5 heart-clutching stars!

I went into this book not really knowing what to expect, and I have to say it surprised the hell out of me! It’s not your average ‘boy meets girl’ storyline… ok, so that part of it is still there, but it goes so much deeper than that, and the emotion is incredible!

It is the story of Psychology doctorate student, Nessa, who, on the first day of her new job, literally runs into smoking hot Pediatric Oncologist, Dr Aron Lindstrom. With the attraction between them obvious fr
So, I'm not a big fan of stories that deal with mental health issues. I see enough of it in my line of work, either as a precipitator to an incident that lands them in the ER, or a chance finding when worked up for something else entirely.
Mental health is a sensitive topic to write about, however. There has to be attention to detail regarding it's pyscho-social impact on the individual and their family, as well as an understanding of the specific illness itself and it's treatment.

In Spiral, the

Spiral, is the story of Nessa Cavanaugh and Dr. Aron Lindstrom. On her first day as a psychology intern on an oncology rotation things go pretty bad. She makes a fool out of herself in front of one of the oncology fellows, Dr. Aron Lindstrom... by tripping all over herself and staining his shirt in the process. As if that wasn't bad enough, he's also devastatingly handsome, looks l

Okay, so in all honesty I'm a *little* tired of New Adult because they're all starting to sound the same. You know the formula: overly naive girl with some kind of damaged past falls for a guy who's even MORE damaged, but somehow he's also super sexy and dangerous and they just totally need each other. (Wait. I just described Spark. Maybe I'm not tired of that trope. :-P)

No, but seriously.

This one showed up as a Kindle recommendation and I'll admit it: the cover caught me. I downloaded the samp
I know we all have different tastes and buttons about what we want and don't want in the romance books we read.

I loved this book and thought the writing in some parts was truly beautiful! I admit that I cried at the end, doing that thing where you turn the last page and gasp when you realize that the story is finished. So, I kept rereading the last pages, grasping the fact that I had become seriously attached to Aron and Nessa. Alas, I wish them a fictional 'best wishes' and am so hap

I love the sound of this one. I'm told it's a standalone with a HEA. Added!!

She doesn't want to end up like her father, whose constant ups and downs broke her family, and avoiding unnecessary emotional entanglements is a must.

Wow. That book was not what I expected. 4.5 stars. Emotional. Not the typical story or characters.

Nessa is an intern going for her PH.D in psychology. Shes in pediatric oncology for the semester. Nessa is strong, smart and caring woman. She's been through a lot. Her father had bipolar disorder and killed hisself. Bipolar can be genetic so she lives her life and stays busy so she doesn't have to focus on the what if's. she's not mopey and annoying. She's very close to her mother and isn't some wo

When you fall in love, everything is perfect in spite of the minor pitfalls along the way. When you commit to someone for life, you are fairly confident that those minor pitfalls will be all that one must deal with, but what if you found that special someone, your other half and they were less than perfect? They truly suffer from a medical condition beyond their control, and it changes them into someone who exists more in their mind than in reality? Would you be able to handle a journey where th ...more

A great read. Sweet. Wasn't predictable like most of the NA books I've read. I didn't feel the romance was rushed, I quite liked the pace of the book. I don't think I was bored much. And for once, thank you lord, a romantic interest that isn't a grade A douchebag. Proof I needed that some people still know that a decent guy can be a sexy one too. I hope to read more NA where the male lead doesn't make me want to punch him in the face.

Completely devastating and entirely, sparklingly gorgeous. Mila's storytelling caused me literal heartache, and I adored every minute of it. This is the first book that has kept me up past midnight in a very long time. An instant favorite and highly recommended.

Unexpected. Insightful. Appropriate. Brilliant.

"Always do the thing that scares you."

OK, I totally did NOT expect that. I can't even begin to imagine!

I'm pretty sure I was so looking forward to this being another intense love story about the typical brooding playboy and a girl who has trust issues. Oh boy, was I wrong. VERY wrong. True, it was intense but for a whole different reasons. Just when I started to really swoon, every gushy feeling I had just spiraled.

A surprisingly good read and a real "freebie" treat! Kudos to Mila Ferrera for sharing her well-written story with readers. Didn't really know what to expect when I picked this one up but I'm certainly glad to share a positive review. The characters had depth, even while flawed so deeply they offered a whole realm of feelings and thoughts. The storyline was somewhat out of the ordinary and kept my attention throughout the entire book. Deals with some heavy subject matters and ones that traverse ...more

This was really good. It took an unexpected turn that I appreciated. I like being caught off guard with an "I did not see that coming" moment. This story turned out to be a lot more than I thought it would be. The storyline involved a heavy issue, but dealt with it in a way that didn't send me into an emotional tailspin. A lot of books have been tackling this subject lately and the way they do it frankly freaks me out. This was done in a way that made me feel more compassion than fear. Well done ...more

Oh boy. Mila has certainly grabbed my attention with this NA debut, Spiral. With writing that hooks you from the very first page, Mila tells the story of Aron and Nessa, whose worlds collide when Nessa starts her internship in a children's hospital where Aron, a devastatingly gorgeous doctor, works.

Can I just say 'TENSION' and leave it at that? No? Well, there's TENSION, and there's humour, and there's sexiness and longing and ALL THE EMOTIONS, and, well ... I'M A FAN. I laughed, and yes, I crie

Mila Ferrera's debut novel, SPIRAL, is an emotional ride that hits you in all the right places. When I say she really gets inside her character's head, I mean she really does.

I've never been a huge fan of YA because of all the angst, but this New Adult is a whole different cup of tea. And I'll drink it to the last drop! Her characters are beautifully broken and to see them be intricately stitched back together as the story goes is an amazing thing.

Read this review on my blog, Midwest Galley Girl.

I'm a little weary of hoodie-sporting, tattooed alpha males. There's a whole sub-genre of New Adult (NA) literature that has been taken over by them. I've started referring to them as, "Channing Tatum, Please F*ck Me" books. Now, I'm not about to argue with the success of REAL and BEAUTIFUL DISASTER. These men are just not my kink.

I must admit from the product description I wasn't expecting the type of book this story became..

Nessa Cavanaugh is a Psychology student in her final year as an Intern at a prestigious hospital. On her first rotation in the Oncology Department she meets handsome Dr Aron Lindstrom. They have an instant attraction and chemistry but Nessa is warned that Aron is a bit of a ladies man. Wishing to tread carefully and protect her heart they begin a slow moving relationship with Aron trying to prove tha

I decided to read this for one reason only, and that is because the heroine is an intern finishing her degree for Clinical Psychology. As a Clinical Psychology grad student, of course that's enough for me. Luckily for me, Spiral offered more.

Almost everything that I want to say will require some spoilers so I'll just be brief and vague.

I really like the characterizations of Nessa and Aron. I like that they really complement each other in so many ways. They share the same strengths and weakness

4.75 STARS!!! I am definitely BLOWN AWAY that this book doesnt have a better rating! I LOVED it! Great writing, the book just sucks you in incredibly fast and the writing flows so well to where you don't realize youve been sitting there for hours reading your book!! When I started Spiral I had no idea what it was about and I loved that, it completely stunned me! Its not the normal 'bad boy sweet girl cliche' but this book was def a bit deeper and hits real situations however, it literally has ev ...more

Nessa was in her final year of training to get her PhD in clinical psychology. On her first day, she met Dr. Aron in pediatric oncology unit. So Nessa and Aron started with an insta-lust, then their relationship got out of control in the mix of drama and twist.

I did not like Nessa from the start. I almost *DNFed* it because of her personality. She was insecure and indecisive. A drama queen.

Aron: for someone training to be a psychologist, you're a pro at self-deception

But I liked her compassion
Wowza. I was trucking along through the first half of this book, enjoying the seriously hot romance & smexy times between Aron and Nessa, when out of nowhere....WHAM! I'm hit by what feels like a semi-truck in the form of a major plot twist I didn't see coming. It totally and completely shifted the tone of the book. Not in a bad way, mind you, but damn if it didn't leave me reeling a bit. I'm glad it happened, though, because it added a lot of depth to the story. I especially loved the way autho ...more

Wow. It got so damn emotional towards the end.

Okay, I really thought, in the beginning, this was just like any other NA. The more successful hot guy, the girl who's floundering around and here he comes on his white steed. He helps her out, becomes a valuable resource for her to become successful... yadda, yadda, yadda.

But towards the end, she literally becomes the strong one - mentally - in the relationship. It was sad, the reason why, but urgh. I just can't get over the way the relationship tur

When I finnished reading this book my feeling was like "okay?thats all?"
I liked the fact that is a psychology doc student and a swedish guy (as It happens to be kind of my life! I was shocked, Im studying clinic psychology and my boyfriend is swedish aswell) so was quite funny when Aron starts talking in swedish and I could understand what he was saying.
I liked the characters, but some parts just got really boring.

is not a bad book, one of those which you read when you have free time and dont

I stopped reading this book when Nessa realized Aron had the same "condition" as her dad because I really did not like how all of a sudden Aron has this "condition". I found myself rolling my eyes when Nessa realized what was going on with him. IMO the stuff he's doing could just be his way of dealing with all the stress he's under. While this book wasn't predictable I still think it's unbelievable. Maybe I needed more of a back story of both characters to be able to connect with them and believ ...more

I'm still struggling with how I feel about this one. While I will say that I LOVED the description and read a lot of reviews that raved about how wonderful this "nice guy finishes first" story was, I went ahead and one=clicked it... The story itself was good, the characters were developed perfectly... but it was a little "too much" for me and that's really all I can come up with to describe my thoughts without any spoilers.

I think there will be a ton of readers who will absolutely LOVE this boo

I am in love! Great story about a girl Nessa who is going to be an intern at new hospital where she meets the Swedish doctor Aron.

But something happens and Nessa and Aron are on an emotional rollercoaster and it's definitely familiar to Nessa. The problem is, can she save Aron while trying to save herself?

Aron is such a sweetheart. He was amazing with his patients, especially the kids. The kids were a great part of this story.

Just read it, you'll love it! I will now read more from Mila in the f

I loved this contemporary romance so hard! It was gorgeously written, moving, REALISTIC, and steamy.

The way Mila handles the sensitive mental health topic in this book is spot-on (and I *know*, given my mental health background).

If you want a hero who is good, sensitive, vulnerable, beautiful, and sexy through and through--look no further than this book!
