I was born many years ago in the American Midwest to a brave immigrant couple who decided to call themselves my parents. They moved around the country until they finally settled in Maryland. As a child I was always scribbling something and my family supported my efforts (with white knuckles and a lot of prayer).

After graduating from college, I worked various jobs and did some freelance writing hoping that one day my writing efforts would make me rich and famous and allow me to quit. That didn’t happen. Instead my last job was made redundant and I decided not to look for a new one. Instead I chose to live on my savings (and mild insanity) and write full time.

I would not recommend this route for other aspiring writers. Either marry well or have three years worth of salary saved. I took the risk because I wanted to and fortunately that same year I received an offer from a publisher for a two book contract–after a thirteen year effort, but that’s another story.

I usually love Dara Girard's books but this one seemed like it was written by someone else. The writing was so choppy. There was just no flow from one scene to the next. There was a sub story thrown in with a secondary character that had no place in the book. When I first started reading it I had to check to make sure I was reading the same book because it was just so out of place. The love scenes were lackadaisical and basically no existent. I am truly disappointed in this book.

What a love story. This story was heart warming. I cried and laughed. I loved Justin and Lora's love hate relationship. Justin was headstrong, stubborn and arrogant. Lora was a hurt little girl carrying the weight of her stormy childhood on her shoulders. Once the two of them got together they gave each other the strength that was needed to make it though.

This story touched my heart as I have family members sickle cell. Watching one person trying to had it from the world, while yet another wanted to do everything possibler to find a cure. Dr Rice and Dr. Silver proved to be just what the doctor ordered. To appreciate this story is to feel the pain of the person with the illness.

It was a great beginning but faltered in the middle. It seemed to me they just fell into bed rather easily. I feel like there were some steps missing. And the end was just ok. I feel like this needed to be fleshed out more. Plus their was a lot of things happening at the same time. It was ok. 3.50 stars.

Quick and easy: Lora got on my last nerve. Justin needed to grow a set. And all those damn sisters. The best part was the supportying characters, Carla and Griffin (who would have made a better story).
