I wouldn't consider myself a foodie but I fell in love with this book. I loved the premise of celebrating not only the special occasions in our lives but the everyday events that bond us together as a family. Karen and Glynnis have put together a book that celebrates the big things and the little things in life.

The ideas for each celebration are very doable. In an age of overblown parties it was refreshing to read about simple ways to make lasting memories with those you love. As I said I'm not a foodie so I appreciated that the recipes included were doable for the average cook. In fact I would categorize most of the recipes as comfort food. Not because they will pack on the calories but because they will evoke warm memories when you think about gathering with your loved ones and ingesting the delicious dishes.

Sprinkled throughout the book are little stories from other contributors about personal celebrations from their families. I think that my absolute favorite is Siblings' Night which is from Karen Ehman. I have three children that are very close and this story just touched my heart because it reminds me so much of them. Let me leave you with the details of it:

"For the first decade of parenting, we lived in a very tiny home. All three of our kids, ages two through nine, shared the same bedroom. A triple bunk bed and one shared dresser meant big sister had little brothers' Hot Wheels and Batman PJs right alongside her sparkly lip gloss and jewelry box. When we were finally able to move into a bigger home with two bedrooms for the kids, we thought they'd be thrilled. But while they loved the look of their individual rooms, when nighttime came they wanted to be together. In fact, for the first month or so the boys dragged their pillows and blankets into their sister's room and slept on her floor!

We noticed that the kids had a little routine to their nighttime activities. They'd get drinks of water, Kenna would read the boys a story, and then she would sing them a song from our church camp called 'Goodnight Boys, Sleep Tight Boys.' That tradition was something they didn't want to give up!

Our living situation eventually morphed into everyone in their own rooms. However, a few nights every month, until our daughter moved out at age eighteen, they would hold Siblings' Night. They'd fix a snack and retreat to Kenna's bedroom to watch a movie with NO PARENTS ALLOWED. Then the boys would sleep on her floor and she would lull them into dreamland by singing her goodnight song.

Even now, when she returns for a holiday from her home five states away, you will find the tradition of Siblings' Night taking place in our guestroom--with her on the twin bed and the big, strapping, teenage boys on her floor!"

I encourage each of you to get a copy for yourself and your loved ones and then spend the next year, and years to come, celebrating the everyday lives of your family.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

People: this book. THIS BOOK. .......was pretty awesome :) But before I even get into my review: please, please, PLEASE buy a hardcopy and NOT the ebook version! This was my one large complaint: the Kinde format was all messed up. Perhaps the Nook could handle it better? Either way, to get the full effect, and to ensure this book is actually utilized: buy a hardcopy. I'm thinking I will still go get one so I can easy flip through the ideas and have quick access to the recipes. If you are one of those strange people who enjoy reading cookbooks in ebook form and hardly ever try the recipes, then by all means.

But this book is chock full of ideas and recipes that should be used! The first part of the book touches on celebrating the everyday and birthdays while the second part moves throughout the entire year. Here we hit the bigger holidays like Easter and Christmas, but they also highlight 'lesser celebrated' holidays like Book Lover's day, Arbor Day, and Johnny Appleseed Day. They provide their own ideas on how to make each day special, but also include blurbs from other ladies.

I am the type of girl who loves a good celebration and fun tradition. I was also searching for ways to make the hum drum every day more special. If you are in the same boat, I recommend checking out this book. I haven't read anything else like it (if you have, let me know!) and am betting you will find it a neat read as well. I'm rating it 5 stars for usefulness, fun factor, and uniqueness. One of my faves of 2014 so far!

I received an ebook copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I will premise this by saying I've been looking for opportunities to diversity our cultural understanding through food (cultural feasts, so to speak). For my purpose, this book fails miserably. Nowhere in the description or the title does it explain that this book is for Christians, and how it's possible to inject the Christian belief into every holiday or activity, regardless if it's secular. This might be what others are hoping for, but it was not what I was looking for.

I gave this a one star because suggestions included pushing your beliefs on others. Which is again, not what I was aiming for in trying to find ways to consider diversity through food. And again, maybe that's what others are looking for. I would suggest the title be "Everyday Confetti: A Year-Round Guide to Christianizing American Holidays and Special Occasions".

Otherwise, the book seems easy to read and well organized.

EDIT: I should also mention that the book did not claim to cover diverse holidays and occasions. It was just one of several books I picked up; I just felt really disappointed based on the promise of the title.

I love this book! Full of great ideas to celebrate every day of the year with your family and friends! Wonderful for those who have children. Many ways to teach them traditions, history, and character. Wish I had had this when mine were young! Photos, recipes, poems, instructions, and details for all of the ideas. These authors have thought of everything. Fun to read, fun to use! Great book for using as a gift, too. I highly recommend!

A fun, inspiring, quick read with practical suggestions and many simple recipes that caught my eye. Note that it is obviously religious (Christian), which I didn’t expect. A good reminder to celebrate every day and find lots of ways to connect with others and with God.

Making Ordinary Moments Extraordinary

In their book “Everyday Confetti: Your Year-Round Guide to Celebrating Holidays and Special Occasions,” co-authors Karen Ehman and Glynnis Whitwer set out to help readers to not only make holidays special, but to make everyday moments extraordinary. After all, “Everyday moments are the ones that are treasured in the hearts of those we love,” they claim.

Throughout “Everyday Confetti” Ehman and Whitwer seek to spark creativity and provide ideas for planning and implementing holiday and holy day celebrations with loved ones. But the authors don’t stop there. They hope to toss some confetti into everyday life, too.

According to the authors, simple moments of celebration communicate value to our loved ones and create a sense of belonging. Everyday moments are “a celebration of life, of each other, and most importantly, of God’s goodness,” say Ehman and Whitwer.

In the book, the authors cover all the major holidays as expected, but they also give great advice for finding those every day moments that can turn an ordinary day into an extraordinary one. You’ll find advice for making the most of family dinners, ways to honor special achievements with the “family honor plate,” and ways to celebrate spiritual milestones. There are also ideas for staying connected with family—like sending lunchbox notes with your children or making sure your college student feels loved. Then there are ideas for all the major holidays as well as several minor ones.

Honestly, this book sold me before I ever picked it up. The cover is bright and appealing, and admittedly, I’m always looking for new ways of creating family traditions and meaningful memories.

“Everyday Confetti” delivers. It is what it says it is—a guide to celebrating holidays and special occasions. I found loads of great ideas for simplifying holiday celebrations so I can spend more time enjoying my family. I’ve already copied several recipes onto cards to try in the near future.

I’ve also identified a few traditions I plan to begin over the next year: celebrating our name days, creating a Book of Remembrance, a stones of Jordan memorial, and starting a journal for each child where I record their personality at each particular age.

As for holidays, I can’t wait to host a New Year’s Day Open House and challenge ourselves to live out 1 Corinthians 13 in a Valentine’s Day countdown. Easter’s coming soon, and I plan to try the folded hand prayer pretzels and resurrection rolls. During the summer I think we’ll try a mystery day. Thanksgiving will see us begin a gratitude journal, and sometime over the next few months we’ll have a family meeting to discuss which Christmas traditions mean the most, which ones we can do without, and which ones we might add. That way we can simplify our Christmas celebrations and keep Christ as the center.

All I can say is this: Thank you, Karen Ehman and Glynnis Whitwer for gathering so many wonderful resources in one place and for encouraging families to keep Christ as the center of our holidays and traditions while making every day moments ordinary. This is one that will be an ongoing resource in our household.

Get a copy of “Everyday Confetti” from your local bookseller or from online retailers like Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Family Christian Stores, Lifeway Christian Stores, Mardel, and Christian Book Distributors.

I was thrilled to receive a review copy from The Book Club Network. This book is filled with ideas to make everyday moments, even weekly dinners fun and engaging for the whole family. These authors give ways to help families make a commitment to participate in eating breakfast, lunch and/or dinners together daily. This book is filled with creative ideas family members can show respect as honor is given to special days for each member to shine, be encouraged, and motivate. The ideas range from celebrating Birthdays, Holidays and everything in-between.

This is a year-round guide to celebrating life’s special moments, creating memories not only while your children are small but when they leave the nest too. These authors give ways to stay connected with family near or far. The ideas in the book are easy. There are ways shown in the book to pass on your faith too.

The authors say this, “Life is filled with moments to treasure and celebrate. Together, let’s sprinkle confetti on those treasured moments,…...”

I’m not an idea kind of person but I can follow a pattern and do my best cooking with a cookbook by my side. There are more than 200 ways to make memories with your family and friends which include “Easy recipes, fun activities and inexpensive decorating ideas – all simple and doable.”

These two authors are part of the Proverbs 31 ministry. They have quotes in the book and side interviews with other women in this organization that give a peek about special things they do with their families. For example Lysa Terkerust says this about devotions, “If you talk about God in our everyday lives it creates a sense of celebration of His presence. And that’s the best kind of family devotion there is!”

Some of the other authors that stop in are Renee Swopee, Nicki Koziarz, Sharon Sloan, Whitney Cupps, Wendy Blight and many others.

The recipes in the book have easy found ingredients and sound yummy. There are things for an Easter celebration I’m going to try this year, like “To-Die-For-Carrot Cake, Easter Cookies and directions for making an Easter Egg Tree, all of which help to bring out the meaning of Easter and other holidays. There are also ways to celebrate spiritual mile stones, ways to reach out to others in hard times and other special moments.

There’s one day I’m looking forward to celebrating on August 9th. What special day is that you ask? It’s Book Lovers Day of course! I didn’t know that day existed but with books being such a big part of my life I’m adding this celebration to my calendar. Can’t wait to try the recipe for Jane Austin Cream Scones they add to that day.

Tim Hansel’s quote is, “Life becomes precious and more special to us when we look for the little everyday miracles and get excited about the privileges of simply being human.”

I highly recommend this special book to help you and your family put fun back in life’s’ tender and special moments!

My Review:

We all know basically how to celebrate special occasions and holidays. Throw some people together, add food&decorations and BAM! You have it all ready to celebrate, right? Well not so fast! Everyday Confetti, is a new twist on a traditional concept. What about those special events you would like to honor in some way, but the only trouble is you don't know how to begin. Well now you do and the secret is all in this book.

The authors, Karen Ehman&Glynnis Whitwer collaborated on this book along with a host of many others on all of their ideas for those in between times that are so important to us that deserve some sort of celebration. The ideas contained therein are endless yet interesting. It peaked my interest so much so that I couldn't put it down. Some of the ideas just never had dawned on me. Such as the day your child or children are reborn into the Kingdom of God-should be a day of celebration. Or maybe the day you witness your child doing a good day and you honor them by letting them have their dinner on the "family honor plate".

The authors also include website information to help with some of these celebrations and some recipes have been added to each chapter. This is an amazing, yet thorough book to help you with all your celebrations whether they be traditional or not yet realized. You should keep this book by your side and let it become your go-to book for anything celebratory.

I have read quite a few books about event planning, menu planning, and recipes. Many of which I have really liked, but this book stands out above the rest because it is written with so much joy and enthusiasm that you just can’t help but feel eager to start planning yourself. It’s very evident that this book comes from very sweet, very merry hearts. The authors’ joyfulness is in every page.

In today’s day, it’s very difficult to find joy in our daily lives, mostly because we are constantly hearing and reading that routine is a bad thing in which we cannot find contentment. But in Everyday Confetti, the author’s beg to differ. They give fun, practical ideas to kick our everyday routine up a notch and make every day special and purposeful. The idea is that we don’t have to wait for a special occasion to do something special for and with our family. There are simple ideas to celebrate the small accomplishments in our lives that can be used daily to encourage our children to even look forward to (gasp!) sit at the dinner table with us or share with us more about their daily life.

The authors share with us simple ways to connect as a family and, although not all ideas are unique to this book, the way they are presented and put together give us great variety and alternatives to try and see what fits our family best. They give simple yet good ideas on how to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions that we usually celebrate at our house. However, I had never thought of celebrating a holiday like, for example, St. Patrick’s Day, but not only do they give us the story behind that day, they also give us ideas and recipes with a purpose to instill in our children the same spirit that Saint Patrick had. The same goes to other national and international holidays where the authors go above and beyond what is normally done to give them a more meaningful and profound treatment.

Now, every party or celebration needs good food, and that is not lacking in this book. For every occasion, there’s a well thought out menu to please adults and children alike. And although the recipes themselves are quite good and tasty, what I liked most and found to be very unique was that the authors gave a special meaning to some of the recipes, sharing with us how we could incorporate the spirit of the holiday, event or season in the preparation of the dish, which becomes a great teaching moment for our children.

There are also stories from other contributors and their celebrations, big or small, and traditions that were charming, heartwarming and inspiring. It just gives the reader a desire to do something new right away and the hope that whatever we do today as a family will impact our children’s life, and our life as husbands and wives deeply with something as simple as painting a plate and celebrating the person who eats from it.

With celebrations by seasons and the season’s special holidays, family events, and spiritual milestones, among others, Everyday Confetti encourages the reader to live life to the fullest, to enjoy and celebrate every moment, every occasion no matter how small. It’s full of great ideas to share as a family, to teach them to cook well, to do everything with a purpose and to inspire them with God’s Word and joy in every step, at any given moment.

It's the beginning of a new year. Why not make it a year of everyday celebrations? Authors Karen Ehman and Glynnis Whitwer make it easy for busy moms on the go that sometimes need a few ideas to pull off that perfect party or even just a perfect day. Everyday Confetti gives readers ideas about how to make every day special from the regular family celebrations like Easter and Christmas to the perfect Wednesday. With ideas for new traditions, great recipes and plenty of tips for making every day just right, this book will inspire and entertain readers who need that extra creative push.

What I liked:

Many of you know that I don't review very much non-fiction material on my blog. But every once in awhile I come across something that really gets me excited and Everyday Confetti is one of those books. Both authors are part of the Proverbs 31 ministry team and I knew this book would have a Christian perspective and have the interests of women at the forefront. I don't know about you, but sometimes I need an idea to work with when it comes to celebrating special moments in the lives of my family. We have family traditions that span generations but I want to do something special with my daughters that is just ours. Our own traditions and that's where this book comes in. It has ideas and recipes that I never even thought of before. It's nice to have a fresh set of ideas to consider.

I love celebrations of any kind. And I loved the whole idea of being able to turn other days besides those red letter days on the calendar into a party. I want my children to have special memories of things we did together that maybe everybody else didn't do. I like to be unique in that way... LOL. There are so many good ideas in this book. And the recipes are easy with simple ingredients anyone can find at the store. I don't want to be going around looking for some off the wall ingredient when I could spend that time with my loved ones.

Overall this was just a very practical guide to making holidays and everyday something special. Some people need a little push when it comes to creativity and lets face it, working moms probably don't even time to think about things like that, so I thought this was a much needed book for moms on the go.

I also loved the personal stories and experiences that the authors added from their own lives. It made me realize that I'm not the only one who wants to do things that my kids will remember a long time from now. I have those kinds of memories and I want that for them too.

What I didn't like:

It was way too short. I wanted more ideas, more recipes, more tips. Okay, so maybe I'm being a big greedy. But it was just that good.

Bottom Line:

If you're looking for inspiration or you just want to do something you've never done before. Give this book a look when thinking about celebrating holidays, spiritual milestones and even a perfect Tuesday. It's a real gem.

As I was looking through the e-mails in December for the January blog tours, I saw that the book, "Everyday Confetti," was available for review. It looked very interesting to me and I wanted to look at it closer. So I requested a copy.

I started reading through the book and was very glad that I had received a copy. I think this is going to be something I refer to quite a bit!

This is the description on the back of the book: "Everyday Confettiis your go-to guide to making holidays, birthdays, special events, and even the every day special. Inside you'll find more than two hundred ways to make memories with your family, including easy recipes, fun and activities, and inexpensive decorating ideas -- all simple, doable, and stress free."

And wait -- before you go and say "I'm not a decorator. I'm not crafty." From what I read these are all very simple and even me (who is not very crafty!) can do them!!!

The first part of the book is about everyday celebrations. There are chapters about celebrating every day joys, celebrating birthdays, spiritual milestones, ways to stay connected, and reaching out to others in hard times.

One thing I learned by this book is that there is a Name Day and you can find out when your Name Day is or the Name Day for your family members are and there are suggestions of things to do for your family members on their Name Day. If you are interested in learning when your Name Day is you can look here.

The second section of the book discusses each holiday (and not just the major holidays) throughout the year and provides suggestions of things to do and sometimes recipes to use for those holidays.

One suggestion that I really liked under the springtime celebrations is making pretzels. They mention that pretzels look like praying hands, so while the pretzels are baking, as a family decide on an individual who you would like to pray for. After the pretzels are done, pray for the individual, eat some of the pretzels, wrap up the remaining pretzels and deliver them to the individual and tell them that you are praying for them. And depending on the amount of pretzels that you have, you might be able to share with more than one person.

There are so many out-of-the-box ideas that I just love!

As someone who enjoys celebrating holidays or any other day, I was excited about this book. I was hoping to get some new ideas for celebrating all year and having someone else do the work for me! After reading Everyday Confetti, though, this isn't the book for me.

While I definitely found a few nuggets in this book, I didn't walk away feeling like I was ready for a year of celebrations. Some pretty major holidays/occasions (i.e., Easter) only offered two or three suggestions. Then there were a lot of minor or made up holidays that were listed with only a couple of suggestions that would require quite a bit of research, thought, or creativity to pull something together. Other times the suggestions just weren't that creative. For instance, the suggestion for both Black History Month and Cinco de Mayo was to read a book about the topic and learn more about the reason for these holidays—but no books were suggested, nor discussion questions or other activities to make it fun. Personally, I would have preferred a shorter list of holidays/occasions and more thorough, creative, and fun ideas about how to celebrate the holidays that were included. Since this is a Christian book, I also wished that there was a spiritual tie-in for each holiday. Some of the holidays included this type of connection, but many did not.

The three sections that were the best were Valentine's, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. These were the most complete sections and thought some of the ideas listed might be things I could incorporate into my family celebrations.

While some may appreciate this book for what it offers, I think many readers will be frustrated. People who are super busy, overwhelmed by Pinterest, short on time, and/or less creative than they'd like to be—the people I think this book is written for—will most likely be disappointed by the lack of complete information and suggestions provided in Everyday Confetti. I received a free copy of this book from Revell in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Karen Ehman and Glynnis Whitwer wrote Everyday Confetti to encourage women and moms everywhere to celebrate regularly with their families. Their book covers the major holidays, as well as many minor ones. They even include ideas for non-holiday celebrations.

This book is a great introductory book for women who want simple ideas for activities and recipes. If you already celebrate and entertain a lot, much of this book will not be quite out-of-the-box enough for you. The ideas vary from one or two for an event to several pages. Some celebrations include recipes and others merely give you some details you may not have known about the holiday (I learned a few new things about St. Patrick and the original ways to celebrate).

Since this is basically a book for beginners, I think a few photos and some ideas for decorations and more games would have been helpful. As far as the recipes, some sounded interesting, but there were a few too many calling for condensed soup for my personal taste. It also would have been nice to balance the amount of material for each holiday a little more. Some of the more interesting obscure holidays only got a paragraph, when I could think of several pages of fun things to do.

If you haven't been celebrating much in your house because you lack confidence or ideas, this is a good beginner book for you. I think you will find the suggestions will be easy enough for you to execute without a lot of stress. I hope you will use some of the ideas and begin celebrating with your children. They won't remember any mistakes. If they do, those are often the most cherished family stories.

For those of you who were born to entertain creatively, this isn't the book for you. Keep using your own ideas and Pinterest. While a little of the material would be interesting, I don't think you would find enough to justify the cost of the book.

This book was provided to me for free by the publisher in return for my honest review. It is a solid book for those just beginning to entertain, but not a favorite for those of us who entertain a lot.

I absolutely (and I mean absolutely) loved this book! I'm not a big non-fiction reader, but this a novel that I knew I had to pick up and read since I'm a huge craft lover!

The ideas, suggestions, and recipes were awesome! Everything is really laid back and pretty simple to do without causing any extra headache for the ones who want to do something special for a friend/loved one! There were even plenty of ideas about holidays that are not so popular as others such as Backwards Day, Tell A Story Day, and Book Lover's Day (This is one of my favorite holidays, but I had no idea how to celebrate it until reading this book)!

Something I really appreciated about the authors is how they included their personal experiences! It really helped me to see that I can make Easter and Christmas about Jesus while having fun AND not stressing (these two are just an example! There were many other holidays that they shared their experiences and inspired me!)! Talk about a double bonus! Also the authors not only shared some fun moments they had, but they included other people's stories as well about how they started a birthday tradition or celebrated Thanksgiving in a new way!

I very strongly recommend "Everyday Confetti" to any person who has a desire to make new fun memories with family/friends, but not sure what or how to make it happen! Through these inexpensive, fun, and easy ideas as well as good sounding recipes I can guarantee that they will not be disappointed (I plan to do many of the ideas this upcoming year and already have some recipes on my list to cook next week)!

I give "Everyday Confetti" a 5 out of 5 stars! Highly recommended!

If you love celebrating special occasions or wished you were a better party planner, EVERYDAY CONFETTI: Your Year-Round Guide to Celebrating Holidays and Special Occasions is the book for you.

This charming book offers party planning ideas for year-round celebrations. It covers the traditional holidays such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day and others. But it also highlights unique holidays, special days and events that can be turned into celebrations. Among the non-traditional celebrations are Backwards Day (Jan. 31), Tell a Story Day (April 27) and Book Lover’s Day (Aug. 9) to name a few.

There’s even a Name Day where you can celebrate your birthday a second time. According to an old European tradition, names are assigned to each day of the year. Discover the date of your name and celebrate a second birthday.

Another fun way to celebrate is to create a ‘family honor plate.’ It’s a special plate (of your design) that can only be used by the family member who makes an achievement, does an act of kindness or whatever accomplishment you decide.

With each celebration there are activity suggestions and numerous easy recipes. Each occasion gives hints, along with personal accounts of how they celebrated the special day. The book is written in an easy format with the holidays separated into seasons for year-round entertainment.

Authors Karen Ehman and Glynnis Whitwer have complied a vast array of activities and recipes that will make celebrating any occasion fun and stress-free. This faith-based book will fast become a favorite in your household and have you celebrating more throughout the year. There are over 200 ideas to inspire celebrations and create memories with your family.

EVERYDAY CONFETTI is the go-to book to make daily life a celebration.

FTC Full Disclosure - I requested this book as part of a blog tour and it was sent to me by the publisher in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review.

Who has the time and energy to plan activities and come up with engaging ideas for all the special events throughout the year? I don't see many hands raised :). Well, be encouraged; this book is every busy woman's dream resource! Everyday Confetti is a year-round guide to help us celebrate holidays, birthdays, milestones, and ordinary days. It is filled with fun activities, creative ideas, and yummy recipes. I'm excited and eager to try them out. I really like the Book Basket gift idea on page 178. This book will help you look for everyday opportunities to enjoy celebrating life, loved ones, and God's goodness. It even includes ways to stay connected with older children and children who are away at college and ways to reach out to others who are facing hard times.

Different moms share about their personal experiences. It's an enjoyable read. I also learned about some new special days I had not heard of before such as Best Friend's Day (June 8th), Book Lover's Day (August 9th), and Left-Hander's Day (August 13th). The only thing I wish it had is pictures. I'm a visual learner so pictures of crafts and good eats would be enormously helpful :). I still think it is a wonderful, practical book which I'll be looking up again and again. The ideas are doable and easy enough to follow. Every family should own this book. It will ensure you be ready to entertain and make memories on any given day. Celebrations don't have to be elaborate or expensive. You can indeed celebrate every day!

"The everyday moments are the ones that are treasured in the hearts of those we love." (p. 12)
"Our home can be a place of nurturing, a place where children grow up confident in their worth, a place where a husband feels respected and a friend feels loved, a place where God is honored." (p. 12)

Everyday Confetti
By Karen Ehman and Glynnis Whitwer

Your Year-Round Guide to Celebrating
Holidays and Special Occasions

Do you ever feel that the ordinary days get lost in the mix? Are you overwhelmed by the holidays and special occasions? Well, there is no need for it.

Everyday is special and with very little effort on our parts we can make it so. It is these little touches that stay with us throughout our lives and become the memories that means so much to us, memories that we want to share and recreate for our own families.

Everyday Confetti offers an assortment of activities and recipes that are sure to inspire your own creative endeavors. And the time saving suggestions are sure to take the stress and strain of holidays down several notches, if you are someone who has holiday burn-out. Special days are meant to be special in that we are spending time with those we love, so don't stress all the joy and wonder out of the day.

There are recipes throughout the book that are sure to tempt any palate. With a few tweaks most of the recipes can be adapted for special dietary needs (such as for vegetarians). Definitely a few that are on my list to try out for certain upcoming special days!

I really like the suggestion for carrying Christmas over to Easter with the use of your Christmas tree. This one suggestion I have never heard before, but I really like it. And it adds a unique touch to Easter, and no it is not hanging plastic eggs on your tree. Your tree is transformed into a cross, a simple yet beautiful message. I think this is the one idea that really jumped out at me as I read though Everyday Confetti.

I was provided a copy of this book by TBCN/bookfun.org and the publisher Revell in exchange for my honest review with no expectations placed upon this review.

When I saw Karen Ehman’s name on this book I KNEW it would be great, but it was better than that, it is outstanding! How wish this had been published when my girls were little! I tried very hard to make holidays special, but wracked my brain to find ways to make the many days in between them fun. This book was just what I needed! All is not lost because now I can use the ideas with my grandchildren.
This book’s celebrations did not require a lot of extra purchases and expense to carry them out. That is a plus for any family in this day and time. I especially liked that the throughout the book there was a Christian emphasis on family times spent together. The ideas were not only unique but very creative. Just the stuff great memories are made of.
Regular holidays are of course represented, with new traditions, games, and crafts. Many unusual calendar days not typically celebrated are included. There are sections on daily and weekly moments such as meal times, family night, sibling’s night, name day, spiritual miles stones, and reaching out to others in hard times. There is also a chapter on ways to keep connected with your children from the young to those heading to college.
I liked that it was divided into seasons where I can easily find what is appropriate for that time of year. The recipes are excellent, not a lot of fuss and things everyone would like, but delicious! Throughout the books are quotes, spiritual insights, and experiences of other women. This book is a keeper, and one you will want to use over and over!
I received this book free from Baker Publishing. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Everyday Confetti
By: Karen Ehman & Glynnis Whitwer

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances:
For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

I just wanted to start my review off with that verse. The authors started off with this in chapter 1 and I love all the scripture in the book. Right in the beginning reminded me of when I grew up and where Family set down at a table we held hands and bowed our heads in prayer giving thanks to our Lord. In time I see this as a thing in the pass I know in my own family we taught our children to do just this. Now they are grown and on their own with their own children, sad to say this is being not as important. My granddaughter said to me we don’t have to pray here we don’t do it in our house. She is only 3 this made me sad. I said well we still do. Little child of 3 already picking up on this. Where are our values? I just had to state this cause this hit me in the book right at the beginning.
The authors talk in the book about getting these and other traditions back in the family the book gives us different things we can look into to get the family back together again.
Bring back things to do together as a family. Games, crafts, reading, sleepovers and devotions to name a few ways to pull the family together.
There are a lot of wonderful recipes in this book also. I liked all the scriptures to go with each section. There are recipes for every special day. I don’t believe there was a special day missing. I found one I really liked “ Book Lover’s Day” August 9th. The recipe for the day is “Jane Austen Cream Scones “. I could give you the recipe but not going to! Get the book it is wonderful. Karen and Glynnis did a wonderful job on this book.

Do you enjoy a good celebration but lack the creativity or the time? Brainstorming new ideas can make planning parties a hassle, but Karen Ehman and Glynnis Whitwer have collaborated on “Everyday Confetti”, a book filled with ideas for making every holiday and special event fun and memorable.

Ehman and Whitwer have packed enough creative ideas for a calendar full of events to last for many years to come. You will make your family and friends feel special all year with ideas to celebrate friends’ day, backwards’ day, Presidents’ Day and even Election Day. There are plenty of ideas to have fun with family and friends and make delicious memories in the process. The book includes activities, games, recipes and crafts. You can make an incredible egg tree for Easter and new traditions for Christmas.

Surprise your family with some new and different recipes and create special family memories. Each holiday included has activities ranging from easy to easier. Using your imagination is allowed. You might even use some of your own variations on ideas included or find ways to celebrate other events not included in the book. With this book, anyone can be creative.

Everyday Confetti is not your typical cookbook, nor is it your typical special occasion how-to guide.

It’s a combination of the two for those of us who want to make everyday things special but who do not want to even attempt to be anything close to Martha Stewart.

I get so frustrated when I get a new cookbook or read an article about “easy” tips for your special gathering and then find out it's something that will take hours to set up (especially while caring for a kid) or that it's a recipe that requires 7 different types of fresh herbs I have never even heard of.

This book presents simple and neat ideas for lots of different occasions – ideas that just about anyone can do. The recipes are simple, too. In our family, we are just plain folk. We like simple, and this book is right up our alley. The recipes are also pretty easy to change to your liking, and the celebration suggestions are creative, yet simple and cost effective.

I will confess that not everything mentioned would be something that our family would enjoy, but there were lots of good ideas that we can incorporate into our family traditions. Because of our busy holiday schedule, we have not had a chance to try the recipes yet, but we are looking forward to doing so later this year.

For simple ways to throw confetti on the everyday, this book is the way to go.

Everyday Confetti is a lovely book full of ideas, and recipes for making a holiday or someone's birthday a little more special.

I loved the simple ideas for bringing traditions into your family, as well as the stories from mothers who found ways to make special days a little more special.

There were so many fun recipes that I am looking forward to trying, as well as great ideas for holidays that I typically ignore, like President's Day or Arbor Day.

But this book wasn't just about making certain days extra nice, but about bringing something special and fun to everyday and bringing out teaching moments in a natural way.

Overall, this was a fun book to read, with so much fun ideas for new traditions. I felt like I was on pinterest ( which I am terribly addicted to and I mean this in a highly complimentary way) with all the fun ideas and recipes yet already compiled and easy for me to find and take note of. A book that would be great for moms, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, or anyone who likes to bring light to the ordinary :)

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

This is the neatest book and I absolutely love it! Do you ever find yourself not knowing what to do for a special holiday? Well, with Everyday Confetti, you will wonder no more! This book has something for every holiday or special day you can think of, and some that you would never ever think about. Its all between the covers of this new, interesting, exciting, and so very helpful book. Whatever the day, whatever the occasion, you will find something neat and special to do here. Some things I have heard of, some things I had forgotten, some things are brand spanking new to me, and I love it all! Did I say that before? There is no way to do justice with this book with words, so I will just say go grab a copy and see for yourself how fun this book is. And you can go on some of the websites and get an inside glimpse and taste of what is in here, or if you have an ereader and want the Kindle copy, you can get a free sample to try it out for yourself. Either way, just go check it out. You will love, love is as much as me, and so many others!

WOW! This book has soooo much more than I thought it would!!! When it comes to celebrations I absolutely LOVE having family and friends come over to my house! To me, there is nothing better!
When it comes to being creative or having these great party planning ideas, I fail miserably! But I am so excited to say that w/Everyday Confetti all of that is going to change!!!

This book shares not just traditional holidays but also those that I never really thought about celebrating. You will also learn some of the holiday's history and different facts as well! You will find recipes, decorating tips, and how to plan ideas! Making memories and sharing traditions with your family is so important and Everyday Confetti shares how to do just that! I appreciate anything that encourages bringing families together and this book does that, page after page, no matter the occasion!

I HIGHLY recommend this book and would say don't just get 1, get 2 or 3 and share them with your friends and relatives! This would also make a GREAT wedding gift, a Baby shower gift, or Mothers' Day… I could go on and on :)

Thank you Revell, a Division of Baker Publishing Group for allowing me this complimentary book in exchange for my honest review!!

What a fun cover this book has! Of course this helped in my decision to read this book at first. I really enjoyed the helpful tips and ideas, I struggle at coming up with creative ideas for birthdays, holidays, or anything celebration worthy. I do with there were more pictures to go along with the ideas, I think it would have added a lot to the book. The book does not just focus the big holidays but things such as spiritual birthdays and Labor day. It takes you through the year and seasons, while some holidays have more info than others. The Christmas section was a bit disappointing to me, it only talks about Christ's birth, which is obviously important but I like to have creative decorating ideas too. There are a ton of recipes I am excited to try, the Easter section boasts quite a few. I think the thing I like the most about this book is that everything is centered around Christ and how to celebrate in a way that pleases Him. For those looking for really new creative ideas, you might not like this book as much. For those who want a more Biblical side of holidays you will like this book.

I'm not going to lie this was a pretty adorable book. I initially thought that there were just recipes in here, but there is soo soo much more. There are lots of ideas on how to celebrate the little things in life and start new traditions.

This book is mainly for Christian families (i.e. mothers and grandmothers) but never fear there is something for everyone in here. Someday far in the future when I have kids I would love to implement some of the "family traditions" she outlines (scavenger hunts on Christmas, random acts of kindness, half birthday celebrations, etc).

The recipes included also sound delightful. I really want to try out the Christmas Pistachio-Cherry Muffins, Eggnog Stuffed French Toast and Creamy Gratin of Winter Root Vegetables. They all sound so good! Each section has three or four recipes (there's probably around 50 in the book, maybe more).

Like I said this isn't just a cookbook. It's a guide for bringing families closer together and closer to God through traditions, religion, and good cooking.

I received this book for free from Revell Books in return for my honest unbiased opinion.

Everyday Confetti is a ‘year-round guide to celebrating holidays and special occasions.’ The book is divided into 2 parts, Everyday Celebrations and Holidays through the Year. The first section focuses on birthdays, spiritual milestones, and other reasons to celebrate. I had never before heard of Name Day, but it’s kind of like a birthday for each person based on their name. Holidays through the Year include all major holidays, Christian holidays, and several days I didn’t know existed. I learned several things, such as the history of St. Patrick and the fact that there are holidays for Left Hander’s (me!) and Book Lovers (also me!). This book is mainly aimed at mothers of young children and gives lots of ideas for special celebrations and traditions. Everyday Confetti also has recipes specific to holidays throughout the book. There is a strong theme of Christianity, and I think this book would be a great resource for Christian parents raising kids in the church. I would recommend that you keep it close by and use it throughout the year. [I received a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.]
