practical examples and stories about how Glenchur and her family use conversational prayer throughout the day.
The book is a great reminder about what we already know, that our relationship with God is central to change, and prayer is the communication tool we use to see impact in our lives.
I read this book back in 2014 and it helped me as I was a new Christian. This time around as I am seeking Christ as a more mature Christian, I am thankful to read this from a different lens. Thanks Dr. Glenchur
What I love about this book is that it emphasizes that prayer is simply a conversation with God. The author backed her points with scripture and I'm more encouraged to talk with God about the "small" things in my life. #relationshipnotreligion
This is a great book that is easy to read and gives some very good suggestions about praying. The author is a Christian, a wife, a mom and spent eight years as a practicing physician. At the urging of God, she gave up her practice, and her family’s guaranteed financial freedom, to follow a new path. This book explains how she heard from God clearly enough to change careers.
Dr. Glenchur states that using her suggestions has brought her into a very close relationship with God, and that she can hear His voice. She emphasizes that anyone can have the kind of relationship with God that she does. The author gives very interesting examples from her own life. Dr. Glenchur includes instances when she did follow what God told her, and times when she did not. She includes what happened when she did, or did not, heed God’s direction.
The book is divided into three sections. The first part, “Partnering with God,” helps the reader get their heart and mind ready for a new experience. The second part, “Applying the Seven Secrets to Power Praying,” explains the steps and uses them to enhance one’s prayer life. The third part, “Stepping Up to the Next Level,” contains more details of putting these steps into action. There is also some discussion of potential road blocks that could be encountered, as well as, possible solutions.
I really liked this book, and enjoyed the author’s easy way of writing. Reading this book felt like I was talking with a good friend. I believe she gives very practical advice about how to improve prayer life, along with enriching your connection with God. Her ideas are easily incorporated into the reader’s daily walk with the Almighty. Dr. Glenchur was very transparent with examples she gave from her own life, and that made her suggestions very authentic. The author also gave advice to consider when prayers aren’t answered. I think anyone who wants to experience more of what God has for their life, and a deeper relationship with Him should read this five-star book.
The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book through Chosen Books and Bethany House Publishing for the purpose of review. All opinions expressed are my own, and I have not been compensated in any other manner. Despite my receiving the book free, it has not influenced my judgment, and I have given an honest opinion.
this is an excellent book on developing a relationship to God in prayer for seeking direction and making decisions. Her seven secrets are spiritually insightful ideas, like being obedient to God's will and allowing Him to change our hearts and minds. She has included a section on learning to hear the voice of God and another on how to start our days hearing from God. Glenchur has good teaching and great stories that are short and illustrate her points well. For anyone wanting to have a close relationship with God, this is a book that will encourage and get you on your way. It is written from the viewpoint that God is certainly doing miracles today and that He is active in peoples' lives. See my full review at http://bit.ly/PcvbaH. I received a complimentary egalley from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

7 Secrets to power Praying was an interesting read; certainly made me think about that power of positive thinking, and the concept of 'giving it up' to in this case God, or more widely, a higher source.
Initially there were some great ideas and tactics to employ to strengthen faith, however as the book went on, the examples and situations described became more and more far-fetched, and really just described how the author was able to manifest multiple positive things in her life simply by 'giving it to God' and praying. The book ended up being more about these many stories, than it did anything else, which was disappointing, as reading these stories didn't help to teach me any skills that I could use.
7 Secrets to Power Praying does a great job of telling us what we already know to an extent - that our relationship with the Lord and our communication with Him through prayer is paramount if we want to see real change, real miracles and experience the real impact that the Lord has on our lives.
We are reminded that He is a living God and that He is ultimately in control and that through faith, praise and prayer our lives can forever change for the good as the Lord works in our hearts. Only He can answer our prayers and this book tells us that living in prayer is the best way to encourage our relationship with the Lord. Teaching us that we need to have faith in God for everything, big or very small, if we leave it to the Lord and actually obey His responses we will always reap success!
I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
This book is amazing! I think that this book came into my life at exactly the right time. The author explains how little or big miracles can happen by praying the "right way". I think that this book is very inspirational and gives a lot of details as well as great examples of the "power" that each person can achieve. It's the special bond that we create with our FATHER that makes us believe in miracles. Miracles happen every day and we need to open our hearts and our minds to let these gifts in. I wanted to say thank you to the author for choosing me to read this book. This book is a must read to help you with your life's journey.
We found this book to be enlightening and uplifting with practical real life examples to back up everything the author was telling the reader. Prayer does make a difference and even saves lives. We bring everything to God in prayer and believe firmly He will never place more than we can handle on our plates. No matter how difficult things seem there is always brightness in the future. This book reinforces our beliefs and makes a wonderful gift for those who might need the same. An ARC was provided by Chosen Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Review by Amanda & Family.
It is a practical and helpful guide. It made me laugh and cry in parts. But it left me with a lot to think about and mediate on. I have always struggled to pray, but reading this makes me feel like this is common and I can make practical steps to make it better.
Great book. Great to always be in communication with God, getting the right decisions for all we do. This saves time, money and peases the Father to have his best at all times.
